@ExpectantEs sorry to hear about your pre-eclampsia, great it got picked up so quickly though!

@Cherubs4 welcome back to the thread! In relation to the piles. I’m right there with you, got my first ever one this week, it’s not bleeding but painful. Mine I think is a mixture of constipation and pressure. Got some witch hazel pads to ease pain for now, but will be going to gp if it doesn’t heal up!

ExpectantEs · 02/06/2024 18:26

@justanotherlaura @Morningcoffeeaddict @hopingfor23 @Cherubs4 @missmoosh

Thanks for the support ladies
I am so so very grateful for the care I'm having at my hospital. As they've caught it early it's not a severe case.

I've been presented with 2 options:
A) Stay in hospital for the next 2 weeks until they induce me at 37 weeks

B) Go home tomorrow evening after this 48 hour monitoring & visit MAU twice a week for checks until my induction at 37 weeks.

I'm going for option B because I have a few things I need to do before baby is born. Fingers crossed my blood pressure stays under control.

Some of the items on my to do list is I need to hand over my project(s) to a colleague and do a handover document. I know work is not as important as my baby but I would feel really guilty about leaving my team in a mess. Need to do my Hospital bag, finish washing baby clothes etc etc

Hope everyone's enjoying the sunshine, whilst I'm hospital bed bound :)

Morningcoffeeaddict · 02/06/2024 18:32

@ExpectantEs - fingers crossed it does stay under control for you now and you get to stay home! Definitely don’t worry too much about work - I know that’s easier said than done though - try to look after yourself.

wannabe123 · 02/06/2024 19:02

@ExpectantEs glad to hear it's been caught early. Hopefully you can get some rest in over the next 2 weeks too!

I had a lovely surprise this afternoon. I got home from my pregnancy yoga class to a surprise baby shower! I didn't really have one with my first because of COVID and didn't have the mental energy to organise one myself this time but some lovely friends and my husband managed to surprise me! Feeling very loved (although tired!)

Surprisedbuthappy · 02/06/2024 19:06

@ExpectantEs Ah, glad they're keeping a close eye on you and have given you the option to go home so you can get the last bits sorted. Try not to worry about anything you're not able to finish at work though! They'll figure things out. I was someone's maternity cover a couple of years ago and she left me the most detailed handover notes you could imagine and I still had loads of questions I could have asked her, but I muddled through the things that weren't totally clear and nothing broke in the year she was off! 😊

Surprisedbuthappy · 02/06/2024 19:10

@wannabe123 That was lovely of them! I had a surprise baby shower quite early on back in March because I live abroad in my husband's country and it was the last time I visited home before the baby arrives! It was very sweet of them, although it did feel a bit like tempting fate having one so early.

Oatmilktea · 02/06/2024 19:14

@ExpectantEs what a fright for you! Option B sounds ideal, at least you can get home and organised.

I totally get the feeling guilty about work, I was signed off unexpectedly at 28 weeks and felt awful but my colleagues understood. Try not feel too guilty though.

Welcome back to the thread @Cherubs4, that sounds really painful and uncomfortable.

Today should have been my baby shower. I didn’t want anything big, just a small family gathering. I cancelled it a few weeks ago as I knew I’d likely be in hospital. I had a lovely surprise when my mum, aunt and cousin turned up at the hospital with a ‘picky tea’ and a couple of gifts for me 🥰

Morningcoffeeaddict · 02/06/2024 19:24

@wannabe123 - how lovely to have a surprise shower! I had one a couple of weeks ago and the same as you felt very loved (and tired). Burst into tears when I realised what was going on!

@Oatmilktea - that’s also lovely your family came to treat you since you didn’t get to have the shower you planned! Hope you’re doing ok and not too fed up in hospital

Surprisedbuthappy · 02/06/2024 19:28

@Oatmilktea How thoughtful! Glad you've got lovely people to keep you company in hospital.

wannabe123 · 02/06/2024 19:39

@Oatmilktea that's so lovely that your family still gave you a mini shower 🥰 maybe you'll be able to have a little shower once baby is here too if you want to

Oatmilktea · 02/06/2024 19:43

@wannabe123 oh that’s lovely that you also had a surprise baby shower! It’s such a nice feeling knowing how loved we are 🥰. Hope you get a good sleep tonight after all the fun!

