@Butterfly2000 car seats on prams are grown out or become very heavy in under a year and babies can only stay in the car seat for like 2hrs max and much shorter as a newborn.

My son hated being put down at any point in the day so I barely used my carrycot part of the travel system. Instead he lived in a sling and a carrier in and out of the house.

And yes agree with all this. Reality is you're not going to be carrying your baby in Accra seat beyond the trip home from the hospital.... literally in my experience

fleur89 · 05/03/2024 17:48

*a car seat

fleur89 · 05/03/2024 17:46

@Butterfly2000 I find they're not as sturdy, don't turn, and typically only suitable for when they are babies.

I'll check the brand of our isofix one once home. It's great as it lasts from newborn until age 4 (or older as it depends on weight)), you can have it rear facing or front facing, it turns to help you put the baby in the car, it's comfortable (my baby cried constantly with the pram combo one we were gifted and the yo-yo) and it's isofix so meets the highest safety standards.

Plus in reality I had zero situations in which I needed the combo. It's annoying having to reset up the pram, I always keep the car seat in the car and the collapsible pram (yo-yo and Uppababy ones I have both collapse) in the boot. Fixing the car seat onto the pram is a right faff, you have to make sure you buy the right adapters etc., plus I'm useless at this kind of thing - pain if alone.

Meant to say doona not yo-yo here. Doona is like a pram-car seat all in one. Don't recommend, too many tears. And as mentioned they're not allowed to be in that position for more than 2 hours at a time

Just got home from work and we have the maxi cosi 360 pearl car seat

Obviously everyone will have thier own car seat opinion and I'm not trying to be pushy at all. As a lot of first time mums are on here I'd advise some research on extended rear facing car seats. Newer laws are to rear face atleast to 18m but in reality it's much safer to rear face as long as possible. My little boy was 6 when he started forward facing and my little girl is 4 and still rearfaced now.

Honeyandsunshine1 · 05/03/2024 18:18

i bought a koala cuddle band from Vinted with my second and it SAVED. MY. ASS. You put it on like a t shirt so was super easy to slip on and he’d just fall asleep in it every time, so the first 4 months with a 2 year old were 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻 chefs kiss

@Kate543 my almost 2 year old isn’t walking either! If she were I wouldn’t be looking at doubles, but a buggy board instead! She’ll walk when she does of course, but I’m hoping it’s before a newborn comes along to make life abit easier lol

MrsM89 · 05/03/2024 18:24

@Honeyandsunshine1 are they quite flexible in fit? Or come in sizes. X

siobhanmt247 · 05/03/2024 18:45

@fleur89 @HRP1990 is the artipoppe suitable from birth? I have a bjorn carrier at the mo and I had a wrap thing when little one was a newborn but could never get the hang of it so want something already made up

I have the icandy peach at the mo and although I've wanted a lightweight stroller can't stand te thought it paying for a different one when I spent so much on it. I'm going to get the double adapter but hoping she will use a buggy board mostly

Demi55 · 05/03/2024 19:05

Hey all, I’ve not posted in a while. Got my 12 week scan in a week and I’ve seen all the talk about prams / car seats so I wanted to join back in as I’m starting to look at all of the stuff needed, it’s soo expensive!

Starlight11111 · 05/03/2024 19:37

Is anyone feeling sore in their tummy? It's almost like an ache, not in pelvic area more around my middle. 13 ish weeks and it came on last night and hasn't gone away. Feels too high up to be any sort of growing pain. Doesn't feel like trapped wind but who knows!

Lillers · 05/03/2024 19:37

TMI vomit story: Omg, so this evening I was throwing up as I tend to, and I took off my glasses (I always do when I’m being sick because I don’t want to stare into a toilet bowl and don’t want anything splashing back onto them). Cue horrendous panic when everything I threw up was bright red - I honestly thought I was bleeding to death.

Put my glasses back on, fearing the worst: oh no, just the tomato pasta and strawberries that I had for lunch!

fleur89 · 05/03/2024 19:44

@siobhanmt247 yes from newborn so long as your baby isn't born small. Suitable from 7lb / 3.2kg.

I couldn't ever figure out the wraps either. I ended up passing mine on - it felt unsafe to me as she kept slipping out due to my incompetence!

Kate543 · 05/03/2024 19:45

I never used the sling I had much with daughter but I think this time will come in so handy so interested in any and all suggestions regarding that!

@HRP1990 for sure they all get there in their own time, I am sort of hoping by then we might be closer to walking but i fear even if she is she won’t have a lot of stamina 😂

SC126 · 05/03/2024 19:49

@Kate543 i had a close caboo sling. You don't really have to wrap it and it's already done you just slide it over you like a top and then adjust the fit if it needs to be tighter or looser depending on your size. Then baby just slides in. I wore it all day with my eldest and just kept popping him in and out and even drove wearing it so that when I got there it was a case of taking him out of the car seat and slipping him in. I would imagine it's similar to the one someone posted earlier.

Very true lol my daughter is SO sassy it would be a case of not wanting to get onto the buggy board, despite being told to 🙄

HRP1990 · 05/03/2024 19:58

@fleur89 I couldnt work out the sling wraps either lol I ended up selling mine on vinted!

I have seen tops/jumpers that have built in slings that look handy for around the house - doing chores etc! I might look into one of those.

Butterfly2000 · 05/03/2024 20:28

Thanks @fleur89 and @SC126 that's helpful and I'll bear that in mind when we're shopping around. The more I think about it now I'm thinking dh and I might actually rather a sling for those first few trips out. We'll be going for walks or to see family or a trip to the shops at most. So many things to think about!

Oh @Lillers you poor thing, I would have panicked. I'm sorry to say it did make me chuckle a little 🙈 Hope you're ok though

ForeverHopeful67 · 05/03/2024 20:38

I second the oyster 3 - lovely travel system and faired us well!

We also then went on to the joie brisk stroller as she started getting bigger and walking more! - and to take up less boot space!

Does anyone have any recommendations for baby carriers? My almost 3 year old keeps me on my toes and I think it will be a good investment!

Xur · 05/03/2024 21:56

@Lillers typical glass wearers issues😂 I have -4,25 and I wear mainly lenses, but I do have periods with glasses when Im resting my eyes. I feel blind in the shower even 😂

MudandMoet · 05/03/2024 22:53

@cd24x that's a good point about the sling/carrier. I've watched a few clips on insta when they've popped up on adverts. They seem so complicated to get baby into but I'm sure once you've done it a time or two it becomes easy. Definitely needs more thought. Will look at the baby bjorn thanks @fleur89 I think it's an ergo baby (?) that pops up on my insta. Just caught up and will look at the made up ones too that you adjust when on, they sound more up my street.

Lillers · 06/03/2024 05:43

@Xur I’m -5.5 so also very blind in the shower! I wear lenses a lot of the time but when I’m feeling crap I can’t be bothered. I do love giving myself an eye break sometimes and just being like, “nope, don’t fancy seeing right now!” 😂

HRP1990 · 06/03/2024 09:46

On our way to our scan this morning - finally the day has come!

fleur89 · 06/03/2024 09:49

Good luck @HRP1990 ! I have one tomorrow at 9am 😬

hol92 · 06/03/2024 10:10

Good luck 😃 mine is next Thursday and still feels so far away, feel like I'm having a wobble today, just want scan day here! Anyone else got there's next week ? X
