Pregnancy after loss support

Hi ladies, I've recently found out I'm pregnant again after 2 losses in a row. I'm very lucky to have a DS and I had another MC before I had him. So 3 losses in total. I'm only 4+4, but got faint positive 11 days ago at 9dpo and it feels like I've been pregnant for aaaages but time is moving so slowly. We've booked an early scan when I'll be 8 weeks exactly so waiting it out until then, and hoping nothing happens in between. I wondered if anyone else is in a similar position and wanted to share this early journey with me. I've decided not to tell anyone this time round, a lot of my close friends are dealing with newborns or their own ivf journeys and I don't want to add any load to anyone. But it feels like a huge load to me so would love to share with someone!

Started spotting last night, woke up with nothing and then ive come to the loo and theres spotting again🫠
I havent had bad cramps? Just the normal like throughout the pregnancy.

Has anyone had very light spotting and gone full term?

When i say light spotting, its literally a little spot of blood in my discharge. Is this something to be worried about?🙄😪

Hopingrae · 24/03/2024 09:28

@LER2023 morning lovely, that's always a scary sight to see red. It often doesn't mean anything, but I think any of us would a bit worried by it! At my scan I was told I had a resolving subchorionic haematoma, basically a bleed that sometimes happens in the womb during pregnancy that doesn't impact the pregnancy itself but that might result in some bleeding... so that might be one reason to get spotting? Also things like exercise and sex can irritate cervix and cause spotting. I think they tend to say as long as it's not alongside cramping or with lots of fresh blood not to worry (easier said than done!). That said because of your previous loss, I think you'd definitely be justified in contacting gp/epu for advice if you're worried x

Update*

Just tried calling EPU to try and get progesterone and mainly self refer. Shes like you have to speak to your gp or midwife to get a referral you cant self refer.
Well fantastic. My gp isnt open until tomorrow and i dont have a fucking midwife. Ahhhhh im so annoyed, stressed and upset.

I told her id had 2 previous mc's and bow im spotting.. and she just kinda shrugged me off. Fantastic work from the nhs.. and thats coming from someone who works for them😡

Now i have to try and break the shitty news to my partner later when hes home from work that ive started spotting and to me its not a good sign since we're supposed to be going away on thursday, give me strength. I dont think i'll be having my rainbow baby at this rate.

LER2023 · 24/03/2024 09:34

Just to add my backs been rather sore this morning too😒
Like you said you see red and its an instant worry. I have too much going on this week to be having this kind of issue.
Its easter and work gets crazy with easter egg donations, its my OH'S birthday on tuesday, we go away on thursday for the long weekend and yet im having to call my gp tell them for the first time im actually pregnant and then try and get some advice ot progesterone pesseries. I dont want to upset my OH, but at this rate its looking like a problem and that we might be able to go away🫠

30somethingttc · 24/03/2024 09:47

@LER2023 I don’t have any children but a lot of my friends that do had spotting, some throughout their entire pregnancy and have gone on to have healthy babies.
I know it’s so scary and lonely especially when you can’t get help from EPU.
could you try and get in for a private scan today somewhere to put your mind at ease whilst you wait to get in touch with your GP?
I woke up feeling completely normal today and it’s panicked me so I’ve booked myself in for this afternoon to try and curb the anxiety.
I’ve struggled with trying to get onto progesterone myself, no one seems to want to prescribe it, they definitely should look into making the route for help easier. Especially over the weekends!!
I hope you get some help from your GP and the spotting subsides.

Hopingrae · 24/03/2024 10:01

@LER2023 that's so frustrating, my epu is the same your have to go through gp. On the weekend I think you can call 111 and they should be able to link you to the GPs on call at your surgery (that's what my gp told me ages ago about something else). You might be on hold a while to 111 but might be the best way in on a Sunday?
Try not to think too far ahead with plans if you can, a day at a time. Although not ideal, plans can be changed if they need to be. Your OH will just want to make sure you're OK. Sending hugs.

@30somethingttc sorry you're feeling anxious today, I hope your scan goes OK this afternoon and alleviates some of your worries. How far along are you? I feel like you might be same as me but I might be misremembering! I'm 8+3. It can be such a scary time this first trimester.

They need a different avenues for people who dont have a midwife, especially at the weekend! Well ive put 2 panty liners on and nothing on them at the minute. So it just seems to be coming and going. Im still congested like i have been for the past couple of weeks im guessing because of pregnancy because i dont feel poorly just snotty and my boobs are still really sore lol

Me and my OH dtd yesterday afternoon so it may be something to do with that? By 8 weeks the plug has sealed baby in and i havent had any issues previously so im just stuck right now!

