@LondonGirl1992 my sickness has just come back too! I was never physically sick but my nauseous back. I was actually just googling it to see if that is normal! Seems it happens to a lot of people around this time. I'm definitely feeling extra emotional, so I wonder if it has to do with hormone levels. I'm 20+5, how about you?

Ah it’s miserable isn’t it! I spent new year with my head over the toilet- and this year it wasn’t due to the usual drinking! 🤣 I’m 20 + 1 so perhaps it can just come back at this stage. I’m totally off food again too- hoping it’ll pass!

Sa11yCinnamon · 01/01/2024 14:49

We are having babies this year!!!

Judethepud · 01/01/2024 15:33

@Sa11yCinnamon so exciting!!!

junebuglb · 01/01/2024 17:28

@Sa11yCinnamon eeeek!! 🤗

PeppedUp · 02/01/2024 10:34

Happy New Year everyone! We just had our 20 week scan and all is looking good. I felt kicks the night before so it was a less anxious appointment than the last one.

We’re having another boy. I was hoping for a girl but had an inkling that this pregnancy felt similar to the last so thought it might be the same gender. Does anyone else get gender disappointment? I feel a bit guilty about it but am going to try and think of names and look for some cute outfits to make myself a bit more excited.

Twdfn123 · 02/01/2024 11:31

@PeppedUp Like you, we had our 20 week scan and found we're having our 2nd boy. My husband and I both wanted a girl but we saw him kicking around the screen and just both thought he's healthy and that's all that matters. Our little boy is the most precious thing so I just think we get to have a little version of him and I couldn't ask for anything more. X

Athena1984 · 02/01/2024 12:45

We had our scan 2 days ago and it's a girl. So happy that everything is looking healthy.

TheBirdintheCave · 02/01/2024 13:08

@PeppedUp Yep. So much so that I'm not finding out what we're having until the baby is born just to hold onto the idea that it might be a girl for a bit longer. I'm convinced it's another boy though.

LondonGirl1992 · 02/01/2024 14:12

So happy to read so many of you have had scans and they’ve all gone well! I’m so scared for tomorrow and it’s all I’m thinking about- just so worried they’ll find something abnormal even though I think 99% of scans are probably fine.

How did everyone find the 20 week scan experience and is anyone else as anxious as I am?!

TheBirdintheCave · 02/01/2024 14:20

@LondonGirl1992 I was scared but baby had been kicking for a long time before that so I was reasonably confident that it was ok :)

Rose5555 · 02/01/2024 15:20

@PeppedUp we haven't officially found out the gender yet (scan’s on friday), but I'm almost certain its a boy. The sonographer said she thought it was at our 12 week scan, and if you study the nub theory at all it’s an absolutely classic boy nub. Honestly, I felt really really disappointed after our 12 week scan…. I was so surprised at the strength of my feelings, especially as we’re lucky enough to already have one of each! I just imagined a little sister for my daughter, as I grew up as the elder of two sisters. It’s ridiculous really. I couldn’t love my son more, he’s the most delicious, loving and wonderful little boy I could ever have wished for, but I still felt this crushing disappointment that I battled with for weeks… it was so weird. I have now completely turned my thoughts around and am looking forward to our scan on Friday where I am sure they’ll confirm he’s a boy, and I’m genuinely really excited to have a baby brother on the way for my two children. All a very long winded way of saying gender disappointment is real, and I sympathise. It’s the strangest thing - but don’t beat yourself up about it… feel it all. It will pass, and you’ll be so excited again soon. What is meant to be will be x

Yourowgirl · 02/01/2024 15:59

@LondonGirl1992 I'm more excited than nervous about the scan, but have been revisited by a few anxious moments over the last week about various things. I don't know if it's the wait between scans or having a bit more time on my hands than usual to think. Hope your scan goes really well and you feel better afterwards.

PeppedUp · 02/01/2024 16:52

Thanks everyone regarding gender disappointment - it makes me feel less alone I’m not the only one.

I think you’re right @Rose5555 that I just have to go through the feelings. I had it last time and now adore my son and I’m sure it will be the same again, but I am still mourning wanting a mother-daughter relationship.

