I had the weirdest but most exciting feeling tonight! I went for a facial and was super relaxed when I noticed little bubbles low down in my tummy, lower than my belly button. I told my facial lady (she has 3 kids) joking that it was the baby moving because they were relaxing too and she said it will be the baby! It’s possible to feel them at 15 weeks if you know what you’re looking for but will be a while until it becomes regular. How exciting!

Mum2b2024 · 28/11/2023 22:34

@SarahBowie aww wow how exciting!!😀

Mum2b2024 · 28/11/2023 22:37

Random question and sorry if a bit silly.. first timer here.. just wondered what other people did and opinions on maternity clothes... Do people buy a bit or second hand or what? I kinda wanna buy a couple of things new but then don't want to spend loads. I think I am gonna need some maternity jeans soon as starting to feel a bit tighter lol. Am 15 weeks at the end of the week.

Holdmysunhat · 28/11/2023 22:49

@SarahBowie that sounds magical!

@Mum2b2024 I’ve bought three pairs of maternity leggings and wear them on rotation with my comfiest oversized existing clothes. Maybe I’ll need to invest at some point in some more! It’s probably worth buying some maternity clothes in any case so you don’t stretch and wreck your nice normal stuff.

All my clothes from my last pregnancy in 2020 now look dated - most of them were second hand anyway - and I really don’t fancy wearing nursing tops and skinny jeans for the next 6 months!

Yourowgirl · 28/11/2023 23:11

Hi @newbie12345678 I was reading about this in What to Expect. It broke the weight gain down into components such as placenta, uterus, essential maternal fats (and other stuff I can't recall). This adds up to the necessary weight gain that is required to carry a child, but if you are a heavier weight/body fat percentage to start with, you don't need to gain as much to achieve this, and of course becoming more overweight increases other risks, which is why they don't encourage as much weight gain for heavier women. I hope I've explained that so it makes sense.

TheBirdintheCave · 28/11/2023 23:24

@SarahBowie Aww yay :)

@Mum2b2024 In 2020 I bought some stuff from eBay, got some things passed on from a friend and got some new things too. So a bit of a mix.

Sa11yCinnamon · 29/11/2023 10:07

@Mum2b2024 I've bought a few bits on Vinted, all in really good condition as I just don't see the point in spending loads on stuff I might just wear for a few months. Although I might start wearing maternity jeans for all big meals...

ClrDvs · 29/11/2023 13:19

@Mum2b2024 I've sworn that I'll only buy maternity stuff on Vinted (we'll see though lol). I don't see any value in spending more than necessary when there's so many other things to pay out for when expecting! Plus yaknow, environmental impact of buying new clothes with a short shelf life (I'm only planning on doing this once!) I got some lovely under bump Topshop jeans for £2.50 and some leather look ones for a Christmas party for £5.00, plus p&p - they were both like new!

Toda11 · 29/11/2023 13:20

16+4 today and had my second midwife appointment. All went well and great to hear the hearbeat again with the doppler this time!

4 weeks to wait and then we have our anomaly scan and another midwife appointment which I didn't expect as I thought that was next due at 24 weeks.

ClrDvs · 29/11/2023 13:25

@Mum2b2024 oop I lied... I did buy 2 pairs of Lucy & Yak dungarees in a size up from pre pregnancy. They're roomy anyway and I figured I'd ask my MIL to sew in some stretchy panels down the sides. They have been a GODSEND as it means nothing tight around the tummy.

TheBirdintheCave · 29/11/2023 15:01

@Toda11 Exciting! I don't get an appointment until 17+4 which is frustrating as it's with the consultant so I don't think we'll get to hear the heartbeat :(

I do have a call scheduled around week 21 with the Obstetrics department which I think is related to a genetic metabolic condition I have but all my midwifes are face to face and I have them every 4 weeks

TheBirdintheCave · 29/11/2023 15:23

@Toda11 Mine basically messed up the appointments. Consultant was meant to be tomorrow and midwife next week. Then they moved consultant to next week and midwife to Dec 20th 🙄 Very confusing. So my 16 week appointment will actually happen at 19+2.

