Hi everyone,

New thread for those of us due in November 2024. Old faces and new: welcome!

The last thread got a bit quieter as the Facebook group seems to be picking up. Link is here: fb.me/g/p_dSrSRkjpYfziyYWj/jkEMUg9j
It will expire in 48 hours so just ask if you need a new one!

Looking forward to hear how everyone is getting on as we approach/enter the second trimester ⭐️

Has everyone felt movements already? I’m only 16+4 but don’t think I’ve felt anything yet! Is that normal?🥰

mrssunshinexxx · 13/06/2024 20:25

Anyone else suffering badly with round ligament pain?

Yep 😞 I had it in my first pregnancy and couldn’t drive by the end. It’s come a lot earlier and more severe this time. I had a physio appointment for it but there isn’t a great deal that can be done. There are some exercises you can do and an exercise ball is useful. She gave me a belt for my bump but you have to take it off whenever you sit down which doesn’t really work for me as a teacher as I’m up and down all day. It might be worth asking your midwife for a referral to physio though.

Yes completely normal. I felt tiny wriggles with my first at about 18/19 weeks. This time I’ve felt some movement earlier (around 16 weeks) but it’s not every day still and I’m 17+3.

mrssunshinexxx · 14/06/2024 06:38

@waryandbored sorry you are suffering to, I think I had 3 hours sleep last night so painful even just laid flat on my back. Just don't know how I'm going to look after 2 other children for 17 weeks if this continues I feel worried. I had physio last time it was useless but I think I'll but a support band off Amazon today x

@mrssunshinexxx - thank you for the suggestion! It's wine I'm missing so might try and get some nosecco. I randomly had a hot chocolate last night that helped!

Cazzy87 · 14/06/2024 09:15

@muddlingthrou nosecco is nice! i like the aldi one!

ChocolateSaxophone · 13/06/2024 19:33

@Catopia thank you for the advice, I appreciate it. I will be mentioning it to the team, but as for moving the NHS scan, I don't think I'm at that stage yet. I'm a big fan of sticking to the process. My nervy moments are fleeting and usually quickly followed up with retching and/or really bad heartburn! Just wishing the time away as usual. But I am keeping an eye on it - I think the line between nerves and anxiety can be blurry but so far so good.

@muddlingthrou that's exactly why I'm not keen on adding more scans - I think it's a lovely short term fix but has potential to make things more difficult. At least for me. If I stick to the rule of "NHS scans only' that's a harder line than "only occasional private scans" 😁

@1yearplan do you have scans on a regular basis, or just as and when?

@Negangirlxx sounds like you're in a similar space to me. Waiting but impatient!

@waryandbored should we make a pact? 😁 We can do this. Treatment as usual, and trust the process.

I'm not necessarily suggesting moving the scan - I'm not sure they'd do that I think you still need one then, but midwife might be able to have you in and at least let you hear heartbeat which might reassure you a bit, or else may be able to advocate for you to have an additional scan.

UnravellingTheWorld · 14/06/2024 09:28

@StayingHopefulx yes, totally normal! With my first I was well into week 17 before I felt any flutters, and as I understand it even week 18 can be early for a first baby! Have you had your 16 week appointment yet? At mine the first time, they brought me in at 18 weeks again just to listen to the heartbeat for reassurance.

Fingers crossed you feel something soon, but don't be panicking if it takes a while.

lemonberry · 14/06/2024 21:16

Hi ladies, hope everyone is well!

I've really enjoyed keeping up to date with the thread so far, so thought I really should say hello.

I'm living in Yorkshire and due late November with our 🌈 baby. Currently have covid, which is unfortunate but trying to stay positive (perhaps a bad turn of phrase?.🙈) Overall it hasnt been awful and my midwife isnt too concerned. It seems to be ramping up a bit at the minute from what I hear so hope everyone stays safe.🩷

I'd would love to join the Facebook group, I have struggled with the link before even when I've caught it quickly so I wonder if someone may possibly be able to help?

Thanks and hope to catch up with you soon. X

Thank you for trying, unfortunately it hasn't worked either directly or copying into a browser. Could I perhaps message someone with my fb details? Thanks

Hi everyone! I've been quiet on here as such a lot else going on, but nice to check in! I've got my 20 week scan tomorrow and am absolutely convinced it's going to be really bad news--for no reason, everything so far has been fine and I'm fairly sure I can feel movement. I just keep having dreams about miscarriage. Anyone else similarly nervous?

taytay2020 · 17/06/2024 18:43

@greatestgatsby I totally understand the feeling! You're almost certainly absolutely fine but until you've had that scan it's so easy to leap to the worst case scenario. I'm taking comfort from the fact my bump is growing, even though I've not felt any clear movement yet (I'm 18+0 so still a couple of weeks away from my scan). I'm avoiding telling most people until after the scan because I'm also nervous about it, so I'm still trying to hide the bump but DH helpfully assured me today that I'm not fooling anyone 😄 Good luck tomorrow! Let us know how it goes!

piechipsgravy · 17/06/2024 19:00

@GreatestGatsby I was incredibly anxious before mine today and actually got a bit tearful earlier as I felt like I was just waiting for bad news. But it all went really well! It's natural to worry but statistically it is much much more likely that you have a healthy baby than any other outcome. Good luck tomorrow- let us know how you get on!

