Hi all, just continuing the previous thread.

@Holdmysunhat I got the seasickness bands you suggested, I think they're great!!

20 week scan done- wow what a relief! I ended up being sent away to go for a walk and have chocolate whilst she did another scan to avoid having to come back for a rescan as she couldn’t do all the checks. Thankfully she got them all! She was such a lovely sonographer and talked me through it all as she went- so just such a weight off my mind! I also was worried she may let slip the gender but she didn’t! I keep looking at the scan and trying to guess but I have no idea at all!

Sa11yCinnamon · 03/01/2024 16:38

@LondonGirl1992 that's great!!

All is well here too, baby boy (!) looking perfect. I thought I wanted a girl but honestly when she told us I was just thrilled.

Now my only fear is that I know two boys due before me and one uses my name... I'll still use it, I'd just be annoyed 😂

Oh my gosh, so excited for you! Congratulations! Is your due date 19/5 as well?!

I had such strong girl vibes at the start of my pregnancy and then after our scan I thought boy and now after today I’m so clueless!

I keep looking at it and trying to guess but it’s impossible to know from a head shape I guess! 🤣

Sa11yCinnamon · 03/01/2024 17:35

No mine is 21/5.

I was convinced I was having a girl, then tried so hard to tell myself it was a boy so it sort of didn't come as a surprise!

Aw it's exciting not knowing, will be amazing to find out when they're in your arms ❤

SarahBowie · 03/01/2024 17:46

That’s so interesting about the linea nigra! I’m quite glad I don’t have it if I’m honest as it would be so noticeable on my skin tone. My belly button also hasn’t popped out yet and just looks weirdly stretched haha

Another question from me! I’m still feeling lots of little flutters of baby moving, I’ve thought I might have felt a couple of stronger kicks like I’m being jabbed gently but really can’t tell if it’s baby. If you’ve been pregnant before, when did you start feeling the stronger kicks and what did they feel like? I’m 20+3

Holdmysunhat · 03/01/2024 18:24

@SarahBowie my linea nigra was quite unsightly in my last pregnancy so I’m pleased I don’t have it yet - though I suspect it’ll make its appearance soon enough! It is interesting, isn’t it. All the weird and wonderful changes!

In both pregnancies I’ve felt stronger kicks after around 22 weeks onwards. I’ve had an anterior placenta both times though so maybe that’s a little on the later side

Anyone else getting heartburn? Mine isn’t awful yet but I can tell it’s going to be! I might get a nice prescription from the doctor this time round. I didn’t want to bother them last time but this time round I’m all about the drugs!

SarahBowie · 03/01/2024 18:31

@Holdmysunhat I’ve got an anterior placenta too, it’s quite low down apparently so I wonder if that’s cushioning my little kicks. Still plenty time to feel things more. What did your kicks feel like after the flutters?

Holdmysunhat · 03/01/2024 18:44

@SarahBowie so mine can feel like big rolls and proper bashes now (I’m 22 weeks) but only really when the baby is in the bottom left of my stomach. For ages I just assumed that’s where my baby was hanging out but realise now that doesn’t make any sense! The baby will be moving all over but maybe the placenta isn’t covering that part of my body so I just feel it more there or something.

An anterior placenta is a blessing and a curse, isn’t it!

Holdmysunhat · 03/01/2024 18:46

And yes @SarahBowie I imagine your placenta will be cushioning the kicks. I notice midwives aren’t very forthcoming in letting us know this stuff but it’s good to be aware of - maybe they think we’ll be more lax in monitoring movement if we just attribute anything unusual to the placenta’s position so that’s why they don’t tend to mention it.

SarahBowie · 03/01/2024 18:54

@Holdmysunhat I’m going to keep more of an eye on it and see if I notice any big movements! A few of the girls in my yoga class have said they only notice movement in certain places with an anterior placenta so it must be doing something.

I have my re-scan tomorrow so hope my placenta hasn’t move further down, it’s already marked as low lying anterior from the first go at my 20 week scan and the sonographer said they’d need to keep an eye on it in case it goes further down. My friend at work as placenta previa and getting her c section on the 17th.

TheBirdintheCave · 03/01/2024 19:00

@SarahBowie I think as I'm an outlier as I felt baby very early but the kicks are quite strong now at 21+2. I still have to be lying down for my husband to feel them though. Baby enjoys kicking me in the bladder 😂

PurplePastaBake · 03/01/2024 19:02

I don’t have linea nigra either and I’m very pale with dark features so I’m surprised. Belly button is stretching a lot now too at 21w.

We’re having a boy. Flutters have turned in to gentle thumps but DP hasn’t been able to feel them yet.

Yourowgirl · 03/01/2024 21:40

So glad to hear about the other positive scans. Ours was really good too, took a little while for the patient sonographer to get everything she needed as our baby was constantly wriggling around, upside down and quite tucked up. I could watch that little heart beating all day! Feel even better than I did after 12 weeks.
I also don't have a linea nigra or stretch marks yet. I have had them in the past but I have heard it's a lot to do with genes rather than the moisturiser you use and my Mum doesn't have many.
@SarahBowie it's my first pregnancy but I have a posterior placenta and have been feeling gentle kicks for about a week now. Gentle jabs sounds exactly like what I get! I actually felt those before the rolls and flutters.

