Thinking of you @CharlieBalf .

@IsLarryFromSomething I think urine is only checked at routine midwife appointments (although I wouldn't know about doctor appointments as I've always been midwife-led), but not at the scans.

@SELE97 can you ask your consultant for advice re: holidaying when you see them?

I am feeling rubbish today. So, so nauseous and horrendous anxiety. The GP has signed me off til mid-May. It's good to have the breathing space on the one hand but then being stuck at home sick is already taking its toll on my mental health, and then being off work is a worry as I will be financially down too. I've self-referred to the local talking therapies service although I'm not sure they can offer me anything other than what I've had previously but we will see. Just wish I could fast-forward to my anatomy scan and around that time I have always felt better in my previous pregnancies so hoping for the same again this time (if not sooner).

JLT24 · 10/04/2024 15:10

@SELE97 thank you. I had a scan at 7 weeks for some reassurance.

I hope you get to see a specialist soon x

SELE97 · 10/04/2024 15:19

@JLT24 similar to me than, I had one at 8 weeks. Crazy to see baby go from a blob to a fully formed baby, they were even hiccuping! It was the cutest and really made me feel more relaxed so I hope you get the same x

@WeightoftheWorld my specialists are based in Newcastle and I live in south wales so I don't see them in person often but I will definitely call them to get their advice, thank you. I'm sorry you're not feeling well, I hope you feel better soon and get to speak to someone about it as it sounds very difficult and physical health can definitely take a toll on your mental health, good luck! X

Mitsky · 10/04/2024 17:31

That’s interesting, I was identified as high risk in my booking appointment and they referred me for my first consultant appointment when I was there, which is booked for 2 weeks after my 12 week scan.

I will hopefully be having two holidays but only in Europe and very relaxed!

mrssunshinexxx · 10/04/2024 19:02

@SELE97 I booked a holiday in Europe yesterday in late June I'll be about 23 weeks. I'm consultant led but no medical issues as to why I can't go abroad, just going to get good travel insurance , take my notes and research where closest hospital is incase.

Slowlyyyy starting to feel less nauseous here but definitely don't feel myself still.
Really in the prepping for labour stage and have organised a phone call with the head coordinator of labour ward from my hospital to go through my concerns and worried which will hopefully help hugely

30somethingttc · 10/04/2024 19:03

Evening!
could I ask for everyone past the first trimester/12weeks, have you stopped taking folic acid? Are you taking any vitamins still?
Thank you!

LuxeBiscuit · 10/04/2024 19:13

@SELE97 I know you say your midwife won't have knowledge of your condition but could you ask her so that she can forward it to the consultant or bring the appointment forward?

My obstetrician appointment is at 19 weeks. I could be wrong but I think they book them around that time as the focus is on potential growth issues is late second / third trimester and they also want to agree your delivery plan.

LuxeBiscuit · 10/04/2024 19:16

Has anyone felt movement?

I was sat at my desk and had this sensation of what felt like a bird wing tickling inside my abdomen. It happened a few times in the afternoon. I read about butterflies/flutters but didn't really know what that meant.

I'm only 13+2 so early. But it was the strangest sensation, faint and not something I have felt before.

SELE97 · 10/04/2024 19:22

@Mitsky to be honest I'm starting to get the feeling the midwifery care in my area is not the best. I'm used to a lot of hospital appointments and have never had any issues with the NHS, but I can't help but feel disappointed with the care I've received so far which makes me feel anxious for the months to come.

@mrssunshinexxx lovely, sounds like you're well prepared.

@LuxeBiscuit that's a good idea actually, I might try to contact my midwife to see if she'll pass the message on too.

I emailed my specialist earlier and she said I just need to make sure we have access to a hospital, we go somewhere that's not too hot, I stay hydrated, and we avoid countries where I'll need additional vaccines. Other than that she said it's fine to go, so I'm reassured now. We will only be going on a relaxing all inclusive anyway, so nothing too strenuous.

TeainanIV · 10/04/2024 19:25

Hello everyone, hope we're all well! I've got my 12 week scan tomorrow and I'm so unbelievably anxious - I've barely slept all week and just can't stop myself worrying. I don't remember being this nervous the first time round, just absolutely terrified I'm going to be told awful news tomorrow. It feels such a long time to wait, for some reason this time round feels longer than it did with my first. I wish we'd booked a private scan in between, just for some reassurance/understanding of how baby bean was doing. Sending love to everyone xx

mrssunshinexxx · 10/04/2024 19:32

@30somethingttc I'll take it all the way through like I did with other pregnancies.

@LuxeBiscuit isit your first baby? I'd be very surprised if so! Not impossible though

CluelessInLondon · 10/04/2024 19:47

@30somethingttc I'm 15+4 and I'm still taking Pregnacare - planning to take it throughout.

@TeainanIV Wishing you lots of luck for tomorrow. ❤️ Scanxiety is definitely a real thing so it's understandable that you're thinking a lot about it.

WickWood · 10/04/2024 20:00

@30somethingttc Are we supposed to stop the folic acid at the 12 week point? I've just realised I have no idea! I'm still taking it but only because I haven't been told otherwise.

@LuxeBiscuit No movements here at 15+2. How exciting if you have felt your baby!

