We have a private gender scan booked for the 23rd of this month & I’m literally counting down the sleeps! 😅 we will be 16+4. I can’t wait to see little bean again, the thought of waiting until our NHS 20 week scan just felt too long for me. My OH and I will ask to be told the gender verbally at the actual scan itself, and we are then going straight on to meet our two best friends in Next. We’ve asked them to pick out two outfits for us, one for each gender, and then we will take both outfits to the checkout, purchase one, and then take it back to them to take out of the bag ☺️

We know it sounds a bit silly but we thought it was a sweet, subtle way of telling two of our closest friends & a nice way to involve them in something physically. I’m so excited ❤️ My money is on boy, my OH is convinced it’s a girl. We shall see!

In the last few days the over-emotional hormones have kicked in!

Here’s a list of completely ridiculous things that have made me cry recently (in no particular order):

  • My cat sat on my lap as a big purry ball of love when I was feeling unwell
  • The podcast episode I was listening to finished when I still had 10 minutes left of walking home
  • I couldn’t decide which flavour yoghurt I wanted
  • I ate a strawberry, then read that my baby is the size of a strawberry
  • A friend from work texted me to say she’d just seen my husband in Tesco and she wasn’t sure if he recognised her

Anybody else been set off by completely trivial things? 😂

HolyMoly24 · 11/03/2024 15:12

@MudandMoet we used a purflo and loved it last time around. My DD slept so well and seemed so comfortable in it.

Health visitor will definitely tell you they are not recommended though, but I felt very comfortable about her sleeping in it ( and I'm not a reckless kind of person!)

HRP1990 · 11/03/2024 15:18

That’s lovely @Bakerbean! It my daughters birthday that day on 23rd, so for this reason I’m saying girl 💕 lol

Bakerbean · 11/03/2024 16:06

Aww @HRP1990 happy birthday to your daughter for the 23rd! How old will she be? 😊. I will be unbelievably shocked if it’s a girl as I am convinced my symptoms and cravings would have been different if so, but who knows! I will be absolutely delighted either way, as long as they’re growing well and are healthy, I really don’t mind what gender ❤️

Do you know what you’re having this time round?

SC126 · 11/03/2024 17:53

@Bakerbean ive booked our gender scan for the 24th when I'll be 15+6! I literally can't wait. We will be finding out verbally too as I'm not bothered about these fancy gender reveals that other people do. I'll be taking my son along to make it special for him as he's so excited to be a big brother.

MudandMoet · 11/03/2024 18:59

Thanks all - I've got a Purflo on its way now. I'll hide it when the HV comes 😂

@SC126 just read your post and realised its never crossed my mind about the gender reveal thing. I got told on the phone with my NIPT results and I've just been telling family it's a girl just as we've told them we're expecting! Now you've made me think... I don't do fuss at all (even though I'm the fussiest ever with everyone else) I am not having a baby shower no way, I'm telling my bestie on Thursday over lunch so will be laying it down she's not to organise one but she seldom listens, oh crap 🤦🏼‍♀️

HRP1990 · 11/03/2024 19:11

Yes of course, that’s the main thing! @Bakerbean. She’ll be 2, 2 and a half when baby comes which I think is a good age gap.

We haven’t found out the gender yet.. I’m pretty we’ll stop at 2 children so what I’m deciding between is.. this is the last time we’ll get to find out/have the opportunity to keep it a surprise, so just deciding what we want to do this time around!

