Thought I'd make a new thread before the old one filled up completely.

Into the second trimester and beyond 😊

Hey ladies,

Curious to know if it’s your 1st or 2nd (or more) baby? Have you given any thoughts to how you want to deliver (natural/C-section)

MrsTrue · 12/04/2024 13:14

All the comments about bump sizes make me laugh... I keep thinking the same things about myself as it's baby #2! 🫣 DH just think I've forgotten how big I was, found pictures to compare and I'm clearly not remembering things accurately! Our brains must forget so much, no excuse for being so outspoken about it though!!

I've also been having thoughts about when to have visitors. Last time we saw no one for 4-5 days and tbh I wish I'd got grandparents 'out of the way' as soon as possible before my milk came in and I was even more of an emotional wreck. I was feeling insanely vulnerable, wandering round naked most of the time (also a June baby last time!!) and barely making it downstairs, but I did feel it was more of a 'big deal' because we'd delayed it and people expected to stay for longer.

GPs still bring up now how they had to wait to see DD for "weeks"... It was 5 days.

Tempted to either do a meet and greet straight away, or 7+ days this time (since they felt it was a lifetime anyway!).

I had natural last time and would love another, but probably a planned c section this time due to complications though.

15rainbow · 12/04/2024 22:02

This is my first after a very long road of infertility and miscarriages. 30 weeks and it still doesn't feel real so struggling to get my head round birth and her actually being here. I do know that I'd like to avoid a C section if possible.
I get all the comments about bump size. I've been asked if I'm sure I'm only having 1? am I having a litter? Etc but since no one ever thought I'd be in this position I'm just embracing it all

QueSyrahSyrah · 12/04/2024 22:10

@beaniesunrise It's our first, and I'm hoping for as natural as possible. We've done a hypnobirthing course which was great so feeling informed and as prepared as we can be for whatever happens.

I was a bit taken aback at my consultant appointment last week when he casually dropped in that as I'm older (40) I could just be induced or have an elective c-section anytime from 38 weeks if I want. Not for me, but interesting to know the offer is there!

She's my first 🥰 I'm hoping for natural birth at the midwife centre but we have another scan at 32 weeks to check where the placenta is (it was low at 20 weeks) so I imagine it'll depend on that!
I'm feeling pretty zen either way. If we end up in a c section then so be it. I think the option I'd like the least is being transferred to the main hospital for a natural birth (far away, never been there so don't feel comfortable etc)

May5th · 13/04/2024 07:02

I’m 30+6 and this is my second baby. I would like a natural birth and to avoid c section. First one was induction and DS was born 42 weeks. This time I’ve been diagnosed with gestational diabetes at 28 weeks and although I was diet controlled first, have now had to start metformin for fasting readings (but still on the lowest dose at the moment). On my first growth scan baby was measuring 93 percentile but that’s very similar to my first who was 97 percentile. I think with the GD, and my age (will turn 40 next month) it’s likely they would suggest induction earlier but will be interested to hear whether it’s as early as 37-38 or 39-40. For now I’m just waiting with an open mind, I know there’s many with negative induction experiences but my first was long but positive so I wouldn’t decline an earlier induction if that was recommended (well that’s what I feel now at least).

oop · 13/04/2024 07:44

I'm hoping for "natural" again this time (my second). Although first was a bit horrible towards the end I did go into labour naturally etc. I don't mind a c section if needs be but everyone is telling me their second births were so much easier than the first so I'm keen to see if the same is true for me. I'd like the easiest recovery possible if I can (had an episiotomy last time which took a long time to feel comfortable again) and having a section obviously means recovering from surgery which I'd like to avoid if possible with a toddler at home too!

This is my surprise baby number 2 🥰 another girly 🩷
I had an induction at 37+1 last time, but was a GDiabetic and she was measuring small for her gestational age. I was on metaformin. She was 5Ibs 6oz.
I thought I'd escaped GD this time as was told results were negative (I was v surprised), but I was called yesterday at 30+1 to say my reading were just over threshold, so I have been referred now!
They said as I found out so late (27+4) they can't pinpoint exact gestation so they will likely induce at 38/39 weeks so I don't go post term!
It's all going to depend on GD, babies growth... but they have only done one official scan so it's all up in the air!
We shall see!
I'd like to avoid a c section if possible.

Suchardchoccy · 13/04/2024 11:30

First and second were natural, both bang on their due dates.
First labour ward with episiotomy and ventouse.
Second MLU water birth, natural tear.
I am hoping for a natural home birth in the pool this time. Everything is fine so far, hopefully things will stay that way. I'm 30 weeks today

Wheeeeee · 15/04/2024 09:32

This is my second. Had a vaginal birth with the first and hoping for the same again this time! I'm planning to go to the MLU within my local large hospital - I find it comforting to know the more medical options are on hand if needed, as last time things started to go a bit south and we would have needed some swift intervention if I hadn't managed to get him out quickly.