30somethingttc · 10/04/2024 20:35

@WickWood i think it doesn’t matter either way. They say it’s needed up to 12 weeks but you can continue to take it afterwards if you wish. I just wondered what most people have done. I’m taking pregnacare max because of a silly superstition I have from a MMC but the tablets are quite big and I struggle to take it some nights (and it’s quite expensive) so was thinking about switching or stopping.

I copied the below from the Tommy’s website if helpful!

By 12 weeks the neural tube has already grown, so taking folic acid after this point will not help your baby’s development. However, some pregnancy multivitamins (including Healthy Start vitamins) include folic acid. You can continue to take this all through your pregnancy.

ButterflySkies · 10/04/2024 20:39

@30somethingttc i stopped taking supplements at 12 weeks bang on with DD as i was sure it was making me feel more sick - i couldnt handle the pregnacare. I regret it though as I ended up super low in iron and on horrid supplements - my levels were fine before - so I would recommend taking a pregnancy safe all round multivitamin if you can stomach it, it'll help post birth too. Who's to say i wouldnt have ended up deficient anyway but I possibly wouldnt have been depleted 😂 folic acid is good for rapidly dividing cells, so it wont hurt to take it longer xx

@LuxeBiscuit how exciting!!! Do you know where your placenta is? Mine was at the back last time and I had flutters early 🩷 it's forming to the front this time so think it will be a while! X

LuxeBiscuit · 10/04/2024 20:42

@30somethingttc I've been taking vitamin D for years due to lack of sunshine! So I'll continue with that. I'm also anaemic which can sometimes be a folate deficiency so I'll continue both of those. I've not been taking a pregnancy supplement.

Folic acid helps prevent spina bifida while the baby's spine is growing in the first trimester, which is why it's recommended until 12 weeks.

LuxeBiscuit · 10/04/2024 20:47

@WickWood hopefully you feel your baby moving soon!

@mrssunshinexxx yes, first. I know it's very early but I'm also very sensitive to sensations which made me wonder if it was movement. I told the sonographer that I had right ovary pain like ovulation pain before she scanned me. It turns out I had an luteum cyst. She said most women don't feel when they ovulate, which I was surprised to hear as I always know which side I ovulated from!

mrssunshinexxx · 10/04/2024 20:52

@LuxeBiscuit I also can pin point ovulation every month but strangely only after I had children, it's borderline painful which isn't fun

30somethingttc · 10/04/2024 20:53

@ButterflySkies yes that’s similar to why I want to stop taking it. I do it in the evening and feel I need to really hype myself up to take them and then feel sicky until bed. But felt it was good to carry on with them until I hit 12 weeks and then thinking of an alternative (hopefully a lot smaller) than what I’m taking now!

thanks @LuxeBiscuit xx

aussiegirl89 · 10/04/2024 21:25

CluelessInLondon · 09/04/2024 14:19

@ButterflySkies That's great news, what a relief for you! I hope the haematoma sorts itself out soon so you don't have to worry about it anymore.

Is anybody else in a similar position to me of feeling a bit 'weird' and like nothing is really happening? I'm 15+3 today so I'm a couple of weeks past my dating scan and still a way off my anomaly scan, and just finding things a bit odd as I don't feel particularly pregnant anymore (pretty much the only symptom I have now is ligament twinges if I make sudden movements or stand up quickly) and I don't look pregnant yet either. It definitely makes me anxious that maybe the baby isn't developing anymore. I then go off down a Google rabbit hole to try and work out how I "should" look or feel at this point in my pregnancy, which definitely doesn't help at all! Can anyone else relate?

This is 100% me! I was like I'm in a weird phase between not feeling sick all the time but also not having. A bump so I don't feel that pregnant anymore and is any of this really happening.

Then my body reminded me that I am indeed pregnant by bringing my nausea and vomiting back for an encore lol

Can't wait to have a little bump!

I have a tilted uterus so not expecting to have one until 20 weeks as this is also my first

WickWood · 10/04/2024 21:40

@30somethingttc That's interesting, thank you! Mines only a tiny folic acid tablet so I'll continue with them I think but won't worry if I miss one. It's hard to know what to do for the best!

Do we have bloods at the 16 week midwife appointment does anyone know?

LuxeBiscuit · 10/04/2024 22:54

@WickWood hopefully you can read the text in the image. There are no tests done at 16 weeks in my area.

OCTOBER 2024 BABIES :) THREAD 3
CluelessInLondon · 11/04/2024 07:11

@WickWood I'm also not expecting any bloods at the 16 week appointment, just a urine test. Quite looking forward to an appointment where I don't have to have any needles stuck in me!

LiviaX · 11/04/2024 08:46

I’m vegan so need to take a multivitamin anyway but aside from that, I agree with the previous poster who pointed out that an awful lot of pregnant women end up iron deficient and it is not fun so would recommend you keep on top of that. I have also been taking folic acid at the higher rate for nearly 3 years as they tell you to take it the whole time you’re TTC and there has never been any concern that I was taking the higher dose for a prolonged period.

Fullofconfusion · 11/04/2024 08:49

Scan day today for me! After measuring behind on the last scan due to the midwife going off LMP I’m nervous. I know it’s because I ovulated later but of course you cook up all sorts of things in your head for reasons why your baby isn’t growing. I’ll be happy once I’ve had this scan and it’s all ok