One of my friends suggested a ‘sip and see’ which I had never heard of before. Essentially you invite everyone over for a few glasses of Prosecco and to meet the baby. Will see if I’m feeling up to that once he’s here!

Jess725 · 02/06/2024 19:51

@ExpectantEs

oh no I’m sorry that you had to deal with that!
Option B sounds good and you can be more comfortable in your own space!
prioritise rest for sure ☺️

@wannabe123oh how lovely ! Hope you enjoyed yourself and feel super loved and can rest up now!

@Bali200 wow good work on the two year Reno, it’a not easy is it. Glad to hear you feel it’s been worthwhile, I’ll hold on to that, thank you!🥰

sending you all good vibes ☀️

acid reflux is back with a vengeance this weekend 😂

Morningcoffeeaddict · 02/06/2024 20:08

@Jess725 - oh the acid reflux! So awful the last week or so for me too. DH always recommends a glass of milk when I’m complaining about it, which does help but the last thing I usually want to do when it starts up is eat / drink anything else!

Welshgal85 · 02/06/2024 20:43

I’m having horrible acid reflux again too. I really cannot stomach Gaviscon, it tastes gross to me! Trying to manage with Rennies and lots of milk or yogurts which does help a bit.

A feeling of pressure has started this week, it’s all underneath, in my crotch area and bum. Think I may be getting piles too 🙈🫤 I’m 32 weeks so hope things aren’t going to be like this for the next 8 weeks now!

AnonymousXXIX · 02/06/2024 21:26

@Morningcoffeeaddict I have a chocolate milk / hot chocolate after dinner for my reflux! It works insanely well, bit of a miracle really.

Also struggle with piles on and off; for no good reason really, diet and everything is fine! It was the worst after giving birth last time (which is a good reason), and lingered for months. Definitely planning on taking action on it sooner if that happens again.

MixedCouple2 · 03/06/2024 06:59

@wannabe123 I had a very sleepy baby for 72 hours and he did not want to latch for long. So I was so stressed about him not getting any Colostrum and the staff at the hospital were stressing me out kept talking about Formula. I barely slept but once day 3/4 hit he was wide awake and hungry!!! Amazingly he only lost 2% of his birth weight.
But would like to have a more restful start to newborn and do want a few days stash of Colostrum of possible.....

@hopingfor23 oh no. Glad they retested. Were you anemic / border line pre pregnancy. I suffer with menhorrghia and apparently that means your more likely to have pregnancy anemia. I had no clue until recently. Had it known I would have taken supplements sooner and also focused on iron and protein sooner. I hope not too late to get my levels back up.
That's amazing you get to do it last time and it helped with nursing overall. Nursing was tricky for me even with nilk supply as DS has a 'slight' tongue tie

Morningcoffeeaddict · 03/06/2024 07:03

@AnonymousXXIX that’s a great tip, thank you I’ll give it a try. Sounds easier to stomach than just milk which I haven’t really drunk since I was a small child!

MixedCouple2 · 03/06/2024 07:08

@ExpectantEs hiya, and do sorry to hear about the PE. Hope it stays under control your so next the end. Try to take it easy with your to do list so you don't make PE worse. Can you delegate?

@wannabe123 awww your so lucky. I wish somebody would do that for me. I am very much like that with others but no one dod that with DS1 or DS 😔

Those taken rennies and gaviscon I had 0 idea about this until I found out about my iron deficiency but it can impact iron absorption. Along with caffeine, milk etc. Like what!!! So I have had to cut back a lot of dairy and time when I have Gaviscon. Although luckily heart burn has decreased. I think baby has dropped as I feel the need to pee a lot more often.

I started to notice Braxton hicks getting more intense.

@Oatmilktea how are you doing?

I am on my babymoon but wide awake and can't sleep. This has been me since 30 weeks. I remember it happened with DS1 also.

