I noticed the other thread was full and have started a new one.

Lovely to hear of everyone’s 20 week scans. Thanks to those of you who gave me a list of baby essentials, very helpful!

Hope you’re all doing well!

@AnonymousXXIX @Sophie3003 wrote it much better 😂 so yes the need to know of your intention 15 weeks before but they technically don't need the form at the same time HR will likely just be being organised and want to get it sorted beforehand.

Sophie3003 · 02/04/2024 20:40

@bringmearainbow guilty as charged...a payroll and pensions manager by trade 🤣

chilliflakesmum · 03/04/2024 12:39

Hi all! How are you all doing?
I'm 27 weeks tomorrow and insomnia has well and truly arrived 😭 Suffered from it when I was pregnant with my first too, so I did expect it. Has anyone got any useful tips? Anyone tried any acupuncture to help pregnancy insomnia before?

Morningcoffeeaddict · 03/04/2024 15:46

@chilliflakesmum mine has got better since taking Magnesium again. I’m also trying a bit of yoga before bed (only about 10mins) and one of those things does seem to be helping - probably the magnesium. I’m not as far along as you though (24 weeks) so this may be a short lived improvement

Sophie3003 · 03/04/2024 16:36

I am also taking magnesium, not sure if it is helping. I don't sleep as well as I did pre-pregnancy but still not bad however when I was pregnant with my daughter I had 9 months of horrendous pregnancy insomnia which drove me absolutely mad. Was so pleased when she was born and I could finally sleep!

chilliflakesmum · 03/04/2024 18:28

Thanks both - i have magnesium spray for my restless feet. I'll definitely look into magnesium in tablet form tonight!
Oh no @Sophie3003 9 months of it must have been pure torture!! I had 3 months of it with my son, and that was enough! Hah yes, as soon as he was out, I slept so much better even though I had a newborn 😂

I hate it when people tell me to 'make the most of my sleep now' 😂

Sophie3003 · 03/04/2024 18:32

The doctor last time advised me to take piriton also for the drowsy effect- made no difference to me unfortunately!

hopingfor23 · 03/04/2024 19:40

Hi ladies,

Went for a check today as feeling so uncomfortable with similar symptoms to when I was 38 weeks with my son (in 25 weeks now) - midwife suspects polyhydramnios which is high amniotic fluid levels. I'm now worrying myself sick and googling 🤦‍♀️ any experiences of this? They've booked me in for a scan on may 1st which feels ages away but I also have a diabetes glucose test booked anyway as I'm on metformin so standard to check it. I suspected something wasn't right as I'm honestly huge and feeling as uncomfortable as I was late in pregnancy but I'm hoping this is something and nothing? X

wannabe123 · 03/04/2024 21:37

@hopingfor23 that does sound worrying. Hopefully, it's nothing too serious. Googling symptoms/conditions can be the scariest thing sometimes.

I think I've started having Braxton Hicks. I didn't have them last time but get a weird tightening feeling a couple of times a day. It doesn't hurt at all - just feels strange. It's either that or baby doing some massive rolling or something. I know BH are normal but considering I thought my labour last time was just BH for a while it's making me feel quite anxious. Has anybody else had any BH?

Morningcoffeeaddict · 04/04/2024 06:53

@chilliflakesmum its worth a try definitely- I did check with the midwife and she said magnesium is really good for you and growing baby but to double check how much you’re getting from any multivitamin before taking it on its own to make sure the dose isn’t too much. I’m taking half the mag dose that I did pre-pregnancy as there’s some but not much/enough in the multivit.

@Sophie3003 - I love sleep so much 9 months of insomnia sounds like torture. I’d say I’m also not sleeping as well as pre-pregnancy but better than I was before I started topping the magnesium back up. Midwife wasn’t hugely helpful just said “pregnant women don’t sleep” - sigh.

Morningcoffeeaddict · 04/04/2024 06:55

@hopingfor23 - that does sound worrying. I’ve no experience but sending lots of positive thoughts your way. May does feel ages away if you’re worried- can you ask if they can do any sooner? If not they may at least be able to reassure you there’s less to worry about than you think which is why it isn’t sooner.

