33wks on Monday. I am pleased they will monitor us regularly so if there is an issue, they will pick it up quickly.

hopingfor23 · 01/06/2024 08:34

@Sophie3003 they've told me to start collecting colostrum at 34 weeks as my c section is now booked for 36 weeks so if he doesn't make an appearance sooner bub will be born 21st June 🥰

In a bit of a conundrum with regards to delivery. Consultants keen for me to try vaginal delivery if I go naturally into labour. I'm very against induction due to previous trauma with my son so that's a definite no but I am swaying towards giving vaginal birth a try if he decided to come early before c section date and all was well....I know it's good for their lungs etc especially as early arrivals. What's everyone's thoughts? X

Sophie3003 · 01/06/2024 08:38

@hopingfor23 my midwife's advice when I was anxious and unsure (will be an attempted VBAC for me) is if you go into labour naturally you might as well give it a go which then when I thought about it was true!

Very true. Trying not to let my previous experience control things and knowing that happened it would be best for bub. Time to get the Hypno birthing book back out I think!!!!

Surprisedbuthappy · 01/06/2024 09:46

Hi all! I stopped following the thread for ages but I've found the new one! Sorry to hear about those of you who are in hospital. That sounds quite stressful, but at least you're in the best place for monitoring both you and baby. I hope the time passes quickly for you and your little ones arrive safe and well.
Sending best wishes to everyone who has a C-section upcoming.

We started having work done on our house in March that was supposed to be finished by the end of April and it's still ongoing!! It's getting harder and harder to deal with now as I've really lost my energy and patience with it all. On the other hand, no complications with the pregnancy so far so I'm feeling very lucky in that sense. I'm almost 34 weeks and wanting to start nesting but it would be like building a nest on a broken branch at the moment!

AnonymousXXIX · 01/06/2024 10:51

@Surprisedbuthappy I know what you mean, we had work done on the house in May, and it is almost done, but not quite. As in, walls still need to be painted 😲I think we will manage to sort it by July, but it is going to be a close finish!

Surprisedbuthappy · 01/06/2024 10:54

@AnonymousXXIX We're in a similar position - painting the last couple of rooms (including nursery) and laying flooring now! Good luck with the final sprint!

Morningcoffeeaddict · 01/06/2024 11:13

@hopingfor23 - I think if labour starts naturally it’s probably worth a try if it’s something you want to do and the team think it’s safe to do so? I vaguely remember my consultant saying something about if they come at around 36weeks in can be better for the lungs to come out vaginally as it squashes out a lot of the gunk (for want of a better word) while they’re on their way out? By 36weeks lungs should be pretty well developed anyway especially as I think you mentioned you’d had the steroid jabs.

Sophie3003 · 01/06/2024 12:06

@Surprisedbuthappy trying to get things straight here but now have found one (if not two) bungalows we could put an offer in on so seems like we will finally get moving so will all be happening 🤣.

Bali200 · 01/06/2024 12:14

@Surprisedbuthappy @AnonymousXXIX I hope you both get finished soon, it’s so hard when everyone says we should be resting/taking it easy when there’s so much to do! I would love to start nesting but I’m moving house next weekend at just under 36 weeks!

Surprisedbuthappy · 01/06/2024 12:18

@Sophie3003 @Bali200 Oh gosh, you're both very busy too. Good luck to you with your moves!

Oatmilktea · 01/06/2024 13:38

@Bali200 oh wow, good luck with the move!! Hope you’ve got lots of help on hand. We moved when I was 23 weeks and it was stressful enough!

@Surprisedbuthappy renovating whilst pregnant won’t be for the faint hearted! It’ll be worth it once it’s finished, but I can imagine it’s very stressful and tiring.

We moved house about 6 weeks ago now and I’ve had 3 hospital admissions in that time (and now admitted until delivery) so the house isn’t as far along with as we’d hoped. We have the essentials though (somewhere for baby to sleep, super king sized bed for us 😂 etc) but we are holding off until the end of July for the decorators to come.

Amberellaella · 01/06/2024 15:22

Got another naughty baby here - currently in the hosp being monitored for reduced movement at 34+2! They don’t seem concerned though, I’ve got a bit of a cold so is probs just that.

