Hi everyone and welcome to thread 3.
Please ask if you’d like the link to the private Facebook group. It expires after a couple of days so I won’t add it to this post.
If you’re new to the thread, we are a friendly and supportive bunch all in it together and hoping to welcome our new additions in November 2024!

So booking appt is today at 3pm... no idea why i'm so nervous! just cant wait to get my 12 week scan appt! i'm debating on a private scan - not sure if i should or not, i know its personal preference has anyone not had one?

I told my work last week, only because I wasn't sure if it would impact something happening later on in the year and I wanted to flag potential issues while we're at the planning stage. But I don't have any actual "risks" per se. Otherwise I'd probably have waited until 12 weeks or if I had symptoms.

In your case, are you worried about safety from fumes or lifting etc? In which case that's a bit different.

I’m a little worried about the heavy lifting so gonna ask that question at my appointment. The fumes are not a problem I don’t think. We mix paint here but it’s all water based which is fine!

Sparksi · 18/04/2024 14:25

Managed to swap my scan appointment so I now get to go at 12+2 rather than nearly 14 weeks. Much better!

1yearplan · 18/04/2024 14:26

@Kinsters I'm so sorry that you had the same experience. It's just awful.

I've been reading 'pregnancy after loss' by Zoe Clark Coats which has helped a bit. There's a colouring in page, which marks each week - it's a lovely visual cue to see how far you've come.
I'm not usually an anxious person, but I just really want things to work out this time. I don't think my heart could take more heartbreak. I'm trying to focus on the little wins - like the NIPT test. I really hope you get your results quickly and that everything is okay.

Kinsters · 18/04/2024 15:30

@1yearplan thank you. Yes, every little step is another step closer. I've had earlier losses before but always felt like once you got past 12 weeks you were "safe", I don't know at what point (or ever) I'll feel like that this time round.

waryandbored · 18/04/2024 16:02

I’ve been prescribed cyclizine now so hoping that’ll be better for me than what I’ve been on. At the rate I’m going, I won’t be going back to work next week. So fed up!

@waryandbored I'm glad you have a new prescription. I hope it works well for you!

SouthwestSis · 18/04/2024 16:09

Cyclizine is so good @waryandbored !
Really hope it helps you feel better soon, I've heard a few people say they needed to wait a few days for it to build up in their system before they noticed the benefit.

My nausea has been lurking today but not too bad and managed to have pancakes with a friend this morning. Fatigue is definitely better this week thankfully.

@Cazzy87 I did have a private scan this time but only cos I had a miscarriage last year, if not for that then I wouldn't have had one and would have saved the money for a nice massage or something instead!

CurlyWurly1991 · 18/04/2024 17:37

oh a nice massage sounds lovely! I am holding myself off from booking a private scan, I just don’t know if I can face the build up and whether good news will reassure me. The only benefit of knowing if it’s a MMC before 12 weeks is time, I guess. I just feel like the last private scan I had was so traumatic I don’t know if I can do that to myself plus pay £50 for it!

I had booking in today at 8+3 (by LMP). Lovely midwife came to my house, amazingly she will be following me through the pregnancy and also on the other side with the baby. Very different to when I had my first child (different area). I have been put under a consultant due to issues with the first birth which I was expecting a bit. Midwife was encouraging that I would be able to go for a natural birth again with a skilled midwife overseeing because I risk the same complication again. So overall feeling reassured although it was a long 2 hour appointment and I am so drained after that plus a full day at work! Really don’t have the attention or energy that I usually do. Plus have felt very sick today, probably because I haven’t eaten enough. Food delivery later so that should help 🐷

Glad your appointment went well @CurlyWurly1991. I have mine on Saturday. They seem to be such long appointments. Totally with you with being drained. I'm lucky I have Friday's off, so my 3 day weekend starts now.

Anyone else scared about birth already? 😅I'm definitely the take all the painkillers I'll need type, to be honest. Women who give birth without any must be Superwoman!

Sparksi · 18/04/2024 18:44

Am I being really lazy to want to wfh until I have some more energy? I don’t have issue with the work itself, it’s just the long commute, food smells… it all feels more manageable when I’m at home! Especially if there’s no requirement to be there in person / no meetings. I have a catch up with my manager scheduled tomorrow, do you think it’s fair to ask to work remotely on days where there’s nothing scheduled to me to be in for?

Sparksi · 18/04/2024 18:44

waryandbored · 18/04/2024 18:34

@Sparksi

Omg!!! Ok, need to go to Lidl!

They look yummy!

I don't blame you at all.

CurlyWurly1991 · 18/04/2024 18:52

@Sparksi no that sounds totally reasonable and an adjustment that your work should make for you given the pregnancy. My work is a mix of wfh and meetings away from home and genuinely couldn’t manage if I was having to go to an office every day. I am finding (so far!) that I can push through a little bit when I have a meeting or a few meetings but then feel totally shattered against once I’m home. Bit nervous about work next week with two consecutive very busy full days where I need to perform fully and I’ll be 9 weeks. I think it’s just take it a day at a time situation.

mrssunshinexxx · 18/04/2024 19:18

Yes @Bratzy but I'm really trying to get in a good headspace as this is my third time want to learn from the last 2 labours x

Just have to remember that it's temporary 😬

Riverstardust · 18/04/2024 22:43

@Sparksi definitely ask. I'm lucky in that I'm permanently wfh, it makes such a difference. You could always try and put through a wfh request, it's a government process that employers have to follow.

Riverstardust · 18/04/2024 22:44

@waryandbored those look so good!!! Bit of sweet chilli sauce on them 🤤

Sparksi · 19/04/2024 06:33

Been tossing and turning since 3:30am. Only dropped off to sleep at midnight. 😴

Welshcake15 · 19/04/2024 06:41

@mrssunshinexxx Have you heard of hypnobirthing? Can be used in conjunction with painkillers (I did!), but is a way of mentally preparing yourself for the birth and using pre practised techniques to cope with labour. Honestly helped keep me calm during both my labours, which is known to help with pain as your body is less likely to tense up and release adrenaline.

I used The Positive Birth Company's Digital Pack in both my last two pregnancies and couldn't recommend it more!

LegoBear84 · 19/04/2024 07:24

@Cazzy87 I had my booking appointment yesterday too and felt super nervous beforehand, my heart rate was crazy! But once I got in it was absolutely fine despite the fact one of my veins gave up halfway through them collecting blood samples 🤦‍♀️

This happened to me, she said it’s because they take so much!

LegoBear84 · 19/04/2024 07:53

@Sparksi and I'd asked about checking for slapped cheek so she said we'll do an extra vial 🥴
It was when the student midwife dipped my wee and noticed my glucose was slightly raised, main midwife wasn't concerned and I admitted I'm probably 50% haribo at the moment!!
