My boobs are driving me insane! My nipples are so itchy I could happily cut them off. They are so distracting. I haven’t leaked yet in this pregnancy but I have in previous ones and it’s fine - normal and a good sign that everything’s working!
I’ve felt a few movements. I’d say for the past two weeks. Swishes and flutters rather than kicks, but it’s my third pregnancy. With my first I didn’t feel anything until about 17/18 weeks.
My main symptom to report is trapped wind. So painful it’s made me cry and retch. It’s really really uncomfortable. I can’t seem to escape it in the afternoons and evenings. Didn’t have this with either of my other two. Anyone else suffering?!

PeppedUp · 25/11/2023 16:45

@Rose5555 I’m not struggling with it now but have used Linden’s peppermint oil capsules in the past and found them helpful

Laura96 · 27/11/2023 10:09

Hi all
Bit of an anxiety post so apologies as I am a hypochondriac
I have had a bad cold for about 10-12 days
I have an appointment with my gp this afternoon
My main worry is on a night especially my nose is so so bunged up that I find I get off to sleep breathing through my nose but in the night I wake up with a raging dry mouth and sore throat from breathing through my mouth as my nose has obviously got so blocked in the night
It's just worrying me about baby getting enough oxygen to be ok
I am 16 weeks today so I know being bunged up and getting colds is very common but it is just worrying me just wondered if anyone else is going through this am I being irrational
I am guessing that baby is safe and sound as it would take a good drop in oxygen to harm them but is that right??

Thanks all!!!
From an anxious first time mum to be!!!

TheBirdintheCave · 27/11/2023 10:28

@Laura96 As long as you can breathe, they can breathe :)

SarahBowie · 27/11/2023 10:41

@Laura96 unless you are feeling particularly breathless or wheezy I think you should be ok but check with your doctor if you’re worried!

I seem to be having an asthma flare up and finding I’m often breathless so I’m booked in for review with the asthma nurse on Wednesday. Asthma can be contributing factor to baby not getting enough oxygen so I’m trying not to worry but it’s so hard isn’t it!

Toda11 · 27/11/2023 13:02

New one for me the last few days, definitely getting some aches in my lower abdomen, particularly when first waking up or coughing so sounds like round ligaments

PeppedUp · 27/11/2023 13:41

@Laura96 sorry you’re feeling anxious - I think it’s common to worry about every little thing when you’re pregnant. I think flus are more of a worry than colds, but do check with a doctor to put your mind at ease.

@Toda11 I’m getting that too, especially when I sneeze

Colourfulflowers · 27/11/2023 13:48

I’ve seen a few ladies are experiencing lower abdominal cramps. I’ve been having these too. I thought they had stopped for a week or so, but they’re back again… they’re so confusing! I’ve been having them on and off throughout the pregnancy so far. Currently 14+3.

My boobs (particularly my nipples) get really sore too but mostly when they get cold!!

Toda11 · 27/11/2023 13:57

@PeppedUp Glad it's not just me! Tbh it's not painful just more uncomfortable and tends to go away when I move if I have been lying on my side asleep over night

Edgeofthesea · 27/11/2023 14:41

Oh my goodness, the boob/nipple soreness is so hard at the moment! I'm breastfeeding my toddler too and it's so sore every time he latches.

As an aside, I posted last week after having an elevated nuchal translucency measurement of 3.4mm and had lots of lovely replies. Well, after an agonising week of checking my phone and expecting a horrendous call any minute, I just got "Low risk" results of 1 in 196, which frankly still feels quite high to me. I also got my appointment letter through for my anomaly scan on 9th Jan, so I feel like it might be a tough wait through Christmas and NY, I'm slightly dreading the scan with the chance of heart defects, as well as checking the nasal bone etc. In the meantime, I'm going to have private NIPT testing and hopefully that will put my mind at ease a bit. Sorry to switch topics again, but some of you left such kind and reassuring replies so I wanted to give an update x

GratefulMum10 · 27/11/2023 15:48

Aw @Edgeofthesea try not to worry (easier said than done I know) it's good you've booked the private scan and at least can put your mind at rest Xmas and NY. Sending positive vibes.

On another note my Trust has said on the 16 week appt no one else can be with me. They already asked about domestic violence in the booking appointment and I can't find anything on the nhs website about it- anyone have the same protocol at their trust and know the reason why?

