LeopardLover · 02/03/2024 06:17

Thanks everyone 🥰

Elphamouche · 02/03/2024 11:34

Awww congratulations all who have had their babies all ready!!
I’m officially on maternity leave now, just waiting to have a mum to be spa treatment.

@Littlemiracles232504 No joke, we’ve done all 3 bedrooms and ripped out our staircase 😂😂. Got to finish the nursery this weekend. Then I want a wall plastered, and the lounge done. I think I’m going to have to wait for the last two 😂

NewbiePL · 02/03/2024 19:17

Good luck all the decorating @Littlemiracles232504 and you have some time to relax before baby makes an arrival!

my due date is end of the month but being induced next week due to baby’s growth - all unexpected but have accepted it’s the best thing for baby.

hope you enjoyed your spa day @Elphamouche what a lovely way to relax and have time for you

hope everyone else is doing ok

Hi I'm still on here.

I've been measuring small since my 28 week appointment and have been under fetal medicine since.

All of my previous pregnancies I have measured small but given birth to 7+lbers.

They wanted to induce me at 39 weeks without any reason except baby is smaller than average, but I said no. Baby is growing everything and heart beat monitoring is going well. No issues with placenta.

All of my previous pregnancies have been over due 40+5, 41, 41+5. I've given birth spontaneous vaginally with them aswell.

I think once you are under fetal medicine it can get medicalised.

I've been told I can't go to the birth centre which has made me feel a little bit sad as my last Labour was there and it was so nice and different to my previous labours.

OhmygoshREALLY · 03/03/2024 09:58

@Hellopello3 same boat here! Baby is classed as SGA based on growth scans but I’m not convinced, have never had any problems with placenta or cord etc, no worries re movements. They wanted to induce at 37w but I declined and we’re now in a bit of a to and fro over where to give birth - my other 3 were all born at home, homebirth midwives are happy to go ahead and stick with homebirth, consultant says no as wants continuous monitoring during labour so I’m all up in the air currently and still not sure what I’m doing 🤷‍♀️ I totally agree that once you’re in the system they pile on layers of medicalisation and a lot of the time it’s unnecessary - the thing is, 9/10 times all would be fine if mum and baby were left alone; from the medical perspective they don’t know which is the 1/10 that wouldn’t be ok, so they treat everyone as if they are that 1/10 which leads to a lot of unneeded intervention - but they don’t know (sometimes even retrospectively) which is needed and which isn’t. Which I totally get and am sympathetic to their perspective, but it doesn’t mean I need to take everything they say as gospel 🤷‍♀️ I’ve discussed all this with my midwives every step of the way and so far they’ve been on board so I’m 🤞🤞 all stays ok and baby stays happy so I don’t need to go down the super medicalised route!

Yes we are in a similar situation.

When I speak to people they say why wouldn't I follow what the Dr's tell me and get the induction.

If the baby was distressed or showing signs of not growing every week then I would. But if all my pregnancies have gone over and have been 7lbs + then the baby is not ready to come out yet.

The Dr's have said then they would like to induce if the baby doesn't come by my due date. But I think I will refuse and go in for daily monitoring.

I've been watching one born every minute on C4 and there was a women who was getting induced because she has diabetes. It took her 4 days of pessary and hormone drips before they ended up giving her a c-section as it wasn't progressing.

I do'nt want that if there isn't a high risk.

Ah it’s nice to hear from someone also not following the dr’s path! Exactly the same re if I had any worries regarding the baby I’d happily go in and take the induction. But their logic is counterintuitive to me - they reckon the baby is small and won’t cope with labour - so they want to bring her earlier than needed, in a way that’s known to be more distressing for babies 🤔 I also work in maternity and have seen so so so many inductions for supposedly big/small babies who then arrive perfectly normal, average sizes! So I’m even taking the growth scans with a massive pinch of salt. I think being so many babies in makes a big difference - I’m on my fourth, like you, and at this point I think we know our bodies in pregnancy and it gives a lot more confidence when it comes to decision making and dr’s advice (which is ultimately all it is!).

