Thank you @Onedayatatime24 . I'm home now - 5 rods in. Intermittent cramping. Really hoping this gets things started though the MW said baby is back to back and that's part of the reason I'm not in labour yet. She thinks I just need my waters broken but we'll see.

@Mummyme87 any idea how many cm can people get to with dilapam? The internet isn't giving me a straight answer . Unless I'm in intense discomfort planning on waiting the max 24 hours before returning to hospital

sashastuck · 14/01/2024 17:32

@ndavies22 congratulations!! X

Mummyme87 · 14/01/2024 17:34

@TrudyProud some people dilate a good few centimetres but on the whole 2-3cm if it’s been put in correctly

TrudyProud · 14/01/2024 18:06

@Mummyme87 thank you. Okay I'll keep my fingers crossed and hoping my cervix will open 🤣

EL27 · 15/01/2024 08:18

Morning all, sorry haven't caught up on the thread in ages although I've been trying keep up on the WhatsApp group! Seeing everyone's babies makes me so happy but also jealous 😂
I'm 10 days overdue... the fact I thought he may come before Christmas is hilarious to me now!!

I decided to let my midwife go ahead and book induction for this Wednesday (as she suggested due to being overdue). Honestly I was hoping that I would just spontaneously go in to labour beforehand. But as time goes on the more it seems unlikely I will. I've had two sweeps which were unsuccessful as my cervix is still closed but did help me lose my mucus plug. But apart from that and mild Braxton hicks, no signs!

Is anyone else having an induction due to being overdue or an induction for other reasons? Honestly I hadn't put much thought or research in to induction as I never expected one due to being low risk. But now I am looking in to it I keep reading traumatic birth stories and I just feel stressed about the whole thing. 😬

Gremlin84 · 15/01/2024 16:43

@EL27 in theory I’ve been booked in for an induction next Wednesday (41+5) in case baby doesn’t come before then. I’m in two minds about it - I wasn’t actually asked if I wanted to be booked in, midwife just did it because that’s what the ticky box is here once you get to that stage. But I’m in good shape, low risk, not uncomfortable, baby continues to be a squiggly worm, so I see no reason why I can’t have additional monitoring instead, particularly since term is all the way up to 42 weeks. Equally I might get to end of this week/early next week and be fed up.

even if you’ve been booked in, you can still change your mind! Definitely don’t feel pressured into it if you’re not 100% comfortable with that route. Ask all the BRAIN questions (benefits, risks of not doing, alternatives, your own instinct, what happens if you do nothing) and for some details about what it involves in your trust, what the wait time has been for a bed recently for the second stage etc.

One of my friends went for an elective section because she was far too anxious about the potential wait and need for further intervention after induction.

Ttcdcno1 · 15/01/2024 18:47

@EL27 i had an elective section booked because i had only heard horror stories about induction and was terrified about the need for further interventions. My little man decided to start things off and come in the early hours of the day I was booked in though 😂

My waters had already broken so I just went straight on the drip but I was still only 1cm when it started. I started on paracetamol but was already feeling sick so avoided gas and air. I eventually asked for diamorphine as my tens machine was getting on my nerves😂 I would do the whole thing exactly the same apart from I would ask for the diamorphine much sooner! I couldn’t keep my eyes open and basically slept my way to 9cm! I felt a bit drunk but was totally in control of my body moving around changing positions which is why I wanted to avoid an epidural and so I would say I just wasn’t really ‘bothered’ by the contractions. Had gas and air then as well for the final pushing stage. Hope that’s a bit more positive than the stories you’ve heard!

IzzyMas · 15/01/2024 19:24

Sorry for all my silly ramblings in the past week or so x

EL27 · 15/01/2024 19:29

@Gremlin84 ah my midwive did ask if I wanted to be booked in, strange yours didn't ask! She explained I didn't have to have an induction but explained some of the risks of going over 42 weeks, which swayed me. It's so tricky isn't it. Honestly I said yes as I had high hopes he'd turn up beforehand but he's now only got a day or so to make his own way before I go.

I am quite fed up with pregnancy now I've got really bad pelvic girdle pain, nausea , heartburn, insomnia and also he's measuring larger so I didn't want to put it off too long. That's my main fear is going through a really long complicated labour and having it end up in emergency c section anyway, if I knew it would end up that way I'd have an elective. A Good point to ask about wait times etc I will see if I can ask, thank you I hope your little one doesn't make you wait this long!

@Ttcdcno1 oh wow they have a plan of their own don't they 😅 thanks for sharing your story it is a lot more positive. I am open to pain relief but haven't heard much about diamorphine but sounds like it worked great for you so I will keep it in mind! Same reason I'd prefer not to have an epidural it to stay mobile and move positions. How long did it take after your waters broke until your little one arrived?

Ttcdcno1 · 15/01/2024 22:28

So my waters broke at 2am Friday but no contractions - told to come back at 6am Sat. Friday 8pm contractions started but mild and far apart. Went to hospital at 3am Sat but still only 1cm. Given paracetamol but was feeling sick so threw them up, couldn’t have any more. Went on the drip at 8ish after a chat with a doctor-2cm. Managed with my tens machine until around half 9/10 ish then asked for the diamorphine. Checked again at half 12 and I was at 9cm! So went super fast then and he was born at 2.18pm sat😂

TrudyProud · 16/01/2024 06:41

Baby girl arrived 15th Jan at 41+1 days weighing 8lbs 2oz.

