@LuxeBiscuit You are absolutely right - midwife or triage is the best place for any worries about baby movements. I went into triage about a week and a half ago after not feeling anything for about 36 hours, having just got used to feeling something every day - it even took the midwife a bit of time to find baby's heartbeat as they were just tucked away behind the placenta and moving around but I couldn't feel it. I was worried I was going OTT wanting to get checked out when I wasn't quite 24 weeks yet, but they were lovely and very reassuring about going back if there's ever anything I'm worried about - and I did feel loads better when I got home as I wasn't so worried about whether baby was moving, and then it shifted position later in the day and I started feeling kicks again. I think this period between about 20 and 25-26 weeks is really tricky as it's a bit of a no man's land for movements while baby is getting bigger and establishing more of a rhythm, so it's hard to know what's normal and really easy to worry even if it turns out everything is fine.

When pregnant with my 1 year old I had a couple spells of not feeling movement and feeling guilty about calling up but they always said it's better to and not be embarrassed when things are fine after checking! Don't worry about being a fuss or bother

@mrssunshinexxx I tend to be laid back with a lot of food stuff too. Is there anything you've not bothered avoiding that's on the ban list of foods?

30somethingttc · 16/06/2024 18:38

@spudnik1 @mrssunshinexxx
random one, but when away did you check with meals about cheese/milk/yoghurt being pasteurised? I’ve never been on holiday pregnant before and going to Greece. I’m thinking the main hotel will probably be but I wondered about local restaurants etc
thinking like yoghurt dips, halloumi, feta etc!

I live in Italy and all the yoghurt, milk served here is pasteurised. It’ll be the same in Greece, don’t worry!

LuxeBiscuit · 17/06/2024 11:10

@CluelessInLondon I'm glad you got checked and everything was okay.

I remember when we all thought the anxiety would ease after 12 weeks. But there's something every new week to be worried about. Next trimester it'll be braxton hicks and mucus plugs. I've just accepted that the worry will never end!

Sara1988 · 17/06/2024 11:24

@LuxeBiscuit nobody warned me about the anxiety and it's been the worse thing so far! I hope it's not so bad with the next one! I think if I were doing this younger it might have been easier but went into this thinking the worst so no wonder I'm now on edge.

mrssunshinexxx · 17/06/2024 14:24

@ToffeeEl just alcohol x

LuxeBiscuit · 17/06/2024 14:44

@Sara1988 if you find the anxiety becoming overwhelming it might be worth having a chat with your midwife. I hope it improves for you.

spudnik1 · 17/06/2024 15:26

These past two weeks haven't been pleasant. Braxton hicks on and off coupled with the most painful ribs!

Bee49 · 17/06/2024 21:54

Please always go in if you’re worried about movements. I did with my now 2 year old at 39 weeks and it’s the reason he’s here today (he was swiftly evicted by C-section!). I really don’t want to scare anyone (it was placenta abruption so very very rare!) but going in is really important.

Sara1988 · 18/06/2024 20:05

@LuxeBiscuit I will. Thank you. I have ocd, so I know what to look out for. This is just constant worry rather than anxiety I think.

2doggos · 19/06/2024 11:04

I'm feeling extra worried this week! Last week the baby was really active and then this week they have definitely been quieter. We're going away tomorrow and I can't even think about enjoying. I only had a scan last friday and the baby was really active and everything was normal.

On another note, has anyone started getting a list of names together yet?

CluelessInLondon · 19/06/2024 11:19

@2doggos How far along are you? Could you call your midwife or triage for some advice?

I'm keeping a shortlist of names (boys and girls as we don't know what we're having) and we just add to it if we think of something we like - there are about 5 of each on there at the moment. Definitely not going to be trawling through loads of lists of baby names, I haven't got the energy or enthusiasm for that!

OP posts:
2doggos · 19/06/2024 13:13

@CluelessInLondon I'm 22+3. I might call the midwife this afternoon just to get some reassurance. I have still felt the baby but just not as much so they are probably just in a different position, can't help but worry!

Same, we're just keeping a list of names that we like but our favourite keeps changing every couple weeks 😂

CluelessInLondon · 19/06/2024 13:54

@2doggos It's definitely worth touching base with your midwife, even just for some reassurance - it's almost certainly fine and baby is probably just in an awkward place. That's what happened to me a couple of weeks ago when I ended up going to triage - baby was just hiding and even the midwife took a while to find the heartbeat. It was back to wriggling around all over the place the next day! It's so hard not to worry though, especially when it's too soon to know what a clear pattern of movement looks like.

