Yeah any appointments like those @MumDaisy1980 although they say there’s no obligation to buy, you will find you have a very unpleasant experience if you don’t, and if that’s going to be your first shopping experience for baby it could well spoil it! Just something to think about before you go if your plan isn’t to buy while there. Especially the mamas and papas ones they sort of do everything bit by bit and sort of have you commit to buying one thing before they move on to discuss/show you the next. If you just want to go have a look then I’d say cancel both appointments, just go yourself and have a look in your own time and ask the store staff for any questions! X

I’m also in the sore hips at night club! The best thing I’ve found though is being in the middle of a big U shaped pregnancy pillow that takes up half the bed, lying on my side but leaning back slightly. Took me ages to realise but just leaning back a bit onto the pillow takes the pressure off my hip a bit and I don’t wake up as much. Thought I’d share in case it helps anyone else x

BVIre · 18/01/2024 21:07

Thank you so much everyone for the clothing tips! So helpful! Yes me and my husband are in our 20s too and it’s first grand child on both sides so I don’t expect a lot of hand me downs! Someone’s from my husbands work said they had some clothes they were getting rid of in the newborn/0-3 months size so I’ll see what we get with them and go from there.

yes I’ve had planned on fully avoiding the ‘newborn’ size as some brands I looked at it said that was around the 7lb5 mark so I’ve looked at the ‘up to a month’ instead which seems closer to the 10lb mark!

maybe being silly & I know you can’t predict baby size but I was a 9lb10 baby and my husband was 10lb so I’ve assumed that this baby will be big too lol so avoiding all the tiny clothes that probably won’t even fit him day one if that’s the case lol

Hey ladies, random one. My midwife told me to take 2 iron tablets a day, one in the morning and one at night. That's what I've been doing, but I just checked the sticker on the packet the chemist gave me and it says one a day... I don't have a direct number for my midwife. What would you do?

MumDaisy1980 · 19/01/2024 07:48

@Ttcmumma i would book an appointment with GP - get a second opinion. In the mean time follow the packet take one per day. And eat food rich in iron (not excessive). Then can check back with midwife when next time see her. Or ask retest your iron level.

Butterfliesandroses · 19/01/2024 08:37

@Ttcmumma I would do exactly as @MumDaisy1980 has said x

Ttcmumma · 19/01/2024 08:56

Thanks ladies! As it's not my first child I barely see the midwife lol, I don't go back until 34 weeks so 4/5 weeks away and I redo bloods a week prior so she can check the levels then. Will try get hold of my GP and stick to the one with iron rich foods until then. It wasn't drastically low anyway, 109 but it had dropped hence her wanting to put me on the iron supplements now

Hopefulfirstround · 19/01/2024 09:26

@Ttcmumma theres actually brilliant evidence to suggest that taking iron supplementation every second day is far more effective than every day.

SummerOak · 19/01/2024 09:59

@MumDaisy1980 we also did Mamas & Papas Full Works appointment. It was great, didn't feel pressured to buy anything, and we didn't as we also had another appointment booked in John Lewis so wanted to see what was on offer there. We got lots of info on both appointments so I would say they are worth going to, but it would be good to let them know at the start that you're basically just wanting to see what's out there and you will not be making immediate purchases. Guess it alk depends on the shop and person you get.

@Amf2508 that does look like something to keep an eye out and glad that you are. Kind of sucks that you can only get in contact with your midwife on Wednesdays. Maybe ask her if she can give you a contact number from someone else that can help you with any questions while she's off?

MumDaisy1980 · 19/01/2024 10:47

@SummerOak thanks!

ZB86 · 19/01/2024 14:09

@Ttcmumma you might get a quicker answer if you speak to the chemist. They can call your GP surgery to clarify anything they need to.

Ttcmumma · 19/01/2024 15:14

@ZB86 I tried that this morning but their opening hours are awful 🤦🏼‍♀️. Doctor just replied and said twice a day is fine and maybe cut down to once a day after 2 weeks. Wil go with that until my next lot of bloods

ZB86 · 19/01/2024 15:33

@Ttcmumma ah that's annoying but at least you managed to speak to GP. Hope your levels have improved when they next review and hope you're not suffering too much with the symptoms.

