After all this name talk I raised the conversation with my partner and we have two strong contenders. Bruno for a boy and Betsi for a girl (we are Welsh)

We have a DD called Norah,so I think Norah and Betsi sounds adorable like two little old ladies!

rupertbear91 · 10/03/2024 22:13

@MudandMoet I have had a ewan the sheep in my Amazon basket since the day we found out it's my first thing I want to buy because my youngest dog has had the puppy version of it since he was 8 weeks old. He's nearly 3 and still won't go to sleep without it so I want them to be matching dog and baby 😂😂

Honeyandsunshine1 · 10/03/2024 22:25

@MudandMoet We had Ewan in 2020 for our first and tbh, I agree with the other poster (forgotten your username, I’m so sorry!) who didn’t rate it. I was so excited as I’d heard good things but didn’t really save the day like I thought it would. The only thing that worked was pink/white/brown noise on Spotify lol. But, different strokes for different folks as they say! A lot of people on here seemed to love it so could well work well for you guys, too 😄

HolyMoly24 · 10/03/2024 22:32

Ewan the sheep was never loud enough to be effective for our DD. We ended up using a white noise app on our phone.

They may have improved now though as this was 5 years ago

longingtobe23 · 10/03/2024 22:52

@HolyMoly24 love the names are you finding out? I am still torn even though scan booked already haha! As it might possibly be our last pregnancy I've always loved the idea of surprise x

HolyMoly24 · 10/03/2024 22:56

@longingtobe23 yes 100% finding out, probably at an early gender scan at 17 weeks. How many weeks will you be when you have yours?? How exciting.

I love the idea of a surprise but I just know I couldn't do it. I also find it helps my partner with bonding when he can imagine the little baby son/daughter. It's all a bit too abstract for him before that point!

longingtobe23 · 10/03/2024 23:02

@HolyMoly24 ekkk yes it's booked private already the clinic I've used twice before now do them from 15! However that falls over Easter weekend for me so I'll be 15+4!
They say they scan again free if no luck. Seems so early but I found out with my son a similar time ... I just have a gut instinct it's a boy again which I don't mind either way but I'll be shocked if it's a girl 😂

And yes I agree My husband and son are the ones who want to know so I guess I'm outnumbered they also like to be prepared. We will take him with us so I guess I am looking forward to it!

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 11/03/2024 06:55

Hey everyone, please may I join this thread 🥰

I am approx 12 weeks today - dating scan on Friday! I've been dying in the depths of HG and been in hospital every week since 7 weeks - but fingers crossed they've put me on ondansetron and it has reduced the sickness to around 6 times a day which I can cope with compared to the 20+ 🙈 the nausea hasn't decreased unfortunately. This is my 2nd pregnancy and I had it the entire way through with my 1st.

Anyway onto some more positivity - I've been active on the HG threads but want to try avoid sitting talking about how shit I feel every day and have normal conversations with people on here to take my mind off it lol!

I saw the mention of Ewan the sheep - we got Ollie the Owl for my first born - he is 4 in June and he still has it to go to sleep 😂 I'm sure I could've paid for an all inclusive 2 week holiday with the amount I've spent on batteries the last 4 years - we keep joking now saying his future wife is going to hate us when he's 30 and still needs his Ollie Owl in bed beside their head 😂

Bakerbean · 11/03/2024 07:58

Has anyone else had issues trying to order from the Seraphine website? I’ve tried to order twice now and both times the transactions have ultimately been refunded back into my account. So frustrating as I’m getting desperate for some more comfortable clothes now & I was expecting them to arrive at the end of last week.

I think I’m going to give up and try elsewhere?!

MudandMoet · 11/03/2024 08:49

@SC126 @Honeyandsunshine1 how strange though that one baby it soothes instantly and yet another, no chance. He did mention the batteries tbf, wouldn't you think they'd make it rechargeable like most things these days! I figure it's worth a shot just in case for the sake of £40. I've read they're much more likely to work well if used from day one and not much after but I guess we'll see.

