@Nclktnntt Ooh please keep us updated with pics! So we can live vicariously through you! How’s the food over there? I find my appetite is still a bit weird!

This gestational diabtetes is getting me down. They told me to collect a monitor so I could take my finger prick bloods, so I did. No idea how to use it. I’ve tried and tried and can’t crack it. I did have an appointment this morning to talk through diagnosis, monitor and speak to a dietician. They cancelled last nights. No idea how I order more lancets/test strips - They didn’t come with many.

I’m also at that very uncomfortable stage - i’m 28 weeks on Thursday. My sleep is awful, i’m up weeing all night and I can barely get out of bed in the morning now.

Mushroo · 19/09/2023 10:22

@Nclktnntt it looks amazing, I’m SO jealous! Hawaii is somewhere I would love to go.

Just had to turn down a work trip to Madrid :(. I think I could have gone in theory but it’s when I’ll be 31 weeks and I’m very aware I was born at 32 weeks due to my mums pre-eclampsia.

Otherwise I’m still feeling pretty good, I’m hoping it continues for a bit longer before I get properly uncomfortable.

My only complaint atm is that my boobs are HUGE and I hate it. I’m normally a 30f anyway but I’ve gone up to 32gg. Nothing fits and I was trying on swimwear for my holiday this week and it just looks ridiculous. I’m really hoping they shrink a bit post breast feeding, need to get back to the gym.

Also have my diabetes test in a couple of weeks, really really hoping it comes back ok. I’ve asked DH to drop me off / pick me in case I feel gross after it

stardust25609 · 19/09/2023 12:26

@VillageFete GD is tough I'm sorry. When I got my diagnosis the hospital gave me a letter to give to my dr, and they ordered the lancets and test strips to my local pharmacy for pick up. Maybe give them a call and see if you can get this letter emailed to you if they've cancelled your appointment? That's such a pain.

Jealous of Hawaii!

FirstMondayInMay · 19/09/2023 12:50

Aah Hawaii looks amazing, somewhere I’ve always wanted to go!

Does anybody know if it’s midnight that you need to fast from for the GTT? I’ve got mine tomorrow but haven’t had any info about it. Can I still drink water before I have the glucose drink?

VillageFete · 19/09/2023 12:59

@FirstMondayInMay I was told 9pm night before.

You can sip some water but don’t drink loads!

@stardust25609 I had a scan booked this morning that they didn’t cancel, so I popped around to FMAU and threw myself at them and begged for help 🤣 They showed me how to use the monitor and said they’ll write to my GP and get a prescription up and running.

Undercoverunicorn · 19/09/2023 13:00

Mine was fasting from 10pm the night before, with a half 9 appointment. Sips of water were allowed.

Mushroo · 19/09/2023 14:05

@FirstMondayInMay mine says this:

17caterpillars1mouse · 19/09/2023 14:55

I think baby must if had another growth spurt, so much stretching discomfort last night and then I woke up with an obviously bigger bump. 30 weeks tomorrow! He's my third but I still keep thinking how much bigger can I get lol.

Is znybody else really suffering with constipation? I didn't have this issue with my other two but between that and reflux I'm really uncomfortable atm

Flowersandfloral · 19/09/2023 14:57

@FirstMondayInMay
I had to fast from midnight the night before and then my appointment ran an hour late! I was dying! But I was allowed and encouraged to drink water at any time. Wasn't allowed to leave the waiting area so definitely take some entertainment!

bookbathnap · 19/09/2023 15:18

I had a growth scan yesterday and they said baby is measuring on the 6th percentile. Also high PI resistance which means the placenta isn’t allowing enough blood flow to the baby. They are going to monitor me over the next 2 weeks with 4 scans to see if the reading comes down. There’s lots of positive stories on Mumsnet about the same thing so I’m trying not to worry. Next appointment is Thursday.

FirstMondayInMay · 19/09/2023 15:33

Thank you all! I’m not looking forward to it tbh, I had a funny turn out shopping last week because I’d just got up and left the house without eating anything☹️

@bookbathnap sounds like they’re taking good care of you both, hopefully baby has a growth spurt over the next couple of weeks!

Daveismyhero · 19/09/2023 15:52

Just found this thread :) I'm due 21st December. Is anyone else suffering with low blood pressure? I just feel so dizzy all of the time :(

RG84 · 19/09/2023 16:43

@VillageFete your midwife should issue you with a letter to give to your GP. Your GP will then prescribe you the lancets and strips etc. The midwife should also send a letter to your GP regarding the GD.
I have to check using the monitor 4 times a day. Again your midwife should of showed you how to use it but also the nurse at your GP will be able to show you how to use it. Hope that helps.

Nclktnntt · 19/09/2023 16:45

Ohh @bookbathnap you're definitely doing the right thing by staying positive and they seem to be keeping a close eye on you so fingers crossed baby has a growth spurt and things improve for you 🤞

Welcome @Daveismyhero im not but strange fact of you didn't already know - the optimal toilet position for humans is squatting, not how we sit so if you have a hoot up or a step up the can lift your knees higher whilst on the toilet, try that. My friend suffered a lot through hers and that helped, along with eating lots of fibre and staying hydrated. Personally im usually regular but im not daily anymore and i'm a little constipated but my body seems to sort it out on day 2 thankfully.

