Congratulations @DmcinT and all those who have had their babies in the last couple of days. Hope things get easier for you @Ebonythoughts its always so much better when you get home and have your husband on hand, get plenty of nipple cream in and as much skin to skin as possible to encourage your milk ❤️

Hankthehonk · 18/02/2024 09:32

Huge congratulations @DmcinT I've been wondering how you were doing!
@Ebonythoughts my first night in hospital after my c section was exactly like that. They let my husband stay the following night (we had a private room thankfully) because I'd struggled so much on night one.
We haven't had another night like that since my milk came in so hopefully it will be short lived for you too. I know it's incredibly difficult but remember it's totally natural/normal, and that you need to buzz the midwives just as much as necessary. I hope you can either get home if you're ready, or have your partner in with you. It might be worth asking that question.

Ihatewinding · 18/02/2024 09:58

@Ebonythoughts do not let them make you stay in until you poop without good reason! That could take days and you'll feel so much better at home.
Could the midwife support workers help you with expressing colostrum now? I literally had a midwife milk my boob while I held baby to encourage flow with my first. Though you may feel more comfortable with them holding baby to you while you express etc.
Make sure you're drinking plenty too.

Congratulations to those who have had their babies as well. Sorry to hear about those struggling with recovery Flowers I think all postnatal stays should be in individual rooms and birth partners allowed to stay overnight tbh.

Second night in hospital post section with baby and struggling with lack of sleep. She is latching and feeding wonderfully but as I’m trying to exclusively breastfeed, I’ve realised it more than feeding. She wants to constantly be skin to skins and sleep on my breasts. Every time I settle her and get ready to rest she starts crying and won’t stop until she’s near my breasts. Even if she doesn’t want to feed, she only sleeps when she’s near my chest so I need up staying awake holding her so she can sleep. I am exhausted and a result feel really light headed and have a headache. Midwives around me keep trying to settle him in the cot but when she doesn’t stop they get her out and pass her me to put on my chest again.

I’m really exhausted and need to sleep, what can I do?

I had this during my second night in hospital too. One of the midwife support workers helped me create a mother pillow (think that’s what she called it), so baby and I essentially co slept. Baby needed to be close to me but was able to sleep and stop the cluster feeds. The midwife kept popping in to check we hadn’t moved, and it helped me get a few hours sleep.

anony1111 · 18/02/2024 11:05

@undercoverhero74 I'm still waddling round too, if I walk much slower I think I will stop 🤣
39 weeks tomorrow and still no signs 😩 I'm rather fed up now too tbh and baby is back to back!
How are you coping?

AllAboardTootToot · 18/02/2024 11:10

Congrats on all the baby news, wonderful to see the updates! ❤️

im still waddling too @anony1111. About to go waddle around Tesco’s to see if the prices shock me into labour 🙈😂

Had some pains last few days but nothing. One difference in last 24 hours is a lot of stomach upset, loose stools so praying it’s getting things moving. So ready to meet our little girl!

Agreed. Our trust was 'pass wind' before you could leave - it might take ages to have a poo. Ask them for some lactulose if they haven't given it, and also peppermint oil for trapped wind can really help

Congrats on the other new babies ❤️

CheeseAndCrackersx · 18/02/2024 11:24

Sending you all the love @Ebonythoughts 🥰
Even though I'm bottle feeding, my little man was exactly the same on night 2. The midwife doing the discharge talk thing me and 1 other lady had said it happens whether breast or bottle. Xx

anony1111 · 18/02/2024 11:37

@AllAboardTootToot those prices are enough to shock anyone into labour 🤣
Ohhh hopefully things will start soon as they are all good signs 🤞🏼

undercoverhero74 · 18/02/2024 11:41

@anony1111 yes I'm 39 weeks tomorrow too and super fed up! I had convinced myself
She would be here by now but no such luck.
Overall I'm really well, just uncomfortable and the pressure in my pelvis has been intense the last few days. How are you?

@AllAboardTootToot that sounds promising! I'm literally over analysing every bodily function just hoping it will be the start of things!

This is my second baby and over the last few days I can't help but feel a bit sad that my first born is suddenly going to seem so grown up 😭😭 he is only 4 but I just know as soon as the baby arrives he will just be so much more independent and not my little squish anymore. Anyone else feel like this? I also feel super guilty that he will have to share my attention and that it won't be just the two of us anymore. We can't wait for baby to arrive and couldn't be more excited just stupid hormones throwing perspective out the window.

undercoverhero74 · 18/02/2024 08:12

@mummylove24 how's it's all going? It does sound very much like the start of things! Good luck!! X