Sez281 · 24/03/2024 10:10

@LER2023 I'm sorry to hear about the spotting, I totally understand you freaking out but I'll just echo what @Hopingrae and @30somethingttc have said already. It might be an irritated cervix or a subchronic haemotoma which are very common. Please try not to worry too much and don't think as far ahead as work or your next weekend plans, just get through today and hopefully your gp refers you tomorrow. I would definitely push for progesterone with them when you do get seen. I was prescribed it before I had my BFP to take as soon as I got a positive. Unfortunately I think some NHS trusts aren't as quick to give it but check out Tommys website and quote the NICE guidelines to them. I hope it eases off. Try not to worry too much today though.. I just is it's easier said than done xx

30somethingttc · 24/03/2024 10:10

@Hopingrae yes I’m 8+3 too. Meant to be a bit further along but my ovulation date must have been a bit later then expect. I know I’m extremely anxious this weekend as im getting to be the furtherest I’ve come in a pregnancy, for the second time this pregnancy as the dates got pushed back 😅😅

@LER2023 Hopingrae is right on 111 they can put you on a call back list for on duty GPs, there might be a wait but could be a route to getting referred today! Got everything crossed you get in touch with someone helpful. Maybe could even try EPU again to see if you get someone a bit more understanding!

Sez281 · 24/03/2024 10:12

@LER2023 I've just read your latest update. I'd imagine dtd yesterday has just irritated it a little. The first question they will ask is have you had sex as it's so common to irritate the cervix. So honestly I'm sure that's all it is. The fact that there's nothing on panty liner is a really good sign

@30somethingttc I completely get the anxiety if your symptoms have subsided. I'm sure everything is fine though. Good luck with the scan today

Nearly twin pregnancies!!! Im 8+1!!!
We'll probably have our babies roughly around the same time lmao!
This is the furthest ive gotten in my pregnancies, so im hoping for the best.

@Sez281 Thank you, im just on my way to my mums house so im going to check when im there, it was just strange that it happened all of a sudden.

Although thinking about it.. i know TMI.. but it felt like to me.. something was stopping him, and there was times when it like hit something and it felt a little tender but he never mentioned about hitting my cervix? Hes done that once since we found out and that was very sore and he said sorry and said he wouldnt do it again🤣 but i didnt bleed after that one

Feel like i need a glass of non alcoholic wine to make me feel better!😂
Hes drinking lagers and after the week ive had i just want to grab it out of his hands and drink half of it! But of course knowing im pregnant im not actually going to do it (as tempting as it is)

Im on the bus and someones telling me jesus loves me and i cant deal with that right now.

Holl89 · 24/03/2024 10:30

@LER2023 that’s so bad of your EPU. Mine put me on progesterone straight away just because of 2 previous miscarriages. And when I had pain 3 weeks ago they saw me the same day - I didn’t need to speak to gp or midwife first. It’s mad how different EPU’s are in different hospitals? ☹️
hopefully you will get seen tomorrow and they’ll prescribe you progesterone
do you work in the hospital your EPU is at?

I hope everything’s ok x

Thank you so much, no i literally work around the corner at a childrens hospital.
But still with the NHS.
My EPU are horrendous. I told her i had 2 previous mc's and she went i'll try snd put you through to a nurse. Then less than a minute later come back and went go to your gp or midwife you cant self refer to EPU. Sorry. Bye.

Which i thought was very rude and such a shrug off!

Just got to my mums after a bus journey and its brownish discharge mostly clear though. So im not too sure whats happening with my body🙃

Bey · 24/03/2024 17:28

Oh bless you @LER2023 that's such a worry for you. I've had spotting when I was pregnant with my toddler and had a healthy full term pregnancy. I'll keep everything crossed for you. I bet it was dtd, I've bled after that during pregnancy.

so rubbish the EPU treat you like that. I've been appalled at how the nhs treats pregnant women, I'm still traumatised from my treatment during my miscarriage they were truly awful with me.

@30somethingttc hope your scan went really well this afternoon.

