Pregnancy after loss support

Hi ladies, I've recently found out I'm pregnant again after 2 losses in a row. I'm very lucky to have a DS and I had another MC before I had him. So 3 losses in total. I'm only 4+4, but got faint positive 11 days ago at 9dpo and it feels like I've been pregnant for aaaages but time is moving so slowly. We've booked an early scan when I'll be 8 weeks exactly so waiting it out until then, and hoping nothing happens in between. I wondered if anyone else is in a similar position and wanted to share this early journey with me. I've decided not to tell anyone this time round, a lot of my close friends are dealing with newborns or their own ivf journeys and I don't want to add any load to anyone. But it feels like a huge load to me so would love to share with someone!

I am 7w6d. In my last pregnancy, the baby stopped growing at 7w4d, and I had a miscarriage a few days later. Spent this morning having period like pains, then bout of really watery pop (sorry!) then no pain. Quite worried now. Anyone had similar?

Figtree11 · 23/04/2024 15:23

Thanks @Hopingrae

@TamsynR I’ve had lots of period pains throughout the earlier weeks of pregnancy. It does seem to be a common symptom with everything moving about. Hopefully things are just stretching

TamsynR · 23/04/2024 16:46

Thanks @Figtree11 for your speedy response! I seem to spend all my time worrying that every ache or symptom, or lack of, is a bad sign. Fingers crossed. I’ve got an early scan next week, so will be counting down the days til that.

MOGMOGMOG85 · 23/04/2024 18:42

@TamsynR I had the watery poo on and off the last week, including just before my 7 week reassurance scan which showed I was OK. I'd booked that because of loss of symptoms too so I was really freaked out. Hope that helps. How long til your scan? I'm 7+3 and have 11 days to wait til my next scan now- it's too much:(

Just contacted the midwives and my booking appointments not til almost 10 weeks and scan not tul 14. Guess that's what I get for leaving it late... how am I gonna last that long??

I feel awful today - nauseous, exhausted, and have come down with an awful cold. It literally started this morning and already I'm streaming and my sinuses are so painful. I can't remember what painkillers I'm allowed to take... I'm aching all over - freaked out its come on so suddenly to be honest. I have a physical job which involves bending over all day and I'm dreading so many hours of physical work each day...

Anyway - I never got ill with my son as it was covid, maybe normal colds and coughs hit harder when you're pregnant.

MOGMOGMOG85 · 23/04/2024 20:17

Ugh so I've developed a fever. I think it's flu, even though I had the jab. Now my drs have closed so I have to wait til morning. My temp going between 37.5 and 38. I took one paracetamol. Feel worried now :(

H20202 · 23/04/2024 20:38

@MOGMOGMOG85 could you go the walk in if you’re too worried to wait until tomorrow? Or does your hospital have a gyne a&e you can ring for advice?
im sure you’ll be fine I think the main thing is to keep as hydrated as possible!
i believe paracetamol is completely fine xxx

CurlyWurly1991 · 23/04/2024 21:18

@MOGMOGMOG85 very sorry to hear this. Yes, I think colds and flu do hit you harder in pregnancy. Have you done a covid test as well? Flu often comes on suddenly. Rest, hydration, paracetamol to bring the temp down. Maybe you can get some more medical advice tomorrow even if just 111 for reassurance xx

MOGMOGMOG85 · 24/04/2024 09:03

Thanks everyone. I took one paracetamol at 8pm and it brought my temp down. One at 5.30am to bring it down again. I'm resting and drinking plenty of fluid. Called the Dr so awaiting them to call back. I actually feel OK so fingers crossed my temp/illness isn't severe enough to harm baby. I'm also home from work - my boss totally understands that baby comes first, he knows some of what I went through to get here, and I've never called in sick before until this last week! Resting has def helped- doing a physical job whilst ill AND pregnant is too much

SnookyPook · 24/04/2024 09:09

@MOGMOGMOG85 so glad your boss is understanding and that you've allowed yourself a rest day! Also glad to hear that paracetamol is helping and you're not feeling too rough. I've heard of people having full blown COVID/Flu and D&V bugs and little one being absolutely fine so I'm sure all is good 💗

MOGMOGMOG85 · 24/04/2024 16:14

Oh God no sickness today. So my reassurance from Fridays scan has officially worn off. Gotta wait 10 days til next scan now :(

How is everyone else doing today? Has anyone got any important dates coming up this week?

SnookyPook · 24/04/2024 16:38

Aw @MOGMOGMOG85 just remember the reason you freaked out last time was a drop in symptoms and everything was fine! Hopefully this little one is just a cheeky monster and making you worry for no reason. 💗

30somethingttc · 24/04/2024 17:15

I feel you @MOGMOGMOG85

I’ve got such bad stomach cramps today.
im worried and it’s really making me want to get a private scan this weekend even though it’s only been a week since my NHS one.
god I’m so nervous. I think I’ll end up getting like 20 scans between now and my next NHS one.