Has anyone started buy clothes yet ?
Not sure how many of what size. I know I am just going to do sleepsuits and vests for the first 4 months or so rather than outfits.
Sizewise I am just muddled . Last time we were straight into 1-3 months as he was a 10lber .
But with the notching on the doppler I am thinking this baby may come early / be smaller 🤔

spudnik1 · 19/06/2024 14:05

Also general supplies. Last time with an emcs I was caught out on how long it took to recover. My mum ended up doing an emergency shop

CluelessInLondon · 19/06/2024 15:03

@spudnik1 We went in Mamas & Papas at the weekend as we were out shopping and very quickly realised we were totally overwhelmed. 😂Ended up buying some packs of muslins and a blanket, and decided to do a bit more reading up on what we're likely to need in terms of clothes. Think we're going to mostly just buy a load of bodysuits and sleepsuits in newborn and 0-3 months size to start with. I've got one of those Next Unlimited delivery passes so I think we're going to buy a relatively small amount and then once we have a better idea of what we need, order a bunch of other stuff and get it delivered next day.

Sara1988 · 19/06/2024 15:11

@spudnik1 we've bought no clothes so far as so many people have offered up their hand-me-downs or bought clothes as gifts. I'd hold fire for clothes for now as it's the thing your most likely to be given.

I’ve bought vests and and babygrows
7 in newborn (upto 7lb)
15 in 0-1 (upto 10lb)
15 in 0-3 (up to 13lb)

I’m going off the logic they are more likely to be between 7-10lb!

LuxeBiscuit · 19/06/2024 15:48

This list might help with what to prioritise buying.

www.getgetgot.com/what-you-need-for-newborn-baby

In addition to newborn, up to 1 month and 0-3 sleepsuits and vest, I've bought the following:

2 x love to dream swaddles (up to 3 months)
2 x mamas and papas sleeping bags (3-6 months)
1 x carrier
1 x play gym
10 x burp cloths (the thick, layered muslin ones)
Various blankets in different thicknesses including a cot cellular blanket
About 5 thin, large muslins and 1 thick muslin
Hats, socks and bibs
1 x bedside crib
1 x grooming kit

It's mainly because I got great deals on Amazon or new with tags stuff on Vinted.

If you're okay with buying on Amazon I'd suggest signing up to their baby register. You get 15% off lots of baby items, which stacks with their general offers. Every time I log in one of the items in my list is 15-20% off then I get the 15% discount on top.

WhyamInotvomiting · 19/06/2024 18:19

I agree with @Sara1988 , best not to go overboard with clothes in tiny sizes because it's the most common gifts from people. Not sure we will need any really as got plenty in the loft but definitely not even going to think about sorting through things until I am well into the third trimester. DH and I have always had quite a relaxed approach to this! Plus I'm thinking my DC1 might be interested in helping me sort things in the summer hols, might be nice for her too.

Also I'd buy a small range of sizes - my first was a bit smaller than expected (less than 7lb) and I was so grateful that a friend had thought to buy a few things in 'small baby'. We hadn't, and everything else absolutely swamped them for the first couple of weeks. We got more for DC2 including smaller size nappies expecting a similar size baby and then he surprised everyone by being much bigger so didn't need any of them! Typical!

I am full of cold atm and feeling utterly rubbish. Just slept for over 3hrs!

My uterine artery doppler scan is early next week so trying not to worry about it. DH meant to be at work but he hasn't took any time off for appointments for me yet as both my previous scans were out of hours, so we are hoping he can come.

spudnik1 · 19/06/2024 19:06

Thanks, ladies.
I think I will get a couple in newborn, just in case. Then play it by ear .

Sara1988 · 19/06/2024 20:04

@WhyamInotvomiting can I ask if everyone gets the uterine dopplar test? I haven't been offered this one worried I've missed something.

LuxeBiscuit · 19/06/2024 20:26

@Sara1988 I had the Doppler at the 20 week scan. The sonographer didn't mention it but the results are in my notes.

Sara1988 · 19/06/2024 20:28

@LuxeBiscuit i haven't seen this in my notes. I'll ask midwife next week. Thanks.
