does anyone mind sharing what their PAPP-A was? I’ve just been looking on the app and saw mine is 0.56. From what I’ve read above 0.4 is fine but I’m worried anyway

What is your concern?
Mine is 0.35, so although below the 0.4 it’s not anything to be concerned about. I’m having extra growth scans but this is because a number of other factors - uterus didelphys the main one.

Ladies that have pre term birth risks do you know what position your placenter is mines now fundal witch puts me at high risk for pre term. I had fundal with my second n she was 6 weeks early 🙈

I have a high posteria placenta, but as far as I’m aware my preterm risks would have no influence on placenta position.

Evening all, I really don't want to sound stupid but I'm starting to worry that I don't know how to actually look after a baby. Is it normal to feel like that with your first? Don't get me wrong, I've never been so excited for anything, but I'm so nervous that I don't feel I know enough.

Would you say it's best just to read books or are there classes for this sort of thing?

Check with your midwife what antenatal classes they run. These would be free. The alternative would be private classes like NCT. If you google “antenatal classes” and your town, you’ll find other options as NCT has its lovers and haters. It’s my first and I have ZERO clue, but I’m trusting 1) Reading books like “what to expect when you’re expecting” 2) NCT 3) Support from friends and family 4) Natural instincts.
you’ve got this!

PeeBeee · 21/10/2023 20:51

@Mummapenguin20 do you know if theres a difference between fundal and anterior fundal placenta? Just from reading your comment, I remember the sonographer saying mine was fundal but she made out that was ideal? Just went into my green book and the notes are anterior fundal so unless the anterior makes a difference? I am confused lol

Mummapenguin20 · 21/10/2023 21:04

The anterior bit means it’s behind the uterus wall x

@Meeting I have no idea, a friend of mine has a six month old and I've been constantly bombarding her with questions. I'm signed up for antenatal classes at my local health centre but they won't be on for a while yet. I have no idea what to read or what other questions to ask. I have 9 nieces/nephews and looked after them when they were out if the baby stage tonnes so I'm fine afterwards but I've never changed a nappy, never been around anyone who breastfed, don't know how to really do most of the important things. My partner is even less experienced than I am!

Totally normal feeling!

I remember saying to my mum for weeks, how will I know if he's hungry, how will I know if he has a pain? And she always replied, you will just know.
And she was right.

It's weird how your instinct just kicks in.

Shrillwaffle · 22/10/2023 00:28

I just wanted to say that after losing my first baby last year at 23+5 I feel really accomplished to now have made it to 25 weeks and I’m starting to feel positive about this pregnancy 🥰☺️

anony1111 · 22/10/2023 02:22

@Shrillwaffle that's amazing! I hope you can enjoy the rest of your pregnancy. So sorry about your loss last year x

Mangotango39 · 22/10/2023 04:01

@Meeting I have barely even held a baby before so it's safe to say I am terrified haha. I heard something and it has stuck with me
"we think we can't do it and we do it anyway" and I am making that my mum motto!

@Shrillwaffle this is lovely shrill - so happy your feeling this way x

LavenderSweetPea · 22/10/2023 05:53

@Mummapenguin20 mine is posterior (probably why I'm feeling so many thumps from baby!). I think the thing with fundal is because the top of your uterus is where it's weakest your waters are more likely to go early. Your midwife should be able to explain more but my understanding is it's only a teensy tiny fraction more likely to happen then with any other placement.

@Meeting yes I feel like I know nothing! I've already booked NCT that starts in December so I'm hoping that'll take care of my biggest concerns which mostly relate to feeding. I've also got a book a friend gave me but I haven't read it yet. I think it's mostly a figure out what works for you as you go along type thing. You'll never be able to learn everything from a book or a class until you know your own baby.

LavenderSweetPea · 22/10/2023 05:58

Oh my lord @Shrillwaffle so pleased to see your update, congratulations on 25 Weeks mama!

undercoverhero74 · 22/10/2023 07:24

@xTinkerbell mine is 0.21! The midwife seems unconcerned and I just have an additional growth scan at 32 weeks. So far all growth has been normal 😊

Meeting · 22/10/2023 07:51

Thanks everyone it's really comforting to know others are in the same boat! I have a midwife appt next week so will make sure I ask about classes. I'm sure we will all be fine but I'm such an over preparer for everything I do I just need to feel like I know something!

novamama · 22/10/2023 10:34

@Meeting This is also my first, I also booked NCT classes and reading as much as possible. I highly recommend Marie Louise's books:

"The modern midwife's guide to pregnancy, birth and beyond"

and the just released "The modern midwife's guide to the first year"

What I loved about these is that the author is a midwife and mum herself, and also these are recent books, and aligned with current NHS guidelines.

I've also read "The Book you wish your parents had read" but I think it's way too early for it and I'd have to read it again when LO is approaching toddler age.

Hope this is a good start!

PS I am on the go a lot so I actually listen to books, I find it much easier

Shrillwaffle · 22/10/2023 12:49

@Mangotango39 @anony1111 thankyou girls ☺️ my only anxiety really now is giving totally in to being positive because there is still that niggling worry there :/

AllAboardTootToot · 22/10/2023 14:30

22 weeks and the pulling muscle feel gets intense, anyone else the same? Got 20 week scan on Tuesday to see our bubs again ❤️

DmcinT · 22/10/2023 17:42

I’m back to that awful pain around my bellybutton this evening and baby girl is kicking the life out of my bladder 🙈 I’ve also Conked out on the couch 2 days in a row now in the middle of the day so back to day time naps. It must be a bit of a growth around 24 weeks, anyone else finding this around this point?

Shrillwaffle · 22/10/2023 18:18

@DmcinT 100% I swear my girl is kicking my bladder on purpose 😅 I’ve never wee’d so much in my life. And bumps when driving that’s the worst too

CheeseAndCrackersx · 22/10/2023 19:05

Is shoulder pain a concern in later pregnancy?
I know it is when early as a sign of ectopic.
Just wondering if it's a sign of something or just another body part which just aches due to pregnancy? 😄

AllAboardTootToot · 22/10/2023 19:18

Yes! Having similar pains and had a nap last two days, just wee 20 minute power naps but definitely needed!

PeeBeee · 22/10/2023 19:50

@CheeseAndCrackersx it can be a sign of preeclampsia so might be worth getting checked if you dont think you’ve lay funny etc.

i rang eou last pregnancy with pain in my shoulder and they wanted to see me, it turned out it was just another random pain for me but better safe than sorry! X

CheeseAndCrackersx · 22/10/2023 20:17

Oh god @PeeBeee. Thank you, I'll get in touch tomorrow cos I've also been having bad headaches which is also a sign. I hope not 🤞🏻

DmcinT · 22/10/2023 20:24

@Shrillwaffle and @AllAboardTootToot nice to know I’m not alone. Day time naps finished for me about 2 months ago but I couldn’t keep my eyes open last 2 days. We’ll see how work goes tomorr😅
I peed in my car yesterday driving home😭 she was marching up and down constantly on my bladder & id just no control 😬

AllAboardTootToot · 22/10/2023 20:53

Nooooo @DmcinT

Grounded before she’s born 😂

I can’t cough or laugh without a little pre these days 🙈
