@Ttcmumma 🤗lovely pic!

@SummerOak yes, I have trouble sleep similar to a couple of others that fell asleep but hard to stay asleep. Would wide awake 2am till 4am-5am, then dose off. I sometimes found making a glass of warm milk help.

Besides just a little follow-up from the glucose test post I made the other day, I had the glucose test yesterday. I brought iPad and laptop and planned out a productive two hour wait. Guess what, the hospital HAS NO SIGNAL 😓for both wifi and the phone. I can't even do watsapp with friends or call someone to kill time. I didn't bring a book (a mistake!). I managed to kill time by deleting unwanted photos on my phone for an hour and just bored for another hour. Grrhh..😅

SummerOak · 15/01/2024 17:21

@Ttcmumma Great photo! Nice that your 5 year old could see the baby while still in the belly, must have been an experience.

@MumDaisy1980 literally yesterday I was talking to DH how I don't like warm milk, but I'm ready to try anything at this point.

Ttcmumma · 15/01/2024 18:10

@SummerOak if you don't like warm milk, what about a hot chocolate? The ones made with milk and a touch of chocolate powder

SummerOak · 15/01/2024 18:57

@Ttcmumma I do like hot cocoa, that's a great way around it :)

1994jk · 15/01/2024 20:00

@Ttcmumma how cute!! I have mine in a couple of weeks cant wait

Hi @SummerOak that sounds like a nightmare! I’m not having issues falling asleep but I do have issues staying asleep, I never ever manage a full nights uninterrupted sleep anymore! I fall asleep quickly but am waking up between 5-6 times in the night for the toilet, a drink, or just being a bit uncomfy! Have your evening habits changed, or your activity levels maybe?

Same here! I fall asleep really easily, but I wake up all the time... A pain here, an ache there, needing the toilet, just generally being uncomfortable.
I wake up a gazillion times and I am TIRED!

Today I had my whooping cough vaccine, so my arm hurts... So I expect I will be even MORE uncomfortable!

Amf2508 · 17/01/2024 18:33

Had my 28 week appointment today, baby measuring off the charts for fundal height 31cm 🙄 but he is up high so my midwife is hanging fire on growth scans. Also have high blood pressure 142/90 and had protein in urine (I'm guessing only a trace though) as have only been told to be aware of headaches/dizziness etc. I have god awful heartburn and have now read it can also be a sign of pre eclampsia so now freaking out that I'm heading in that direction 😩😩😩

SummerOak · 17/01/2024 21:07

@Amf2508 sorry your 28th week appointment didn't go so well. Will they do any more tests to see if it it's something to be concerned about?

MumDaisy1980 · 17/01/2024 22:27

@Amf2508 sorry to hear that

I also had my 28 week appointment yesterday, midwife said from now on no longer expect any measurement. Because it’s not accurate. 🤔

@SummerOak has your sleep improved?

Amf2508 · 18/01/2024 06:40

@SummerOak well me and my partner are supposed to be going to Rome for a short weekend in 2 weeks time. She had cleared all this previously and is still on the lines of me going. However because I was so anxious about the blood pressure she's seeing me again Wednesday to have a check before, so keeping my fingers crossed! And hoping no headaches etc appear in the meantime 🙄
As for the size of baby, she said if he's still off the charts at my 30 week appointment she will probably arrange a growth scan to be safe. I have a scan booked to see if my placenta is no longer low lying the following day, so hoping it can be done at the same time if it's needed 🙈

SummerOak · 18/01/2024 11:03

@MumDaisy1980 it actually has, last two nights I slept great. One night I drank hot cocoa, and yesterday I had chamomile tea right before bed. So I guess just having a warm drink works wonders.

@Amf2508 Glad you're seeing her again before the trip. Blood pressures change. Last time I had 117/85 and today it's 104/60. A friend of mine also had a preeclampsia scare and she had to measure her bp daily and it actually turned out fine. Fingers crossed you can go enjoy your holiday without worrying.

HelsM2023 · 18/01/2024 11:23

Hi everyone,

I'm another terrible sleeper! I actually don't have problems getting to sleep, but my hips/lower back really hurt after a while, so I only get about 4 hours sleep a night, sometimes 5 if I manage to find a really good position. I've got a huge maternity pillow to support back, bump, goes between the knees etc. I now even resorted to placing the sofa cushions underneath my hips, which has helped a bit, now means I have 4 full hours of sleep in one go, rather than the 2 hours previously!

But at 25 weeks, still a very long way to go. Anyone else had hip pain in the night and managed to find a good solution?

Mrsttcno1 · 18/01/2024 11:45

@HelsM2023 so sorry that you’re also a member of the no sleep club, seems like most of us are now! I struggled massively with hip and back pain and the only thing that helps me is having a warm bath just before bed, my husband sort of massages my hips and back using a technique the midwife mentioned & then sleeping with 2 thick pillows between my knees! Even then they are sore again by 4/5am so if I wake up at that time I have no chance of getting back to sleep! X

Ah I might try a warm bath, and more pillows between my knees and see if that helps, thanks!

Amf2508 · 18/01/2024 14:29

@SummerOak I suppose I'm just going off all my previous ones, just always end up leaving appointments not really feeling like I know exactly what's happening with me 🤣 and always think of questions I want to ask afterwards. My midwife only works Wednesdays as well so I can't even pop her a message as I won't get a reply till my next appointment anyway 🙄

My blood pressure has gone like this, just feels like a big jump 🙈

8+5 115/70
17+5 122/78
25+5 128/80
28+4 143/86
28+5 142/90

BVIre · 18/01/2024 15:22

First time mum here! And honestly I know it’s silly but still waiting for it all to feel real! I had my 28 week appointment on Wednesday & feel like time is moving so quick!

