Hi ladies, I couldn’t find another thread made, so made this as the other one was full. I will try tag a few people … if you can also tag.

@ttcttc nope, on the 16th! Depends on your health trust, mine offers from 40 weeks and I had my first at my 40 week midwife apt!

I was confused because of your name lol.

I'm north west/Cumbria. I'll see tomorrow what the situation is. My friend said she had to go to the hospital so I'm assuming that's what happens here.

ttcttc · 23/10/2023 20:30

NSx · 23/10/2023 20:15

@ttcttc I saw my midwife at 39+1 last week and she booked me in for a sweep on Friday when I’ll be 40+2 😂😅 …..

I am also still getting colostrum as I don’t think I’ll be breastfeeding after birth

How see you getting on with it? I tried the other week and was pretty pitiful. Then I give up as was off my feet with cold. I've just used the last of the 6 syringes the midwife gave me so I'll ask for some more tomorrow. I was going to buy some but with being I'll I didn't and im assuming I'd buy them offline?

FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween · 23/10/2023 20:31

@ttcttc ah, of course! Should really be in time for Halloween 😂😂

NSx · 23/10/2023 20:45

@ttcttc I do alternate days, after a shower works best I find, and I get like 5ml minimum each time. I’ve already used my 30 syringes I got off Amazon (midwife didn’t give me a single one) … so now I’m just using these wee sterile pots I took from work, 😂 work at a doctors surgery.. fill them up with like 5-10ml then freeze.
Just get them off Amazon, it’s easier if you’re feeling poorly!

@FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween i also assumed you were due halloween 🎃 sorry 😂😂😂

Ahh congrats @doeandfawn enjoy every second.

I will be 41 weeks tomorrow and booked in for my induction tomorrow afternoon.

This time last week my midwife couldn’t do a sweep as my cervix wasn’t ready.

Rather nervous reading stories about inductions taking days although this is my second bub so hoping it’ll be a bit quicker than the stories I’ve read 🤞

BeaKind · 24/10/2023 07:57

@doeandfawn congratulations and soo pleased you got to have a gentle c section. I had one with my first (although it was technically still emergency) but it was amazing watching him being born 🥰

@cruciverbalista can I ask how have you approached the combo feeding? Do you have set feeds that are formula? We’d like to do this too so dh can feed but not sure how to go about it.

@AlongcameLainey I was induced with my first with the propess pessary and it worked quickly (within a couple of hours). It actually worked too well and they had to take it out a bit sooner than they thought 😂 best of luck to you! 🤍

BeaKind · 24/10/2023 07:59

Oh also, is anyone managing to get their baby to sleep in a crib/next to me thing?

We’re co-sleeping at the moment and it’s lovely and sleeping pretty well, but I just feel a bit on edge doing it 😬

AlongcameLainey · 24/10/2023 07:59

@BeaKind thanks so much for the reply. That is great news that it works so quickly!

I woke in the early hours with back ache and have been contracting since so hoping we have beaten the induction….. we shall see 🤞

Sagittarius25 · 24/10/2023 08:02

39+4 today and just absolutely feeling like nothing with ever happen, although I know that's impossible and he will arrive one way or another soon 😂

After growth scans throughout third trimester and various consultants giving opinions that he's too big or too small or may need to deliver at this date etc, the final consultant has concluded after the final scan things are ok and he's doing fine and I have opted to try and go natural and if nothing, have induction at week 41. Which is great and what I wanted in my gut but I was also just expecting the opposite and expecting them to want to induce earlier etc so it's thrown me a bit.

Anyway, have midwife next week and she said she will be able to do a sweep then but I am just so ready for something to start already 😩😂 first baby though so I know potentially likely to go over 40 weeks.

Hope everyone doing ok!

cruciverbalista · 24/10/2023 08:35

@BeaKind it took a bit for my supply to catch up to his demand so we had been topping off with formula and my husband took on any feeds while I was asleep. Ive started a bit of pumping now so he feeds him pumped milk/formula. We are feeding it by syringe/cup method until the 3 week mark as we were told this would help with fully establishing breastfeeding. I wouldn't say we have a set routine yet by any means but I love having options and not feeling solely responsible to make sure he is fed.
Re sleeping: we have bab in a bedside Moses basket atm as I can't quite bend enough yet post-section for a crib or next to me. I'm far too paranoid for bed sharing.

Ss32 · 24/10/2023 08:48

@BeaKind my first just would not go in her bedside cot no matter how hard we tried. I used to hate when people would comment negatively on co-sleeping as it wasn’t an option for us, she either slept next to me or screamed! I did a lot of research on safe co-sleeping so I felt a bit more confident in it and then was reassured that actually it’s the norm in most of the world!

