How and when did your waters break?

As I’m nearing the end of the third trimester with my second I’m wondering if/when my waters might go. So just for fun when did yours go? And was it a big flood or just a bit?

With my first I went to the toilet in the night (38 weeks) and felt a little pop and when I wiped realised a small trickle wasn’t stopping so it must be my waters! It stayed a small trickle continuously until the baby came.

My first was very like yours but at 40+3, baby came at 40+5 after 36 hours of labour.

With my second I went into labour at 41+2 and waters didn't go until I was fully dilated and pushing- was a very big flood!

Rachaelrachael · 02/01/2024 19:08

Not until I was already in established labour in hospital with both kids. I don't remember much else as was off my face on pethidine by that point 😂

Trinity69 · 02/01/2024 19:09

With my first they popped as I walked from the car to the hospital, with my second at the hospital, they insisted I had a wheelchair and they popped as soon as I sat down.

WingBingo · 02/01/2024 19:10

It’s a small % of waters that actually go like you see on TV and films.

I was hoping for a dramatic scene on both occasions but they went without fanfare in the very late stages of labour for me.

DuploTrain · 02/01/2024 19:11

In the birthing pool about 10 hours after my contractions started. Huge pressure and then a massive gush, could see it and feel it even though it was under water.

GreenMarigold · 02/01/2024 19:11

With my first they popped about 6 hours after my first contraction so I wasn’t exactly taken by surprise! I was sitting on my computer chair at the time and they went in a big gush.

With my second my waters didn’t go at all and my daughter was born en caul.

Justme10 · 02/01/2024 19:11

I was asleep in bed, actually thought I was peeing the bed until I realised I had no control over it!
It was a lot to begin with then trickled for most of that day. DS didn't come for another 72hrs by emergency section.

Filthyslattern · 02/01/2024 19:12

Not until I was pushing my babies out both times

SPsmama · 02/01/2024 19:13

My friend told me it wasn't like a big gush like you see on TV and in films. For me it was! I literally said goodnight to my husband and rolled over in bed to go to sleep and POP, they went everywhere and ruined my mattress and brand new carpet 😂 that was 11pm 38+1, DS arrived just after 1am 38+3.

Familyiness · 02/01/2024 19:13

First 3 my waters went straight away, it was my first dictation I was even in labour. My 4th didn't go until her head appeared, but it was a very quick labour.

willingtolearn · 02/01/2024 19:13

Weirdly never had waters that broke.

1st they were broken artificially for induction

2 and 3 babies were born 'in the caul'

Favouritefruits · 02/01/2024 19:14

My water went as my sons head emerged, it’s really common for waters not to break… I wish somebody had told me this as my contractions were 2mins apart and I’m trying not to push at home as my waters hadn’t gone so thought I still had lots of time 🙄 second time I had a section

BluJanuary · 02/01/2024 19:14

38+6.

I was out in public. It was a big flood🤭 like in the movies! Had no clue it was about to happen.

NoCloudsAllowed · 02/01/2024 19:15

1st membrane broke somewhere up high so every contraction would bring a delightful little leakage, then they broke the membrane near cervix and a bit more came out.

Second popped and went on the floor like someone had kicked over a bucket.

SilverSimca · 02/01/2024 19:15

They were broken by the midwife with a pointy stick both times.

PickledScrump · 02/01/2024 19:15

First hindwaters went 39+6 but no contractions so induced

Second had a little trickle when I was in hospital having contractions born 2.5 hours later partial en caul

Third they went during pushing while I was in the pool, massive pressure so I think that would have been a huge gush if I hadn’t have been in the pool. Born about a minute after

NewYear24 · 02/01/2024 19:16

40 + 5 all three times, a big gush and then my babies born were three hours later.

rebecca100 · 02/01/2024 19:16

Mine went dramatically at 39+5, was just like a scene from Eastenders on the bathroom floor like a water balloon had popped 🤣. This was at 7am, didn't have any other signs of labour or contractions until the afternoon of that day. He is my first baby.
Good luck, with the birth of your little one xx

elliejjtiny · 02/01/2024 19:16

Baby 1 while I was pushing
Baby's 2, 3 and 4 in bed
Baby 5 while I was dishing up tea.

Williamse31 · 02/01/2024 19:16

In bed at 10pm the day before my planned section.

I had a difficult first labour and my second baby was expected to be big so section was booked.

Bit of a surprise when my waters went n bed just as I was drifting off. Ended up in labour within 30 mins and section was then classed as emergency rather than landed so stuck in hospital for 3 days after rather than 1. Felt like I had a balloon between my legs just before they popped. Such a weird feeling

Devilsmommy · 02/01/2024 19:17

Wasn't due for 9 days so wasn't expecting it but at 2am I bolted awake, stood up and they just went. what makes me laugh now looking back on it was waking DH up and him saying "are you sure you haven't just wet yourself" 🤣🤣🤣

Workawayxx · 02/01/2024 19:17

1st popped (with a popping feeling) in the birthing pool soon before he arrived. Second was broken by midwife as part of an induction and everything went crazy fast from there, more pain than with my first and she was born an hour or so later (covid times so dp was waiting outside and only just made it in 😢). I decided my body doesn’t like to have waters broken (but won’t be having another to check that theory!).

fourelementary · 02/01/2024 19:17

1st time- ruptured for me after 4 hours on induction drip to try to get things along. 16 hours before baby was born.

2nd- ruptured for me instead of drip- 5 hours before baby was born

3rd- ruptured for me mid (non- induced!) labour to try to help things along- had meconium in so not allowed back into pool, around 2 hours before baby was born.

4th- actually don’t know… and neither does hubby… 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️

ttcin2022 · 02/01/2024 23:54

Mine went in the morning after I woke up. Just little bits coming out covering pads. I had meconium in my waters and had to be induced.

Yellowcakestand · 02/01/2024 23:55

33w at home. Luckily I forgot to go to asda for cat food on the way home from work...
