Started a new thread as the last one is full.
Got my apt letter today for my scan in Jan will be the 11th should be 12w 3D.

@Oatmilk - it is tough but what else cam we do. Have no other choixe but to suffer and keep going. I reflect very very often in the ease of my last pregnancy. Naps when I wanted. Sleep in when I wanted. Just really self centered 😂 now I am lucky to put my feet up for 10mins.

I just think loooooads of women have done, are doing it. And I need to suck it up.
My Nausea is easing up a little the last couple days. So hopefully it goes soon.

@Wise0wl I've told a lot of my friends and family because they were good to me during my previous losses. Depends how you would deal with things going wrong. It's a personal thing really.

justanotherlaura · 17/12/2023 14:39

@Wise0wl I told my parents and siblings but won't tell anyone else until my 12 week scan in 4th Jan.

I told my immediate family after my early miscarriage first time round and the support was really useful, I wouldn't want to tell anyone other than them though as if hate to have to tell lots of people if anything goes wrong

Busyhedgehog · 17/12/2023 18:39

We've had quite a few losses. Most of my colleagues know about the pregnancy (I'm signed off from work and I'm very rarely sick, so this is highly unusual) and my family know as well. DS has told his class because he's incredibly excited but I'm trying to manage expectations. He knew about the previous baby and that the baby then left. We're just all keeping our fingers crossed that this one will stick.
I've got my next appointment on 2nd January, but only to have a blood test done (similar to the Harmony test) and then another on the 10th, I think. I've been given all of my appointments for the entire pregnancy last time I went. I've also managed to get a midwife to support me and I'll have an appointment with her once I'm 14 weeks.

wannabe123 · 17/12/2023 19:35

@justanotherlaura I'm similar to you. I've told a few people I'm pregnant, including immediate family. The friends I have told knew about my miscarriage and were a great support. I also find it useful to have people to talk to when I start feeling anxious - especially when I was at the same point I miscarried last time.

glasshalffull0 · 17/12/2023 20:47

I'm due 1st July and got my 12 week scan on Thursday, I'm looking forward to taking guesses of the sex from the nub theory and getting some screening tests done

I've got very long cycles and didn't ovulate until CD31 so I had a "12" week scan at 10 weeks which I feel quite lucky about- I got to see baby's little heartbeat then.

I've felt absolutely dreadful from about week 7- week 10 but I feel like I'm finally starting to feel like myself again apart from sporadic waves of nausea. I was getting worried I'd never feel like myself again?

Do you ladies think you'll do any antenatal classes? Like NCT, pg yoga, hypnobirthing etc? It's my first baby so want to be prepared but also not sure if any of it is necessary and they're expensive too!

justanotherlaura · 17/12/2023 21:10

@glasshalffull0 I did hypnobirthing last time, I really found it useful. I was pretty scared of labour and although not everything went to plan I was much more confident and ready for labour with the techniques they teach.

I'd also recommend this book, I found all the information really useful too. I'm going to read it again this pregnancy as a refresher https://www.amazon.co.uk/Modern-Midwifes-Guide-Pregnancy-Beyond/dp/B0853DTQ9V/ref=mpssa111?crid=8P66SKS9RF7A&keywords=birth+baby+and+beyond+book&qid=1702847302&sprefix=birth+baby+and+beyond+book%2Caps%2C80&sr=8-1

Cattattack · 17/12/2023 23:50

Is my hospital being really slow, or am I being too hasty? I’m 10 weeks tomorrow, was told at my booking appointment nearly 2 weeks ago that I would get a letter for my first scan for next year - but still nothing yet. They’re not giving me much notice to let my work know 🤔

Outliers · 18/12/2023 01:20

8+3.

Either I forgot how bad the morning sickness was in my first pregnancy or this one is significantly worse.

Doesn't help no one knows yet. My friends were pushing me to drink last night.

BunBun221 · 18/12/2023 05:46

@glasshalffull0 with out first we did NCT and hypnobirthing through the NHS. For us, NCT was an utter waste of money- the lady running our course was so out of date with everything (ie she thought an epidural still meant you were stuck on a bed unable to move around, and didn't really get the point of TENS machines). Noone in the class stayed in touch so it was just all a bit of a waste.

