Hi everyone and welcome to thread 3.
Please ask if you’d like the link to the private Facebook group. It expires after a couple of days so I won’t add it to this post.
If you’re new to the thread, we are a friendly and supportive bunch all in it together and hoping to welcome our new additions in November 2024!

@Meatballsandpasta so jealous they didn't work for me just made me dangerously tired !

muddlingthrou · 14/04/2024 18:22

@mrssunshinexxx - I also felt ridiculously tired for the first couple of days, but then the side effects subsided, so might be worth sticking it out.

It also took a couple of days for the drugs to work for me - the doctor said sometimes you need to let them build up a bit before you feel the effects. She also said that it's worth taking them religiously (so my taking them during the day but skipping the dose before bed was working against me).

Cyclizine is very safe in pregnancy - it's been prescribed for many years now and there's no evidence of harm to developing foetuses. I also took it during my pregnancy with my DD and she is perfect, so some anecdata for you too!

Bratzy · 14/04/2024 19:17

I'm going to look into that. If it makes you extra tired for a couple of days then I could start it on a weekend that I can just chill.

Meatballsandpasta · 14/04/2024 19:27

Sparksi · 14/04/2024 17:43

I might go to the GP this week. I wonder if it would help my food aversions. Is cyclizine safe to take?

It definitely has for me. Cyclizine is approved for morning sickness specifically (do not be afraid of the out of date leaflet that says consult doctor if pregnant).

Here the NHS link stating it's safe in pregnancy: www.nhs.uk/medicines/cyclizine/pregnancy-breastfeeding-and-fertility-while-taking-cyclizine/

My first ever dose of cyclizine I fell asleep immediately after (yesterday) but today I've had no drowsiness at all.

Meatballsandpasta · 14/04/2024 19:30

I should probably add I am very sensitive to antihistamines, which is what cyclizine is, so it's possible my near instant relief in very few pills is not the norm. But I will rave about this stuff from the rooftops. And if it helps even just one other person not suffer with awful nausea or vomiting I will be thrilled.

Edited to save yet another post... The cyclizine pills themselves are small, flat and round and don't need to be taken with food so are easy to swallow first thing.

CurlyWurly1991 · 14/04/2024 19:33

Interested in the cyclizine chat, I’m starting to feel really nauseous now (7w5d I think). I’ve started taking dried ginger (400mg) twice a day in the hope this will help, I’ve read a few studies supporting it.

Meatballsandpasta · 14/04/2024 19:35

@CurlyWurly1991 I found ginger sweets very helpful in the beginning of nausea, regular meals also helped keep it manageable, keeping hydrated etc. But then it all stopped working for me and the nausea got harder to bear. I will hope that yours is mild and the ginger helps, but if it stops helping do talk to your GP.

waryandbored · 14/04/2024 19:38

I’m on a different tablet. It’s called Semetil I think. I can’t remember what the ingredient is. It does help but my nausea and sickness is worse every day. I’ve been sick 3 times today, really violently and painfully every time. I am nauseous from about 12pm until I go to bed. My stomach hurts and I don’t want to eat but I am starving so eat constantly. I feel dreadful, lightheaded and weak all the time. I am now signed off work but I am wondering if I should ask about a different pill. My GP really wasn’t keen to give me any more medication at all…

@waryandbored that's prochlorperazine so a different active ingredient. Definitely worth going back and pushing for something new!

muddlingthrou · 14/04/2024 20:01

@waryandbored - I'm actually on a combination of prochloperazine and cyclizine. My gp referred me to the gynae dept of the hospital to get specialist treatment and they were so helpful, so maybe you could ask about similar?

I'm on quite a high dose of proch now (10mg 3x a day) and cyclizine 2x a day. I found the hospital doctors so much more proactive and knowledgable about dealing with the nausea, so def worth pushing for. You sound like you're really suffering xx

mrssunshinexxx · 15/04/2024 06:58

@muddlingthrou thankfully mine is easing now so don't need them I just suffered through it was too dangerous to drive my children I was literally dropping off at the wheel the first day on school run

piechipsgravy · 15/04/2024 07:47

Just when I thought I couldn't get any less dignified from pregnancy, this morning I threw up in my hands.

First day back at school today after 2 weeks off. Absolutely dreading it!

Hope you're okay @piechipsgravy 😔 sounds awful!

Mumtobeno2 · 15/04/2024 10:56

@piechipsgravy that sounds awful! I'm sorry you're suffering so badly with sickness. Hope that the return to work goes ok tomorrow x

Westy22 · 15/04/2024 11:14

Had a private scan yesterday, went in at 10+4 came out 10+6 🤣 convinced my baby is trying to be an October baby as due date is now 4th Nov (Initially started as the 8th). Baby doing really well and everything looks great 🥰 so I feel less anxious about the fact I've gone practically the whole first trimester with no sickness and miminal nausea, as you read into lack of symptoms so much especially after loss. X

Meatballsandpasta · 15/04/2024 11:26

@Westy22 maybe you'll have a Halloween baby! So glad your scan gave you some reassurance

muddlingthrou · 15/04/2024 12:06

@Westy22 - we are due date twins ☺️ I'm crossing my fingers for a Halloween baby as I absolutely love and adore Halloween, so the excuse to throw a party each year will make me sooo happy.

I'm glad you got the reassurance you needed. I am a mess through symptoms but can understand how worrying it would be to not have any too!

piechipsgravy · 15/04/2024 12:24

@strawberrycake12 @Mumtobeno2 thanks- it's not been too bad although have a child with slapped cheek so that has added a bit of extra stress!

@Westy22 so glad you had a good scan! My due date has floated between 4-8th based on my scans so may be close to you!

Mumtobeno2 · 15/04/2024 12:28

Is anyone else's main symptom emotional changes? I feel like I have had extreme pms for the last 6 weeks and genuinely feel like I'm going crazy. The nausea subsided pretty quickly this time and the only other symptom I have is fatigue which is more extreme than with my first.

Have you had slapped cheek before? Kind of worried about it as in my role we go to lots of different settings and so it would be impossible to know which child had what. I said this to the midwife at my booking appt but she seemed to shrug and just say let her know if I’m feeling unwell… which was unhelpful and not what I asked!

piechipsgravy · 15/04/2024 15:44

@Sparksi no idea! Luckily I happen to have my booking appointment tomorrow so will ask about the immunity blood test. I rang my midwife this morning for advice and it went to voicemail and I haven't heard anything back so it's a good job I'm seeing her tomorrow or I'd be much more concerned. She only works Mondays and Tuesdays and is already proving notoriously hard to get hold of!

CurlyWurly1991 · 15/04/2024 16:07

@Sparksi similar work role here… lots of exposure to large groups of children and no idea what is floating around. I visited a nursery before Easter and wore a mask… said I was immunosuppressed. Don’t know if that’s really doable day to day but the younger kids seem to be especially infectious!

would it be part of a work risk assessment? I’ll be telling my manager this week as while there aren’t overt risks in my role, exposure to lots of kids (with accompanying infection risk) is certainly one. I’m kind of glad this is a spring/summer pregnancy as hopefully on the whole there will be fewer bugs around. Although that might not apply to slapped cheek and chickenpox…

That sounds like a good thing to do, just for peace of mind. It might reassure you but I’ve just read there’s only a risk if you actually catch slapped cheek, and even then, all likelihood is it wouldn’t affect baby.