SC126 · 11/03/2024 19:16

@MudandMoet im the same. Rather not the fuss. I ended up with a surprise shower for my son and it was lovely but I'd have been just as happy without one 🤣

longingtobe23 · 11/03/2024 19:57

@HRP1990 hoping you get a lovely sonographer again! Sounds perfect to me to go to a memorable place rather than hospital bed I agree xx

3 weeks tomorrow I find out and we’ve a holiday in between so I need to calm down 🫣

I totally feel you on this! Everything turns me either into a raging storm or a crying mess 🤣.

i asked DP if he was okay when he got in from work as he looked a bit tired and grumpy ans he said yeah babe why wouldn’t I be.. I cried for an hour because I thought he was annoyed at me for asking when he was doing nothing wrong 🤣
Felt a spot on my back and I never ever get spots there just while being pregnant and I asked him to take a picture and show me and he said no you’ll just get upset said don’t care show me anyway.. proceed to burst into tears inconsolable thinking I’m the ugliest personal in the world now 🤣

I have two funerals to attend this week so god help me honestly!

RachSmile · 11/03/2024 20:11

@Bakerbean also have our gender scan on the 23rd! 💕 will be just over 16 weeks, but even if the baby makes it difficult to find out the gender I don’t mind, I’m using it more as another reassurance scan as it feels like such a long wait till the 20week one!

Everyone that knows about the pregnancy in our family is convinced it’s going to be a girl, I’m trying not to let myself even guess about it as I want to be totally open-minded and happy whatever the scan reveals!

Lillers · 11/03/2024 20:28

@Ptfcangel The emotions feel so real! But yep, mostly completely irrational. I’m sorry you have funerals to go to - I hope they go as well as they can ❤️

irrational is our go to word in the house rn! Im totally switching between hating his guts and needing him to be around 24/7 he must be exhausted 🤣

awk it’s alright both quite distant family I’ve only met a few times, but annoying as I will likely be bawling my eyes out anyway 🤣🤦🏽‍♀️
funeral Wednesday scan Thursday funeral Friday so busy week!!

DP and I have been sure since finding out that it’s a girl, telling everyone in the family everyone without fail guessed boy for some reason!
i will be so happy either way but will be annoyed if it’s a boy and everyone’s right and not us 🤣

RachSmile · 11/03/2024 21:06

@Ptfcangel haha that’s so frustrating! I’ll be happy either way but will feel so annoyed if everyone gets in my head and I’m then expecting it to be a girl only to be told it’s a boy!

Decaffe · 12/03/2024 07:10

I’ve just seen another thread that got me thinking - do you tell them at your 12 week scan that you have already done an NIPT? I am curious as to what my screening results would be, and I’d be a bit worried that if I said I had a scan nine days ago that they’d say I couldn’t have the NHS one today. Do I not say anything at this point? 🤔

Starlight11111 · 12/03/2024 07:16

@Decaffe I didn't tell the NHS I'd had NIPT, didn't feel the need. Also had the NHS screening as was curious about the results xx

It’s tricky isn’t it? Not exactly the same but I’ve got a private scan booked tomorrow because the NHS still hasn’t told me when my dating scan is, despite me being 12 weeks on Thursday and me chasing them incessantly.

I think I’ll only tell the NHS about the private scan if the dates suggest I’m a few days further along than I think, meaning I’d need the screening sooner than they’ve currently got me down as.

Has the NIPT shown anything of concern? That might be a factor in deciding whether to mention it. Or maybe if anything showed up on the screening and they suggested NIPT as a next step, maybe then say you’ve actually had it already?

Decaffe · 12/03/2024 07:20

I can’t believe you’re still being left waiting @Lillers, that’s awful. So pleased you have managed to get a private scan booked in.

Thankfully the NIPT came back low risk for all three trisomies so yes that’s a good plan, I won’t say anything unless/until they have any concerns and then will take it from there!

I saw on the FB page that someone is awaiting NIPT results following a high risk screen, just to say you are in my thoughts as the wait last week was awful for my mental health. I hope the results come back quickly for you.

VT6 · 12/03/2024 07:22

Oh ladies the emotions are high today, just watched a video of a police dog getting his last shoutout on the radio to thank him for his service on the day of his retirement and bawled my eyes out 😂

Xur · 12/03/2024 07:24

@VT6 I nearly cried at Emma Stone’s Oscar acceptance speech.
I know… I don’t believe myself either.
