@JLT24 @SuenoNB thanks ladies. I've had rsv and flu but will look into trying to get my covid jab booked in ASAP!

Covid jab is not being offered to pregnant women anymore - something to do with funding they’ve taken us out of the eligible group!

AppleTree16 · 18/09/2024 15:58

The lady doing my RSV vaccine told me Covid jabs for pregnant women will be available from the start of October (definitely!).

Yes just seen this it’s recently been updated!! From 3rd October we should be able to get it. Feel like all I’ve done recently is get vaccines!!

RobynC28 · 18/09/2024 16:57

Yeah ill miss the covid vaccine then sadly - c section booked at the end of next week!

AppleTree16 · 18/09/2024 20:11

I’m less bothered about Covid one. I’ve had two vaccines and boosters also so feel like I have a decent natural immunity to it now.

Sara1988 · 18/09/2024 22:31

I'm secretly glad I've missed out on covid. I react so so so badly to it. I've put myself through it there times now and it's more intense than actual covid for me.

RSV and whooping cough absolute breeze though.

Is anybody else getting the countdown messages already from family members? 😅

oh yes. “Any twinges” feck off 🤣

2doggos · 19/09/2024 16:04

@AppleTree16 😂I know it's exciting but please stop telling me how many weeks I have left, I am very aware! My DH thinks I'm just being grumpy but IDC!!! Haha

CluelessInLondon · 19/09/2024 16:49

@2doggos I'm getting messages from people telling me how close my due date is getting - not sure why they think I need reminding!

rachisamumtobe · 19/09/2024 16:55

@2doggos yes I am, a girl on my NCT class has just had her baby! Making it verrrry real now

WeightoftheWorld · 19/09/2024 17:08

Hah, it's even worse if you go overdue like I did with DC2. It was relentless then! I mostly just started ignoring everyone tbh...!

Feeling a little anxious today as my DM has said her and my DF and DB are planning to go away for a few days very close to my due date. They are our most reliable childcare for our existing kids for when I'm in labour (but DM cannot do it alone due to ill health). We actually have a lot of DH's family around so this shouldn't be a problem theoretically, but in the past they've tended not to be reliable or much help at all with anything so I'm not sure we could count on them for childcare if it was say during their working hours or in the middle of the night. Feel sick at the idea of having to go alone although I know many women do have to do that of course.

LuxeBiscuit · 19/09/2024 17:11

Only a couple of people know my due date for this very reason. When family / friends asked for an exact date I said I wasnt telling anyone (with a smile of course).

2doggos · 20/09/2024 09:19

@WeightoftheWorld I'm dreading it if I go over! I'll just start to ignore people.

Sorry to hear you're feeling a little anxious, hopefully your DH's family will be able to step up if they are needed! Try not to worry about it lovely.

@LuxeBiscuit I tried to do this with most people just saying it's mid Oct but people are persistent aren't they?!

mylittleitalianhome · 20/09/2024 10:08

Has anybody else been suffering from a really blocked nose? I spent ages thinking it was allergies and have now found out there’s such a thing as pregnancy rhinitis. As if being pregnant wasn’t hard enough on everything else, it’s got to affect our noses too!!!

2doggos · 20/09/2024 10:13

@mylittleitalianhome yes, especially at night! I am driving my DH insane with my snoring 😂

CluelessInLondon · 20/09/2024 10:36

@mylittleitalianhome I had pregnancy rhinitis in the first trimester - I get hay fever in the summer anyway and I was wondering why it had started up in February when I couldn't stop sneezing! In the last few weeks I've found that I'm really congested at night when I go to bed - like @2doggos I am definitely snoring which is unusual for me. Really annoying as it means I'm waking myself up!

@rachisamumtobe Two of the couples in my Bump & Baby Club group have had their babies now - I think quite a few of us were due end of September/beginning of October so am expecting quite a few baby announcements on the group chat in the next couple of weeks!

@CluelessInLondon aw that's great news! Myself and another lady were both due nearer the end of October xx

Sara1988 · 22/09/2024 15:19

Has anyone had any luck with colostrum harvesting?

CluelessInLondon · 22/09/2024 16:49

@Sara1988 I had my first go at it this morning - nothing from one boob but I was starting to get a few beads on the second one, not enough to actually get any into a syringe but it at least made me think I was starting to get the hang of what I need to do. I'm going to try it again later, but I figure it's only a nice to have anyway and not worth getting too stressed over.

I finally managed to get my RSV vaccination on Friday! Finally got a call from the imms team at the hospital to go and get it done, so it's nice to have that ticked off before my due date. Nice easy injection too, and no side effects, not even a sore arm.

I've finally finished work so am hoping the baby is going to help me out and hang on for this week so I can have a few days relaxing. I've got my 40 week appointment on Friday morning so I'm thinking about having a sweep then if there are no signs of labour yet by then. Is anybody else thinking about a sweep when (if!) they get to 40 weeks?

OP posts:
2doggos · 22/09/2024 17:02

@Sara1988 I've been having a go this week and actually been successful! I managed half a syringe the first night and then another half on the second night and then I've done a syringe a night for the last couple of days. My colostrum is very watery though, not the thick yellow stuff I've seen but I know everyone's can be different.

@CluelessInLondon I'm still a few weeks away from 40 weeks but I'm thinking I might have a sweep at 40 if there's no signs by then.

Sara1988 · 22/09/2024 18:32

@2doggos @CluelessInLondon oh amazing! What method have you both used? How long roughly did it take?

I'm not having any sweeps. No interventions until 42 weeks for me.

CluelessInLondon · 22/09/2024 20:20

@Sara1988 I did a breastfeeding workshop run by the hospital and they showed us this video - it's about hand expressing in general but this was the technique they recommended: https://www.unicef.org.uk/babyfriendly/baby-friendly-resources/breastfeeding-resources/hand-expression-video/

I think the thing that was making a difference for me was massaging before trying to express - I think I did a better job of that on the second boob, maybe just takes a bit of practice! I started to see a little bit of colostrum on the second boob after 2 or 3 minutes, but didn't get anything on the first after the same amount of time.

Hand expression video - Baby Friendly Initiative

This video guides you through how to hand express, and talks about the times when hand expression might be useful for you.
