Thank you! It was all really good.

Has anyone else's midwife suggested a home birth as an option?

I live a bit far from both hospitals so it is kind of appealing, I hadn't realised you could have one for your first baby but apparently you can. I haven't done any research on it yet though!

Yeah, I always like the idea of it but our childcare for our other children if it was overnight or whatever would be in our own house and personally I wouldn't want my other kids in the building with me. For my first baby I didn't go for it partly because I lived on a third floor flat with no lift and thought it would be grim if I had to be transferred. Tbh DH is very 'medical model' and would have been terrified if I ever did choose that which also puts me off.

I'm almost 11 weeks and I have just had a cup of tea! It did still taste a bit odd and metallic but not nausea-inducing. I seem to be finally turning a corner with the nausea. I was thinking about getting signed off work but I think as I'm feeling much better I will go in tomorrow and see how I get on. I can always go home if I can't manage. I will have to tell my manager tomorrow as well so my absence last week goes down as pregnancy related. Not looking forward to it as don't trust her not to tell the rest of my team. Also not looking forward to lying to colleagues that I had a sickness bug I'm a terrible liar!!

IsLarryFromSomething · 25/03/2024 17:36

This is what the midwife said, that normally the husband is less for it than the wife. I don't really know what my opinions are, part of me likes the idea of not having to go to the hospital but the other part of me is nervous. So I definitely need to find out more about it.

mrssunshinexxx · 25/03/2024 17:58

@IsLarryFromSomething considered it with my first because we were in lockdown early Covid and I wanted 2 birth partners but my mum passed away when I was 35 weeks so I went to hospital instead and not to scare you but I'm glad I did I wouldn't even consider one having now given birth. However I haven't had easy births both ending in emc some women sail through with no complications, I'd keep in mind how far you are to be transferred in as you don't have long in a real emergency x

Just a heads up for anyone in the UK on the fence/ thinking about doing NIPT.
Today I had my 12 week scan, and unfortunately from routine bloods they came back as high risk (1/80) for Trisonomy 21 from hospital lab tests (though less accurate than NIPT).
Despite paying for the NIPT test at 11 weeks, which came back as low risk(1/10000), I do not feel assured. I hadn’t quite grasped that even with a high result you can’t have an amniocentesis until 16 weeks so you can’t get a definitive answer on your pregnancy before this point to make any decision based on facts.
So now I am having the NIPT test again on the NHS (for free), to rule out a false negative on my first and because waiting for 3-4 weeks in limbo for the Amnio feels too long. Had I known this upfront, I don’t think I would have parted with my £400.

Obviously for some people a low risk on a more accurate test may provide some assurance for people, but for me I’m now just filled with thoughts of a false negative and riddled with anxiety. I just wanted to share my story, as it’s not an insignificant sum of money, and I didn’t realise the NHS would offer the harmony test after a blood work risk assessment (I had only read about SAFE) AND it was such a long wait for the amnio.

x

October73 · 25/03/2024 18:46

Hi @OneSunnyFox

Sorry to hear you’re having a stressful time. I understand your concerns. I’ve had a NIPT with ultrasound direct and I don’t know if it varies between providers but they claim if you get a negative result, it’s likely to be 99.9% accurate that it’s negative. I’ll try and attach a screen shot. The false positive rate is much more in question. I hope this can be of some reassurance, sending love xx

OneSunnyFox · 25/03/2024 18:59

Thanks @October73 it helps! Though the nagging feeling of being the 0.1% is getting to me. Hoping for the same second time around as we’d have to be really unlucky to get a false low risk twice. The staff at the hospital (I had two sonographers) were really lovely, and did say the scan looked normal and they went over all the images again after seeing my bloods. So just trying to keep positive while we wait. Baby is measuring big, and it’s put my due date when there would have been an immaculate conception - so that’s playing on my mind too.

WeightoftheWorld · 25/03/2024 19:07

@OneSunnyFox I don't know how old you are, but the combined screening test places a very high reliance on maternal age itself in giving the chance scores. I wonder if that may be a lot of what's influencing this? I hope you get some more certainty soon.