Our local hospital (Gloucester) offered an NHS hypnobirthing course led by a current midwife and it was brilliant. It was basically an antenatal course and hypnobirthing course wrapped into one for both mum and birthing partner. It was incredible, useful (they could answer questions about the unit, ward, what to expect and take with you etc) and even though we ended up with a c section the first time we still used elements of the hypnobirthing content - breathing and essential oils etc. So I fully recommend looking to see if your hospital offer something similar!

@Cattattack give the hospital a call - your letter might have got lost in the Xmas post xxx

Morningcoffeeaddict · 18/12/2023 06:24

@glasshalffull0 - I’d booked onto all the courses last time but had my son so early that we didn’t actually get to attend any of them. NCT kindly refunded me, our local hospital hypnobirthing course didn’t. I also did some pregnancy yoga which was nice but during the pandemic so over zoom which meant it wasn’t quite as relaxing as it’s intended to be (think husband strolling through and dog joining me on the mat).

I did do an NCT postnatal course, which is a lot cheaper than the antenatal and basically just matches you with a group of local mums all with babies about the same age so you can chat about how you’re getting on and any worries you have about things to come like milestones / weaning etc. 3 years later and I still meet up with mums from the group.

@BunBun221 - Gloucester is my main local hospital too!

ExpectantEs · 18/12/2023 10:33

Happy Monday!

Has anyone had any breathlessness yet? I was at a friends house yesterday having a conversation and she noticed I sounded out of breath a lot. I googled it and it's a symptom of pregnancy but I'm only 11 weeks now.

At my desk today I feel fine though

Oatmilktea · 18/12/2023 12:25

I had my booking appointment today. I didn’t get off to the best of starts as the staff member at reception was SO rude to me and didn’t properly explain where to go, another staff member had a go at me for not having downloaded the badger notes app (no one had told me to!) so I basically cried in the waiting area until the midwife came to get me for my appointment 😂😢.

It was at the hospital I have chosen to deliver in but it really left a bad taste in my mouth. I’ll see how my 12 week scan goes and if I have a similar experience I may look in to other hospitals to deliver in

Busyhedgehog · 18/12/2023 12:57

I did the Daisy Birthing course last time with DS and that was actually quite nice. https://www.nhs.uk/services/service-directory/daisy-foundation-antenatal-classes/N10885064
I did baby massage and some other courses through this as well after DS was born and had stayed in touch with the other mums. I'm still friends with them on Facebook but we moved away a few years ago.
I don't think I'll do another birth preparation class this time round but DS's swimming school offers pregnancy aqua sessions and I'll probably join those once I'm allowed back in a pool. I did those last time as well and I love swimming so it's really relaxing for me. I'll check with my midwife whether they offer anything. There's usually yoga and things like that but I'm not terribly keen on yoga.
We've got two hospitals I'd consider but it's way too early to look into that in more detail at this point. Our local one is quite close (20 minute drive) but I've been there a few times and they've always seemed a bit dismissive. It's also rather small. Then there's one of the big city ones in the area (we have several, to be fair), which is about 30 minutes drive away. They'd be better equipped to deal with any problems.
Last time, I was induced so had no choice but to go to Bristol. It was absolutely fine.

missmoosh · 18/12/2023 12:57

@Oatmilktea that sounds like a horrible experience! I hope it doesn't happen again. But yeah if they think treating you that way is OK defo find a new hospital! I have gone out of my catchment for mine, as the local hospital botched a surgery for me already with life long consequences. So don't be afraid to find one that suits you!

BunBun221 · 18/12/2023 14:30

@Morningcoffeeaddict oh hi local friend! When are you due and have you had your dating scan yet?

Annoyingly mine is at 2pm on boxing day...

wannabe123 · 18/12/2023 17:26

@Busyhedgehog I did a daisy birthing class last time and loved it too.

