My scan 2 weeks today I will be exactly 8 weeks… So very nervous!!

CluelessInLondon · 10/02/2024 11:11

Happy weekend everyone! So many new posts to catch up on since yesterday afternoon!

@SeaBridge @Nic2908 Thanks for the thoughts on managing anxiety in early pregnancy after loss - I like the idea of 'controlling the controllables', I am a bit of a control freak so pregnancy is hard for someone like me anyway even without factoring in the previous miscarriage, as it's hard not really knowing what's going on!

@nervousn3lly It's positive that you got to see the yolk sac at your scan, it's hard to see much so early on - fingers crossed you can see more at your next one and it gives you the reassurance you need.

@pm24 Welcome and congratulations - I hope the blood test and scan next week go well for you.

@Sunandsea13 My first scan is next Friday when I'll be 7+2 - I would probably have waited until 8 weeks if I was getting a private scan but as it's the EGU I just took the first slot they offered me! I think you're doing the sensible thing waiting a little bit longer for your scan, they can just create anxiety if you don't get to see much, even if it's normal for that stage.

@4LeafCloverBaby Good luck for the scan tomorrow!

@MegaManicMama That's really positive that you got to see the heartbeat already - will you book any other scans yourself now or just wait for 12 weeks?

I'm another one who's struggling a bit with sleeping - not full-on insomnia but I woke up a few times last night and just felt really hot and uncomfortable and took a while to get back to sleep. Plus every time I turned over to try and get to sleep again it squashed my boobs and that hurt! Think a mid-afternoon nap might be in order today...

LuxeBiscuit · 10/02/2024 15:37

@Sunandsea13 I've been waking up really early as well. I've always been a night owl but I've been getting sleepy at 9/10pm for the last week. I guess we may need to adjust to the change in body clock'

Vik27 · 10/02/2024 16:36

I’m waiting for the tiredness and fatigue to hit . Keep waking up 5am ish every morning and not getting back to sleep. Other days I’m awake for hours in the middle of the night. It’s not like me at all

MrsFruitie · 10/02/2024 18:14

Has anyone experienced cramping/pulling pains at around 4 weeks? I got a positive really early 3+3 so I’m freaking out about chances ectopic or loss. 🙈 I can’t remember anything like this with my son.

Bee49 · 10/02/2024 18:47

@Bb542 not yet but 5+5 is probably exactly where it hit me the last two times. I’m 5 weeks tomorrow so I’m expecting to be feeling very sorry for myself next weekend. I also found it absolutely crippling. I could barely function. If you’re really struggling I’d ask the GP for some anti sickness. I found they made me even more tired so I didn’t stick with them but it’s worth a go. There are also several different ones you can try.

@Vik27 exactly as you say. Awake at 5 every morning and can’t go back to sleep. Also expecting that to change in the next week. I was so tired with my son.

@MrsFruitie yes had cramping and pulling from when I got my positive until just over 4 weeks. It’s all really normal! I think it’s implantation?

CluelessInLondon · 10/02/2024 18:54

@MrsFruitie Yes, I had that heavy/pulling sensation from about 4+4 on and off for a few days. Not painful but just a bit uncomfortable/weird feeling - seems to be very normal though, lots of people get it!

Kittykiki · 10/02/2024 18:57

@Sunandsea13 and @Oct24 - I followed your advice and went for a blood test this morning. Amazingly got results this evening - can't believe how speedy it was even on a Saturday!

It said HCG was 964 which looks like it's in the normal range for where I think I am (4.5 weeks) - but obviously the range is enormous so the paranoid bit of my brain is already getting anxious about a gap widening etc etc etc....!

Trying to step away from the testing and temptation to get another blood test in a few days just to "check" and just focus on the fact that at the moment at least my levels are normal enough for a rational person to stop worrying, so I should try to put this out of my head for now....!