PeppedUp · 27/11/2023 18:29

Oh @Edgeofthesea, sorry to hear you’re worried about your results. Good idea with the NIPT - you get a scan with that normally, right? Hopefully that means they can check the nasal bone etc quite soon when you go for the appointment instead of waiting until next year?

Yourowgirl · 27/11/2023 19:30

@Colourfulflowers the sore nipples almost made me cry the other day! Agree it's probably from getting cold, but I also think it's definitely time I invest in some new bras (perhaps I need thermal ones).
Thoughts go out to all that are worrying at the moment, it's so hard when you can't fully relax and there are so many things to worry about if you let yourself go there!

SarahBowie · 27/11/2023 22:57

Has anyone else’s bump appeared a couple of weeks ago but not really grown since?

I’ve been taking weekly photos to see the gradual growth but seem to be exactly the same size as two weeks ago when I thought I’d have some noticeable difference given how much baby is growing.

TheBirdintheCave · 28/11/2023 08:13

@SarahBowie Yeah mine seems to be about the same size. I was thinking this yesterday.

Laura96 · 28/11/2023 08:40

Anyone used vicks in pregnancy? Reading mixed things online
I used it last night after inhaling some steam and it really helped!! But now I'm worried I've done the wrong thing!
Thanks!

SarahBowie · 28/11/2023 09:20

@TheBirdintheCave I’ve got my 16 week appointment with my midwife next week so I’m going to ask her then to make sure everything is ok!

TheBirdintheCave · 28/11/2023 09:26

@SarahBowie I'm sure it is. It could be that we were more bloated before and that's calming down now whilst the bump increases so it could look the same way for a while.

junebuglb · 28/11/2023 10:18

@SarahBowie @TheBirdintheCave so relieved to read this as I have been having a niggling worry about this over the past couple of days. I’m sure it’s probably normal. At each of my early scans I was measuring a couple of days behind (from my own dates) putting me back nearly a week in total by 12 week scan. My mind has been running worrying that I’m not growing baby well. Sure all is normal though and glad to have midwife appt next week too

i think it's protocol to ask about domestic violence as they had to ask me at my booking appointment
but usually the 16 week parents can come from what i've experienced

oh the nipple pain and breastfeeding is the worst!! in still BF my 2 year old (any advice how to stop will be greatly appreciated)

SarahBowie · 28/11/2023 12:42

@junebuglb it’s good to hear that others are thinking the same thing! I think @TheBirdintheCave might be on to something with the bloating, that makes sense.

I’ve got my 16 week appointment next week as I’ll be 16+4 then and I’ve heard you might be able to hear baby’s heart beat at that appointment so I’m hoping my midwife offers me that as a bit of piece of mind before my gender scan on 17th December.

I’m waiting for my second trimester Down syndrome blood results to come back too so I’m a bit of a bag of nerves at the moment with that and my bump!

newbie12345678 · 28/11/2023 17:07

I have a question about food...does anyone know why it is that if you are overweight to begin with, you don't need to put on as much weight? Might sound obvious, but while I understand why you need to eat enough to support the growing baby, I don't understand why you need to gain weight for weight's sake, if you know what I mean? Because that's what the guidance that you don't need to put on much weight if you are already overweight suggests. In what way does pre-existing weight help pregnancy? Hope I have phrased this in a way that makes sense!

Holdmysunhat · 28/11/2023 17:41

I don’t know @newbie12345678 but I read on the NHS website that the baby only needs a couple of hundred cals a day extra and that’s not till the third trimester! I feel so cheated and my body definitely hasn’t got this memo (I enjoyed a delicious KFC popcorn chicken meal for lunch today!) but that’s another story.

So I’d guess being overweight is more of a health risk to the mum (potential high blood pressure, pre eclampsia, increased risk of complications etc) that outweighs other considerations?

That said, I read in another book (the Emily Oster one) that said the risks of the mother not gaining enough weight are higher than the risks associated with gaining too much weight through overeating (apparently they monitor weight very closely in the US) Not sure if this applies to women who were of a higher BMI to begin with though

newbie12345678 · 28/11/2023 18:06

Thanks @Holdmysunhat ! Yes, it's very confusing. I completely understand why you need to eat a bit more in the third trimester. What I don't understand is why your body just needs to have a certain amount of fat on it and therefore underweight women need to put on lots on overweight women not very much. I wonder what the purpose of the weight is? (Not the calories for the baby). Random musings on a Tuesday! xxx
