@Travellingislife if we were pouring the milk into a bottle or freezer bag I’d wash the Hakka straightaway and not sterilise it but if it hung around for a bit and the milk dried on I think we used to give it a boil after washing. Not sure that helps đŸ˜‚

I know that some places say that you don’t need to sterile breast pumps at all.

BabyBabyBaby123 · 04/12/2023 07:42

@Travellingislife don’t make the mistake my husband did and put the hakka in the cold water steriliser, it made the silicon all sticky and was unusable and caused me to have a hormonal meltdown!
I put mine in the dishwasher at night and wash it in hot soapy water in between uses, but I don’t use it that often, I am scared of causing oversupply.

Oldermum84 · 04/12/2023 09:24

I've just ordered a haakaa and read to just sterilise it before first use but then you don't need to... Think because it's only used with breast milk it's ok as sterilising is more about the bacteria in formula...?

How are you guys getting on with the haakaa? My boobs don't seem to leak so don't know if it will work??

AngeloMysterioso · 04/12/2023 10:16

I’ve got a naturebond pump which is basically the same thing as the haakaa… I wash and sterilise it every night and put it in the fridge with the stopper in between feeds.

GreenAventurinee · 04/12/2023 13:58

Off to buy a snot sucker too! How does it work? Baby girls mucus seems really high up, she doesn’t seem to have a runny nose. Does the tube go far up babies nose?

DollyGx · 04/12/2023 17:10

@GreenAventurinee i wonder if it’s just mucus in my little one’s nose too as hers isn’t running either. I bought the fridababy one from boots. Doesn’t go up the nose no, just at the opening of the nostril and you basically just manually suck it out. There’s a filter to stop you getting any bogies in your mouth! Buy some saline nose drops/spray to use too, I bought the calpol drops also in boots, it just helps loosen anything before sucking it out.

JoyApple · 04/12/2023 17:10

@Katiec1 we also formula feeding and baby constipated (well struggling to poo and crying but poo is not hard). Three things have helped us: giving around 1oz of cooled boiled water during the day, giving slightly warmer feeds and giving coliccalm (or tummy calm). With my little one, a warm feed helps move things. Do let me know if anything else helps please :)

@foodislife1 I was so worried re baby acne but it cleared itself after a week thankfully. We didn't do anything

JoyApple · 04/12/2023 17:13

Which specific snot sucker are you folks buying?

I got the NUK one but it doesn't work

JD90 · 04/12/2023 17:29

We got a this, haven't used it yet but bub doesn't get snuffly until evening time.

JD90 · 04/12/2023 17:30

Question for the other breastfeeding mums out there, did you get told before you left hospital that you needed to give baby vitamin d? It wasn't mentioned to me at any of my midwife apt etc and wasn't until the HV came today that she told me. I've ordered them now so it's not an issue. But I just wondered if others had been told in hospital or not.

Spareincoming · 04/12/2023 18:16

The Frida baby nosefrida is the best nasal aspirator on the market.
I have done extensive, practical, real world research!
Our ENT specialist recommended the Sterimar breathe baby spray, I agree that it gets further in than drops and is certainly effective!

BabyBabyBaby123 · 04/12/2023 19:27

@JD90 It wasn’t mentioned to me either, but I remembered giving them to DD2, so asked the midwife who said that DS does need them.

I highly recommend D Drops, as 1 drop onto your nipple is much easier than some of the other vitamins that need 0.5ml in a syringe.

You have just reminded me that I haven’t given them to DS yet today!

Katiec1 · 04/12/2023 19:43

@JoyApple thanks for that! I brought her to a pharmacy today to get some advice and they recommended infacol. We gave it to her with her feed and she managed to go straight away, I don’t know whether it was just a coincidence or not though.
I’ll definitely try the warmer bottles to see if that helps too.

spanglesj · 04/12/2023 21:14

@FlyingHighFlyingLow hope your labour starts soon & that you have an easy route to hospital with this weather. Just to say I had 3 sweeps and I found them less uncomfortable, like easier each time. By the 3rd I barely noticed it. They all caused contractions for me which served to help my cervix get ready. I needed induction though. Not long for you now.

Thanks for the D drops reminder folks, haven’t done mine today.

My Dd is 5 wks now. Anyone else losing the plot because of sleep deprivation?!! Xx

foodislife1 · 04/12/2023 21:46

Anyone else struggling to get their newborn to sleep ConfusedI've tried everything and she's wide awake!

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 04/12/2023 21:51

Thanks @spanglesj

Another sweep tomorrow as last ditch attempt before induction. No contractions at all, not even after first sweep (did lose mucus plug though the next day). Did have a scan and baby still growing, good fluid and blood flow so hopefully placenta still doing well.

I just want him out safely in my arms now!

Anyone else struggling to get their newborn to sleep ConfusedI've tried everything and she's wide awake!

Managed to get baby to sleep after lots of sshing and rocking. Think I missed her wake window so as maybe overtired. But she's slept a lot last night and Hardly feeding. I've tried to offer breast every 3/4 hours, but she's refused and sound asleep l.

So I'm starting to worry now...is this normal? To see such a drastic change in night time feeds at 4 weeks?

JoyApple · 05/12/2023 09:42

@foodislife1 personally I wouldn't awaken a sleeping baby for a feed, count yourself lucky and rest đŸ™‚. My LO is 5 weeks and slept from 2 till 7 last night. but this was after 2 hours of being unsettled and DH needing to walk with her to put her to sleep (which is a first for us). I think she was just tired after all the fuss hence the length of sleep but fuss was due to struggling to poo I think

PinkPlantCase · 05/12/2023 10:34

@foodislife1 have you got the wonder weeks app? It shows you when baby is likely to be going through a developmental leap. I used it with my first and it was nice to think there was a reason behind increased fussiness.

Unless baby is ill I wouldn’t wake them for feeds once they’re back at birth weight. Unless there are other concerns about weight gain.

foodislife1 · 05/12/2023 10:50

@JoyApple @PinkPlantCase
Ok good to know. I'll leave her to sleep if it happens again

Katiec1 · 06/12/2023 08:04

Morning ladies, hope everyone is keeping well.
I just have a quick question for the c-section mommas….
has anyone had lumps under or around their scar. My left side is absolutely perfect and has heeled really well, but my god the pain on my right side is unreal (12days post op) I’ve also got a lump under the scar and skin around it. I never experienced this on my last section so was wondering is it something to worry about?
As always thanks in advance x

Nov2023 · 06/12/2023 08:15

@Katiec1 I have this too. I am a few days behind you but the right edge of my scar has a lump that is a bit tender. We are still in hospital so they have checked the scar most days and are happy with it and think it looks fine.

LilmissCa · 06/12/2023 11:05

@FlyingHighFlyingLow hope all is going well & the sweep started movements yday!

@PinkPlantCase thanks for the wonder weeks app reminder, used this for my last as well, so handy! Surprised tho this babies first leap isn't till he is almost 6 weeks.. and right over Christmas .. how lovely lol

PinkPlantCase · 06/12/2023 11:40
