How on earth are you getting comfortable in bed?

I have to wake up every few hours to pee which is fine but I’m not getting sleep in between this time. I’ve got reflux so have to be slightly propped up. If I lie on one side for too long my hip gets sore so I’m tossing and turning all the time. My back aches even with a little wedge prop under my bump.

I bought a pregnancy pillow hoping that would help and I think I actually slept worse with it!

Yourowgirl · 16/11/2023 11:43

Congratulations on your scans @Athena1984 and @MrsB2005 - what a feeling!
I had my worst sickness so far two days ago but this morning I woke up feeling fine, and actually hungry. It's such a relief to have a break from the symptoms and I hope it keeps getting better for us.
Good luck telling your children @MrsB2005 , I hope they take it well and get used to the idea. I remember being upset when I found out my mum was having another baby after a gap but I ended up loving having a new little brother!

I borrowed a friends wedge pillow but didn't find it comfy at all!

Ended up getting one this style and seems to agree with me much more!

SarahBowie · 16/11/2023 11:50

@Toda11 I’ve got one of these plus a little wedge under my bump and just can’t get on with it :(

I’ve had a banging headache all morning because I got about 3 hours sleep in total last night. My mum says it’s natures way of preparing me for when baby comes haha she’s joking bless her.

MrsB2005 · 16/11/2023 11:53

@Yourowgirl Thanks! Im so nervous although my husband decided in the antenatal waiting room was a good time to ask me (it felt like he shouted it) whether I was worried about their reactions to us having a baby or the fact they will then work out we still have sex.
The gentleman next to us didnt know where to look or whether to laugh or not!

(Our children are 16, 15 & 11)

@SarahBowie I don't - is the honest answer, I cant get comfortable, then like you need a wee although I have found a V shaped pillow is helping curled round me so i can lean on that semi - sitting up, also I have "given up" trying to get to sleep and now get my kindle out and 7 / 10 i dose off reading untill the next time my bladder calls

TheBirdintheCave · 16/11/2023 12:01

@MrsB2005 Oh the eternal night wees! SO annoying 😂

MrsB2005 · 16/11/2023 12:04

@TheBirdintheCave I was clearly naive to think I had untill the third trimester before I would have to worry!

TheBirdintheCave · 16/11/2023 12:18

@MrsB2005 I think I was up four times last night 🙄 At least we have an ensuite now so I'm not traipsing across the hall.

SarahBowie · 16/11/2023 12:20

@TheBirdintheCave blessed with the short trip to the en-suite too thankfully!

SarahBowie · 16/11/2023 12:31

@MrsB2005 it’s rubbish isn’t it! Then it’s the constant “you look quite tired, are you ok?” at work. No Sharon I’m not ok, I’ve hardly had any sleep and now have to deal with crap all day haha

I can’t even have some nice chocolate to make me feel better because it makes me sick!

The mood swings are real haha

Sa11yCinnamon · 16/11/2023 12:35

I've been getting up 2-3 times during the night to pee, last night I slept through from 12-7 and couldn't believe it. Definitely setting me up for the next few years 😂

Emmacb82 · 16/11/2023 16:22

Just when you start to relax about things, something always happens to let doubt creep in. I’ve just had some pink spotting with a couple of minuscule clots. Can feel like a really dull ache in stomach. From what I’ve read it can be normal and this is not my first rodeo but it doesn’t half make you anxious :(

Colourfulflowers · 16/11/2023 17:03

@Emmacb82 Sorry you’re feeling anxious. I know what you mean, I had a worry earlier this week with awful period like cramping which lasted for almost 2 days straight (which now appear to have disappeared). I did get checked and everything was ok. But it can be worrying as some pregnancy symptoms are just so confusing. Hope you’re doing ok xx

I’ve been up in the night peeing too. I get a real urge and then when I go there’s not as much there as I thought there would be! I’ve ordered a pregnancy pillow (currently using a spare pillow under my tummy) so hopefully will be a little more comfortable too.
Hope everyone’s doing ok xx

LondonGirl1992 · 16/11/2023 20:25

Does anyone have any pregnancy pillow recommendations? Thinking of treating myself with tomorrow being Black Friday and all!