My second goes in her Moses basket overnight which I am glad of as our 2 year old sometimes ends up with us early morning but we did co-sleep a little the first week, just keep trying 😊

BeaKind · 24/10/2023 08:50

@AlongcameLainey aaah how exciting! Fingers crossed for you.

@cruciverbalista ooh the syringe tip is a really good one. Thank you! Baby is super sleepy atm so might take the opportunity to dust off my old pump and see what I can get. Thank you 😊

BeaKind · 24/10/2023 08:53

@Ss32 I think keep trying is definitely the trick. I’ll just keep moving her closer to the next to me every night and she’ll never notice 😅 🙏

cruciverbalista · 24/10/2023 08:58

@BeaKind syringe plus a finger in the mouth, husband syringes it in to time with baby's sucks so he has to put in a bit of effort 😊

peonygirl · 24/10/2023 09:25

@BeaKind I top up with pre-prepared milk at every feed. I was advised this because he got dehydrated. He is tiny and sometimes cannot pull enough milk out of the breast, then he falls asleep and feeds again, so I ended up feeding more or less all the time. I don't mind that much but post c-section it was hard as I couldn't fully manoeuvre him and he was just not getting enough. I am yet to fully master expressing and plan to top up with my milk after. He likely has a tongue tie so it is hard at present for him to get enough milk from breastfeeding alone. We tried and ended up on paediatrics ward this past weekend.

Regarding sleeping - he does sleep in the side cot or moses basket but he loves sleeping on top of me. Which scares the living s* out of me every night because I am terrified I'd fell asleep and something will happen to him. I am not keen on co-sleeping for that same reason although I tried it as a natural progression from him sleeping on me. During the day I don't mind, I have control over things but at 2am I am not fully present :)

Thinking of you ladies who are yet to meet your little ones. The end of the month is here, it will happen!

ES1986 · 24/10/2023 10:02

Baby boy arrived yesterday by C-section, four days after induction started but just didn’t go to plan. I know a C-section isn’t for everyone but it was amazing and truly the best option for me.

I’m exhausted, but so in love 💙

kingfisher168 · 24/10/2023 10:03

@BeaKind oh yes, what a nice fairy tale I had been telling myself before little one came around - I'll feed the baby, change it, then put in its cot for 3 hours to sleep while I do other stuff / sleep. Not realising baby would only fall and stay asleep on me or near me. So yes, also cosleeping here after doing lots of research and going through bouts of feeling incredibly guilty for it! But we both get a relatively good amount of sleep in the night and the cuddles are just so precious!

Practising one to two naps a day in a carrycot / cot, but taking it easy as still too young to be too far from mama.

doeandfawn · 24/10/2023 10:09

@ES1986 congratulations!! Birthday buddies 🍾 glad you still had a birth you could enjoy.

We’re getting ready to leave the hospital, can’t wait to get this wee one home! He’s taken to bfing really quickly which I’m relieved about but will not sleep off me at the moment.

peonygirl · 24/10/2023 10:22

@doeandfawn enjoy the cuddles, they really are precious. X

@ES1986 congratulations! I agree - I was not keen on c-section with all the needle phobia but it was the right decision for me too. I think that's all that matters really. Enjoy the new wee one!

FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween · 24/10/2023 11:00

@NSx 😂 I definitely didn’t think the name through enough when I made my account!

ttcttc · 24/10/2023 11:34

I've just seen the midwife and my cervix is still closed so the sweep (x2 because the student midwife tried first) was a pointless attempt.

She's booked me in for a induction 40+11 🙃🙂

Smiffette · 24/10/2023 11:49

@BeaKind my first wouldn't sleep in the next to me until she was nearly 2 months and then it was very gradual... so first stint in there than back with me and so on until she stayed in there all night.

My little boy did an hour in there last night then back to being on me which meant a good 4 hour sting, however like others despite having done it before, co-sleeping at this age makes my nervous. I am going to try and do some naps in it soon but just enjoying snuggling in the sofa and contact naps at the moment 🥰

Koalawhala · 24/10/2023 13:23

Congrats @doeandfawn!

Our little girl arrived yesterday very alert and happy after a positive c section experience. Ward life isn’t great and dispensing of painkillers very poor. Really hoping to get home this afternoon

ForeverAndEvers · 24/10/2023 14:08

Congratulations @ES1986 @Koalawhala and @doeandfawn! @Koalawhala I hope you get home soon - I felt so much better once I had.

C section mamas, is anyone aching more on one side? I have one point on the right about an inch above my scar that is really achy. Presuming it's just somewhere that got a bit more bruised.

Koalawhala · 24/10/2023 15:18

@ForeverAndEvers i just had this conversation with a nurse! Apparently it’s usual to get more pain on one side than the other, not sure why though
