Sorry to hear about your loss @FirstTim3Mummy - that’s really upsetting

Sophie721 · 26/10/2023 19:29

Can I ask what week of pregnancy you were at when you had your Covid jabs, please? Debating the best time to get it.

@Nina7 I don’t think the NHS considers you “geriatric” until you’re 40 now? I imagine there wouldn’t be enough obstetricians to keep up with the number of people having babies in their late 30s now!

I had obstetrician care in my last pregnancy and I can’t even remember why. They were a bit worried about growth for some reason but my son ended up over 4kg! I enjoyed it though as it meant I got extra scans

I am 40, first time mum and currently 10+3.

Yes, over 40 is geriatric. From what I've gathered so far, it basically means I will have additional scans at 32 and 38 weeks for growth checks. I also have to take aspirin for pre eclampsia prevention (2 risk factors - first time, over 40). It also means I'm less likely to be allowed to give birth in midwife-led unit.

I had both COVID and flu vaccine at 6+4.
I'd say the earlier the better, as you never know when you'll get the actual bug...

I'm having a bit of a cold at the moment, and it scares me a bit... My belly hurts, exactly where the baby should be, not an acute pain but like it's attached to a string and someone is pulling it.
Every time I cough or sneeze and tense my muscles it's painful and worrying at the same time...

Having had the vaccines eases my mind a bit, I've got less chances of getting too ill, which can affect the baby.

For people that have had the flu vaccine, what did you take as proof of your pregnancy?

Sa11yCinnamon · 27/10/2023 09:19

@PeppedUp I'm eligible for another reason, I didn't even tell them I'm pregnant. Had no idea you have to prove pregnancy!

TheBirdintheCave · 27/10/2023 09:55

@PeppedUp Oh I figured the midwife organised that for us. Do we have to book it ourselves? I guess any pregnancy notes you have would be enough proof :)

junebuglb · 27/10/2023 10:37

@PeppedUp at my booking appointment I was told I’d be sent a document to prove exemption. It came in the post the other day, I think it can be emailed instead though. Not used it yet but will bring for vaccinations, dental etc

GratefulMum10 · 27/10/2023 12:00

@PeppedUp just had my flu vaccine. Didn't need proof of pregnancy. I just told them I was 10 weeks pregnant.

PeppedUp · 27/10/2023 13:41

Thanks everyone. Maybe it depends where you get it done. I went to Boots because it was way easier to book than my GP and they say you need proof. I will just take my notes from the booking appointment and hope that works!

@TheBirdintheCave yes, we have to book all our vaccines at ours. I so wish they could just do it at one of your antenatal appointments so it was one less thing to think about!

Hi everyone! My baby is due on 25th May which is my mums birthday so we’re all quite excited about that!

This is our first baby, I’m 35 but will be 36 when baby is born. I’ve had hyperemisis and been signed off work for the last week so not really having the best time so far. My partners been amazingly supportive during it bless him but now he’s got man flu and I feel like everything he does is annoying me because he’s clearly feeling more unwell than me 🙈 clearly having some wild hormones to be that annoyed at him.

We got a private scan at 7 weeks to check everything was ok and baby was doing really well, measuring a couple of days bigger than expected and we even have a video of the little heart flutter 🥰 got the 12 scan on November 10th so not long to go. I’ve had my bloods with my midwife last week so waiting for them to come back next week too.

None of my friends are pregnant just now, they’ve either got toddlers and gone back to work full time or no intentions of having children. How did you make mummy friends in your area? I’m signed up to a pregnancy yoga class but feel so sick I’m going to have to miss the first class today ☹️

Due May 2024 - Posting un here for some awareness. FTP

Logged on to view my NHS blood results from first midwife app. To my utter horror, it showed POSITIVE for Hepatitis B. Not slept all night with worry, and threw up several times. 0 drug use, and same sexual partner for 10 years. Obviously my partner was completely baffled at the alleged transmission.

I’d read a few posts on Reddit to say there had been false positives. Messaged my midwife first thing this morning, for her to apologise and say she had selected the wrong dropdown and that I am definitely negative for HepB!!! Obvs over the moon at that but wow, had an awful night. Just want to encourage everyone to double check these things. They make mistakes!!!

Hi all 👋🏼

Finally got the courage up to join, after lurking for some time!

I’m due 1st May, so am 13+4 today. It’s been a bumpy ride getting here, having had 5 miscarriages after my little boy who’s now 4. Am on a cocktail of drugs and hormones to help my body keep the pregnancy, which are making me feel totally awful, but am so grateful so finally have made it to the second trimester!

