@Chellooo I tried expressing in the hours after baby came and was getting no more than 0.2ml. Feeding has been fine.

As said, oxytocin plays a part. Look at expressing as practice and don't feel pressure to collect. Have a play, see what works. It's great you're giving it a go

Alloveragain3 · 27/10/2023 14:37

I had never even heard of colostrum harvesting with my DS and BF him until ages 2.5 with no issues, so I wouldn't worry if it's not going as planned at this point.

I had a midwife app today and baby is back to back :(

DS was back to back and early labour was so long and painful, which I feel is attributed to that, at least a bit.

Stretch and sweep booked in for 40 weeks.

I'm going to try and "spin" her but I'm not holding out hope. Although she is small, so maybe there's space!

My midwife said to be on hands and knees for 15 mins each day.
Does anyone have any other tips?

Crazybrowncow · 27/10/2023 14:55

Thank you for all your messages, I'm going to see how it goes. But sure my sis will be better by then anyway.

@Chellooo - I posted on the childbirth thread about colostrum last night, a few people have come back, I can't seem to copy the link!

I had no success with DC1 prior, I had a nurse try postnatal and she got very little, but I still went on to BF until 18mths.

GreenAventurine · 27/10/2023 16:08

Hiya everyone. Just an update from me. Having baby girl on Monday morning now when ill be 37+2. Feeling strangly calm. Hope it keeps up!

My main concern is that i need to get s colin the caterpillar cake for my oh as its his birthday Sunday 🤣.

whatamess100 · 27/10/2023 17:12

I've tried colostrum harvesting and failed, when I had my first child 7 yrs ago it wasn't even a thing and if it was i had no idea. I started to get alittle stressed but then thought bother it, i managed to bf for 12 months first time round.

My section is a week today, i feel totally overwhelmed tbh.

I've been told i will be in one night providing everything is ok. Is anybody taking a breast pump with them? Might take it and leave it in the car.

I was hoping my partner could stay overnight but we've been told no partners past 9pm, I also wanted to pay for a room but my hospital aren't doing that at the moment. Apparently covids rife in the hopital and saving those rooms for covid patients giving birth.

Lovely to hear babies are starting to make an appearance Flowers

Is there an app for contractions to time them ,
I've just had a tightening and made me wanna scream only sat in the bath but it was painful .

I'm only 36 weeks xx

WriMum22 · 27/10/2023 19:29

@LeeanneD11 I’ve had that a couple of times, first time a week ago and then again early hours of this morning. One very painful shout out loud tightening that lasted a min and then nothing. Then the usual mild tightenings came back, which I’ve had those for over a week too. Checked my cervix last week and it was closed so prodromal labour was the cause which is basically Braxton Hicks apparently. I’m 36 weeks too x

It literally made me wanna scream, it was so painful , never experienced anything like this before not this early on nor even Braxton hicks in my last ones xx

I’m getting so fed up, just one thing after another. I’ve now got a PUPP rash! Started on Wednesday with a red spotty rash all over my bump, not itchy. It’s now spread to my breast, legs and ankles and is so itchy! The ankles started just being a sore red rash, hadn’t even itched at that point so the soreness came from the rash itself. I’m now absolutely covered from my breasts to my feet. It’s just awful and another thing I didn’t have wit my first two pregnancies so my list now is, Hyperemesis, antibodies in blood, Polyhydramnios, Strep B and a PUPP rash!!!

2 weeks and counting but preying she comes next weekend like her brother did (he came 37 and 5) !!! 😩

Thack · 27/10/2023 21:50

@WriMum22 that is rough! Can anything be done to help ease it?

@LeeanneD11 have you had any more? I had a random contraction (super intense pain) at around 33 weeks. MW wasn't worried for a one off, said it's only if they become regular. Are you all packed just in case? 36 weeks isn't bad going, if it does happen.

Glad you have dates @GreenAventurine and @whatamess100
I'd not bother with a pump. Your milk won't be in til day 3, it'd not be worthwhile before that.

LeeanneD11 · 27/10/2023 21:53

@Thack , I have had a few on and off but nothing since I posted they have now settled down , my bags have been packed since 28 weeks ,my daughter was born at 36+4.

I have now downloaded a contraction timer app , so going to keep an eye on them now , hoping he stay in till my section date xx

Spareincoming · 27/10/2023 23:14

@whatamess100 I’d not bother with a pump in hospital; it’s unlikely your milk will come in properly in the “uncomplicated delivery, enhanced discharge” 24 hour
period post section.

WriMum22 · 28/10/2023 03:44

@Thack I’ve had three midwives and a doctor look at it and also spoke to a fourth midwife over the phone and none of them have hardly said a thing other than it’s PUPP. They don’t even seem to really know anything other than that. I’ve said it’s spreading and becoming really bothersome for me and they’ve just said oh no, not sure what you can do.

I’ve had to google and look on here and last night ordered some oat based washes and creams from amazon, so see if they help. I’m so fed up.

spanglesj · 28/10/2023 05:45

@LeeanneD11 I found the Freya app is great for timing. Mine started at 36 weeks too and I’m 38 weeks today, so can be a while - but last time mine started 24 hrs before established labour so you never know ! X

Oo I'll have a look at the one and download it too , we are are so close now it's crazy xx

GreenAventurine · 28/10/2023 08:10

I’m off into town today to get some last bits for my C-section on Monday.
Post C-section ladies - what do you suggest I get that I might have forgotten. Any particular laxatives that are best?

Trying to be prepared this time so I make it easier on myself.

JD90 · 28/10/2023 11:41

Well after DP being ill for the last couple of weeks (and me avoiding him to the point of sleeping downstairs on the sofa bed most of the time) it appears the dreaded lurgy has in fact caught up with me... I feel absolutely terrible. Heavy chest, cough, congested, and of course thanks to baby being super low I've managed to pee myself when I've had coughing fits a couple of times 😪 oh the glamour of pregnancy. I did a covid test as I have them for work but it is so far negative, hopefully it stays that way.

whatamess100 · 28/10/2023 12:15

So I've just been to the toilet, wiped, and i have thick, dark brown gunge, sorry i know it's grose. Is that normal? I remember last time when i lost the plug it was more clear yellow with a tinge of pink but this isn't like that at all. Any ideas?

I would ring triage and see what they say , it could be start of labour nearing xx

PinkPlantCase · 28/10/2023 13:12

@whatamess100 as it’s gungy I’d assume mucus plug, it gets called bloody show too so I wouldn’t worry too much about the colour. I’d be worried if it was fresh runny blood.

bits of mucus plug can come out and it can replenish itself for a few weeks before labour starts so it doesn’t always mean it’s imminent. I guess just keep an eye out for anymore Labour symptoms!

LeeanneD11 · 28/10/2023 14:08