GreatestGatsby · 17/06/2024 20:33

Thanks @piechipsgravy and @taytay2020! I do know it’s statistically likely to be fine, but I’d also sort of rather be prepared for the worst.

I’ve also only just started telling people: we wanted to tell the in laws in person, but they’ve been on holiday and didn’t get a chance until Thursday. Was hoping to hold off on everyone else until after the scan, but am definitely too big all of a sudden to be able to hide!

taytay2020 · 17/06/2024 21:27

@GreatestGatsby I thought I was an absolute genius today when I came up with the good old TV trope of 'subtly hold a bag in front of you' but DH was still very sceptical about my chances of success 😀 Keeping fingers crossed for you, and everyone else with a scan this week!

Meatballsandpasta · 18/06/2024 10:36

About hiding a bump... I've been wearing baggy jumpers to hide my bump from my parents who we only told very recently, and I was sure my mum would have noticed but she had no idea! I think it's more obviously a bump to you and partner. In fact I tried to book a whooping cough vaccine today in person at my GP and the receptionist didn't twig. Even when I said I was pregnant she looked at me a bit 🧐 and said about how I probably need to be a bit further along before it could be booked. Looked visibly shocked when I said I had my 20 week scan soon! And I've had what I thought was quite a visible bump for a while now, since 6 weeks. Some clothes just hide it better. In a t-shirt there's no fooling anyone any more.

GreatestGatsby · 18/06/2024 15:46

Ha, yes, @taytay2020 and @Meatballsandpasta, I think it is way more obvious to you and your partner than to others… also most people I think (hope?!) are not really looking to see if you’ve gained weight, or if they notice at this stage are too polite to enquire if you’ve been on the pies.

My scan went well—baby is perfectly healthy and small to average sized (so am I, so not worryingly small medically or worryingly big from my point of view).

I hope everyone else’s scans go well too!

Catopia · 18/06/2024 16:32

Paperbag jeans have been the absolute best for bump hiding. I'm 18 weeks tomorrow and reckon I've still got another month in them.

Mindfullofideas · 19/06/2024 20:18

Hi everyone,

First time posting here and my first pregnancy too. I’m 17+5 and yet to feel baby move yet. But excited to feel the bubbles, flutters the midwife mentioned at my appointment on Monday.

The midwife however, didn’t check the heartbeat at this appointment. Is that normal?

Also, I’ve not told work yet but I’m starting to show but just trying to hide my bump. How long did people wait until they told their employer?

Last thing does any ever feel hungry and full at the same time after eating? It’s such a strange feeling.

Sorry for all the questions!

ChocolateSaxophone · 19/06/2024 20:37

@Mindfullofideas this is the perfect place for questions, keep them coming! My midwife didn't check heartbeat at my appointment as where I am it's just not done at these appointments (it's hit and miss depending where your placenta is so they just don't do it to save any anxiety) so no worries there.

Also, depending where your placenta is, you might feel movement super soon or it might not be for some weeks yet so don't worry if there's no signs just yet either.

"Hungry and full" very familiar to me! I get it most at dinner so I eat earlier and that seems to help me.

I told work early as I had (still have!) hyperemesis so it's very personal. I'm still holding off on telling some colleagues just because I don't feel ready yet. No reason not to, I just like keeping it to myself for as long as possible!

Thank you for your responses, this has really put my mind at ease. I started to think maybe my midwife was rushing through my appointment as she was running behind schedule so she missed this out!

I will continue to wait patiently in anticipation for movement too!!

Omg thought this was just me, I’ve been finding it really annoying as I didn’t have much of appetite before I got pregnant. I probably ate 2 meals a day now I’m eating all the time and I’m always hungry and full at the same time!

I plan to wait until after my scan in a couple of weeks then hopefully, pluck up the courage to tell my immediate team. They’re all men though so it’s quite daunting!

UnravellingTheWorld · 19/06/2024 21:14

@Mindfullofideas congratulations and welcome!!! As I understand it, it can be difficult to find a heartbeat at the 16 week appointment and some areas just don't do it in case it causes unnecessary panic.

Non-pregnant me has the smallest appetite ever, but while I'm pregnant I literally can't stop eating and feel so bloated! But baby needs calories so we've got to do it 👶👶👶

I told my work at 16 weeks this time, but there's no right answer really - it's totally up to you