@ForeverHopeful67 that's good to know. I can't sleep without the tv on in the background (it's on auto timer to go off at 1am) so I kind of get it.
@BeautyAndTheBump1 Best start stocking up on batteries now! Christ it sounds like you been through it. Hopefully it won't be all the way through like last time 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

@rupertbear91 😂😂 brilliant! Love that they'll be matching with their little sleep aids 🫶🏻

tryingfortwo2 · 11/03/2024 09:26

We hated the sheep too, ended up buying a DreamEgg and that’s been amazing, DD still uses it. Ours is the bigger one, but can get a travel one too.

Loving all the name chat! @Babyplease23 my DH wasn’t 100% on DD’s name when she was born, so we held off deciding but then by day 2 he couldn’t imagine her with any other name. Just took him a little longer 😉

Now we know we’re having a girl, I’ve been looking at names and all the ones I like we already have in the family/friend group, like Alice and Clara.. I like a traditional name but not too overused. Our DD is Lucy🥰 so if anyone has any amazing complimentary names to Lucy, please let me know!! (Middle name likely to be Elizabeth).

VT6 · 11/03/2024 10:11

We’ve got my girls name and have done for years but boys names are such a struggle!

I love traditional names but me and my OH can’t seem to agree on many 😂

Emmaev · 11/03/2024 10:17

Hope everyone had a lovely Mother’s Day, we went for breakfast which was lovely and my daughter came in carrying chocolates and cakes which she swiftly starting eating.

We’ve had a brief talk on names, but will get serious when we know what we’re having although thinking about waiting another 5 weeks for the nhs scan feels like so long.

My daughter only ever fell to sleep to blaring white noise or the hoover on. So I think I’ll just be doing that again. Anything we bought for DD just never worked.

Ive been getting some major cramps the last few days, I’m guessing it’s just stretching? But doesn’t half make you panic, feels like such a huge gap between the 12 week scan and 20 week, when you can’t feel them. But 15 weeks today so hopefully I’ll feel babe soon.

Xur · 11/03/2024 10:50

@Bakerbean me! I never managed to order, tried twice! The order was placed and then cancelled and money was never taken. I gave up and ordered from H&M instead.

longingtobe23 · 11/03/2024 11:06

@Bakerbean i think they sell on Next as well?
a shame you might miss a discount code - but at least it would come 🤞🏻

VT6 · 11/03/2024 11:21

@Emmaev i felt the same about the wait between the 2 scans so I’ve booked a private scan for 16 weeks - as it’s a Friday it’s on offer so I’ve justified it 😂
It’ll be Easter weekend aswell so will be a nice extra to celebrate 🥳

HRP1990 · 11/03/2024 11:32

We bought a portable white noise machine for my daughter but she never ended up needing any noise to sleep, so in that sense we’ve saved a lot in batteries 😂 she’s always been a great sleeper which has been a god send.

I’m 14 weeks this week, my NHS scan is at 19+6, mid April which seems forever but I think we’re going to hold out if we can.

Has anyone thought about how they’d like to find out the gender? We opted to have it written down at the scan and then opened the note that evening at the beach which was lovely. This time I’m thinking maybe having a little cake made and find out just us 3 that weekend or something!

luckyfaith · 11/03/2024 12:17

Hope everyone had a lovely weekend 🥰 Lots of great name suggestions. My favourite boys names are Oliver and Noah but they don't go with the surname and DH isn't keen on either of them 😩 We are yet to agree on a single name! 🤯

We also have Ewan the sheep but my DD never took to it. We have a portable recharge able white noise machine and it's been amazing.

It was a bit of an emotional weekend for me. We announced to everyone we were expecting at the weekend and everyone was super excited for us. We then found my SIL is also pregnant, due date 4 weeks after us. We shared the first pregnancy together (due date 1 week apart) but unfortunately, we lost that baby and I found that period quite tricky. I'm really happy for my SIL, she's really great, and we get on, but my heart sank a bit when I heard the news as it brought back all the feelings / memories and put a bit of a fear in me that things will end the same way. ☹️ Completely irrational I know 😩

Xur · 10/03/2024 21:17

Oh what a day what a day!! I’ve done so much today, unwillingly though, I cannot imagine ever scraping around for any energy to do any of this on week 6,7 or 8. I am exactly 14 weeks today, I feel weird. I’ve stopped craving protein and food in general, I feel like my tastes are changing again and I’m not sure if that is good or bad.
I’ve also decided I will not be nominating names until I find out the gender. I don’t know if it sounds horrible, but I think I am wasting my time breaking my brain over names if I don’t even know what’s in the oven.
I browsed baby clothes yesterday. I think I’m going to be one of those moms who use and apply all my style and creative inspiration on my kids. Whoever saw my house must take me for a very bland person. All my walls are white and all my furniture is either white or gray, but I have a creative sense of style and art and I am itching to dress my kids up really fun and colourful.

