I'm also on levothyroxine (since I was 11!) and a bit worried nobody has mentioned needing to change anything. Told the midwife on the phone the meds I was on but she didn't say any more on it. My booking appointment is next Friday so I guess I'll flag it then.

Your levels need to be kept under TSH 2 whilst in the first trimester so usually in the first 12 weeks you have to increase your dose by at least one third.

Sparksi · 04/04/2024 11:30

My scan clinic has some availability this weekend. Seriously considering booking another early scan and moving the other one to when I’m about 9-10 weeks, so they’re all spaced out.

Is there a limit to how many scans you can safely have? I’d have had 4, including the 12 week one if I do this!

taytay2020 · 04/04/2024 11:48

@Jellybelly888 @luc243 yep that's the one! I was put on a low dose of levothyroxine by my IVF clinic - wouldn't have even heard of it if I'd conceived naturally. So fortunately I remembered that they'd said ages ago that the dose would probably need to increase for pregnancy, and they also mentioned it again 2 weeks ago when I told them I was pregnant. But actually getting my GP surgery to deal with it has been a right mission! Fortunately the GP I've spoken to (twice now) in phone appointments has absolutely understood it and done everything they can, so I'm in safe hands as long as I'm pushy with the receptionist to get the appointment quickly in the first place!
I definitely recommend pestering them. My TSH was 2.3 in November but 4.2 last week!! Ask for an urgent appointment with the GP to discuss your levo dosage, emphasising that you're X weeks pregnant and might need a higher dosage immediately.

Hi all, wanted to post an update after my little A&E trip on the weekend (had had brown discharge for a week followed by brown bleeding). EPU scanned me today and it’s good news, we saw the baby really clearly and saw it’s little heart beating! Only thing is I’m measuring 6+1 (5.6mm) when I know I’m 6+5/6 but they didn’t seem bothered.

Still spotting though which is totally unaccounted for, but they seem happy.

Got a little photo to take away too!

Just wanted to post an update as I know how helpful it was when I was trawling through mumsnet threads when people had updated with their outcome 😊

@Sparksi when I booked my private one it said they would not see me if I was in a two week window of a previous scan. Prob different everywhere tho, it’s prob an individual clinic decision.

I had nhs one at 6 weeks, private booked for 8w2d - brought forward from 9w2d because I’ve had quite persistent cramping/lower back pain and a tiny incident of spotting, my sickness has also eased for around a week now.

tbh I’m really dreading the private one - I don’t know why but I’d rather be in my hospital if its bad news. When I go I’m going to ask some questions before I go in about what’s the process if it’s bad news/how experienced the sonographer are etc. the clinic was recommended to me though by a friend who went through fertility struggles..

Ah I see thank you. The EPU said to me they always leave a minimum of a week, there must be some kind of reason to it. Mine was also 6 weeks and private is supposed to be next Thurs when I’ll be 8+2. I think just over eight weeks is a good time to go, hopefully it will give you some reassurance. I know what you mean though. I think this waiting period is almost the worst, isn’t it? If the clinic comes recommended I’m sure they will be experienced and be able to reassure you either way.

I was relaxed and nowhere near as worried as I was but in the back of my mind fear going to the scan and being told it’s a MMC. I’ve no reason to think it would be one other than fluctuating symptoms.

I think we both just have to hold on to the fact we saw a heartbeat at 6 weeks. That’s a great sign. No reason for anything to go wrong. How far along are you now? I’m 7+2 today. My sickness is also not as bad as it was a few days ago so I do understand your worry - I just keep using that Datayze reassurance site x

piechipsgravy · 04/04/2024 12:27

I'm getting really fed up of feeling crampy now. I thought the whole point of being pregnant was to get a break from period pains?!

Shroedy · 04/04/2024 12:30

@Sparksi there's no limit in terms of safety but, as @H20202 says, clinics will resist lots of scans close together. Regardless, I think there's good reason not to have too many scans as it can have the opposite effect - you feel anxious simply because you haven't had a scan within the last week or two rather than the scans reassuring you that things are ok.

Just a tip for everyone: if you need to contact a GP during this time, BE PERSISTENT! And absolutely play the pregnancy card to push for an urgent appointment.

I've had a bit of a nightmare the last couple of weeks trying to find out the correct dosage of a particular medicine I'm taking, which is affected by pregnancy, and I'm at an increased risk of miscarriage if it's not correct. I've had to push multiple times to get it sorted:

  1. The blood test they booked in for me was a MONTH away (i.e. an eternity in pregnancy terms). I called back to politely demand an emergency slot and got one.