Savvy21 · 03/06/2024 07:46

@MixedCouple2 Sorry to hear you were stressed out by the thought of formula. Just wanted to say it's not that bad and was a life saver for my mental health. Breastfeeding was harder than I was led to believe and the guilt around it led to 2 weeks of misery before we switched.
@Morningcoffeeaddict also struggling with acid reflux and Google came up with oat milk. Thought I'd give it a try and seemed to work if you're not a fan of milk.
@Welshgal85 is it both flavours of gaviscon that you don't like? Also have the pressure too - this baby feels really low.
@Oatmilktea a sip and see sounds like a lovely way for everyone to meet baby.
@ExpectantEs you've got a similar due date to me I think. Sorry to hear about the PE - can't believe that it can come on so fast. Hope that you can stay at home until 37 weeks with just the monitoring.

AnonymousXXIX · 03/06/2024 08:00

@savvy21 I thought it was the ... milk aspect of milk that worked against reflux 😂(how scientific). So alternatives wouldn't do the same.

@MixedCouple2 I was in hospital 4 days last time and struggling to feed massively because of tongue tie, it was agony; they suggested formula at least twice a day! But I was able to harvest colostrum post birth, and my milk did come in at some stage (absolutely can't remember when), so I decided to refuse formula a while longer and keep trying. Then when I got home I started pumping, and baby was able to get enough milk. But omfg that was SO stressful. As a first time mum I felt like such an idiot for not listening to the nurses, and it took absolutely all the courage I had to go with my own gut. And I felt COMPLETELY unsupported in wanting to exclusively breastfeed. (If the HV had come the next week and said my baby was unhealthy I would have def switched to formula, just want to be clear on that btw.). But apparently somewhere in the first 10 days we managed to kind of get the baby enough breastmilk in the end to not drop an insane amount of birthweight. And the NHS ended up sending me a more helpful lactation consultant after about 2 weeks who got the tongue tie prioritised, and we were able to work on things from there.

In other news, a friend of mine who was due first July gave birth a month early yesterday. Eek! All fine, no issues, just baby randomly decided she did not deserve any maternity leave beforehand 😩

Jess725 · 03/06/2024 12:02

Ohhh im sorry to hear that! It's just savage isnt it! @Morningcoffeeaddict @AnonymousXXIX
Thanks for the tips! I will try it all!!!! Baby is very low down so was sure the reflux would ease but ….

@MixedCouple2 oh wow I had no idea, I’ll be mindful of this, thanks for the info! I think im getting braxton hicks too, but not sure… first baby!
I hope your friend is doing ok too!

@Savvy21 Yes! also been on the oat milk and it seems to work (thanks google! not sure the science either ….) I’ve also been adding honey to the oat milk if you can stand it, it has also helped :)

Starsnspikes · 03/06/2024 13:45

Been lurking on this thread but have to come out of hiding to say to those struggling with heartburn...get a prescription for Omeprazole! It's bloody incredible stuff. I was eating Gaviscon like sweets and it wasn't touching the sides, mentioned it to the consultant and she did me a prescription there and then. Haven't had acid reflux once since I started taking it, whereas before it was so bad it'd stop me mid-sentence and I'd nearly be in tears.

bringmearainbow · 03/06/2024 14:51

Hey ladies it's getting closer and closer now 🙈 I about to pack my hospital bag but I can't for the life of me remember how many babygrows and vests I took for DS. How many are you all taking? I was thinking 4 of each size. DS was 7lb 5so hopefully I won't have a whopper baby but you never know so was going to take newborn and 0-3

wannabe123 · 03/06/2024 16:48

@bringmearainbow I'm expecting baby to be about 9lbs so have 1 set (baby grow, vest and hat) in newborn, 2 in 0-1 months and a going home outfit in 0-1. Each in separate little bags with a nappy. I remember baby spent a lot of time naked last time as we did lots of skin to skin and also if I need more my husband can always bring some. Hoping to only stay a night really to get feeding established.

Welshgal85 · 03/06/2024 17:57

@Savvy21 I hate both flavours 😂 just takes so horrible to me. I’m drinking it as a last resort!

Pressure is feeling pretty intense today, I feel like someone has kicked me in the crotch! 😫 I’ve got a growth scan tomorrow so will get to see her positioning
