Has anyone else have their 12 week scan this week? Mine went well and baby was measuring a day ahead.

I was very nearly sick in the waiting room though - I'd have thought the morning sickness would have passed by week bloody 12! Mine was long gone by this point in my last pregnancy so getting frustrated!

Rose5555 · 24/10/2023 19:15

@Nelliepledge ive now had my booking appointment and they didn’t listen to the baby in this one, or in either of my two previous pregnancies. As @Holdmysunhat says, I think it can be hit-or-miss whether they hear it at this early stage, so it might end up being less reassuring and more worrying for people… which is why they leave it until later appointments. In booking appointments they take a lot of notes down about your medical history and your family’s, and then they take blood and urine tests as well as BMI etc. it’s all very practical and unexciting!

Is anyone else really irritable with their partner? He's being so caring but he's really winding me up and I've gone quite off him tbh! Have read online that this is normal. Feel really bad!

PeppedUp · 24/10/2023 19:36

@LondonGirl1992 yes! Just noticed some this evening - felt a bit like stitch more than period pains though and was on one side.

Holdmysunhat · 24/10/2023 20:53

I can feel myself being a giant bitch too @newbie2788 I’m so irritable!

PeppedUp · 24/10/2023 21:02

@newbie2788 I wish my partner was more attentive to the fact I’m pregnant. Sometimes he acts surprised when I mention I feel tired or nauseous even though I low-level feel like that all the time.

junebuglb · 24/10/2023 22:13

There must be something in the air, I’ve also been really, really hormonal and snippy the past couple of days. Hope this doesn’t last too long… Husband is getting the brunt of it atm 😬💀

ClrDvs · 25/10/2023 08:35

@newbie2788 I'm also being snippy with my partner, he's trying really hard so I do feel guilty sometimes. Most of the time I just feel rage 🤣. Everything he does is just.so.loud! 🤣.

Sophie721 · 25/10/2023 17:11

I have my 12 week scan on Friday and I’m so anxious! Glad yours went well - hope you’re feeling better soon! @Holdmysunhat

Holdmysunhat · 25/10/2023 17:42

Thanks @Sophie721 I’m sure it’ll all go really well for you and I hope you really enjoy it! It’s a good reward for surviving the first trimester!

Twinkles18 · 25/10/2023 22:28

Got my booking apt for next Friday..excited but nervous at the same time! Also today all my nausea has completely left me so another panic even though I’m sure it’s fine 😮‍💨😅 stress city

Toda11 · 26/10/2023 07:10

11+3 and had a slight headache the last couple of days. I’m still drinking as much as I normally do.

NHS website says this is a common symptom, anyone else got this?

TheBirdintheCave · 26/10/2023 07:18

@Toda11 Yeah I get them on and off and they were awful with my son in the second tri.

rachlive · 26/10/2023 07:48

@Toda11 i was the same yesterday. I haven’t been too bad this time but my last pregnancy I got loads.

hope you have a lovely scan @Sophie721

glad everything went well @Holdmysunhat

i have my nipt on Sunday so I am nervously awaiting that!

FirstTim3Mummy · 26/10/2023 08:28

I am a bit scared to write this

I've been discharged from Tommy's biomedical research unit. They said this is a really positive step. Baby's heart is beating and baby moving around at scan showing 9w1d on Tuesday

This is my 5th pregnancy since having my son back in 2020 so naturally I feel terrified.

I've still not had a booking in appointment as I was waiting for this early scan before proceeding and now I can't get one until I'm 13 weeks!

So I've booked in for a private scan and NIPT next Tuesday. I just pray it all comes back okay so I can get some peace of mind

Anyone else similar situation?

TheBirdintheCave · 26/10/2023 09:01

@FirstTim3Mummy Oh gosh, how exciting but scary (totally get the feeling as I've had recurrent miscarriage since having my son in 2020 too). Congratulations on your little one! I had my NIPT with a scan last Saturday and still couldn't believe I was seeing a moving baby in there.

Very similar to my experience for my booking appointment @Rose5555 .

@Nelliepledge by husband is a pediatrician and I've asked him to try to listen to the heart beat. He totally dismissed it as he said it won't work with a stethoscope (at least not yet), I did insist and in the end all he (and I) could hear we're my bowels... They were so noisy you couldn't even hear my own heartbeat. 😄
No wonder babies like white noise when the come out, they're used to all that for 9 months!...

I'm full 9 weeks today, got my dating scan for 11+4, but I also got an appointment with an obstetrician for 11+6.
I don't really know why is that, only received the letter from the antenatal unit... I had a uterine polyp that I was about to have removed before getting pregnant, but I don't think they'd give me an appointment for that, as it doesn't affect the pregnancy as far as I know (only chances of chemical pregnancy, which we're well past that now).
I'm also 38, do you think it's because I'm a "geriatric" pregnancy? Any similar experiences?

Anyone had their flu vaccine yet?
I'm not anti vax (have had all the covid ones) but I've not had the flu vaccine for a number of years. I know it is recommended in pregnancy due to complications if we do get the flu (and noting we are going into winter months) but also just apprehensive of side effects given I don't take it.

I know I will likely just have it but wondered what others thoughts were? And if there was an optimal time in pregnancy to have it.

Im planning on having flu and whooping vaccines but not covid, just trying to find a place that isn’t fully booked with oldies for the flu jab

GratefulMum10 · 26/10/2023 16:11

Thanks @Toda11

Rose5555 · 26/10/2023 17:19

I’ll get all three vaccines. I had flu and whooping cough jabs with both my previous pregnancies, as well as covid jab with my last pregnancy, and all was fine with all three of them. No side effects other than a sore arm!

I had mine and had no side effects, though I was already feeling pretty crap! I get it every year along with covid boosters due to being slightly higher risk.

GratefulMum10 · 26/10/2023 17:24

Good to hear these views. thank you!
Have booked in for flu jab tomorrow!

FirstTim3Mummy · 26/10/2023 18:40

Personally I would advise having COVID booster. I lost a pregnancy to COVID last year.
I've had both flu and COVID jabs

PeppedUp · 26/10/2023 18:56

@Nina7 I don’t think the NHS considers you “geriatric” until you’re 40 now? I imagine there wouldn’t be enough obstetricians to keep up with the number of people having babies in their late 30s now!

I had obstetrician care in my last pregnancy and I can’t even remember why. They were a bit worried about growth for some reason but my son ended up over 4kg! I enjoyed it though as it meant I got extra scans