Yourowgirl · 16/11/2023 21:45

@LondonGirl1992 I chose the Bella moon one as a birthday treat! Dreamgenii one has also been recommended

newbie12345678 · 17/11/2023 10:24

Hey everyone, 14+2 here and having a bit of a worry because my morning sickness (more like all day nausea) is back the last few days despite having cleared up the last few weeks. It's making me anxious that something has gone wrong with the connection to the placenta and so the hormones are just free-floating around my body again. Has anyone had their morning sickness disappear and then come back again? I think I'm a bit ahead of some of you from what I can see (due 14th May). I have a scan at the EPU on Monday because I had some bleeding at 12 weeks and they wanted me to come back in two weeks to see how I'm doing. I'm really finding it hard not to fret as I have a couple of health conditions anyway and we weren't sure how easy any of this was going to be. Looking for some reassurance? Flowers

TheBirdintheCave · 17/11/2023 10:27

@newbie12345678 I'm 14+4 (though also due 14th of May so not sure how that works out lol) and currently have some days where I feel nearly normal and others like today when I still have some nausea. It seems to be a normal thing as the symptoms ease off now that we're in the second trimester.

newbie12345678 · 17/11/2023 10:37

@TheBirdintheCave - sorry you're right, I'm 14+4 too, added it up wrong 🤦‍♀️ Thanks for sharing, I guess what I'm worried about is that I had two solidly better weeks and now I feel like I'm back at square one and wondering why. It's so hard not to feel so anxious

TheBirdintheCave · 17/11/2023 10:49

@newbie12345678 I know, I'm scared about different things every day.

SarahBowie · 17/11/2023 10:50

@newbie12345678 I hope you feel better soon. I’ve been told by a few people, including my midwife, that you may feel better after first trimester for a bit but that the sickness might come back and go away again for the duration. It seems especially common if you’ve had HG as it’s recurring.

Holdmysunhat · 17/11/2023 11:15

@newbie12345678 I'm week 15 + 4 days now and thought my days of vomiting were finally behind me as I hadn't thrown up since about Week 12.

Until yesterday morning when out of nowhere I was massively sick and almost missed the toilet! I can feel the baby kicking plenty so everything seems alright. I think hormone surges can cause sudden symptoms which wane and reoccur. Try not to worry :)

I’d honestly try not to worry if I were you! I suffered with quite extreme sickness during my first trimester and then would feel like I turned a corner and have a normal weekend etc and be so full of worry- only for it to come back! I’m due 5 days after you and even now I have days where I feel back to square one and have to try not to
throw up at work and feel awful again. I think it’s totally normal!

It’s easier said than done- but try and relax as much as you can. I’ve just downloaded the mindful app because I’m really conscious that as an anxious person, I do worry a lot and everyone tells me how bad that is for the baby. I’m trying to now be in the mindset that worrying won’t change anything- so just try and take it a day at a time.

p.s. I also had 3 big bleeds and weeks of constant bleeding (I was in hospital twice with it) so I can totally empathise. But it’s common and I’ve read a million stories of women having bleeds and still having healthy pregnancies and baby’s! So take a deep breath and just try and not worry so much if you can ❤️

Due1stmay · 17/11/2023 14:07

@newbie12345678

I’m a bit ahead of you - due 1st May and so 16+2 now. I had a horrendous first trimester - very very sick - and that was seeming to gradually ease at about 13.5 weeks. Then at 15 weeks, I had 3 days of the worst sickness I have had. I was totally miserable and had persuaded myself I was going to be ill for the rest of the pregnancy but then this week I have felt SO much better… almost normal (such a relief but but in itself brings other fears).

I really feel your fears - I’ve had lots of miscarriages - but from my experiences, symptoms really don’t tell you anything about the healthiness of a pregnancy. Good luck on Monday - I’m sure everything will be fine and you’ll enjoy seeing the baby again 😊

newbie12345678 · 17/11/2023 15:36

Aw thank you so much everyone, I really appreciate all your reassuring words! Sorry to hear others are still feeling sick but relieved that I'm not the only one who has had sickness return after a period of absence. I definitely need to try and get out of my own head with it all because I am an anxious person and prone to worrying about anything, especially something this important! I think I'll try and download a mindfulness app too and try to focus my attention on that. Thank you and hope you all have lovely weekends Flowers

Mum2b2024 · 17/11/2023 22:30

Sorry to hear some people not feeling great, hope it eases soon! Had my 12 week scan today. All ok so far, just got to wait for blood test results! Baby being a bit stubborn and didn't wanna face us much... Reckon it was trying to sleep 😂 a few days ahead now and due date 24th May from 28th so 2nd trimester from today lol. Hope everyone doing ok. If u want a mindfulness app headspace has 50% off the for year due to black Friday from £50 to £25!