BananaHammock23 · 04/04/2024 08:04

Hi everyone. I'm 27 weeks tomorrow and I feel it! I've been feeling really rough the past few weeks with complete exhaustion - I fall asleep the minute I sit down on the sofa. Also looking really pale and feeling generally quite sick and unwell. Then I remembered i had low iron and b12 when pregnant with DS in 2021. I asked my midwife to check my levels (actually had to force her to after her saying I could wait two weeks until my GD test 🙄) it turns out my b12 levels are half what they should be. I'm having 6 'loading dose' injections of b12 over the next two weeks which made me feel much better last time. I can't believe I suffered for this long without connecting the dots! Anyway just thought I'd post here incase anyone else was feeling the same way!

I asked yesterday why it can't be sooner after spending all night wondering and the midwife replied saying it's because that's the point that they know of it's defo an issue as fluid fluctuates until that point so fair enough. I have a 4d scan booked the week after next so may ask if they can have a look and give their thoughts? Meanwhile just going to try not google any more 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Morningcoffeeaddict · 04/04/2024 08:52

@BananaHammock23 glad you got to the bottom of it and you’re feeling better! Thanks for sharing!

@hopingfor23 definitely stop googling - I’m fairly sure it only ever has worst case scenarios so it never makes you feel any better. The midwife’s comment makes sense, frustrating but sounds like you’ll have to be patient. Can always ask at the 4D scan - on my notes for my 12 and 20 week scans they’ve made a comment on fluid but just said “subjectively appears normal” which suggests they can’t tell very much I guess.

Oatmilktea · 04/04/2024 09:56

Hope you’re ok @hopingfor23. It’s always so worrying when you are told something out of the ordinary.

I have a low lying placenta and woke up with bleeding this morning. I was so upset as my partner wasn’t at home and I was so worried. His dad is very unwell and he is visiting him in a hospital two hours away so feels torn on where to be!

I came straight to the maternity assessment unit who checked baby’s heartbeat and it’s fine thank goodness. The bleeding has stopped but they are keeping me in for at least 24 hours for obs.

We are moving house a week tomorrow and have paperwork to sign at the solicitors tomorrow 🤦🏻‍♀️ it just all seems to happen at once!

Yea mine also said 'amniotic fluid normal' so must be a recent development and hopefully means it will go back to normal 🙏🙏🙏

Oh gosh that must have been scary and especially alone. Have you got anyone that can come and be with you? Sending love. You're in the best place and sound alike it's just precautionary and at least you know why x these babies are testing aren't they!!!

Jess725 · 04/04/2024 10:07

Hello ladies!! Huraayyy, thanks so much for the sleep tip!

Would you be able to tell me where you can get the best sleep magnesium - magnesium glycinate. I have been trying to track it down, maybe it's baby brain I don't know but I just can't find the right one, only finding magnesium citrate online and in the shops 😂

EDIT oh dear, ive literally just found a great site for the magnesium....

I'm tackling the matb1 form with the self employment offices today!!

Sophie3003 · 04/04/2024 10:13

@Jess725 I just bought magnesium, is there a specific type we should have? Could you share details if so please ☺️?

Morningcoffeeaddict · 04/04/2024 10:18

@hopingfor23 fingers crossed for you.

@Oatmilktea - hope you’re doing ok and the midwives are taking good care of you. Glad baby is doing alright, it’s so tough when you’re in hospital on your own so sending you lots of love and positivity

Morningcoffeeaddict · 04/04/2024 10:20

@Sophie3003 - there’s a couple of types that all do slightly different things (and some can upset your stomach I’m told). The magnesium glycinate is the best for sleep and gentle on digestion - I get mine from Beauty Pie if you happen to be a member with them. My nutritionist checked the label and was happy with it but she did recommend another one I can try to find the name of if it helps.

Oatmilktea · 04/04/2024 10:57

Thanks so much 💕 I keep getting so upset thinking of my dog who was so confused with me being upset this morning 😂🤦🏻‍♀️😢 luckily we have an amazing dog walker who was able to pick him up shortly after I left for hospital and will keep him until I’m discharged