I'm 30 weeks now and suddenly feeling completely exhausted. I know my ferritin is low and I've been on iron tablets for a couple of weeks but I know they take a while to build you back up. I could sleep at my desk right now 😴

Suchardchoccy · 15/04/2024 09:57

@Wheeeee me too 😴 I can't breathe, I hate going upstairs because I have a mini heart attack at the top. I feel so slow and claustrophobic. I know I'll be begging for the pain of labour by the time I'm like 38 weeks

CamdenQueen · 15/04/2024 13:06

I’m 29+ 3 and it’s our first baby 🥰 hoping for a natural enough birth i.e. no induction, forceps etc if possible but I will 100% take that epidural if I feel I need it.

Im also feeling very out of breath when walking the dogs which is disconcerting given I’m nowhere near the finish line yet 🥴 my iron is low too so I’m hoping the supplements will start kicking in, I’ve been on them a week so far. I’m hoping to get signed off work around the 35/36 mark 😬 I feel guilty but at the same time you never get the time back again and I know the minute I walk out the door I won’t have one regret! When is everyone else aiming to finish?

Suchardchoccy · 15/04/2024 13:19

@CamdenQueen I remember feeling like this by this point in my precious 2 pregnancies, the third trimester is difficult. Hopefully it will fly by tho!

I also have low iron and I'm waiting for the iron tablets to kick in.

I'm going on mat leave at the start of June so I will be around 37 weeks.

QueSyrahSyrah · 15/04/2024 19:12

Just been for a show around and confirmed our nursery place to start next April! Eek!! Never thought competition for places would be stiff enough that we'd be paying a deposit 6 weeks before he or she even arrives Grin

Ad12345678 · 15/04/2024 20:29

Hi ladies. I had a wonderful experience today and I thought it would be nice to share. I go swimming a couple of times per week and today decided to try floating on my belly. Used a couple of floating supports between thighs and ankles. I think it was the most relaxing and comfortable experience I’ve had since getting pregnant! 5 minutes and life started to feel amazing. And it was free 😄 probably can be done in a bathtub, I don’t have one so can’t check.

I’m impressed you’re going to 37 weeks with two other little ones in the house! The 35 weeks can’t come quick enough for me and I have no other children at home 😅

waster86 · 16/04/2024 03:27

Lovely to hear how everyone is getting on! The 3rd trimester feels like a slog doesn't it. Everything is starting to hurt more and become more uncomfortable!

I have an emergency section with my first and think I have decided to have an elective section this time due to various risk factors (age, gestational diabetes etc). Still pretty worried about the section but figured if it's likely that I will need one anyway then might has well have it planned. Waiting for a date but had my first at 39+1 so think it will be at 39 weeks. I am currently 32 weeks so not long now!!

At the moment I am planning on working until the end of May when I am 38+3 but we will see...

Hope everyone is staying healthy and starting to full on nest now.

Wheeeeee · 16/04/2024 08:28

I was planning to work to 39 weeks as it was my commute that stopped me last time, and now I WFH. But I do seem to be accumulating more issues than in my previous pregnancy (low iron, mild PGP, PUPPP) so might have to rethink 😬

Suchardchoccy · 16/04/2024 09:26

@CamdenQueen well I only work part time atm and I've booked every Wednesday (office day) off from now until my mat leave starts so I'm only working Mondays and Tuesdays from home now, so it's not that bad

Hotmalibu94 · 16/04/2024 11:48

@Wheeeeee ive just sent an email to my managers asking to change my dates. I was meant to be having my last day on 1st June, 2 weeks annual leave and then starting maternity leave on the 17th June (due 18th).
I've now asked to bring it all forward, last day 11th may, then 3 weeks annual leave (already had one booked at the end of may anyway) and then starting maternity leave on 3rd June.
I have awful PGP (going to physio next week) and low iron so you sound very much like me! And I have a 45 min commute and a fairly physical job so I dunno what I was thinking back when I decided these dates 😂😂😂

15rainbow · 16/04/2024 11:57

I'll be starting my maternity leave on 3rd June at 37 weeks due 22nd. It's a bit earlier than I was planning but I work in a school and seems silly to go back after half term. I have low iron too, have been on tablets since my 8 week booking in apt but they haven't done much so I have to go into hospital for an iron transfusion tomorrow. I was surprised though as I feel pretty good. I get horrible acid reflux and back pain at night but once I'm up during the day I'm fine unless I sit down for too long. Still active and going camping on Friday! First baby and was expecting worse than this. Maybe I'm speaking too soon haha!

Suchardchoccy · 16/04/2024 12:16

@15rainbow oh yes you're the same as me! Due 22nd June 😃 yes technically my mat leave starts on 3rd June I'll be 37 weeks too!

MorningsideMaisie · 16/04/2024 12:58

This is my first baby and I’d like to have a natural birth, provided everything is going well. I have asked to give birth in labour ward, as I’d like an epidural (or at least the option!) and my hospital has lots of the birthing centre type things (pools, birthing balls etc) in most of the labour ward rooms. I’m a health care professional, so I think I’ll feel most comfortable in an environment where all the staff are readily on hand and I can get the good pain meds!

I’m due 27th June, so will officially start mat leave at 39 weeks on the 24th, but I’ll take 3 weeks of annual leave before so will finish at 36 weeks on 31st May! Probably could go longer as my job is not physically demanding and they are flexible about working from home. I just don’t think I’ll have the motivation for work at that point, and I’m looking forward to nesting and just taking it easy before our world gets turned upside down!
