Hi @gingerbread55 - no nothing further from mine, so think it was just a coincidence- last night though I was getting slight pains below in the base of my uterus (kinda felt like baby was trying to claw their way out with their tiny nails 😂) I'd eaten a big meal and was laughing a lot though last night which set my braxton hicks off to a whole new level and was so uncomfortable. But all seems fine again this morning.

I'm 36 weeks so I want them to hold on a little longer and if they can at least 2 more weeks so I can finish work on the 16th. I'd like at least a few days to relax and watch films and then get annoyed at being bored before they decide to make their entrance though I think 😂

For scars bio oil is amazing. Both my parents have used it for operations they've had recommended by their surgeons. Moms was skin cancer op on her face and the scaring is hardly visible, my dads had both knees replaced and again you can hardly see his scars. So I know for scaring bio oil is highly recommended- not sure when you can start using it though post op.

@smldnlove yes! I have been having cramps on and off for over a week now and as soon as I start to think they are getting stronger they stop 😅 Taking it as a good sign that my body is doing the work but very frustrating to not know if and when it could be the start of early labour

FirstMondayInMay · 03/12/2023 11:20

@smldnlove yes I’ve been getting period pains for the last couple of weeks, some have been really strong and made me think this is really it and then they’ll just stop😅 but the midwife said it’s a good sign that things are starting off and your body is preparing!

Nclktnntt · 03/12/2023 11:28

@smldnlove - I think so? - I say this because I don't actually get period pains, I have no signs I'm due on I just have a feeling and it starts within a couple days - or I start craving chocolate and rubbish 😂

So I've been getting the odd cramp that I usually get when my stomach flips before needing to run to the toilet - are they similar feelings? Because I don't need to go when they're happening just now. Just seems to be the odd one or two then stops altogether. Or I get what u had last night which was slight achy soft pains at the base of my tummy but it lasted an hour or so on and off. Didn't speed up or increase in pain though so I just assumed I ate too much and my laughing fit upset something .

Help please - I'm finally sorting my hospital bag and the nhs site says for baby to pack bodysuit, vests and sleepsuits - what's the difference between bodysuits and vests? I've found that bodysuits have no legs where as sleepsuits have the legs and feet. But it has all 3 listed

What's the difference then between a bodysuit and a vest?

OP posts:
smldnlove · 03/12/2023 12:44

@Nclktnntt Is a vest a short sleeved bodysuit? So no legs and no arms? I have no idea also but have packed basically all of the above just in case!

smldnlove · 03/12/2023 12:46

@FirstMondayInMay @Srs12 Thats reassuring thank you!! Glad it’s not just me and it’s a good sign for labour. Hoping I still have a few weeks before the big day x

Noname112 · 03/12/2023 12:52

@smldnlove also been having this for over a week now. Also feeling quite shivery and almost unwell when it happens. Particularly in the middle of the night. No idea why and don’t remember anything like this with my wee boy. Keep hoping somethings happening 39 weeks today but no idea what’s going on really.

Nclktnntt · 03/12/2023 12:55

@smldnlove that's what I was thinking - best is maybe no arms or legs, body suit is only arms and no legs and a sleep suit is what goes over the top of one of those and has legs, feet and arms. Online a vest and bodysuit seem to be the same thing 🙈

If this is the case I need to buy bodysuits as I don't have long sleeved vests (which is what I thought they were called lol)

Nclktnntt · 03/12/2023 12:57

Also - sorry ladies for all the questions, but how many nappies have you packed? I've put 10 in, I imagine that'd be enough and have a separate bag with more in, just incase we have to stop in longer than planned, so my husband can go and fetch that/bring it in.

OP posts:
Srs12 · 03/12/2023 13:08

@Nclktnntt I have packed a pack of pampers which I think is 12 nappies and then have some extras in a spare bag so sounds about the same as you.
My main concern is I packed my bags a few weeks ago and wasn’t expecting all this snowy weather (I don’t know why since it is December 🤷‍♀️🤣) so now I think I might need to pack some warmer clothes, does anyone know if the labour wards are still warm at this time of year since whenever I have been they have been super stuffy and hot? I have warm clothes, blankets etc for leaving hospital but now I’m doubting myself as to whether I have enough.

FirstMondayInMay · 03/12/2023 14:21

@Srs12 yeah still insanely hot on the labour wards😩 I was my friends birthing partner a few weeks ago and ended up in a strappy vest and leggings after a couple hours!

I’ve packed a couple of fleece sort of material baby grows just incase it’s still really cold when we’re coming home

Noname112 · 03/12/2023 14:52

I wouldn’t worry about packing too many vests. My little one was born November 2021. I barely had vests on him as it was really warm in the hospital and the midwives had him swaddled in a blanket most of the time also was easier to have sleepsuits on that I could open up and do skin to skin without fully undressing him. Definitely want one for coming home though. Don’t think I used any long sleeve vests for him at all till he was a bit older and used them under outfits etc.

Nclktnntt · 03/12/2023 14:52

@Srs12 that sounds about right then as same as you.