@undercoverhero74 Thanks hun. Im still about 40 seconds every 10 mins, it’s painful but bearable, I haven’t slept. I’m back in the bath tub. I called hospital they said to go to Triage for assessment and depending I might stay or they’ll tell me to carry on at home. Lucky I live less than 10 min drive from hospital 💖

anony1111 · 18/02/2024 12:01

@undercoverhero74 these last few weeks are such a struggle mentally I find, I think it's the not knowing when anything is going to happen. Glad you are well though and I hope the pelvic pain isn't too unbearable.
I have been unwell with a cold/ridiculous cough all week so not felt great. Now I can't tell if it's pain from coughing or baby so I've just given up hope this week 😂
I echo you on the emotions of this being second baby, my little (maybe not so little now) boy is 6 and I feel sad for him in a way and have moments of have I done the right thing?! Of course my love for him will never change but I'm going to have to divide my time between them both now and so scared he's gonna feel pushed out 😔 after all it's just been him for the last 6 years!

LavenderSweetPea · 18/02/2024 12:41

@AllAboardTootToot 😱I've just realised I went to Tesco to buy nappies only hours before I went into labour... Maybe it's a thing!

KayakingBex · 18/02/2024 12:56

Congratulations on all the new mamas. Just been catching up with this thread.

Reading all the posts about breastfeeding I wish I’d followed along a bit more over the last few days. I really struggled with breastfeeding and was kept back in the MAU until Thursday due to concerns about little ones feeding. Reading your posts makes me realise it’s super common to have some trouble / need to do top up feeds which is some comfort. ps we also used formula occasionally as top ups when I’ve not got enough expressed milk.

one thing I’ll add - nipple shields really saved me this week. I was finding breastfeeding harder than expressing. Nipple shields helped my boy get a better latch and protected my poor nipples somewhat. I know they aren’t for everyone and it took a bit of experimenting to find the right size but might be something other suffering mamas might want to try.

RachLeeds · 18/02/2024 13:36

Hi ladies! Just popping in to say hello and read all the updates. Sounds like a few of you are so close to meeting your babies now. I can’t believe my little boy is one week old already! 🥰

To the mum’s who have given birth already, how are your tummies? I keep get these random aching pains but presume that’s just my uterus contracting back to normal?

Thewildthingsarewithme · 18/02/2024 14:11

@AllAboardTootToot my waters have just gone spectacularly all over the Sainsbury’s car park so you might also be in luck 😂 I had a sweep two days ago and cervix was high and long but I’ve done loads of walking/bouncing and attempting to express over the last two days and convinced that’s what has got things moving! Good luck

CheeseAndCrackersx · 18/02/2024 14:14

Yeah @RachLeeds it's our uterus settling back down. I thought it feels similar to when we get stitch 😄xx

anony1111 · 18/02/2024 15:07

@RachLeeds what a beautiful little boy 🥰

@Thewildthingsarewithme omg 🤣 good luck and I hope labour and birth go well for you!

I feel like I might need a supermarket trip now 🤔🤣

Kelb79 · 18/02/2024 15:07

Big big love to all the new mummas!!! ❤️❤️❤️ it’s amazing reading the updates!! But making me so impatient!! 🫣🫣🤣🤣

I’m still holding on tight despite the mucus show. A few tightenings but nothing else significant. I think this one’s made themselves quite at home and in no rush whatsoever to move 😏

I’m trying to stay active, our restaurant has reopened so I’ve been down there and involved much to customers surprise 🤣🤣 but I still feel pretty good most of the time so I definitely don’t think we’re close! 😩

sweep booked for Tuesday, scan on Wednesday and induction on Thursday if things don’t get moving 🫣🫣🫣 come oooooonnn baby!!!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

AllAboardTootToot · 18/02/2024 15:46

@anony1111 @LavenderSweetPea @Thewildthingsarewithme @undercoverhero74

there is something in the supermarket shop!

last 90 mins I’ve been getting pains and real tightening every 5-7 mins.

think will be a call to triage to check soon. Had some white thick discharge also.

Get to the supermarket if you are wanting to push it 😂😂

@AllAboardTootToot how exciting this might be it! Maybe try visiting Waitrose or something if you really want things to escalate ;)

undercoverhero74 · 18/02/2024 15:56

@AllAboardTootToot I will go straight to Sainsbury's after school drop off tomorrow! I will literally try anything to get things moving.

Anyone tried Raspberry leaf tea and have any success?

AllAboardTootToot · 18/02/2024 15:59

@LavenderSweetPea genuinely made me lol 😂😂😂

anony1111 · 18/02/2024 16:03

@AllAboardTootToot no way! How exciting!!
Did the tightenings start once you saw the total price of your shop 🤣🤣

@undercoverhero74 I bought a big box off Amazon and tried to drink it many ways but I just couldn't stomach it 🤢 so gave it up as a bad job!
Tastes very grassy 😂

AllAboardTootToot · 18/02/2024 16:12

@anony1111 quite possibly 😂😂
