I noticed the other thread was full and have started a new one.

Lovely to hear of everyone’s 20 week scans. Thanks to those of you who gave me a list of baby essentials, very helpful!

Hope you’re all doing well!

@Oatmilktea nearly snap. I had my obstetrics appointment today, 2 hours 10 minutes late! Why they didn't warn people when they checked in I don't know. I had the usual urine, BP. Then all the doctor discussed was vitamin D and asprin (discussed at 12 week scan and written in blue book), results of anomaly scan and genetic tests and how I was feeling. This has all been covered by midwifes at previous appointments/in blue book. When i said i was minded to a c section due to birthing anxiety/age she said there was an 80% chance of the low lying placenta correcting itself so c section not indicated despite being 40+, then a referral to a birthing plan clinic when I said I was still minded that way. Oh...and a listen to the heartbeat which was optional. I left feeling more stressed as the whole thing including travel was 3.5 hours and seemed utterly pointless. I'm minded to give feedback as I work in the NHS in complaints and am always a huge advocate of the establishment and the staff but honestly I left feeling completely bemused by the point of the whole appointment.

22+2 weeks and my acidity has become so awful. Really not enjoying food at all. I feel like all those videos of pregnant women eating to their hearts content/binge eating is a lie. The GERD is killing me. I haven't gained any weight since week 14. So I'm up by 10 pounds since the start of my pregnancy. I'm fine with that as long as baby is the right weight (which they are) but man I wish I could just survive without food. The only thing that I can eat without issues is fruit.

Anyone else feel this way? Any solution?

Savvy21 · 28/03/2024 06:25

@MyNameIsBatty I think you need to go in stronger if you want a c-section and if possible take someone with you. I went into my appointment wanting a c-section and then left thinking I didn't. I'm now very confused and not sure what I want.

MyNameIsBatty · 28/03/2024 06:54

@Savvy21 thanks, I know I can be too accommodating at my own expense often so I need to be more determined at the next appointment! Have you anyone who has been through both or who is a clinican who you can ask? That's what I've relied on as there is so much conflicting information and costs/benefits to both.

@ceruleansky no advice I'm afraid but sounds rotten for you.

Sophie3003 · 28/03/2024 08:28

@MyNameIsBatty have you had a previous caesarean? If you have then you should have a consultant's appointment to discuss options for birth this time, if not they don't tend to have consultant appointments for this sort of thing, you tend to just discuss and plan what you would like with your midwife. I have had good discussions with a consultant and additional information plus another appointment to make a final decision but it's because I had a previous caesarean.

Hi Everyone,

I am a little late to the party. I'm 22w+2. I have been quietly stalking all the comments over the past couple of months. 😁Thank you all! It's been reassuring to hear similar experiences to what I have been going through. I've finally gotten myself in gear enough to set up a mumsnet account so I could join in on the conversation.

Baby was super curled up at the 20w scan. Sonographer said he is as certain as he can be we're having a girl, but that it's not 100%.

@ceruleansky I thought we would be birth buddies, but at last scan my EDD was brought forward a day so now due on 30th July.

@MyNameIsBatty oh wow I’m surprised to hear that regarding the c section. I have to say, when I mentioned wanting a c section to my consultant at my first appointment prior to knowing I had a low lying placenta they were very accommodating and gave me some reading and said they will respect my choice. I since have been told I have a low lying placenta and am 100% decided I would like a section even if my placenta moves

@HereAtlonglast Welcome to the July crew!

Savvy21 · 28/03/2024 16:38

@MyNameIsBatty quite a few of my friends had a nice c-section experience. I've not known anyone go through one and then the other. I have a consultant chat anyway because of past history but I think they'll just give me the risks and then I have to make my own decision. I just want someone to make the decision for me haha.

MyNameIsBatty · 29/03/2024 01:46

@Savvy21 wouldn't it be fab if someone else made the decision! It's so confusing!
@Sophie3003 no first baby, but was told by midwife to discuss with doctor rather than with them?!
@Oatmilktea sounds like a fantastic consultation, bit jealous 😀
@HereAtlonglast Hiya!!

I think the difficulty is that it entirely depends on the hospital Trust and the individual staff at any given time. Bit of a nightmare navigating the system.