October73 · 25/03/2024 19:08

@OneSunnyFox I do understand, I’d be the same as everything’s a worry in pregnancy but sounds reassuring that they said scans look normal. It’s a 1/1000th chance of a false negative, hang on in there… the odds are greatly in your favour. Ps. My son measured a week ahead the whole time! Pps. I had a scan on Wednesday that put me at 11+2 (3 days ahead of what I should have been) and one on Saturday, 4 days later, that put me at 10+6 (2 days behind!), (I have a SCH with constant bleeding so they’re monitoring me a lot), I’m not concerned as I’ve had scans every week and they’re always wildly different but baby so far has always had a strong HB. but I do think it just shows how crazy different one sonographer can be to the next. You’ve got this xx

OneSunnyFox · 25/03/2024 19:24

Thanks @October73 I really appreciate it.

@WeightoftheWorld Im 34 but will be 35 when baby is due to be born, so I’m definitely in the higher risk category. They couldn’t clearly articulate what made it higher but my risk should have come out at about 1/288 based on my background risk factor but came out at 1/80 instead. I think they test if you are less that 1/150. By comparison for trisonomy 13/18 my background risk was 1/549 and my result was 1 in 10,976.

Nervous764367 · 25/03/2024 19:34

@IsLarryFromSomething I am booked for a homebirth. I homebirthed my last baby and it was the most amazing experience of my life.

I had two babies in hospital before that, with my second baby ending in a c-section and I whole heartedly believe they were traumatic births due to the unnecessary medical intervention that happens to many women in hospital. No freedom of movement, strapped to a monitor on the bed, multiple VEs and breaking of my waters. It makes me really sad thinking about it.

my 3rd birth was miles apart. I fell pregnant 7 months after my section and had the most beautiful undisturbed waterbirth at home with my other 2 upstairs sleeping. They woke to find their new baby in our bed in the morning. It was WOW.

Honestly, if I could go back and have my first baby at home I would. Following homebirth support group on Facebook is great first place to start investigating if you feel home birth is for you. There are thousands of birth stories (first time mums, VBAC etc) and such a supportive group of homebirthers and homebirthers to be. Definitely worth looking into it now and being informed ❤️

Sorry to go on and on. You can probably tell I’m slightly passionate about it due to my experiences 🙈😂 xx

CharlieBalf · 25/03/2024 19:46

Hi all,

@WeightoftheWorld I've only JUST been able to stomach tea too! I'm 11+4 and a big tea drinker so it's been weird gagging all the thought of it.

So in the park this morning I fell quite heavily on my side chasing my toddler 🙃
I called the EPU and they've called me in for a scan jic. She didn't sound overly concerned on the ozone and I'm hoping it's just a safety first thing but I have had some aching in my lower back.

My 12w scan isn't until the 9th April! Will be al.ost 14 wks by then. I'm very nervous.... although I have have two positive scans already I don't think it gets any easier. This is baby #3 and I'm still a ball of anxiety.

IsLarryFromSomething · 25/03/2024 19:49

@CharlieBalf I hope you're ok! When is your scan?

CharlieBalf · 25/03/2024 20:06

@IsLarryFromSomething it's at 9 10 tomorrow so at least nice and early.

Got to drop toddler off at nursery first and then baby at my mums ... and hospital parking os a class.A.nightmare 😫

IsLarryFromSomething · 25/03/2024 20:30

Fingers crossed it's all ok!!

ButterflySkies · 25/03/2024 20:46

Sorry for silence ladies! Been busy here with hubby out of action on crutches... what great timing!

Sending a virtual hug to those feeling sick and lightheaded - im right there with you! Im managing to eat a bit more now, but i cant seem to get the liquids in. Every drink tastes rank, I can just about stomach ice cold ribena and coke zero but drinking makes me feel like im on a boat. Anyone thats taking medication, do you think it's worth me getting some to help with fluids? Has it helped?

We saw baby this morning - still measuring a week behind but growing exactly as should have done since the last scan :) the hematoma is still there and also growing but they were pretty optimistic it wont impact the pregnancy.

Interestingly, my uterus tilts backwards and as it's growing they were able to see a few fibroids that werent visible before, which might explain my history and why this little pickle took so long to make!

Good luck tomorrow @CharlieBalf xx

We are very close in dates, my dating scan is the day before yours! This is also my third baby. I don't feel particularly anxious but I'm very conscious of the higher risks early on and so on so don't feel that connected or attached to it all yet if that makes sense. Hoping the scan and screening will be ok and then it will feel a bit more real then once I feel confident about it and spread the news more widely. I will try to remember your username for that week of April! Apologies I have terrible short term memory due to dyslexia and these threads are so busy it's so hard to keep track.

