Those of you who are feeling movements...are you feeling them every day? I'm 17+6 and For the last two days I've been able to feel something whenever I sit still and focus but I can't feel anything yet today even when I try, not sure if I should call the midwife or if I'm not far along enough for that?

SarahBowie · 11/12/2023 09:50

@newbie12345678 I was on a roll of feeling something every day for about a week then it totally stopped on Thursday night last week, still wasn’t feeling anything Saturday so popped in to get checked out. They found the heartbeat straight away thankfully and says movements aren’t regular yet and there won’t be a proper pattern until around 24 weeks so not to worry. If you’re concerned though get checked, I felt so much better after hearing that little heartbeat.

Holdmysunhat · 11/12/2023 10:09

@newbie12345678 I'm 19 weeks and movements are still unpredictable. I had loads of movement at 16/17 weeks to the point that it was waking me up in the night, but then nothing whatsoever for well over a week. Then loads of movement again yesterday.

I remember this happening with my first pregnancy too. I'd get a long pause and think 'oh god, the baby's surely passed away' only to feel loads within a few days! I'm trying my best not to pay any attention to mine this time round since we'd be too early for EPU or anything at this stage anyway.

Twdfn123 · 11/12/2023 12:17

Just tested positive for covid at 18 weeks. Now I'm panicking 😭

Nina7 · 11/12/2023 12:31

Oh @Athena1984 and @Twdfn123 , I'm feeling for you...
I'm also not feeling well, a bit of fever last night and all flu symptoms...
I went to the work Christmas party on Saturday and even though it was a very calm evening and I was back before midnight, I think I caught a virus there and now I'm thinking how stupid of me to get exposed to a big crowd in the middle of winter... Christmas parties are the place to catch something 😟😟

I think I still can't find where is the balance of still getting on with what is expected from me in the normal/daily life, and what are the precautions and extra care I should take to protect the baby and have a better pregnancy!
Working at home today, I'll try not to rush going back to the office (even if I feel it is my duty to go back asap).

I had my 16-week appointment with the midwife last week and it was a bit disappointing... She only took my blood pressure and told me she'd give me iron supplements precautionary. (She actually forgot to give them to me and I remembered when I got back home, so I had to go back that afternoon to get them).

I'd love to have listened to the heart ❤️ but anyway... I'll have to wait for the 20 week scan now.

I think I've been feeling baby movements... But I don't know if I should believe myself or not, maybe my mind is too keen and is making things up!

Think I might have felt the odd movement after a nice relaxing shower with music but definitely not consistent and not 100% sure on if they are baby movements.

18+2 today and waiting until 27th Dec to find out baby sex at our 20 week scan.

Emmacb82 · 11/12/2023 14:44

I’m 17+5 today and had midwife appointment. She listened to baby and let me record it for my husband. Was a lovely relief to hear that sound!

Hope those of you who are unwell feel better soon

PeppedUp · 11/12/2023 14:44

@newbie12345678 I feel the same! Still not certain if I’m feeling movements but I feel something in there. I keep wanting to feel more so I can try and work out again whether it is the baby or not but they hardly ever happen (or at least not enough to match my impatience!)

I also had a very vivid dream last night about losing my pregnancy, which I think was triggered by my anxiety about wanting to feel movements.

@Nina7 my work Christmas party is tomorrow but now you’ve got me rethinking about whether I should go. Sorry to others that are also feeling unwell - hope you’re able to get lots of rest and feel better soon.

newbie12345678 · 11/12/2023 21:10

Thank you @SarahBowie @Holdmysunhat @PeppedUp Flowers

I ended up calling the midwife for reassurance and they took me in and heard the heartbeat which all sounded fine at 138bpm (I worried this might be low but on looking online it is in range for 18 weeks).

I think the consensus is from what everyone has said is that the baby is still just too small for me to feel all the time or very regularly at the moment.

I'm trying to be more relaxed but even having heard the heartbeat today I'm still worrying, but then that's not a surprise as I'm an anxious person anyway and pregnancy has turbocharged that.

Is anyone else feeling especially emotional at the moment? I've cried and got upset quite a few times this week!

Thanks for all the reassurance and hope everyone else is doing well Flowers

Also, is anyone else still having mild cramping here and there? Sorry for all the questions today!

Glad you heard baby's heartbeat and all is well. ☺️

mild cramping/twinges are normal as uterus is stretching as baby grows.
it can be quite worrying but try not to stress ❤️

Colourfulflowers · 12/12/2023 02:14

@PeppedUp sorry to hear about your dream, I’ve had similar and it’s really not a nice feeling. It has to be triggered by anxieties and worries.

@newbie12345678 I’ve had mild cramping too, and throughout the whole of my pregnancy so far (I’m 16w 4d). For me it’s been my most difficult symptom as it’s so confusing but I’ve learnt it due to your body growing and adjusting.