I felt it really helped prepare me for what was to come and what was actually happening to my body. We also did an extra workshop that my husband came too and it definitely gave him the confidence to advocate for me and also to tell me to go to hospital - I was too chilled and didn't think I was in labour... I arrived 4cm dilated and had to be rushed through for my c-section as baby was breech!

CMRC17 · 18/12/2023 18:42

Hi all , just found this new thread! I was thinking the last one had gone quiet!
I wanted to ask when everyone found out the news of their dating scan appointment?
I will be 11 weeks on Wednesday and I don’t have any news of my dating scan yet which is worrying me a bit.
i had my booking appointment on the 6th December and my midwife did mention my scan was likely to be at the start of January, due to this particular hospital being quite busy. However I would have thought I’d get at least 1 or 2 weeks notice of the appointment time? Particularly because of Christmas being around the corner.
I am going to give them a ring tomorrow just to check it’s definitely in the process of being sorted. But wondered if anyone is going through a similar thing, and also how you got informed of the appointment (was it a letter/phone call/ through badger notes)?
thank you all :)

Busyhedgehog · 18/12/2023 19:15

I think I got a letter last time, to let me know about my appointment.
This time round, I've already had scans..at 5+4, 6+2, 7+2 and 8+4. The last one was my booking appointment and the next one will be in January. Since we live abroad now, I've got all of the appointments for my pregnancy written down in my notes already. The lady at my gynaecologist did that last time. They just wrote them in by hand there and then. Most of my care will be done by my gynaecologist here, so I'll only need to go to the hospital if there's an issue.

Morningcoffeeaddict · 18/12/2023 20:07

@BunBun221 I’m only 8w+3 (due 26th July) so my midwife still hasn’t called yet. I did speak to the booking team last week though as I was worrying about it getting a bit close to Christmas and they’ve promised she’ll call tomorrow. I’ve booked a private scan for this Thursday though for some reassurance before I tell people over Christmas.

Boxing Day feels like a crazy day for an appointment- I didn’t think they’d even do them then (except for emergencies etc), although at least they aren’t making you wait I guess

Morningcoffeeaddict · 18/12/2023 20:09

@CMRC17 last time around I got a letter, but I’ve definitely heard about people this time just checking badgernotes and being surprised to see an appointment in there so could be worth keeping an eye on? Or call the hospital if no sign of anything. I chased on my booking appointment and they were very reassuring when I did

BunBun221 · 18/12/2023 20:13

@Morningcoffeeaddict so I didn't have my booking appointment until 10+2 as my midwife currently has double the caseload she should and couldn't fit me in sooner! So the request for the appointment wasn't made until then, and by the time it was made, boxing day was the only day they could fit me in before I'm 14 weeks! I phoned today to check if I could move the appointment and the next available is Jan 5th!

Morningcoffeeaddict · 18/12/2023 20:16

@BunBun221 oh what a pain! I live a bit in the middle of nowhere so last time my midwife was amazing (not overworked to my knowledge) and called within about 5 days of me self referring. This time around the waiting is killing me with everything taking so long but it makes sense if the midwives are a bit overloaded - I’d seen they’ve been advertising vacancies quite a lot

MummyBear2519 · 18/12/2023 22:02

@ExpectantEs yes I think one of my first symptoms was breathlessness. I’m still the same now even walking around the house I’m breathing really heavy like I’ve just ran a marathon
This being my 3rd pregnancy and with twins I wasn’t sure if it’s just my body in overdrive a lot earlier

CMRC17 · 18/12/2023 22:33

@Morningcoffeeaddict thanks for the reply, funnily enough I was confused as a few weeks ago I noticed an appointment in badger notes for the 8th December. By the time I’d noticed it that date had already passed. But I assumed it was a mistake as I only saw my midwife on the 6th and she didn’t mention anything about having an appointment so soon (I would have only been 9 weeks then too). Will definitely ring tomorrow and see what the deal is! I’m an impatient person so I hate the waiting around haha.

trebuvie · 18/12/2023 22:50

Surely they can't rely on just putting an appointment in badgernotes? I literally never even heard of badgernotes until this month on Mumsnet, it would never occur to me to look there?