NewbiePL · 03/03/2024 15:46

Interesting reading your posts on delaying inductions @Hellopello3 and @OhmygoshREALLY and really hope the medical teams listen and respect your wishes.
I’m due an induction on Weds due to continued reduced growth in baby, high pressure in the cord and reduced movements. One of the doctors explained that even if my cord pressure levels and headed back to normal levels they’d still recommend an induction as they were concerned that towards the end of the pregnancy the placenta starts to shrink and can cause distress for the baby who is already having slow growth. This is our first so it’s all been unexpected but the doctor and midwives helped explain things and said if baby’s growth has slowed as such they might do better to come out.

Toddy21 · 05/03/2024 09:27

Hi I’m new here, I’m just wondering if any of you ladies here had a short cervix?

NewbiePL · 12/03/2024 13:51

Hi all

Hope you’re continuing to stay healthy and safe as you’re approaching your last few weeks of pregnancy.

Our little one arrived on Friday afternoon after being induced at midnight on the Thursday. Thankfully it wasn’t too traumatic and the whole labour was less than 90mins! Baby was a tad small when born so grateful we went through with the recommendation to induce and can help baby grow better on the outside.

wishing you all the best for the remainder of your pregnancies hope the deliveries are all healthy and safe xx

Allaboard209 · 12/03/2024 14:10

@NewbiePL congratulations! glad it all went well and that your little one grows big over the next few weeks! How is the feeding journey going?

NewbiePL · 12/03/2024 14:13

Thanks so much @Allaboard209
feeding is going well I got help in the hospital to collect some colostrum which baby had but has been on formula since with bits of hand expressed milk. haven’t been able to get a good latch on but the midwife is visiting this week so will ask for some help with techniques. Appetite is building with each feed so hopefully weight will be going up soon.

LeopardLover · 12/03/2024 16:56

Huge congratulations @NewbiePL ! Can't believe your labour was so quick. Wow!

Glad all is going well 💜 we're also working in gaining weight and latch issues. We've seen an infant feeding specialist, seeing an osteopath tomorrow, tongue tie clinic on Friday and a private lactation specialist on Monday. So we're giving it our best shot, 😅🙏🏻

Hellopello3 · 12/03/2024 17:41

Congratulations ❤️

Aquarius93 · 17/03/2024 09:48

Hope everyone is keeping well and the new arrivals are settling in well.

Our little boy was born on Monday 11th March, after a very quick delivery (2.5 hours from waters breaking to his arrival!). I was due to be having a c section, planned for yesterday but he obviously had other ideas.

Busylizzie85 · 17/03/2024 11:43

Congratulations @Aquarius93 born on my birthday 😊

My little girl was born Friday the 15th at 11:07 via C-Section weighing a whopping 10lb 1! 💕

Elphamouche · 17/03/2024 11:49

@Aquarius93 and @Busylizzie85 congratulations!

We’re just playing the waiting game for the call from the hospital for the induction. S&S did nothing for me Friday morning sadly and this little bean is too comfy to come out of their own accord sadly!

Aquarius93 · 17/03/2024 13:31

Congratulations @Busylizzie85! Hope you’re recovering well!

Hiddenvoice · 17/03/2024 13:49

Congratulations @Busylizzie85 @Aquarius93
My little boy was born on the 13th via c section- 7lbs 2oz for being born 2 weeks early.

Hellopello3 · 17/03/2024 16:56

Congratulations everyone 🥳🎊🎉. I've agreed to an induction if the baby doesn't come by Thursday. I'm nervous, but hopefully it will be a normalish labour.

Elphamouche · 17/03/2024 20:00

I’m getting upset as I rang the hospital tonight to see if there was any update as consultant has said not to go over 39 weeks. I’m 39 tomorrow. Hospital has said that actually the process has changed and they will either call tomorrow with a bed. Or if no beds then they will call Tuesday to do a wellbeing check but not definitely induce.

So this is now eating into DH’s paternity leave, and what he been told by my consultant, midwife and DAU isn’t correct according to the hospital. Feeling pretty tearful.

Hiddenvoice · 17/03/2024 20:23

That’s awful @Elphamouche I would contact your midwife/ consultant in the morning to ask them to chase this.
i was told I couldn’t go over 38 weeks and was panicking at 37 that I hadn’t heard anything. I phoned my midwife and it was all sorted within a couple of hours. Hopefully yours can be sorted quickly too!