SarahBowie · 29/11/2023 17:48

My asthma has flared up and I’ve had to get two inhalers today. Is anyone else finding theirs coming back? I’ve not been bothered with it for 10 years!

Edited

That sounds like a right mess up in the booking system!

Mum2b2024 · 29/11/2023 22:18

Thanks everyone. I will have a think and look!

MrsB2005 · 30/11/2023 14:00

@SarahBowie Yes, my asthma is the worst its ever been. I've had to have an asthma review and the nurse said lots of people are struggling at the moment and then being pregnant on top.

I am incredibly grateful to be pregnant but honestly I can't wait for it all to be over. It seems so so much harder this time around!

SarahBowie · 30/11/2023 14:33

@MrsB2005 I find myself getting breathless just talking at work! Here’s hoping your asthma doesn’t get any worse. I’ve just gotten over being really sick and now this so pregnancy hasn’t really turned out to be what I thought it would yet either.

In good news though, I just got my second trimester test for Down syndrome back and it’s 1 in 5000 so low and no further action needed. That’s a weight of my shoulders as I’ve waited a week for the results!

MrsB2005 · 30/11/2023 14:37

@SarahBowie sounds very similar to me, I'm constantly having to sit down and take a breather for 5 minutes.

Thats brilliant news about the test results - its such a worry isnt it!

I would just like a few weeks to feel "normal" before the big and heavy 3rd trimester.

We are meant to taking the children to Hyde Park next weekend - and whilst I wont be skating or doing any rides, they are so looking forward to it but honestly I am wondering how I'm going to manage!

SarahBowie · 30/11/2023 15:12

@MrsB2005 I hope you get on ok at Hyde park, it will be lovely to see it all festive though. I have my work Xmas thing week which will involve a bit of a trek around central London but hoping I should be fine for all the activities.

PeppedUp · 30/11/2023 18:40

Regarding maternity wear, last time I still fitted lots of my normal clothes until the end of my pregnancy (although it was lockdown so I mostly wore casual clothes). Just wanted to mention it so people don’t buy clothes unnecessarily.

All my normal leggings fit along side sweatshirts, loose fitting tops, etc. Also, you can always buy things like oversized dresses/shirts etc from non-maternity brands that you might be able to use after pregnancy. I was looking at some stuff on Cos today, like knitted dresses that I thought could work for pregnancy and beyond

nh93 · 30/11/2023 22:35

@MrsB2005 We took the kids to hyde park winter wonderland last week and they loved it!
Me on the other hand, had to lots of walking and i ordered a belly band that night due to the back pain! 😅

Goodluck and i hope you all enjoy it; it's really beautiful x

Nina7 · 01/12/2023 08:38

@SarahBowie that is so exciting!!!
Where did you feel it? I'm really looking forward to feeling the baby... I think it'll make it so much more real, and the bonding can start 🤩

OP posts:
SarahBowie · 01/12/2023 08:46

@Nina7 It’s was between my pubic bone and belly button. I’ve been feeling it every so often since the first time I noticed it but still nothing regular as it’s so faint so looking forward to stronger movements. I said to my partner it’s like if someone tickled you really gently but from the inside, just like a tiny little flutter of movement.

The best part about it was my partner was getting ready for work last night and came back in the living room and said something funny to announce he was there quite loudly and I felt the little flutter! I’m sure it’s just coincidence but if baby can hear mum a bit at this point maybe they can hear dad too? I’m not sure but it was really lovely.

PeppedUp · 01/12/2023 11:00

Happy Friday everyone! Just curious about how closely everyone is sticking to food restrictions during pregnancy? I’ve had a few slip ups and starting to feel guilty about it - smoked salmon and jamón, although I haven’t been eating them lots just on a couple of occasions due to massive cravings.