We had the NIPT so we know it’s a little boy 👦.

Hope you are all well and surviving the nausea/sickness/exhaustion!

Holdmysunhat · 29/10/2023 19:14

That’s amazing news @Due1stmay and I’m sorry you’re not feeling great with the drugs/hormones. Welcome :)

Rose5555 · 29/10/2023 20:32

@Due1stmay welcome!! Sorry you’ve had such a tricky time getting here… but here you are! Hope you start feeling better v soon.
I’m 10+4 today and feel like my nausea is still getting worse. I’m tired from the moment I wake up, nap at lunch times and then spend the afternoons and evenings feeling increasingly sick 🤢 but I never get the relief of actually being sick. I can’t wait to get beyond this stage……..

PeppedUp · 29/10/2023 21:09

@Due1stmay congratulations on making it this far and sorry about your previous losses. Must be such a relief to be in the second trimester!

PeppedUp · 29/10/2023 21:19

@SarahBowie I think yoga is a good place to start and maybe antenatal classes later on. Maybe try and start a WhatsApp group with people from there that have a similar due date to you so you have a support network of new mums when the baby arrives???

I think it’s easier to make mum friends when you have the baby as then you’re in the thick of it and everyone is desperate to connect. I’m not overly social but I’ve made friends at baby classes, the waiting room at the midwives, the playground and at nursery.

Holdmysunhat · 29/10/2023 22:42

@Rose5555 I’m a mere 2.5 weeks ahead of you but 10 weeks was the absolute worst for me and I read that it’s when HCG peaks.

So chances are, things will only get much much better for you so hang in through the week of misery. You poor thing.

I’ve had nausea and vomiting since the beginning (week 3) and it’s so much better now. I was sick once this weekend and the intense nausea still comes in waves but it doesn’t stick around for hours anymore. I thought to myself earlier today ‘wow I feel happy and normal for the first time in months!’ So relief is in sight - it may not feel like it but you’re very nearly there.

Rose5555 · 30/10/2023 06:49

@Holdmysunhat thank you 🙏🏼 that is so reassuring to hear. I feel a bit guilty moaning about it because I’m not even being sick, so I know that lots of others (just like you) have had a worse time of it than me! With my son my nausea stopped dead at 14 weeks, but with my daughter it carried on until about 20, although as you say I think there was a peak and after that it was slowly dwindling. I so hope this is the peak right now 🤞🏼
thank you so much for your words - very very helpful!! I’m glad to hear you’re feeling normal again - what a relief!!!

LondonGirl1992 · 30/10/2023 09:32

Morning all! How’s everyone feeling? Just wanted to say good luck to those of you who have 12 week scans this week!

MrsB2005 · 30/10/2023 10:01

Good luck everyone!!

How soon did everyone hear about their scan dates after booking appointment?

I'm sure my midwife said she was going to do it with me at booking but after a rather traumatic appointment, I left without asking her about scans and now not sure if a letter is likely to come through the post or if I need to contact her about it

Sa11yCinnamon · 30/10/2023 10:22

@MrsB2005 I was given my booking appointment and 12 week scan appointment when I phoned to register, but I think every area is different.

@Due1stmay welcome and congratulations, it must be such a relief being in your second trimester! Sending all positive vibes x

@SarahBowie sorry you've been so unwell, can't imagine how hard hyperemesis must be. You're a hero!!

Sa11yCinnamon · 30/10/2023 10:24

I'm 10 weeks today and had another scan at EPU this morning - measuring 10+2 but the midwife said they don't think too much about dates yet as it's still so early. In the last week I've had loads more energy and less nausea, managed to exercise again which I'm really happy about. Have my booking appointment next week and 12 week scan the week after. Can't believe my baby is a quarter cooked already!!

SarahBowie · 30/10/2023 10:42

I hope you’re ok lovely! Don’t like hearing about traumatic appointments.

I got my scan appointment letters through quite quickly after the initial appointment. My first appointment was just discussing medical history and I had to go back 2 weeks later for my bloods and give a urine sample. I asked the midwife at that appointment about my scans because I only had appointments for 12 and 28 weeks. She said they’ll make the booking for my 20 week scan at my 12 week. I’m 35 with some health issues so get extra scans apparently but this wasn’t explained at the first appointment so I was quite confused about the 28 week scan.