October73 · 25/03/2024 21:35

@ButterflySkies i have a haematoma too! Mines 6x5x4cms. Caused SO much worry but baby is still ok as of last scan on sat!! Xx

Fullofconfusion · 25/03/2024 22:55

I also have naturally low blood pressure and it’s worse now I’m pregnant. Particularly bad after a hot bath, makes me wobbly and lightheaded so I need to make sure I don’t do too much afterwards.

I’m still exhausted. I only have to go into the office once a week and work form the home the rest of the time but my office days are totally wearing me out. I’ve had a couple of days of feeling really quite nauseous again. According to my last scan I’ll be about 10 weeks now although I expect to be dated a week further on when I have my 12 week scan. It still seems so long away!

Nervous764367 · 26/03/2024 06:38

Sickness is really tough. I’m still feeling pretty rough & im 12 weeks in a couple of days. I have noticed that I have slightly more energy recently as for the last 3 months my husband has had to seriously pick up the slack (he’s been amazing). I’ve noticed now that after the kids are in bed I actually have enough energy to actually clear up downstairs, where as before I’d be laying on the sofa a nauseous mess, crying at instagram reels under a blanket.
Don’t get me wrong, still feeling pretty hungover most of the time & im still crying over instagram reels but its lifting slightly 🤞🏽

I have my 12 week scan on Thursday and I’m finding myself getting excited, which I then struggle with as I’m petrified I’ll be given bad news. Really hoping everything is fine & then we can announce & lean into the the whole thing ❤️

mrssunshinexxx · 26/03/2024 08:32

@ButterflySkies @October73 also have a haematoma ! X

I’m thinking about it. #1 came quite quickly for a first baby (9hours start to finish) and I had a waterbirth with no intervention/pain relief, so midwives suggested I’d be a good candidate. We’re about 20/25 mins from the birth centre here. I’d be happy with home or birth centre. I had a really positive experience last time.

ButterflySkies · 26/03/2024 10:18

@mrssunshinexxx @October73 it's so worrying isn't it! Are you getting much bleeding? Mine had settled but ive been really active with hubby out of action and have had quite a few times where I've had bright red blood over the last week week, which just sends you into a tail spin doesnt it! I also feel like im just living from scan to scan and not really engaging with it being a baby that's on the way at the moment... hoping at the 12 week scan things will start to click into place! X

October73 · 26/03/2024 10:44

@ButterflySkies hey! It’s horrendous! I had 2 haemorrhages with bright red 8+2 and 8+4… then been bleeding brown ever since, sometimes it’s more red, sometimes more brown. I’m 11+5 today and brown blood literally poured out of me this morning (sorry TMI). Having weekly scans atm, baby seems to have been ok so far. The said as mines pretty large it may not go for my whole pregnancy. Joy. I’m partially hoping that my next scan on Wednesday will show it’s shrink a bit as I’ve had so much blood recently, I don’t understand where it’s coming from.. but it hasn’t shrunk so far. I’m ivf, don’t know if you are? But apparently more common in ivf. Just really hoping baby clings on. I’ve been getting cramping too so just feel like I can never relax! Hope you’re doing ok with it xx

cm3212 · 26/03/2024 11:00

@October73 @ButterflySkies @mrssunshinexxx I have a haematoma too & have had bleeding (red & brown) on a few occasions which has freaked me out. I also passed a clot which they think the haematoma was coming away.

Had a scan at the weekend & all was ok @ 10 weeks. They said it looked like the haematoma had gone but still getting brown discharge/blood which they said could be lasting from it.

Been a rollercoaster with the bleeding because it's just something you don't want to see.

I've also been the same , just waiting from scan to scan. Got my 12wk in 10 days so hoping I might relax more afterwards!

But yes, know how you ladies are feeling ❤️ glad everything has been ok for yous on scans etc xx

Beck208 · 26/03/2024 11:49

Hi all, due 1st of October! Currently 13 weeks, question for all the ladies that have had 4+ pregnancy’s, when did you start to get a bump? This is my 6th pregnancy x