On the home reno front we are seriously thinking about starting work on our extension this summer! Probably absolute madness with a newborn but our contractor reckons it might bring the project in cheaper because they’ve another job in the area at the same time…

wannabe123 · 01/06/2024 16:46

So much going on for everyone! Hope the naughty babies start behaving and people's houses get sorted without any drama 🙂
Has anybody else been having Braxton Hicks? I've been having 1 or 2 a day and some of them have been quite uncomfortable. It's like I feel all the boney bits of baby sticking into me. Some of his movements have been uncomfortable too. I'll be 35 weeks tomorrow - sort of hoping I only have 2-3 weeks left!

Surprisedbuthappy · 01/06/2024 17:01

@wannabe123 I have no idea what Braxton Hicks feel like (or what contractions feel like), but I don't think I've had them yet. I have been feeling the baby's movements getting stronger and some of them sort of take my breath away for a second though! I can't really describe them, they're just uncomfortable - but thankfully brief.

wannabe123 · 01/06/2024 17:09

@Surprisedbuthappy my bump goes rock solid and I find now they make my lungs feel squashed. I had one yesterday while I was reading stories to my 3 year old and struggled to keep talking through it.

Jess725 · 02/06/2024 00:15

Ahhhh you guys, good luck with the move and the painted and all things house!

im also semi renovating, we’ve been here since last summer but honestly not made a huge amount of progress and two rooms are off limits and it’s super stressful as we have nowhere for anything. Resigned to the fact we won’t be having the spare room / nursery ready! 😂
i also interviewed for a job, I really need to begin nesting and resting. Someone tell me how that’s possible 🙏

ExpectantEs · 02/06/2024 01:13

Waking up this morning 35w0d I didn't realise I would be sleeping in the maternity unit tonight!

Around 2pm I had numbness and tingling in my left leg, called the midwives & they said I should rush to A&E as if could be Deep vein thrombosis. Upon arriving they did my blood pressure & it was 174/114!! I wasn't feeling unwell at all. I was actually having a pretty good morning.
Doctors & nurses start rushing me around and took me to the delivery suite.

Luckily my blood pressure started to come down by itself & now I'm here for 24 hour monitoring. I might not even go home tomorrow if it doesn't go down!

Didn't pack a hospital bag or babies bag because I truly believed I would make it to 40 weeks, but who knows now.

I am being monitored for pre eclampsia symptoms as there was protein in urine & my feet and ankles are swollen. I had my 34 week midwife appointment on Thursday & everything was normal.

Can't sleep so I'm on Mumsnet! Hope you're all ok xx

Bali200 · 02/06/2024 07:36

Thanks everyone! No rest for the wicked hey, looks like we’ve all got our hands full!

We had just finished our two year reno when we decided to move to be closer to family so I feel your pain for those going through the reno - you’ll soon have lovely homes to raise your babies in 💗

I’ve got troops on hand to help us with the move and I’m very much looking forward to supervising/bossing everyone around 😂

Luckily I’ve had no complications so far as I have no idea how we’d be doing this otherwise.

Sorry to hear so many of you are having problems atm, that sounds super scary @ExpectantEs how are you getting on now?

@Oatmilktea hope you’re getting more used to being in the hospital now?

I don’t think I’ve had any Braxton hicks yet, ps can’t believe our babies are arriving next month/possibly this month 🤯

Morningcoffeeaddict · 02/06/2024 07:37

@ExpectantEs - hope you’re doing ok.

It does sound like pre-eclampsia, it can come on really fast in the third trimester, when I had it last time I had absolutely no warning or symptoms either. It’s only because the midwife took my BP at a routine appointment and it was similar to yours that it was picked up.

Hopefully your partner can bring you some bits and pieces in (I’d give a pretty specific list if you can), they quite possibly will keep you in hospital until baby comes now as it’s a “balancing act” on keeping baby in and keeping you both safe if it is indeed pre-eclampsia.

Good news is at 35 weeks baby is pretty much developed and just getting chubbier so if they do need to come early it’s obviously not what you’d have planned but the outcomes are typically really good.