SarahBowie · 03/01/2024 21:49

@Yourowgirl @TheBirdintheCave maybe it is little kicks that I’m feeling then! I’ll keep an eye on it. I’ve been feeling little thuds again this evening but I’ve just been putting it done to trapped wind moving, maybe it not though.

Going to have a fizzy drink on the way to my scan tomorrow to see if that gets baby in a better place!

SarahBowie · 04/01/2024 14:47

I had my rescan today and baby still wasn’t quite in the right position! We got the head measurement and checked her face but still couldn’t see the heart properly so I was sent to run up and down the stairs for a while. Thankfully when I came back she’d moved enough to get the heart checked and everything is ok but she kept turning round again so it took quite a few goes.

Think I’ve got a sassy baby on my hands!!

Sa11yCinnamon · 04/01/2024 16:16

@Holdmysunhat I've just been prescribed omeprazole as my heartburn has been getting steadily worse, to the point it's even been putting me off drinking water. Doctor was really sympathetic and quick to prescribe over the phone.

Sa11yCinnamon · 04/01/2024 16:22

So today I've ordered nursery furniture, a car seat and then a (bigger) car to put it in... shit is getting real!

We already have a pram which we were really kindly given second hand and I'm going to book in to have cleaned etc.

All feels so bizarre, I'm 38 and don't think I'm grown up enough for this 😂

Sa11yCinnamon · 04/01/2024 16:23

@SarahBowie glad you got there in the end, I had to do some weird manoeuvring and shoogling about yesterday!

Emmacb82 · 04/01/2024 17:10

Those of you that are having girls, how sure were they on the scan? I’m having real anxiety that they’ve got it wrong which I know is ridiculous and it shouldn’t matter but I keep googling and reading stories of people being told girl but having boys! Someone help calm me down!

SarahBowie · 04/01/2024 17:19

@Sa11yCinnamon oh gosh we’ve ordered a new car too haha glad I’m not the only one! I’d actually forgotten about it and it arrives in a couple of weeks which is exciting! Glad I’m not the only one in weird positions at a scan.

We have a 4D private scan booked for February when I’ll be 26 weeks so I’m really looking forward to that but I hope she wants to cooperate for it!

@Emmacb82 my gender scan was very very clean as she was in a perfect position (most unlike her 😂) our NHS trust doesn’t tell you the gender at 20 weeks but I mentioned to the sonographer today we were told at a private scan that it was a girl and she said if she saw anything that made her think it wasn’t a girl she’d tell me today. Still very much a girl. The only mistake I’m aware of is my friends sister, they were told she was a boy but it turned out they think the cord was in a funny angle between her legs so looked like a boy on the scan, she is very much genetically female.

PeppedUp · 04/01/2024 21:02

@Emmacb82 my SIL was told with both babies that they were girls at early scans but they were confirmed as boys by 20 weeks. I don’t personally know anyone who has got a surprise boy at birth, although have heard of it.

@SarahBowie I think I previously felt proper kicks around 24 weeks although can’t remember for certain. They literally felt like someone kicking you from the inside. At the moment mine are softer and little taps.

Did anyone else get told their baby was breech at their scan? I thought it didn’t matter at this stage but the fact they made a note about it made me a bit nervous. I think over Christmas I felt the baby changing position quite a lot so hopefully that continues.

Holdmysunhat · 04/01/2024 22:05

@PeppedUp I’m surprised they’d note it at this stage. They always say it’s far too early to be worried about a breech right up till the relatively late third tri. I wouldn’t be worrying yet and sure it’ll all be great but I do appreciate it’s easy to say that about someone else’s pregnancy! Fingers crossed baby gets moving :)

oh my god this is me! i keep seeing and hearing about it too. also i'm 100% sure the sonographer that did it got my placenta placement wrong, she told me it was posterior when my 2 nhs scans have said it's anterior and i hardly feel any movements

my 20 week scan is in 2 weeks so we shall find out, fingers crossed they haven't got wrong! 😭

Laura96 · 05/01/2024 08:29

Hi all!

Bit of a panic post sorry!
Had my 20 week scan Tuesday all was perfect thankfully!!
I have been worried tho I had an aldi q10 night cream I use and I've been using it on and off only once at night
Its a shop bought one but just noticed it contains retinol and obviously can't use that when pregnant
Now I'm worried I've caused harm and its making me really anxious
Obviously not going to use it now moving forward but just wanted thoughts
Thanks!!

Yourowgirl · 05/01/2024 17:09

So glad you had positive scans @SarahBowie (despite baby making it challenging again😅) and @Laura96. On Jessie Ware's Is It Normal podcast the midwife said that what you put on the outside of your skin won't affect the foetus, but some guidance seems to be a lot more cautious. I've been less concerned about what's in the limited range of skin products I use since. I hope that is a little reassuring, but I know when you’re worried about something it's hard to make yourself feel better.
