Remember that it's safer for them to be on the colder side rather than overheated and that they can't wear anything padded in the car seat. I think blankets that can be folded to add or remove layers is the best bet x

Sunshineclouds11 · 16/01/2024 20:14

@Kelb79 I'll let you know what she says!
I've had a cold shower but it helped for all of 10 mins, I've ended up putting sudocream on and walking round naked on the bottom half! 🙈
Figured the air is best for babies sore bums so must work for us and tbh it's giving me some relief.

CheeseAndCrackersx · 16/01/2024 20:32

Thank you ladies. I feel ok now, I just felt a bit of a failure when first saw 5,7 cos apps say about 6 pound at 36 weeks, my own fault for being absorbed in the progress apps I guess.

And I guess I do need to push him out so not all bad if he's not a chunk 😄

Bought his bedside crib, carrier and bath seat today so he's now all complete 😀
Managed to find some sheets which will fit it too just need a waterproof 1 for the travel cot which will be in the living room.

& as much as I said a few weeks ago I won't get 1, I have indeed bought a gym ball to get bouncing on 😄

Can anyone help me understand when my husband can be with me/the baby?

When I had my first daughter there were pandemic restrictions. I was on the ward waiting to be induced alone for 24 hours, he was only allowed to come when I was taken to labour room and he had to leave when dd and I transferred to ward. Then it was one pre booked 30 minute visiting slot. We got lucky even having as much as this, I know those who gave birth earlier in the pandemic had even less time with partners.

Now, with things being normal, do birth partners stay on the ward? Even though I obviously like the idea of having my own dh around more, I'm a bit freaked out by the thought of everyone on a ward having birth partners there. Isn't it super crowded? Would they also be allowed to be with you if you're waiting for induction etc?

Sunshineclouds11 · 16/01/2024 21:01

@Hankthehonk it'll differ from trust to trust.
Mine, partners there from the get go and can stay overnight with you if you want.
If they go home, they can visit 8am-8pm.

4 beds on a ward in my hosp, everyone has the curtains closed so plenty privacy and tbh not even noisy.

Hankthehonk · 16/01/2024 21:15

@Sunshineclouds11 thank you, I'll ask my midwife at my next appointment.
My first was born in Scotland’s busiest maternity unit and we were on a full 12 bed ward. We've since moved to a different area and it's a smaller hospital so hopefully there are fewer beds on the wards and it will generally feel like a calmer experience (covid aside!) I'll also ask about the wards! I'd like to know what to expect. Great to hear you didn't have issues with privacy or noise.

Shrillwaffle · 16/01/2024 21:42

@Hankthehonk i believe so! I’m getting induced though but the midwife said my husband can stay with me

anony1111 · 16/01/2024 21:44

@Hankthehonk @Callmemummynotmaaa
Thanks for the recco, i like the look of this one! is it fairly quick to put on once you get the hang of it?

Hankthehonk · 16/01/2024 21:45

@anony1111 yes very quick and easy to use the sling! You should be able to find a tutorial video on YouTube to get an idea

Mangotango39 · 16/01/2024 23:04

Ah wow our baby is massive. Now sure if it's GD or Dr said that I may just make big babies. I'm only 5ft 2 and thankfull I'm having c section at 38+3.

scan was yesterday at 35+4 and weight estimate is 6pounds13. Thinking they will be a 9pounder by arrival?!!!
Head circumference is 98th percentile but belly a lot lower at 78th which is what I think Gd usually effects.

Glad I did not buy much small baby clothes!

anony1111 · 17/01/2024 00:16

@Mangotango39 I'm a similar height to you and my first baby was 9lbs14 and vaginal birth. I was so shocked when they told me his weight! I'm on track for another big baby this time but my midwife doesn't seem bothered 🙈 however I am 🤣 with my first he was in upto 1 month clothes for about a week! So like you I haven't bought many small clothes either

anony1111 · 17/01/2024 00:17

@Hankthehonk thank you, I had a look earlier and it looks super easy! Gonna see if I can get a decent one off vinted I think

Cheetocat · 17/01/2024 00:19

@Mangotango39 Wow, that's a good size! I feel like knowing they've gotten that big naturally is very reassuring that they're getting everything they need. My little one was estimated to be 6lb2oz on Friday when I was 34+6, he gained 1kg between December and January which really eased my mind being vegan and all, sometimes I doubted myself even though I'm well versed in nutrition.