Today's nugget is that the hospital have just realised (despite my telling them) that i had some treatment for abnormal cells following a cervical smear. However, they've mislaid my notes from my loop diathermy around 10 years ago and have decided that I should now have a transvaginal scan to look at the length of my cervix. But, as I'll be 24 weeks and they usually do the scan at 20 weeks, it might not tell them anything at all!!!

Bluebonnet3 · 29/03/2024 07:35

@MyNameIsBatty I had a similar loop procedure last year, and they have measured my cervix length a couple of times, including when I was around 25 weeks. Don't worry, it should be fine! It tends to be an internal scan, and they will take several measurements. They have a range of numbers that they consider low risk in terms of causing early delivery and some shorter lengths that increase the risk. I think it's so they can keep an eye on whether you might need a stitch to keep baby in there longer. In my case, I'm low risk, but it's good for them to know what to look for, to keep you and your little one healthy and safe. Good luck!

MyNameIsBatty · 29/03/2024 08:09

Thanks @Bluebonnet3, that's reassuring.

Sophie3003 · 29/03/2024 08:37

@MyNameIsBatty the midwives should discuss your birth plan with you later on. My midwife said it was madness that the consultant could discuss with me at 12 weeks but they are not allowed to discuss that or feeding until later on in the pregnancy (it should tell you in your folder what should be covered in each appointment).

ChilliFiend · 29/03/2024 12:28

Hey mamas, first time poster here (just found this thread), 23w+6 and first time mum at 39 (40 in April). We're expecting our baby girl on 20 July. 😍 What a wild and miraculous ride this is!

Wishing you all a lovely Easter weekend! 🐣

Oatmilktea · 29/03/2024 15:13

Welcome @ChilliFiend! We are nearly due date twins, I’m due on the 19th. How has your pregnancy been so far?

@HereAtlonglast
Welcome, glad you decided to join in!! :) congratulations to you!! We could still be birth buddies who knows! 🤣

@MyNameIsBatty
It's alright! I guess it could be a lot worse..!

Nocoffeenotalkie · 02/04/2024 09:26

Reached 24 weeks (always a relief when I hit that milestone) still no MATB1 form. Work are very antsy about it. GP said has to be midwife, so despite the fact I'm not supposed to see her at 24/25 weeks (2nd baby), I've had to make an appointment just to get my maternity leave form!
Had to remove my wedding rings this week too due to chunky fingers 🤦‍♀️

MrsHousePlant · 02/04/2024 09:48

@Nocoffeenotalkie I’m clinging on day by day being able to wear my rings but I know they’ll have to be off soon!

I had my 25 week appt and still didn’t get my MATB1 so need to chase it this week.

AnonymousXXIX · 02/04/2024 10:16

I finally managed to get a hold of my MAT B1 form last week! Had to make a specific appointment for it. Relieved because my manager was starting to get nervous about it.

Nocoffeenotalkie · 02/04/2024 12:53

@AnonymousXXIX how many weeks are you? My work has been asking me for it since 20 weeks. There seems to be a discrepancy between work expectations and when the midwives hand them out.

Bali200 · 02/04/2024 13:33

I got mine at my 25 week MW appointment last week @Nocoffeenotalkie hope you get yours soon.

missmoosh · 02/04/2024 13:38

Hope you get yours soon! I got mine after I turned 20 weeks. Had spoken to midwife at prior appointment, and she said to just email her when I was 20 weeks and she would leave it for me to collect! Sorry to hear some of you are having trouble getting it! Not a stress anyone needs!

bringmearainbow · 02/04/2024 16:12

I was going to ask for mine at my 28w appointment I don't think employers actually need it until you start Mat leave 🤔

AnonymousXXIX · 02/04/2024 16:57

bringmearainbow · 02/04/2024 16:12

My organisation (somewhat confusingly) states "You must apply for maternity leave by the end of the 15th week before your baby is due." So for me that would actually be next week at the latest!

Sophie3003 · 02/04/2024 16:59

Legally you have to inform of your intention to take maternity leave by the 15th week before your baby is due but it is standard practice since Covid to get the MATB1 at 28 weeks. As long as payroll have it before you need to get paid it's fine but just doesn't work well from a HR confirming your enrolment in advance etc.
