Hi all, just continuing the previous thread.

@Holdmysunhat I got the seasickness bands you suggested, I think they're great!!

@Holdmysunhat hopefully I’m the same as you as it just clears up again soon! I’m hoping it’s a one off as I’ve been travelling a bit for work again this week and last and am just a bit out of my routine.

newbie12345678 · 14/12/2023 12:48

This happened to me @SarahBowie but I am now 18+2 and haven't had any sickness for almost a week now so hopefully it does ease off eventually for you!

Judethepud · 14/12/2023 14:32

@SarahBowie I'm 17+4 today and was sick this morning too after not being sick for over 1 week, hoping it's just a once off 🤞

nh93 · 14/12/2023 17:23

Holdmysunhat · 14/12/2023 09:54

@SarahBowie commiserations. I had a recurrence of sickness at 16/17 weeks but it's eased off now and I'm mostly fine (I'm coming up to 20 weeks) Poor you. If you've had an extended break, I reckon there's a good chance it'll disappear.

Relatedly, did anyone see on the news yesterday that they've finally identified the morning sickness gene and can probably now cure it? Great news for HG ladies - I just can't imagine how horrific that is. Three months of normal morning sickness just about finished me off https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cambridgeshire-67684023

yeah i read about that today.
so apparently the hormones from baby are what some of lack that makes us sick?
did they say what the cure is apart from introducing the hormones slowly?

Holdmysunhat · 14/12/2023 18:47

yes @nh93 that was my understanding. Blame it on the babies! They previously thought it might be linked to HcG levels but turns out it’s GDF15. So if they can lower or block GDF15 they could cure it, I think. Or increase exposure to it before pregnancy for women who have had HG before. That was my understanding. I loved that the lead researcher suffered from HG herself. She is such a hero!

Holdmysunhat · 14/12/2023 18:50

I’m trying to relax this eve as I have my 20 week scan first thing tomorrow and haven’t felt baby move in a few days! Baby was wiggling lots a couple of weeks ago. I know rationally it’s probably fine and too early regular movements but I’m definitely feeling the nerves a bit today!

TheBirdintheCave · 14/12/2023 18:58

@Holdmysunhat Best of luck for tomorrow! :D

Yourowgirl · 14/12/2023 20:45

@Judethepud @SarahBowie I'm really hoping mine goes soon. I had 3 days without being sick after 60+ days of vomiting daily but now it's back, in the evenings this time. I'm 16+1 so know it could still take a little while to go, and if I'm really unlucky it will continue beyond 20 weeks, but it's hard at the moment really hoping to be better and taking steps backwards again.
Hope the scan goes well @Holdmysunhat will be lovely to have the reassurance

ahh i see! gosh why did it take them this long to figure out i wonder, wish they discovered this 4 months ago! 🤣

atleast there's a cure! (fingers crossed)

Geekygirl13 · 14/12/2023 22:09

@Holdmysunhat I feel like that at the moment, I'm 18+2 and don't feel like they have moved, I'm assuming they have switched positions I hope. Let us know how the scan goes x

Holdmysunhat · 15/12/2023 12:27

Thanks all. My 20 week scan was really lovely. I was a bit surprised that I’d gone from quite powerful daily movements that my partner could feel to nothing at all - but turns out I have an anterior placenta so that explains it :) The baby shifted position and the placenta is now cushioning everything.

I also know it’s very common not to have felt anything at all or very little by 20 weeks so equally don’t worry if that’s you!

Sa11yCinnamon · 15/12/2023 14:40

@Holdmysunhat glad it went well and there's an explanation! I haven't felt anything at all yet which I know is totally normal, I just hate not knowing if everything is ok.

SarahBowie · 15/12/2023 15:10

@Holdmysunhat aw glad everything went well at the scan! Will they tell you as standard at the 20 week scan where your placenta is? I hear so many people talking about it but I’ve no idea about mine!

Nina7 · 15/12/2023 15:49

@TheBirdintheCave I did call the midwives to tell them, they just advised paracetamol.
Which I'm a bit reluctant to take, and the truth is that I wasn't that bad. I felt that I could manage it with soup, tea and lots of rest.