Cheetocat · 17/01/2024 00:22

Those with birthing balls, are you following a certain routine or exercise plan or just using intuition?

Shrillwaffle · 17/01/2024 00:48

@Mangotango39 sounds like a lovely healthy baby :) they given you a date for induction?
@Cheetocat I’ve had a birthing ball inflated for ages well over a year and the blimming cat popped it the other day 😅😅

I’ve had stomach aches all day today from about 6.30am starting to get pretty crampy now 😖 along with more pressure and pain in my pubic bone area when do you know the difference between braxton hicks or contractions?

Mangotango39 · 17/01/2024 01:32

@Shrillwaffle the dr did say looks all healthy which is reassuring!
I have chosen c section over induction which was provisionally booked 5 Feb , I have consultant next Thursday so unless they move it forward eek! It feels so close!!!

I am getting so crampy too, I don't know how to tell the difference of what's what!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 17/01/2024 08:25

@Mangotango39 mine was a similar-ish weight at similar gestation 😬 but big tummy also so I have to go back next week for another scan.

@Cheetocat for sure! I'm veggie not vegan, but also haven't been eating my usual healthy diet because I feel sick and tired again and craving crappy foods. However my friend had big babies and had HG and basically only ate white carbs for 9 months. I think they take it from our reserves.

I watched a video or two and now I just go with the flow!
I do circles in both directions, side lunges, and forward/backward pelvic tilts.

Who knows if it's helpful but makes me feel like I'm doing something!

Gardenfingers23 · 17/01/2024 09:09

Has anyone been diagnosed with preeclampsia?? I’ve been up half the night with an absolutely pounding headache and don’t know whether to bother the midwife with it?! My next appt is next Monday so presume it can wait until then for them to do the usual checks. Blood pressure throughout pregnancy has been on the low side but steadily rising and last week it was 118/70 so assuming I’m just being a worry wort! I’ve had rib pain on right side, mainly at back though, which I read was another symptom.

Sunshineclouds11 · 17/01/2024 09:11

I'm also feeling crampy and abit pain.
MW this morning so will update!

babythreeincoming · 17/01/2024 09:24

@Gardenfingers23 100% get checked over lovely - I had similar symptoms and although not preeclampsia, it was high blood pressure and I was induced with my second son.

I am sure it will be nothing but no harm in getting that peace of mind plus they will listen into baby, dip your urine and check bloods if necessary.

Keep us posted 🥰

babythreeincoming · 17/01/2024 09:27

@Hankthehonk I'm at the hospital the day before my community midwife appointment so might just leave her and speak to the midwife I get on Tuesday! I really don't know what to do but hoping I can get him to move 😅

How are you feeling? Looks like we are producing big boys!!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 17/01/2024 09:59

Re: hospital bags, recommend you ask the midwife what you're able to bring.

We were allowed one small bag (albeit in London) as the curtained off areas around the wards were soooooo small. So I packed the bare minimum, and some cloth washing bags, and sent dirty clothes home with my partner and he brought any extra items needed in. Extra nappies, just in case formula, etc and blankets (the ward was so hot) I kept in a bag in the car. I just bought 3 outfits for the baby, all newborn size.

I'm guessing every hospital is different, but I really had to pare back what I'd originally packed on the morning of my emergency induction as that was the 1st time they'd told me! And it was a bit stressful

MummyTo4BoysXXXX · 17/01/2024 11:52

Just thought i would share/update, went for our last growth scan on Monday when I was 36weeks exactly and little girl is on the 66th percentile for her weight & and was weighing in at 6pounds & 4ounces already 🥰 going to get round in packing our bags ready tonight! it's crazy how far we have all come and so close to meeting our little ones 💕

Shrillwaffle · 17/01/2024 12:12

I’m debating whether to cut things out now in my hospital bag I think I’ve over packed 😅😅 @MummyTo4BoysXXXX thats great news so exciting!!