Ttcmumma · 19/01/2024 15:35

@ZB86 thank you! Just really tired and need lots of naps but that may also just be the fact I have a son, work full time and barely sit down 🤣. Hoping it helps tho🤞🏻

Ttcmumma · 20/01/2024 21:01

Has anyone else started nesting yet? I tell myself I'm going to have a chill day then completely rearrange my bedroom to accommodate for baby girls crib and extras. I'm only 28+5 but I can't help it! Next is rearranging the entire kitchen to make her atleast one cupboard space. I've already done the cupboard under the stairs and at the top of the stairs. My house has never been so organised 😳. With my first I wasn't like this but I lived with my parents still so maybe feel a little more responsible for the entire house this time 😬. Partner is just being dragged along asked to carry and move big things 🤣

Mrsttcno1 · 21/01/2024 12:30

I wish @Ttcmumma that sounds amazing! I desperately need to start organising our kitchen cupboard because we currently have no space for any of her things but I am forever putting it off😂 I’m hoping by the time we get her nursery furniture delivered and put up next weekend I will feel more prompted to get a wiggle on and get organised! X

MumDaisy1980 · 21/01/2024 20:31

Ha. No way close to nursery arrangement.

and just a little update about the mamas & papas appointment experience.

overall very positive. It might be the salesperson is like a little girl - a trainee. And I did say very beginning I m browsing today. So apart from introducing the items and at the end she’s like reading off the script like offer us payment options to try close the deals. which we obviously still exploring the baby products. At the end we just obtained a list of names of the products we tried out. also pleased the appointment only lasted an hour, rather one and half. It’s pretty tiring just trying out the carrier even though no baby in it!

Hopefulfirstround · 23/01/2024 08:27

30+3 now and I am getting so caught for breath when sitting or lying down , anyone else having this problem , I haven’t been able to sleep a wink !

Cora24601 · 23/01/2024 12:19

@Hopefulfirstround I'm 30 weeks tomorrow and by the end of the day I can't sit comfortably and I'm so so breathless! Guess things are getting quite squished in there now! Sleep im not too bad with have you got a pregnancy pillow? That might help a little.

SummerOak · 23/01/2024 14:07

Can anyone recommend a labour ball or exercise ball? Not sure what's the difference.

We went for a 4D scan and it was lovely, but we could only see his side profile so we rebooked another for in 2 weeks, free of charge. I'm not sure we'll see any better but at least we'll get to see him again and do some measurements.

I only get out of breath when walking uphill, but I'm not 30+ weeks yet so that could change soon.

BVIre · 23/01/2024 14:27

When is everyone starting maternity leave? This is my first baby and I’ve given my work 10 days before my due date as my last day but I’ve had a few comments on it and just wondering if this is too close?

I’m sure people are well meaning but I like my job, it’s a desk job and I’ve been so lucky so far with not feeling much discomfort or tiredness (currently 29+3). Im sleeping well & have done the whole pregnancy so far, I’m also very lucky that I can work from home two days a week which my manager says I can increase more in the last few weeks before I go off.

Most of my friends have taken 4 weeks+ off prior to their due dates but it doesn’t really feel like the right call for me but starting to wonder if I should move my last day in work forward a bit? Any advice appreciated!

chlo299 · 23/01/2024 14:32

@BVIre I'm in the exact same situation! Just 28w I'm working from home two days a week as well doing desk job. From this week I am doing three days at home instead so that's a bonus but I'm leaving my last day to be Friday 12th and I'm due on Wednesday 17th 🫣😂 might be a bit brave but I just want to have as much time left with the baby as I can so literally leaving it till the last minute but depends how I feel later on you know things might change and I might have to bring it forward but so far I'm aiming for this 🤷🏼‍♀️

Mrsttcno1 · 23/01/2024 14:33

I have a very similar job @BVIre and I’m planning on working right up until my due date (or earlier if she comes early of course)! I have an office job, work from home half the week and my manager is also happy for me to work from home full time towards the end if needed. I just think realistically if I started my maternity leave early I’d just be sat at home anyway, so I figure I may as well be sat working and have all of my leave once she’s born! Plus my husband wouldn’t have any time off before the birth and family/friends all work so it’s not as if I’d really have any company during that time so I think if I’m home alone anyway I may as well crack on x

BVIre · 23/01/2024 14:47

That’s so reassuring @chlo299 & @Mrsttcno1! I really feel like I’d be bored out of my tree if I went of super early as all my friends/family work full time and my husband won’t be off until I’m in labour!

I’ve had a few prickly comments from people telling me I should take longer & prepare myself but I think I’d end up driving myself insane!

Also my mum was induced at 40+10 with both me and my brother so I have in my head I’ll be going over anyway lol don’t know if it will work out like that but we’ll see😂

Mrsttcno1 · 23/01/2024 14:51

I’ve had a few comments as well @BVIre about needing “time to prepare” but I think it just depends what order you do things in! Like we have our nursery furniture being delivered this weekend so realistically over the next 2/3 weekends we’ll be getting all of that put up and her things organised. We also have a few days off at the start of March which we are going to use to get the house ready, get moses basket etc set up (mainly so our dog gets used to the new items being around the house)! So we will be “prepared” really by mid-march. The only thing I’d be doing in those last few weeks is relaxing and cleaning the house and I can easily do that around working from home, I would defo feel different if I had a job that required being on my feet or travel, but as it is I don’t feel any need!