Wise0wl · 24/04/2024 17:38

Ah @MOGMOGMOG85 scans are such temporary relief aren’t they! Sorry to hear you’ve got cramps @30somethingttc, how far along are you? (Sorry I find it so hard to keep track!)

I had one today and cautiously everything looks ok. Back in a few weeks unless I have more bleeding (no cause for that found)

30somethingttc · 24/04/2024 17:48

im 13 weeks! @Wise0wl
im sure it’s just everything growing but finding since the MMC every twinge I’m completely overthinking. And it’s been most of today and I haven’t had cramps for weeks now.

that's great your scan went well.
sorry to hear they didn’t find a cause of the bleeding but hope you don’t have any more!! 🤞🤞🤞

Wise0wl · 24/04/2024 18:44

@30somethingttc it’s great you’ve got to 13 weeks! The nurse today was positive (8 weeks) but I did say we got to 8 weeks with my last MMC and not to 10, so the stakes still feel high. It’s hard with symptoms as well isn’t it? I keep overanalysing everything.

when is your next scan planned for?

30somethingttc · 24/04/2024 20:21

@Wise0wl I know exactly how you feel.
I am trying every positive trick in my book to not over think things but it’s so difficult.

my next nhs scan isn’t until mid June. I’m struggling after being in the hospital every week almost to now nothing for 8 weeks. I’ve paid a deposit for one mid May but don’t know if we will go, our doctor had a bit of a go about private scans but easier said than done when you really feel like you need the reassurance.

I’ve got everything crossed for you your next scan. Praying the next two weeks fly by for you!!! Xxx

Figtree11 · 24/04/2024 20:29

I’m so glad everything is ok @Wise0wl & no reason for the spotting could be found.

I have my 12wk scan on Tuesday. Weirdly I’ve been feeling positive this past week. But the worry is creeping in, and I’m even more worried about how I’ll react to bad news as I’ve got my hopes up that it will be ok

30somethingttc · 24/04/2024 20:34

@Figtree11 ahh good luck for Tuesday!
got everything crossed that you’ll come back on here telling us everything went well ❤️❤️

Figtree11 · 24/04/2024 21:04

Thank you @30somethingttc
Sorry that you are feeling anxious too. If my scan is positive I was thinking of having a private one at 16wks, as it does feel a long wait until 20wks

Wise0wl · 24/04/2024 21:59

@30somethingttc I think it’s very easy for doctors to make sweeping statements without thinking about what it’s like to go from weekly or fortnightly scans to waiting 8 weeks, all of a sudden. I know that in the event this pregnancy progresses that far, I’ll have one at 16 weeks or so to break up the gap. You do what’s right for you 💕

@Figtree11 huge luck for Tuesday, I have everything crossed for you 🤞

Has anyone here had/is anyone planning on private NIPT and if so, when did you/are you having it done?

CurlyWurly1991 · 25/04/2024 08:17

@Wise0wl I was thinking about waiting until after the 12 week combined screening results and whether I would get an nhs NIPT anyway before deciding whether to fork out for it privately. I’m 37 so may well come back high risk anyway on NHS combined test.

SnookyPook · 25/04/2024 08:44

@CurlyWurly1991 I'm 38 and still came back low risk, although the one for Downs was far higher than my previous pregnancy (can't remember off top of my head but think it was something like 1 in 540 versus 1 in 10000 last time!). For me just being told low risk was enough although I see some threads on here with people still freaking out about results if they aren't in the thousands. It's personal choice isn't it. One of the ladies in my due date group is actually expecting a little DS baby and is super positive about it! She and her husband sound really on board with it all and are amazing. Apart from a small hole in the heart the baby is looking super healthy so far too. But it is such a personal thing isn't it.

Hopingrae · 25/04/2024 11:39

Morning ladies. I had a call from the screening midwife this morning and they said my bloods show baby's risk of down syndrome is 1 in 28. She said hormones and nuchal fold measurement were "fine" (although didn't give me numbers, I saw on screen nuchal fold was 2.6ish so under the "concerning" size). She said she thinks my age might be skewing it...I'm 39, so not ancient, 40 in a couple of months. Or maybe it's not my age, maybe baby does have down syndrome. Edwards and Pataus both very low risk. I've been booked in for NIPT this PM. I've declined invasive screening. My instinct is I don't think I would terminate my pregnancy, so I'm not risking miscarriage even if it is only 1 in 200 chance. It's been a very emotional morning, DH is out at work but managed to get hold of him and he'll come back for blood test. Jeez, what a bloody roller coaster.

@SnookyPook lovely to hear of a mumma in your due date group feeling positive about her little bubs with DS. That baby will be very precious and loved.

@Hopingrae thinking of you for your NIPT this afternoon, have they said how long results will take? I’m glad your DH can be with you this afternoon. If your baby does have DS I’ve read posts before on here, and follows some influencers on Instagram, who have really shone a light on misconceptions held about having a DS child. You’re right - what a rollercoaster x