@Xur I've been the same these last few days! More energy, normal appetite, basically no nausea.. makes me feel like something is wrong! But remind myself some people get absolutely no symptoms at all

MudandMoet · 11/03/2024 12:41

After all the name talk on here yesterday I got on about it with DH, turns out he actually likes all names on my list but my fave wasn't his top choice. We were watching tv after and both kept randomly adding to the list, it was great. We're down to three top contenders but so much time to change our minds. 1 earthy name and now 2 old traditional names..middle name will be Alice.

Right... you ladies with DC are so good for advice on stuff - another one I'm not sure about ...... Pureflo baby nests.... (or similar) Have looked at the website and they say they're safe (?) but all the guidelines say an absolute no no to them. Thoughts?

longingtobe23 · 11/03/2024 13:03

@HRP1990 if finding gender at nhs scan I’ve had a few friends who have had nhs sonographers not willing to write it down? Said it isn’t their policy. So ask in advance if you need too 🤞🏻
Writing down and going to the beach or a little cake sounds perfect though ✨

@luckyfaith so sorry for your loss that must have been so hard ♥️
I have a vibe (although not similar) going on with sis in law and although I will always be happy for others - as soon as we announced they just blurted out “well we want another too” I felt a bit shocked they didn’t just say “congratulations” 🤦🏼‍♀️ and clearly you don’t get pregnant to one up someone it’s a huge life decision but it was a bit heartless as it’s taken us 3 years to get here. So undermined everything we went through!

of course - you have worries and they’re reasonable. I have to remind myself daily “I’m okay; baby is okay and it’s just another day” - or similar mantras “I am happy and pregnant today” - I think I got it from an infertility pod and pregnancy after loss. It’s been so helpful and I actually smile when I say it or think it.
can’t wait to have a bump to stroke as I say them ✨

ps. I’m not normally a sappy person like that but I had therapy during fertility treatment and honestly I am shocked how effective it is!!

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 11/03/2024 14:13

@MudandMoet I used a sleepyhead with DS and absolutely loved it! Only used it for naps in the day of course - but it was so convenient being able to move it wherever I liked and if I went to my mums or sisters house I would take it with me so he could nap in there too. He actually preferred to nap in there than my arms which was super handy as well as during nap time I'd do things like place it on the bathroom floor and have a bath so I could see him the entire time but had some 'me time' too! I'm not sure why I sold it after he was born but I'll be buying some form of sleeping pod again for this baby!

I second this! @MudandMoet we also used a Sleepyhead/Dockatot I think it’s called now, I’ll 100% be using this again next time. They do say they are not recommended, however I personally had a great experience using one.

HRP1990 · 11/03/2024 14:45

@longingtobe23 I’ve heard the same! Last time the sonographer was happy to write it down for us, however on the slip it said something along the lines of “images suggest, you’re having a girl” so obviously that's suggesting it’s not 100% accurate. It was just a nicer experience to find out what we were having, elsewhere than laying on a bed in the hospital lol

Bakerbean · 11/03/2024 14:54

To those interested in using white noise, has anyone been listening to the Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast and heard about their baby sleep album? It’s got 3 stages to it to help you transition through getting ready for bed, going to sleep, and staying asleep. It’s all beautiful, calming classical music, then followed by 9 hours of white noise! I’ve downloaded it on my Spotify and will definitely pop it on in the background whilst working sometimes throughout the pregnancy to see how much I like it. The podcast itself is SO GOOD too. Some birth & postpartum stories are a real eye opener; might be off putting for some but for me I like to know as much as possible to help feel prepared, so I’m loving it!