The weather is supposed to warm back up my way back to lows of 3-6 by next weekend, I will be putting in my dressing gown for on the ward if I get chilly and fluffy lounge outfit to come home in, I find my lounge outfit really cosy and I can go outside in this weather happily for about 10 mins before I start to feel the cold so I may / may not need my jacket.

For baby I've got 2 thick blankets to put over their car seat when leaving as they can't wear outdoor clothes in the car seat, so I have an airy knitted blanket it it's low 10s and a fleecy type one if it's in the negatives. In the car for when the cars warmed up I have a thin airy one to swap too if it's needed.

ThomasinaLivesHere · 03/12/2023 17:20

@Srs12 I think labour wards are always tropical temperatures so I wouldn’t worry about the baby needing layers in hospital. I’m taking my thin dressing gown as don’t like being too hot.

I’m off work tomorrow so going to finish packing hospital bag then. I’m pretty sure I’ve lost at least some of my mucus plug and feel more pressure below. Luckily no other sensations so hopefully still have a few more weeks to go to whenever my section date will be. Hopefully find out next week. I’ve got just two weeks left of work.

Beans1982 · 03/12/2023 17:26

@smldnlove Same here. Been having mild period-like cramps once or twice a day for the past week (I'm now 36 weeks +2). I've also noticed that my bump has become really hard.

@Nclktnntt I've put 10 nappies in baby's bag as well. I was trying to sort out our hospital bags this afternoon, think I've almost got everything...

  • 10 nappies
  • Cotton wool pads
  • muslin cloths
  • washcloth
  • 5 long sleeved bodysuits (3 newborn size and 2 0-3 months size (just incase he turns out to be a big baby)
  • 4 sleepsuits (2 newborn, 2 0-3 months)
  • hats
  • scratch mittens
  • blanket

I was also confused about the difference between bodysuits and vests - does this mean baby should wear a vest, bodysuit and then a sleepsuit?

ai38 · 03/12/2023 17:39

Hi ladies, it's long time since I last posted here but have been following the thread on and off as much as I could. Congrats to all the mums who already have had their babies and good luck to those with due dates coming up soon.

I am having my C-section on Tuesday, the 5th at 38+3 weeks. They moved forward my section date from 11th as I was diagnosed with (mild)pre-eclampsia recently. The consultant advised to take the baby out right after week 37 because of the risks but the hospital was very slow in brining forward the date and and eventually we ended up losing one week to hospital admin team. I am somehow more relieved that baby has had more time to cook now but can't deny that it has been a really stressful 10 days as I was dreading getting complications from pre-eclampsia while waiting for the hospital to sort out the date change.

afternoontea86 · 03/12/2023 19:05

Hi everyone! 38+3 today and SO ready for her to come. Been so busy the past few days I've not had time to post. I've finished wrapping everything for Christmas and everything is packed for the hospital ready to go. Feeling so done with being pregnant now I just want her out! I've been going on long walks with the dogs to try and get something going but no signs just yet. Not due until the 14th but really hoping she comes early as opposed to late as I don't want a Christmas baby. We're all on the final stretch now!

SMG1992 · 03/12/2023 19:17

hey all, I’ve been having the period cramps too, especially overnight in my back too
i finished work on Friday and since have come down with a lurgy. Also ended up in hospital last night with high temp and reduced movements so it’s been a stressful couple of days.

Nclktnntt · 03/12/2023 19:26

So those of you who've packed your hospital bags - have you used a suitcase, hand luggage case or 2 bags - 1 for you and 1 for baby? I thought a hand luggage case would suffice but it doesn't seem to be. But a large case might be too big.

OP posts:
Nclktnntt · 03/12/2023 19:27

Oh @SMG1992 hope you're feeling better soon, sorry to hear about your hospital visit, you're both ok and home again now?

OP posts:
SMG1992 · 03/12/2023 19:36

@Nclktnntt oh yeah I probably should have said all is well!
I think it’s just because I’m under the weather it made the baby lazy.
they could see on the scan I was having regular (every 5 min) tightenings so hopefully things will be moving along soon 🤞🏼

im repacking my hospital bag tomorrow as I need a bigger bag 😂 I’d rather have too much than too little

gingerbread55 · 03/12/2023 20:38

Regarding hospital bag, always best to be over prepared but in my case last year I used 2 nappies, one vest and a sleep suit, and as I was breastfeeding that's literally it for baby! Daddy came with car seat and blanket for home time.

I laboured through the night and my son was born just after 7am, despite 2nd degree tear and stitches we left hospital at about 5pm that day and ordered dominoes. There was no reason not to and I couldn't have slept there anyway... For me all I used in the end out of my giant suitcase was a fresh pair of loungewear clothes and pads for my pants! Didn't use any of the snacks/drinks and extras - the tea and toast you get afterwards is the best tea and toast of your life - someone told me that and I laughed, but it's true!

ELCS this time so aware of sleeping over which am not happy about - I have crazy bad insomnia already so will be clock watching all night without TV.

afternoontea86 · 03/12/2023 21:14

@SMG1992 Hope everything is all right. Hopefully cramps mean baby is coming soon!

@Nclktnntt I’ve got two large hand luggage bags, one for me for baby. As this is the 3rd I know what I need and what I don’t. With my 1st I definitely had more!!