30somethingttc · 24/03/2024 17:49

Bitter sweet today as we found out our twins is actually triplets but unfortunately one had stopped growing at about 6+5.
two babies with heartbeats measuring well and my clot had gone which we are thinking may have uncovered the third baby.
I am so unbelievably grateful for everything to be ok but floored knowing we lost a baby. They let me have another scan photo of the third baby to keep which I felt like I needed.
going to just get my head down now and focus on that 12 week milestone.
feeling very happy but sad at the same time.

hope everyone’s had a nice weekend x

Hopingrae · 24/03/2024 18:10

@30somethingttc I'm so sorry you found out there was a third who had stopped growing :( that must have been a big shock. I'm please for you the two remaining babes are measuring on track with good heartbeats. Good plan to focus on the 12 week milestone. That's definitely what I'm trying to do.
Feeling so awful and pretty useless with nausea, I think I'm going to have to ask to be signed off work for next couple of weeks, I'm literally bed or sofa bound and can't really talk much, DH having to do everything. I think I read 9 weeks is the peak and I'm approaching that so hopefully it means it won't get any worse. Bloody hope so!

30somethingttc · 24/03/2024 18:41

Thank you @Hopingrae

sorry to hear your feeling rubbish.
I definitely think you need to put yourself first and not worry about working if you are feeling really rubbish. I hope this is the worst of it for you and you start to feel better soon xxx

Sez281 · 24/03/2024 19:16

Awww I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of the third baby @30somethingttc I'd imagine it is so bitter sweet. It is so encouraging to hear that the other two are progressing well though. It was nice of the midwife to give you a scan of the third, you'll always have that to remind you, for now it's ok to be sad but also be hopeful going forward x

@Hopingrae I agree that you should take some time off. It feels so debilitating doesn't it! I'm only in work for 4 days this week but if my nausea doesn't ease I might have to look at doing the same the following week. I definitely hit my peak at 9 weeks as that ms when it ramped up but I'm now 11+3 and I still feel awful 😣

I have my "12 week scan" tomorrow so might ask the midwife and consultant if there's any point in starting meds at this stage

Hopingrae · 24/03/2024 19:25

@Sez281 wishing you all the very best with your scan tomorrow 🙏 That's a good idea to ask re meds. I'm on cyclizine which I think had taken the edge off, but my goodness it gives me the most foggy head. I've read this should ease off after a week or so, so I'm hoping that's going to be soon! Been taking them for 8 days now. I've got my booking appt with MW on Tues when I'll be 8+5 and will ask if she's got any ideas to help....beyond the generic "have you tried ginger?!". I know I got through it with DS, its hard to remember at times.

30somethingttc · 24/03/2024 19:26

Thank you @Sez281

good luck at your scan tomorrow! Definitely get some advice for the best thing to do re sickness! I have seen the bands work for some, not sure if you’ve tried them yet!

Sez281 · 24/03/2024 19:48

Thanks ladies! @30somethingttc I've been wearing the bands the last few days and don't seem to be making a difference (unless I'm wearing them wrong)

@Hopingrae I honestly don't know how people go through it a second or third time (especially those who get HG which thankfully this isn't). Don't get me wrong I'm so unbelievably grateful to be in this position and even if it was 10 times worse I'd just get over it. But I guess like with all things (labour etc) the endorphins take over and erase all the sickness and pain memories 🤷‍♀️ As I'm 41 I don't think we'll be in a position to try for a second so just got to keep telling myself that it will pass and I know it will all be worth it 🙏 🌈

@LER2023 Hope you're doing ok this evening and no more spotting 🤞

LER2023 · 24/03/2024 20:01

Thank you, bit more brown discharge when i got home.
I cried admittedly. Going to call the doctors tomorrow🙃
Im scared to go the loo, i dont want to go incase its worse

Figtree11 · 24/03/2024 20:28

I’m sorry @30somethingttc that you found out one of the babies has no heartbeat. But so pleased you got to see the other two developing nicely

@Hopingrae oh gosh you sound like you’re really going through it at the moment! Sorry it’s so rough. I’ve had more nausea these past couple of days but nothing too bad.

@LER2023 I’m sorry you’ve got the worry about spotting. Hopefully it’s nothing to worry about, but I know how you feel and it’s a horrible place to be in worrying until you can get an appointment

Figtree11 · 24/03/2024 20:34

I am really struggling with insomnia at the minute. It’s taking me ages to get to sleep, and I wake up so many times in the night.
And as I am awake, I then need the loo. And now I’m in a viscous cycle of being anxious when I go to the loo & checking for any bleeding.

I’ve felt like you do after a hangover today, but just because of lack of sleep!