@LondonGirl1992 sorry to hear you’re anxious. My biggest fear with scans is a missed miscarriage, which I was much less worried about this time than with the 12-week scan. It did take a while for the sonographer to go through all the body parts but the most important ones were at the start. I was nervous about the sex too but thought I got a peep early on so was prepared for it.

Oh, and someone was asking about CM a while ago? I think it stands for cisterna magna and is something in the brain that can cause developmental delays if it’s too large (although not always).

Good luck to everyone else getting a scan this week!

Holdmysunhat · 02/01/2024 18:43

Thank you @PeppedUp! I was the one wondering about CM! Good to know

Good luck today, what time is your scan?

Mine is at 3 and I feel the exact same as you, I'm not getting much work done this morning!

@PeppedUp I'm worried I might feel some gender disappointment, it was my only reason for not wanting to find out but my partner really wants to and I figure I'll have time to get my head around it. I've seen some quite mean comments about it on other MN threads but I think it's completely natural, no judgement here at all!

Yourowgirl · 03/01/2024 09:53

All the best for your scan too @Sa11yCinnamon - mine is at 2.30 so in the same boat as you!

Sa11yCinnamon · 03/01/2024 09:57

@Yourowgirl Good luck, let us know how it goes!

Mines at 2pm- eek!!
Terrifying, I’ve woken up with stomach ache which I know is just from anxiety! I’m hoping I’ll feel much calmer after.

Wishing you all happy healthy scans- keep us all posted! ❤️🥰

nh93 · 03/01/2024 12:25

good luck with all your scans ladies!! hope the bubbas are all healthy and you get the gender you hoped for ☺️
I also really hoped for a certain gender i think it's natural, i have one of each atm, obviously main thing is they're healthy and striving 🥰 (we are having a girl 💕💅🏽)

Emmacb82 · 03/01/2024 12:58

Good luck on all your scans ladies. I completely understand the whole gender thing. I’ve got two boys and always wanted a little girl having 2 sisters myself and they’ve both had girls. This was a surprise baby for me as we were complete or so we thought. So when we found out last week it was a little girl it really felt like she was meant to be. I do wonder how I would have felt if they had said boy. I know I would have struggled with it which makes me sound terrible as I love my boys dearly. I am now panicking that they’ve got it wrong as she was not in a great position! Utmost importance is that baby is healthy, but you’re only human and you can’t help how you feel x

SarahBowie · 03/01/2024 13:04

Good luck for the scans! I’ve got my re-scan tomorrow lunch time after baby didn’t want to be in the right position last week. Hoping she’s in a better mood tomorrow and wants to comply!

I get it about the gender thing. I was so convinced we were having a boy and I’ve always wanted a little boy of my own but when we found out we were having a girl it was instant happiness really. I’ve realised that there’s so many things we can do together that I probably wouldn’t do with a boy. I would like to have one of each but we’re a few years off a second one, this one needs to come out first!

Odd question, has anyone not developed a linea nigra? I have an app that tells you what to expect each week and it says most women will have developed one by now, especially if they are pale skinned. I’m really pale and haven’t got a hint of one! No stretch marks either but no one in my family has ever had stretch marks when pregnant so I’m hoping I’ve just got the good genes on that one!

newbie12345678 · 03/01/2024 13:15

@SarahBowie - I'm exactly the same as you and am also very fair (blonde, blue eyes) xx

Sa11yCinnamon · 03/01/2024 13:30

@SarahBowie no linea nigra here either! Also no stretch marks, I've been using a cream I saw recommended on here but I'm not very big yet.

Holdmysunhat · 03/01/2024 14:47

To buck the trend I accidentally found out we were having a girl (somographer let it slip and then confirmed) and I was surprised by how disappointed I felt. I know on one level that it’s completely daft and irrational but I’ve always found boy babies cuter and boys generally a bit kinder when I was a teacher.

I definitely feel a bit guilty and ashamed though and haven’t admitted this to many people in real life. There’s an assumption that all women are desperate for girls and all men are desperate for boys but that’s not always the case!

Holdmysunhat · 03/01/2024 14:49

@SarahBowie no linea nigra here either! Keep studying my belly waiting for it to appear but no sign as yet!