Given that the whole thing that kicked this off was a clearblue test putting me behind where I thought I was, I think I just need to try and forget that whole test (when I think my levels are higher than the clear blue threshold would have been anyway - so another sign not to put too much store by things like darkness of lines or digital readings)

but thanks so much for the wise words and helpful advice! Fingers crossed for us all

Xx

Kittykiki · 10/02/2024 18:59

@MrsFruitie yes, I've had this with all of my pregnancies (this is my 4th) and freaked myself out each time! I've also had early positives - but interestingly every time I've been scanned I've been put forwards 5-7 days, so I think maybe I (and perhaps you) just have a cycle that doesn't fit into the textbook ! I know it's impossible not to worry but that has been normal for me each time.

I had that! Felt like that was a party going on in my tummy. It only lasted a few days and then I couldn't feel anything. I'm 5+5 today and just have awful nausea.

@Bee49 hopefully you don't get it too bad this time. I've my booking appointment with GP this week so I'm going to see about getting some anti-sickness medication to have on standby. I'm a teacher so am really nervous about working while feeling like this.

How are you feeling? 🥰

MegaManicMama · 10/02/2024 20:01

@Kittykiki I think for me over testing can bring more anxiety than reassurance. I believe POAS tests are to confirm the presence of HCG and pregnancy rather than quantify it.
If you've had bloods today, I would personally repeat in 48 to 72 hours to check if the results have doubled. In a normal pregnancy HCG should double in 48-72 hours, my EPU said anything over 63% rise in 48 hours was good - just to clarify this is how I understand it, I am not a doctor.

It is so hard to keep anxiety at bay and stay positive but doubling HCG would be reassuring for me at least.

Sunandsea13 · 10/02/2024 20:28

@Kittykiki amazing news! Yeah I would leave the testing at least for another week! Just try and enjoy it (I say that, I’m trying to take my own advice!).

katben24 · 10/02/2024 20:55

Hi everyone! Hope its Ok to join. I took a test this evening and it's positive! So so happy. This will be baby number 2...i currently have an 11 month old. If I'm adding my dates up correctly I'm currently 5+1 xx

Shootystealy · 10/02/2024 22:14

Has anybody else had weird sharp pains in their breasts? Feels so strange!

Sunandsea13 · 11/02/2024 06:15

Awake again! This time from 4:30! I fall asleep easily but keep waking up stupidly early 😔

spudnik1 · 11/02/2024 06:30

@Sunandsea13 morning !
Up at 5am here.

Unfortunately I have a full on stinking cold. Can you take lemsip when pregnant? Or decongestants in general?

Bee49 · 11/02/2024 06:39

@spudnik1 I don’t think we can have decongestants. I believe lemsip is okay but I’d make sure it was the one without caffeine!

Sunandsea13 · 11/02/2024 06:52

@Spudnik21 I would speak to a GP or Pharmacist first before taking anything

No decongestants. My go to is lemon and ginger tea with honey and nasal sprays. You can have topical stuff like lozenges too/olbas oil.

spudnik1 · 11/02/2024 07:26

Paracetamol only it looks like and hot lemon . Thanks everyone

scottishsunshine96 · 11/02/2024 08:56

This is super TMI but I figure we’re all in this together! Anyone been struggling with urinary frequency since getting pregnant? For the past week and a half I’ve basically needed a wee constantly and it’s so uncomfortable. I’ve been to the doctors as I thought it was a potential UTI but dip test came back negative. They gave me antibiotics just in case due to me being pregnant- I thought I felt a difference the first few days but my symptoms are back to the same so suggests it wasn’t an infection after all!

I’ve never had anything like this in my first pregnancy so wanted to ask if any of you have experienced this? It’s not debilitating, just very annoying and uncomfortable and I’m very much hoping it’s just a phase!

Oct24 · 11/02/2024 08:58

@scottishsunshine96 Yes (and no.) I'm peeing like a racehorse but I'm also drinking a lot more. I'm constantly thirsty.