Didn't manage a VBAC but glad I tried. Baby is perfect

Luhou · 16/01/2024 07:00

Congrats to all!

Quite a bit of snow here this morning. Maybe it will kick things off!

More likely my DD's nursery will close and I'll have to cancel my hair appointment 🙃

sashastuck · 16/01/2024 09:26

@TrudyProud congratulations 💗💗 @Ttcdcno1 congratulations! 💙

Hope you get to your appointment @Luhou !

Mummyme87 · 16/01/2024 10:27

Congratulations @TrudyProud my birthday twin ❤️☺️ hope you’re recovering well

congratulations @Ttcdcno1

Onedayatatime24 · 16/01/2024 11:11

Congratulations @TrudyProud!

Had my bloody show last night about midnight and had I think contractions since about 1am. Were quite regular, 50 secs every 6-7 minutes until 7am this morning, seem to have fizzled out a bit now, much shorter and irregular since this morning. I'm not noticing my stomach become super tight during contractions either which makes me wonder if they're real? Definitely painful, feel like really bad period pains in lower abdomen and back, have to breathe through them. I don't think I've had Braxton Hicks so not sure or if it's false labour or the start of the real thing!

Luhou · 16/01/2024 14:57

Hope it's the start of something for you @Onedayatatime24. I have been having false starts all week, several hours of regular pains and then just fizzles out. All preperation though!

Managed to get my hair done, so ready for arrival now!

MacMummy95 · 16/01/2024 21:36

Congratulations to all those who have had their babies since I last posted!
@TrudyProud I am trying for a vbac too, I had a sweep last Thursday which helped the plug come away but then had nothing. I had a pre-op today, for an elective section on Thursday, but they have decided to postpone because I asked for another sweep. Currently 3-4cm and had bulging membranes. Fingers crossed things start happening soon!

HopeAndStrength · 17/01/2024 11:05

I'm another one booked for a sweep (next week) - I'll be 39+5

KayakingBex · 17/01/2024 23:10

Congratulations @TrudyProud and @Ttcdcno1

@Onedayatatime24 if it is labour I hope things go smoothly for you 🤞.

Onedayatatime24 · 18/01/2024 13:21

Hope everyone's doing well! Baby boy was born yesterday, he's happy and healthy. 💙

Quite an unexpected birth experience and all feels like bit of a blur now. Went in to get checked as was having contractions for about 30 hours which didn't get more than 6-7 mins closer together. So they popped my waters and things progressed quickly from there, opted for an epidural but was too late putting it in so that didn't work out, as I was getting to pushing stage, babies heart rate was dropping so they pulled the cord and about 10 people piled in, feet in stirrups, forceps, tears, the lot. I was absolutely out of it by then though and didn't feel much pain that I can remember! The pushing was so so tough and the strangest feeling I've ever felt. Lost a lot of blood and my sodium levels were low so they kept me in. Feeling much better today, still a little woozy. Glad I managed to have a vaginal birth and it was mostly unmedicated (which was what I planned but didn't want at the time 😂) but not the calming hypnobirthing birth I had envisioned. Still just happy baby is here safely. He's feeding so well so far!

A little nervous to go for my first wee now and I'll be sent home with 6 weeks of blood thinning injections which I'm very nervous about. Any tips for getting through those would be gratefully received!

Luhou · 18/01/2024 14:28

Huge congratulations @Onedayatatime24 sorry things weren't quite how you imagined but easy to forget once baby is here safely. I had a simillar experience with my first DD. We shall wait and see what this time round brings!

KayakingBex · 18/01/2024 14:39

@Onedayatatime24 oof! Sorry it didn’t go as smoothly as you would have liked but congratulations on your healthy wee boy! I hope you heal up soon!

Booklover88 · 18/01/2024 15:27

@Onedayatatime24 I had ten days of blood thinning injections and they weren’t as bad as I’d feared. My main advice would be to do them in the morning to get it out the way as I did mine at teatime and used to dread it! And do them in your tummy rather than leg-I found that less painful. Congratulations on your little boy!

HopeAndStrength · 19/01/2024 11:18

Congratulations on your new arrival @Onedayatatime24

Hope everyone is doing okay. I'm on maternity leave now and booked for a sweep next week.

Midwife thinks baby is head down but not engaged yet. I'm feeling okay but had a weird hot flash this morning which hasn't happened since the first trimester.

Just trying to balance rest (while I've got the chance) with all the jobs that need doing around the house!

RG9895 · 19/01/2024 12:26

@Onedayatatime24 this sounds so similar to my birth! My little girl arrived 2 days ago, I lost over 2.5litres of blood the same way had forceps they all ran in etc. I almost passed out and thought I was going to die so can totally relate! Im still in hospital and waiting to see if my blood transfusion worked. I have 10 days of blood thinners and agree I just get it done in the mornings! It is so traumatic and think I am one and done and my husband is terrified too. Take care of yourself and wish you a speedy recovery 💖