  2. The results of the blood test were marked 'satisfactory' by someone who clearly hadn't read my notes and seen that I'm pregnant - luckily I could see for myself that they weren't satisfactory at all, so I called up for an urgent appointment today and got one.

End result? I need to double my dosage and my GP is referring me to a specialist antenatal clinic. This would never have happened if I'd passively accepted the original blood test in 4 weeks time, or accepted their original assessment of the blood test result. And if I hadn't double checked the result myself on the NHS app I wouldn't even have known there was a problem - they didn't contact me so I would have just assumed it was fine.

Sorry for the long rant, but basically everyone please be pushy and advocate for yourselves!! You need to!!

That's really good advice and I completely agree. Be persistent and pushy about these things. I have done a few times with the ivf people and I'm glad I did 👍

That's great news. 🥳 I don't think a couple of days makes a big difference x

Sparksi · 04/04/2024 12:41

Possible wishful thinking but sure my belly has a bit of a shape to the bottom of it already 🤣 this was breathing in as far as was comfortable, too.

I thought the uterus was nearer the pubic bone so it always fascinates me how you get a bump much further up.

PennySong · 04/04/2024 12:46

I'm dreading going for this scan tonight. I feel sick with worrying and I just want to hide. But I've got work to go to first 😕

taytay2020 · 04/04/2024 13:09

@PennySong I totally get your worries. Just remember that the likeliest scenario is that everything is fine. And soon you'll know. xxx

Makes me glad my first scan is at 8.45am though! So at least I won't have all day to stress beforehand. Mine's at my IVF clinic next Tuesday (when I'll be 7+4).

Starrysky812 · 04/04/2024 13:17

Hi ladies
I've been having quite a few pains in my lower abdomen today. They're not like cramps; more like sharp twinges but not very severe. I'm 7+1 today. Has anyone had anything similar? Xx

Yes lovely and I think they’re like stretching pain. I remember them in my first pregnancy. Not very pleasant but harmless. Xx

Shroedy · 04/04/2024 13:19

@Starrysky812 yes, in my first pregnancy and with this one. I think it's the uterus growing and stretching - if it's the level you're describing, totally normal as far as I know!

Starrysky812 · 04/04/2024 13:21

@Shroedy @Jellybelly888 thank you ladies ❤️ this is my second pregnancy and I don't remember having them in my first. Although it's hard to remember every detail isn't it! Thank you for the reassurance xx

CurlyWurly1991 · 04/04/2024 13:44

@Starrysky812 Im getting all manner of mild cramps, stabbing pain, stretching pain etc. Get some literal pains in the bum too!
feeling very tired and nausea is getting worse here. So far I am feeling my best between about 10-12 then it’s downhill from there. Thank goodness I’m off work at the moment but need to travel and stay away for a few nights next week for work. No idea how I’m going to get through full days of training 😥

Any particular side or just generally? The EPU might be able to give you advice if they don't settle down ☺️

CadoAvo · 04/04/2024 14:01

An update from me....bleeding has now been going on for 48 hours. It's like a light period. Cramping has been pretty intense at times although has subsided for now. Although that could be the co-codamol I took this morning.
I phoned EPU to see if I could get my Monday scan moved to tomorrow, unfortunately they could not so got another few days of waiting and wondering. Honestly, I'm expecting the worst. I'm trying to be hopeful and heard many stories from people I know who've had bleeding which has not resulted in a miscarriage but right now I think it's going to go the way I don't want it go.
I took a pregnancy test last night which came up positive very quickly and very dark but I know that doesn't really mean much.
I'm still taking my pregnancy supplements but feel like there's probably no point. I think my mind is thinking negatively so that if we are told the worst I'm "prepared" for it, if that makes sense.

My emotions are all over the place and I keep randomly crying. My partner and I have spent the day lying in bed, watching Netflix and eating a Greggs we had delivered. Although I could have done without my neighbours fecking builders waking me up at 8am after I didn't get to sleep till 4am 🫠

Hoping everyone else is having a better time than I am. 💕

Kinsters · 04/04/2024 14:15

So sorry @CadoAvo it must be so worrying for you x

smilethrough · 04/04/2024 14:22

Hi everyone, made it to 7+3 today 😊 my midwife called me and said that from 12 weeks i need to start aspirin because my 3rd baby was measuring small when born, she was 7lb 13… im worried about taking aspirin i dont know why? this is obviously normal right she knows what shes talking about?

apart from that everything else is okay except for the mc anxiety. Im still so worried. Nothing has presented itself so far that i will mc again (yet) but im so worried about mmc, its awful not being able to enjoy that im actually pregnant. im going for my early scan next saturday at 8 weeks 5 days. im so hoping to see that heartbeat xxx