Lots of “if” in there but sending lots of positive vibes and hoping you’re both doing ok. Try to get some rest, as much as hospital is never the best place for that!

ExpectantEs · 02/06/2024 10:01

@Bali200 doing much better thank you. I haven't had Braxton hicks this entire pregnancy either!

@Morningcoffeeaddict This was so reassuring, thanks for sharing your experience. It was so unexpected I thought they were joking. I have been diagnosed now and it is indeed pre-eclampsia.

I'm in good spirits and still feel positive in general. The medication they have been giving me has brought my BP down to 124/80 which is in the normal range again. I could be sent home this evening. However, they suspect they might have to induce me at 37 weeks - which is in 2 weeks. I still don't feel ready (mentally), 2 weeks feels so soon. But equally excited to see my baby.

What week did you end up having your LO with your pre eclampsia diagnosis?

justanotherlaura · 02/06/2024 10:08

@ExpectantEs what a fright you must have for! My niece came at 35 weeks and she didn't even need to go to nicu, hopefully baby stays in a bit longer though!

Going to triage on Wed night scared me into packing my hospital bag this weekend! Last pregnancy we were finishing packing it when I was in labour haha

Morningcoffeeaddict · 02/06/2024 10:16

@ExpectantEs - That sounds promising your BP is responding to meds! My case was quite severe - I was sent to triage with DS1 straight from my 28week appointment and had him at 28w+6 as I was on all the nifedipine and labetalol they could give and BP still wouldn’t stay below 140/90 and then my blood tests showed my liver wasn’t happy. Obviously I had absolutely nothing ready at 28weeks but it all worked out somehow. DS1 is nearly 4 now and absolutely fine.

Even with all that I still only have my hospital bag done and nothing ready for baby this time around - planning on all the washing and packing for him in the next few weeks just in case.

hopingfor23 · 02/06/2024 12:52

@ExpectantEs hope you're ok it's so worrrying but as others have said 35 weeks is a good gestation so if they need to come sooner all will be ok 🙏 I had pre eclampsia but at 40 weeks with my son so they got him straight out. This time I won't be going beyond 36 weeks but that's because my waters have gone. We really are in very safe hands 😀🙏🙏❤️

Cherubs4 · 02/06/2024 13:37

Hi everyone, I was active on the earlier threads (first and second I think) but have found this latest thread again. It feels a great relief to read through others similar stories.
Firstly, @ExpectantEs - very lucky they picked up on the pre eclampsia, I hope it stays stable and you continue to feel well despite it. I've been very swollen and they have been checking my blood pressure often just to make sure as the swelling came on so suddenly, still very low though.
One major thing I am suffering with is carpal tunnel, is anyone else? I can barely use my hands. Sleeping is agony, no matter what position I sleep in and my hands are in constant pain/cramping. Any work I had planned to do before the birth will need to be delegated now.
Like others upthread @Surprisedbuthappy , we are reaching the end of a house renovation and the plaster still hasn't dried so we are putting all our hope into it being ready to paint and paper next weekend. The top floor is being painted by my partner and parents in law today. Yesterday family came to help empty that floor to begin the work there so hopefully the carpets can be laid next week too. I have never felt comfortable accepting so much help before but it feels like a real godsend right now. We built a guest house in the garden last year so are sleeping there while waiting for the bedrooms to be ready. I really hope the baby will stay comfortably inside until the work is finished, I'm not sure I could handle a baby in the middle of this chaos. If the paint is dry and dust has settled it will be a blessing.
On a more personal note, does anyone struggle with piles? I am getting mine surgically removed next week as they're so bad (painful and bleeding) - my stomach is enormous and heavy and I have a pretty small frame so the extra pressure is the reason.
The midwife suggested I be induced at 38 weeks because of the carpal tunnel, piles and swelling but I'm reticent to do that as a/ of course I need the house work finished first, and b/ I'd like labour to come on spontaneously. Have been induced for my previous births and pray to do it myself this time. I'm not against induction, I had the balloon at 42 weeks last time and it was a very positive experience, I would just like my body to do it itself this time, if possible. Also, as I've had a c section in the past, an induction will always be slightly more risky.
Look forward to joining back in with the group