I am starting to look at stuff to buy, I’m trying to be really cautious about over buying and avoiding not buying anything that isn’t essential. All my friends have told me not to go crazy on clothes so I planned on not buying any because apparently you get given so many lol but I did have the realisation today that we’re going to need to at least get our baby boy home from the hospital in some clothes haha

Just wondering if anyone had any advice on how many baby grows to buy for the first few weeks or even how many to pack in your hospital bag? Same goes for vests!

so cautious of clothes as well because April can be such a temperamental month in terms of weather where I live- last year it was snowing at the start of April but at the end it was 20°C and sunny! I’m due on the 7th!

any help appreciated xo

Pinkstuffs · 18/01/2024 16:15

Well people keep telling me I’ll get given loads of clothes but so far what I’ve been given has been quite impractical (outfits etc). I’ve bought about 8 vests and Sleepsuits in newborn and 0-3, a few outfits in 0-3 but have a list of other bits to get. I’ve bought quite a bit on vinted in bundles which I’m hoping has saved a fortune.

MumDaisy1980 · 18/01/2024 17:17

First time mum here too, I am preparing for the hospital bag and things baby needs in the first few months.

I am following the hospital bag from NHS checklist. I have no clue what are the difference among bodysuit, vest, sleep suit & outfit to go home. when I google most of the vest aren't vests, they are either short-sleeved or long-sleeved! I feel like the baby would be wearing too much?! But I guess in hospital the midwife would help get baby clothed?

Besides, I booked a 1.5hr appointment with mamas & papas this Sunday to get an introduction of all baby items. I wonder if anyone have done these kind of appointment before? any good? this would be our very first baby shopping trip.

I also had a look at M&S for baby multi-pack basic vests, it comes with so many sizes! Newborn, Tiny, Early - they are like 1lbs difference . I wonder how you decide which size as the baby not born yet. Does it matter to get Newborn and let the Tiny size baby grow into it?! I would have thought all babies are Newborn size haaaa

Mrsttcno1 · 18/01/2024 17:20

I would be wary of waiting/relying on people giving you loads of clothes @BVIre ! My friend did this as she had been told the same and actually the clothes she did get given barely even got used as they were mostly newborn (and her son was born 8lb3 so he literally fit into it for less than a week, some of it he never fit into at all!) or they were cute little outfits which weren’t practical for a baby. People typically don’t buy you the practical bits, they will choose the lovely little outfits because they want to buy something special but then can mean it just doesn’t get used! It meant she was stressing and shopping in the days after giving birth because they needed more clothed and she hated that and wishes she had prepared better.

I think how much you get given also depends on what stage of life you/your friends/family are at. I have one friend who barely had to buy anything for her baby because she was given absolutely loads of hand me down’s from family & her friends, even down to bottles, nursery furniture and bin bags full of bibs/sleepsuits etc as she had a lot of friends/family who had their last baby in recent years and weren’t planning any more. Whereas us for example we’re in our 20’s, my youngest cousin is 9 (and my aunty gave all of his baby bits to her sister years ago) so we have no family with bits to hand down, and we have quite a few friends who’ve had babies in the last couple of years however they all want more children so aren’t passing anything on yet as they will use it for their next baby!

We have bought a handful of “newborn” bits (sleepsuits, bodysuits, cardigans etc) and then bought mostly 0-3! X

Mrsttcno1 · 18/01/2024 17:26

We also did the mamas and papas “shop for baby” booking thing @MumDaisy1980, we found it useful but the expectation is definitely that you are going to spend a lot of money there at the time, which was fine for us because we sort of knew/planned that we were going to use that appointment to get our pram set and furniture ordered, but I probably wouldn’t recommend their appointments if you’re planning on just getting info and then going away and looking online etc. My friend went to hers with the intention of just getting some info and seeing what there was but not necessarily buying much and she did say it was very awkward, they do a bit of a hard sell and they made her feel very uncomfortable for wanting to go away and think about purchases, they had essentially said she had wasted their time coming to the appointment if she was only going to buy a few bits. So just something to think about!

Pinkstuffs · 18/01/2024 17:34

I agree with @Mrsttcno1 we just did this because we wanted a pram/travel system and at mamas and papas you can obviously try the different brands. We did order a pram because we wanted to and were already 80% decision made but I would say they really expected us to. It does seem a bit of a minefield trying to work out what’s actually needed vs nice to have but I just keep reassuring myself that Amazon prime exists! And picking things up second hand means I’m less likely to be upset if we don’t end up using them, I figure I can sell things on again anyway.

I am 26 weeks and have also been having hip pain at night - really similar to you I get some sleep but eventually it becomes too uncomfortable in the early morning.

If I wake up and can't get comfy I sometimes prop myself up with lots of pillows so that I'm sort of lying on my back, but elevated so not a risk. That gives me some relief and I can doze for a bit longer in this position - usually after a while like this I can go back to being on my side.

Hope you can find something that works for you!

Hopefulfirstround · 18/01/2024 19:07

30 weeks on Saturday and also have just joined the no sleep club . I just really want to sleep on my back and can’t get comfy on my side ! Has anyone hit a wall energy wise this week . I am so so so tired . I have been going to the gym and cycling etc but the I’d week I’m barely getting my steps in !

MumDaisy1980 · 18/01/2024 19:11

@Mrsttcno1 @Pinkstuffs thank you so much! I might consider shorter appointment option instead. I fell the appointment is too long and if situation likely will be awkward.

i have also make the 1.5hr appointment at John Lewis , sometimes in Feb . In its website, I got the impression it assured no commitment to buy. 🙄