I have thought a few times I’ve felt some milf flutters in my lower tummy, particularly when I’m really relaxed and still. They are inconsistent, and I don’t know if they are baby movements, growing movements or simply wind!!!! (I’ve been very constipated too) Maybe a mixture of all!!

Athena1984 · 12/12/2023 13:19

@Twdfn123 @Nina7 hope you both are feeling better 🤞🏽

PeppedUp · 12/12/2023 17:14

Thanks @Colourfulflowers - I was so relieved when I woke up, but it still stuck in my mind during the day because it was so vivid.

@newbie12345678 I had quite painful cramps around the lower right edge of my bump last night. It was exactly in the area where you’re meant to get round ligament pains so, apart from the pain, I wasn’t too worried about it.

LondonFamily · 12/12/2023 17:28

As always, it's somehow very reassuring and comforting to read this thread :) I'm also getting mild cramping these days at 18wks. Haven't really felt any other symptoms, except a ravenous appetite after a saw the ultrasound at 16 wks 😈

I missed the 10 week scan unfortunately as I found out quite late but have had my first midwife appt. I'm still not booked for the 20 wk scan & quadruple blood test though and I'm really worried it might slip through the cracks between the midwife and the hospital staff since Christmas is coming and the 20th week will be right after that. The midwife hasn't replied to my reminder texts or calls for 2 days now. Any ideas on how I can escalate? Should I directly try to get in touch with the hospital where I've registered?
Thanks!

LondonGirl1992 · 12/12/2023 18:45

Oh my god I’ve been so poorly the last few days! It started on Friday night with the usual morning sickness vomiting/lack of appetite- same again Saturday only with awful tummy pains! Sunday I had such awful stomach ache all day and I hoped I’d sleep it off- but still there Monday so I rang triage and they told me to monitor it and come in if it felt worse. I had a sleepless night of pain so went in today and they said I have a viral stomach infection/bug and gave me some medicine.

The main thing is baby seemed fine- normal heartbeat etc but I’ve been feeling super sorry for myself and low on energy/off food/in pain!

nh93 · 12/12/2023 19:09

@LondonFamily i would chase up the hospital antenatal department x goodluck! x

@LondonGirl1992 sounds awful! glad everything with baby is ok, hope you get well soon xx

SarahBowie · 12/12/2023 19:13

Sorry to hear that some of you aren’t feeling well and are getting cramps! I’ve been having some horrible round ligament pain recently.

I’m away in Birmingham for work today and staying over. I work for a hotel chain and they normally leave a little treat in the room but I’ve come in today and they’ve given me a pregnancy pillow so I’m comfortable!!! We do have them on offer for guests but it’s just so lovely that someone has thought to put one in my room for me!

PeppedUp · 13/12/2023 13:17

@LondonFamily that sounds so frustrating and stressful! It’s hard to know how to escalate because every trust is different. There is a receptionist at ours who books the next scan/appointment when you come in so I would speak to that person if I was having issues. You could also try your GP? Your trust might have to do the NIPT if they miss the dates (or you could go down that route privately if you can afford it).

@LondonGirl1992 glad to hear baby is okay and hope you get better soon.

@SarahBowie thats such a nice touch!

Nina7 · 13/12/2023 15:05

Oh, @Athena1984 , I'm not feeling very bad but I just tested and it's positive for COVID... 😔
I've got a headache, a bit of brain fog and this pain behind my eyes...

I'm now feeling a bit guilty for not taking more precautions (working from home, not going to the Christmas party...).
I really hope the baby is fine...

I’m 17+4 and been sick again this morning, I thought I was over this!! Has anyone started getting sickness again in second trimester? I’m hoping it’s a one off but I was told I had hyperemisis in first trimester so now thinking I’ve just had an extended break from it for a few weeks and it’s back :(

Holdmysunhat · 14/12/2023 09:54

@SarahBowie commiserations. I had a recurrence of sickness at 16/17 weeks but it's eased off now and I'm mostly fine (I'm coming up to 20 weeks) Poor you. If you've had an extended break, I reckon there's a good chance it'll disappear.

Relatedly, did anyone see on the news yesterday that they've finally identified the morning sickness gene and can probably now cure it? Great news for HG ladies - I just can't imagine how horrific that is. Three months of normal morning sickness just about finished me off https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cambridgeshire-67684023

TheBirdintheCave · 14/12/2023 11:14

@Nina7 I think we all have it here too 😭 Third time, eugh. The last bout was only in September. Still waiting to get a positive test though it took a few days last time.

Do we have do anything specific, like tell our midwives?

Twinkles18 · 14/12/2023 11:48

Oh no @Nina7 and @TheBirdintheCave hope you’re both ok! My midwife said I need to ring and notify them if I got Covid as I’d need another scan in 3rd trimester..not sure if this is across the board or just for in the trust I’m in. Do no harm ringing anyway to be safe
