Waaah today was a good day sickness-wise, until about an hour ago when I started feeling rubbish and then was sick again. First time that’s happened in the evening for me - I’m usually mid-morning to early afternoon!

Whenever I’m unwell, I love looking at the biology of why my body is doing particular things, and I am starting to get very annoyed with the explanations for morning sickness being: “ooh it’s all to do with women and hormones and therefore it’s a magical mystery that cannot be explained wooooo”. Honestly scientists, do some research! There has to be a physical reason!

HRP1990 · 16/02/2024 19:30

@Lillers I’m sure I read recently that the nausea/morning sickness was to do with an increased level of hormones in the body. I guess that sounds obvious, not sure why it affects some more than others though!

Kofifi · 16/02/2024 19:37

Checking in!

I'm now 9+2 and having my next scan in 3 weeks. I told a few people already because I felt like I needed the support but now kind of regretting it.

Everything just feels so delicate and uncertain.

Lillers · 16/02/2024 19:47

@HRP1990 That was an interesting read. I guess what I want to know is why does that hormone cause sickness - what is it physically doing that makes the body decide to be sick? I hope they get to the bottom of it one day.

MudandMoet · 16/02/2024 20:31

@HRP1990 😂 I see now what you mean to stop folk around you constantly asking. No, I'll probably just say whatever date they give me, does it really get that much of a big deal you wouldn't say? Very few are born on the actual predicted day surely.

HRP1990 · 16/02/2024 20:46

I guess it’s personal preference! @MudandMoet Being 5 days overdue, huge and miserable last time.. the “any signs yet!?” texts were a constant reminder that I was still in fact overdue, huge and miserable 😂

FirstTimeMum887 · 16/02/2024 20:53

Week 11+5 here and the nausea came back in full force this morning. Whyyyyyyyyyy???? I am properly sick wtf I thought I was over the worst of it?!

DH and I have a booking at a very expensive restaurant and I spent £££ getting my hair done, I wanted a special date night and now all I want is to crawl under my duvet!

Kofifi · 16/02/2024 20:59

@HRP1990 I'm planning to tell people I'm due a week or two later than actually. I know getting hassled for updates would stress me out.

HolyMoly24 · 16/02/2024 21:01

I was 16 days overdue with my first and I ended up having mute so many people on WhatsApp and across social media, it was driving me insane!

If I have an elective c section then I won't mind telling people the date because there's no chance of it dragging on.

hol92 · 16/02/2024 21:10

With my first I went into labour 3 weeks early and me thinking everyone is overdue with first thought it might be a false alarm so told my husband to stay in bed as he had work early but then ended in emergency section an hour later because he was breech 🤣 all of my friends and family have all been overdue every time so now I keep wondering if this one will be early!

I have my private scan in the morning and starting to get nervous, I'm sure my boobs don't hurt very much any more, my nausea is still there but I feel a lot more clear headed today which I know is silly but is making me worry a bit !

Babno3 · 16/02/2024 22:03

Is anyone booking early scans? I’ve already had a scan at 8+6 weeks and all good. But now my symptoms are so low and I’ve cramps that I’m just expecting the worst and so I’ve booked at scan for tomorrow morning at 11. Feel like I’m just throwing money around me but I also can’t sit here any longer without knowing if baby is ok 😢xx

Bb542 · 16/02/2024 22:04

Hi everyone, just popping over from the October thread to ask when the nausea stopped for anyone who it's stopped for already? I hate boats and it feels like I've been on one for the past few weeks 🤣 hope you're all doing well otherwise ❤️

MrsB2019x · 16/02/2024 22:16

@Bb542 Congratulations! Mine stopped around 9.5/10 weeks. I’m 11+2 today and have felt totally normal for over a week! But with my daughter I was regularly being sick until 17 weeks. So it really does depend on the pregnancy, sorry! ☹️ Hope you find some relief soon x

@Bb542 my nausea stopped around 9 weeks. Definitely eased when I was eating and full. Hope it stops soon, it's a horrible feeling. It makes you really feel for those actually being sick.

MrsB2019x · 16/02/2024 22:19

On that note does anyone else around 11/12 weeks feel pretty much normal? I’m still having insomnia and I’m so tired but other than that I’m fine? Thankfully I haven’t felt sick for over a week, and my boobs have stopped hurting entirely. I do feel my belly getting bigger so I’m hoping I’m just lucky but I am starting to get kinda anxious 😕

@Babno3 I've had 4 scans already, but I'm considered high risk in the first trimester. Fingers crossed I get past 12 weeks and then I'll drop to every 4 weeks until the last 4 weeks when I'll do weekly.

I gave birth to my daughter in Hong Kong's private system and I'm used to a lot of oversight. This kind of frequency is what I had access to with her. Since her I've lost 3 babies so tbh I'm not thinking twice about the cost of additional check ups. It's been a long road to get this far 🙏

MudandMoet · 16/02/2024 22:44

@MrsB2019x I'm the same here. The lack of sleep is terrible but other than that nothing else now. It's quite worrying to be around three months along and not feel pregnant at all.

Thanks for replying 🥰 hopefully mine will peak then too. I'm almost 7 weeks and really struggling 😞

MudandMoet · 16/02/2024 22:53

@Bb542 a lot of us on here agreed that nibbling on either rich tea or ginger biscuits helped ease the nausea feeling. Also, for many of us, lots of salty snacks seemed to be consumed during this phase. Hopefully it'll pass soon (then you'll worry you've got no symptoms like me and @MrsB2019x right now 🤣🤦🏼‍♀️) xx

Thanks so much! I'm back in work next week (teacher) so going to try and have a stash on biscuits in my bag to eat throughout the day. Also not going to feel guilty if I need to take a day off here and there when I'm really bad. I'd be no use in work anyway.

Glad you're out the other side. I'm due early October so feel like if I go early I could have a September baby 🥰

Xur · 17/02/2024 01:13

@Bb542 at 8 seeks it dimmed down and week 10 I’ve had no nausea.

@MrsB2019x I’m exactly like you. 10+6 today and my boobs don’t feel sensitive either. I still got pimples on my shoulders though (a very weird pregnancy symptom) not sure if it’s common or not.

Decaffe · 17/02/2024 04:16

Woke at 3:15 needing the loo. This is it for me today now, I can never go back to sleep. Absolutely gutted, I am so tired in the daytime! Would do anything for half a Nytol 😭

Lillers · 17/02/2024 07:07

@Bb542 I’m a teacher as well and have found it really hard being at work - I’ve already taken time off because I was just so tired and nauseous. When I have been in work, the ginger biscuits have helped, but I have also had a bag of mint imperials in my desk so I can suck on one of those during lessons, and that really helped with the nausea stage.

I’m now into the full on throwing up stage, which has been manageable this week because of half term, but I am worried about how that will work back at work, especially seeing as mine is hitting suddenly at random points in the day.