@Twinkles18 they didn't mention anything about an extra scan later on here... It must depend on the trust. Either way, I was referred to a obstetrician at 12 weeks, and she booked me an extra scan at 28 weeks, so I've got that anyway...

I've been feeling the baby move the last few days, maybe week. I wasn't sure at the beginning but now that it's been consistent and always at the expected area, I'm pretty sure it's that...
It felt a bit creepy at the start, but now it's a wonderful reminder that someone is inside! 😍
It also reminds me to eat more healthily 😄

I've also got our first baby item! I found a pram on marketplace that was essentially free (£20) that looks in quite good condition and very clean. It's an old joolz with big wheels and a cot which I think will work great for the start, taking the baby in nature (we've got some small woods not far)

I think later on we might get a fancier one (either new or marketplace), but it'll be a more compact, urban one to easily take around (and maybe travel with it). Or we might stick with this one, we'll see!

Baby stuff are so addictive 😍

@SarahBowie Thanks! Nobody has ever pointed out my anterior placenta (I’ve now had this in both my pregnancies) but I saw it flash on the screen today and was like ‘ahhh so that explains the lack of movement’ and the midwife agreed. If you take a look at your notes after your 20 week scan it should tell you there. It’s all so weirdly fascinating!

SarahBowie · 15/12/2023 16:50

@Holdmysunhat ooo I’ve got a private gender scan on Sunday so will see if they’ll tell me then too! Did you find out if you are having a boy or girl or keeping it a surprise?

nh93 · 15/12/2023 17:24

I also have an anterior placenta, i couldn't find movements from my previous 2 pregnancies till about 16 weeks + if i can remember
i'm 16 weeks tomorrow with this one & still can't feel anything yet, can't wait!

Holdmysunhat · 15/12/2023 18:40

@SarahBowie yes they should be able to tell you then. That’s really lovely to have a sex scan without it being part of the anomaly scan (which I always get stressed about!)! It’ll help with narrowing your names down too. We’re not finding out until the birth day this time which has pros and cons, I think!

@nh93 they reckon placenta position is all random and chances are about 35% each time so it’s a co-incidence that we’ve each had them in a row!

SarahBowie · 15/12/2023 18:49

@Holdmysunhat that’s exciting! I think I know more people waiting to find out than actually finding out just now but we really want to know. Both our mums are eager to know as well for gifts bless them.

newbie12345678 · 17/12/2023 08:42

Just sharing in case it helps someone else - I called the MAU yesterday because I was worried about something, and they told me they 100%, always always want us to call if we are worried about anything. I spent hours before feeling guilty about the idea of even calling, because I wasn't sure if I should or if it was too early, but she really put me at ease and made me feel better about it. Just thought I'd share in case anyone else has any concerns but is hesitating on calling Flowers

junebuglb · 17/12/2023 12:13

We went for a private scan this morning for a check up and to find out the sex before Xmas, just wanted to share that we are having a baby girl. 😊 all seemed to look good at a glance. They also gave us a 4d peek which was very bizarre but brilliant! Hope everyone’s getting on ok. 18+1 today and will be curious to see how baby is measuring at 20 weeks!

SarahBowie · 17/12/2023 13:02

Aw congrats @junebuglb that’s so exciting! We are just away to our gender scan with 4D peek too :)

A baby girl. 🥰🥰 how lovely
Our gender scan is on tuesday, it couldn't come fast enough! xx

SarahBowie · 17/12/2023 15:20

We’re also having a little girl 🥰 love the photo of her little feet! She kept sucking her thumb which was very cute.

Nina7 · 17/12/2023 15:36

Oh, congratulations!!🎉
It's so nice to see them in the scan, isn't it??
Waiting for our 20 week one after Christmas...

Time passes and the little ones are growing... I was thinking how this thread started, trying to guess HCG levels from how thick a pregnancy test line is... And look at us now! Little feet in a scan 💕

We know from our private NIPT that we're having a little boy!
It helps focusing on the names, because we're still very indecisive (we've had two picked out for a girl, but a very long list for a boy...)