Forgot to say - food wise I'm finding it strange so far. Everything pretty much closes around 8-9pm and it's mostly outdoor restaurants/eateries. I'd class it more like street food almost. There are some restaurants and we might be going to one tonight that's more waited tables and what we would class more like a restaurant. But we have only really had a full day here. I'll update on the food at the end of the week too.

We're on the island of kauai which isn't commercialised like a couple of the others and very traditional here - also known as the best one. Even though it's hot, it's mostly cloudy , so you can get about and not feel like your melting - which is good being pregnant an all 😂 we're off to Waimea canyon today.

If Mumsnet will allow the link - here it is Waimea Canyon State Park

@Nclktnntt Loving the Hawaii updates, loking forward to hearing all about the food 😋

@Daveismyhero Welcome!
@17caterpillars1mouse I'm suffering a bit with on and off constipation at 25 + 4 days and definetly suffering from heartburn/acid reflux (whichever one makes your throat feel like you've swallowed fire). Agree with what @Nclktnntt mentioned - I have a tiny step stool which I find works if constipated.

My next midwife appointment is next week when I'll be 26 weeks + 5 days but not received anything yet about the GD test. Hope I'll hear something next week during my visit.
It doesn't sound like much fun though - I notice now that my stomach starts rumbling in the middle of the night so if I'm not allowed to eat anything for a good 2-3 hours after waking I will not be happy 😕

My bump has definetly grown over the last week or so and can now feel stronger movements and they're up above my belly button (which is now also starting to stick out - freaks me out!).

VillageFete · 19/09/2023 21:19

@RG84 Thank you, i’m seeing my
Midwife tomorrow morning at 9am so will run this all by her.

I’m in work tonight until 2am. I’m freelance so I suppose I may not have the usual rights others have but I wish they’d stop offering me this shift and never any other time. This is my 3rd and final child (after a complicated fertility history) And coming home at 2am and being up at 6:30am for the school run at 28 weeks pregnant is killing me. Granted it’s only a couple of nights per week but it’s leaving me utterly exhausted 😩

99SR · 20/09/2023 20:06

just catching up on the thread, not wrote anything in a few weeks! I’m 27+3 now, can’t believe it. Works getting hard now (work as a nursery nurse).
I have 2.5 weeks annual leave to take so taking that from mid nov and mat leave starting 4th dec. due 16th dec! All coming so quick!

RG84 · 21/09/2023 10:17

@99SR Tell me about! literally walking like a penguin already!
i'm doing the same as you, due on the 18th Dec, however baby will arrive week of the 4th Dec due to c-section so i'll be taking annual leave from the 17th November.

Itonlytakesaminute · 21/09/2023 20:15

Glad everyone is ok
I'm nearly 29 weeks now and struggling with my pelvis.

Is anyone else high risk and having to have blood pressure done every two weeks? I was told it's just procedure but it's a lot!

wannabemum38 · 21/09/2023 22:46

Hope you are having a great time @Nclktnntt
Got my GTT tomorrow am dreading it just want it over with
I'm finding it very hard to get a decent night sleep at all last night was best I'm ages and that's cos I was knackered from going to a Little gig in London.
I find too much walking is causing me pelvic pain now 29 wks tomorrow am guessing it's just part of it all now?!

SMG1992 · 22/09/2023 07:55

I've got some pelvis pain too (I'm 28+1). I'm walking and doing yoga but have given up swimming after 2 months - I just absolutely hate it so can't bring myself to go anymore!

I'm having another tired spell, I fell asleep on the sofa before 9 last night then went to bed about 9.15 and slept until 6.10 (with a few toilet breaks in between) I'm finding my energy levels really drop towards the end of the week and by the weekend I just need to recover.

joyjoy23 · 22/09/2023 08:08

@bookbathnap
Good that they are keeping an eye on you and your little one. Hope you're keeping okay! Remember that measurements are not an exact science and we are all different (size, ethnicity, etc) plus different methods of measuring can often come up with different figures. If your bubba has been fine at previous scans, it's very likely that they'll be fine. 🫶🏻

FirstMondayInMay · 22/09/2023 13:39

@Itonlytakesaminute when I had my booking appt they said I’ll be having 2-weekly bp checks from I think around 32 weeks due to my bmi so I presume it’s standard, depending on your risk factors

they diagnosed me with high bp at 12 weeks though so I have to do it weekly at home instead and have been dipping my urine since 20 weeks

Oldermum84 · 22/09/2023 19:32

@VillageFete hopefully you've cracked the blood glucose monitor now. If not, there are YouTube videos that show how use it. You basically put a lancet in the top of the pen and put the lid on, put a strip in the machine which turns on automatically and then hold the pen against the side of a finger tip and press the button. Squeeze to form a blob of blood and touch it to the end of the strip.

I've really struggled having GD, not had it in my last pregnancy. The diet is so boring but I'm being strict and my numbers are good. I was having to test 7 times a day(!) But had the diabetic clinic yesterday and they said I can go down to 4 times per day due to the good numbers, but if I spike then have to go back to 7 for 24 hours to check I don't spike again.

I also have PGP so am in constant pain, piles, poor blood flow from the placenta, low iron levels and high blood pressure. Not getting enough sleep..tired and hormonal. I'm counting down the next 10 weeks but also dreading the birth due to previous birth trauma.

Basically very fed up!!!
