@stardust25609 thats great to hear! For me, the known discomfort of a c section that you can plan for seems preferable to all the unknowns of an induction.

It’s so helpful to hear all these ‘real life’ experiences, thank you!

Yer I felt exactly the same honestly. Also I didn't need to do a birth choices thing, just talked about it with the consultant, they told me the risks and booked it in. Maybe it varies by hospital but I think they just want to make sure you're informed, although they make it seem like there are no risks with induction. Remember it's your choice at the end of the day and the NICE guidelines say they have to do a c section if you want it. I just made it clear I thought my body wouldn't be ready at 38 weeks, we had a bad family history of inductions and I didn't want to go through the cascade of interventions and had informed myself of c section risks and they seemed satisfied.

Also happy birth month everyone!! We made it!

Woo-hoo! Soon there will be a lot more babies in our world - good luck this month everyone!

FirstMondayInMay · 01/12/2023 10:43

@stardust25609 how is baby getting on with the Kendamil? I’ve got a tub to try when baby arrives but have seen a few people saying their baby struggles with it being really creamy

99SR · 01/12/2023 11:06

I met with my consultant yesterday, I also have GD! I asked about an elective section and he wasn’t happy lol. He spent about 10 mins going through every risk in a lot of detail!! Then ended it by saying “vaginal delivery is the ideal scenario for you”. I’ve felt so supported by him until now. He thinks I should book in for a sweep, then next Thursday after my scan either another sweep or straight for induction! My fear is that induction takes about 6 days to labour and that will be half of my fiancés paternity leave. Argh!!

happy birth month ladies!

SMG1992 · 01/12/2023 12:04

@Mushroo I know what you mean about it all seeming very real regarding birth, I feel the same.
I want to try to visualise the birth I want to try and help myself relax but I'm struggling with even doing that.
I think we just have to trust in our bodies and the medical professionals and look forward to getting back home after with our babies.

Happy birth month!!

Flowers90 · 01/12/2023 12:11

I also had a growth scan yesterday, but also to check on babys heart rate ect with the SVT. They have said that babys tummy is measuring ahead, but all other measurements ok. Also been suggested to have an induction due to size, however no mention/offer of a c section. They are saying the induction is due to the risk of shoulder dystocia. I was induced with my first and this is the one thing I'd said I wanted to avoid! With everything combined including Baby still having erratic heart rates on the regular ctgs I've been having a c section juat seems like the safest all round option.

She seems to be doing really well on it. I have nothing to compare it to bare in mind! But she's put back on her birth weight already after 5 days which is great, she sleeps well for longish periods. Nice colour, had slight jaundice but it was quickly flushed through. Her poos are also very consistent and yellow, nice loose consistency and easy to come out which I think is more like breast milk poo than typical formula poo which is more brown, that I assume is a good thing? She is quite farty, but not in distress it's coming out ok so that also seems good. Hard to know what's just her and what's the formula, but all signs look good so far.

Nclktnntt · 01/12/2023 14:53

Ohhh that's so good to hear @stardust25609 - we've also chose kendamil.

@FirstMondayInMay One of my clients works in a children's hospital and when we were chatting about formula or breast feeding I said I'm going to formula feed and found a formula that's supposed to be the closest to breast milk and seems well accepted across most babies, with good nappy habits so going to try that, to which she replied 'is that kendamil?' When I said yes, she told me that's what they give their babies on the ward, that's it's accepted well and is the closest to breast milk, used to be Aptimel but is now Kendamil. So that was nice to hear . Some babies might not take to it but it's the same with any milk you try. We've decided organic to start them on but if they struggle will try classic or goats milk before trying another brand altogether I think.

From what I've seen Hipp and kendamil are very similar but if babies don't like kendamil they tend to like hipp or visa versa. So they're my back up to try if baby doesn't get on with kendamil for us.

Holy crap @Mushroo it's birth month 😂 although mine could come late and be in jan. But either way!

Yes, it's becoming very very real. I was sitting this morning and baby moved, as they moved I then felt liquid leak, (not wee) felt more like a period leak, and went to the toilet to check, was clear liquid - it made me wonder if it could be my waters but if they break up top and not below - learnt about it in Antinatal class - but apparently it's like trickles all day especially when baby moves and not had it since. But it did make me think shit - I need to pack my bag 😂

Happy birth month everyone 🤯🥰 not long now!

I am excited and not thinking too much about the birth side - my body has known what to do all through this pregnancy, I'm sure it'll know what to do come the time. Doesn't make it less scary but we need to trust our bodies if nothing else 😊

VillageFete · 01/12/2023 17:32

Hi all,

How crazy that we are in December?

I have had such an awful day with emotions. I’ve cried quite a lot! I feel utterly exhausted and very apprehensive about the coming change. My 4 year old little boy was singing Christmas songs on the way to school this morning, so gorgeous and innocent and I had this terrible guilty feeling. Utterly ridiculous I know, and I know I felt the exact same when my now 14 year old daughter was in this boat when her brother was coming along. I know it’ll all work out and we won’t be able to imagine life without her soon but i’m just having a very hormonal wobble today.

The change is seismic. And the busyness of Christmas and the cold frosty weather which makes the logistics of school runs trickier just seem to be making me feel a bit apprehensive.

This is our 3rd and final child, very much wanted after years of fertility battles but I still feel very scared!

VillageFete · 01/12/2023 17:35

Oh and in the last 24 hours my perfect prep machine has blown up, the heating in my car has packed up and my toilet has broken!! So that is NOT helping my emotions 🙈 Praying I can get the car sorted on Monday.

Noname112 · 01/12/2023 18:07

I joked to my other half that baby was coming today at the start of the week (due date is the 10th). I’ve been feeling crampy and so tired and a bit nauseous for most of the day. Probably means nothing but definitely at the stage of reading too much into every possible little sign 😂. Happy birth month ladies.

Srs12 · 01/12/2023 21:15

@Noname112 I have been feeling exactly the same today too! I have also been over thinking every little twinge, at this stage I can’t help it 🤣Doesn’t help that a lot of early labour symptoms are the same as 3rd trimester symptoms 😅

ThomasinaLivesHere · 01/12/2023 21:56

Happy birth month ☺️!
My due date isn’t until the end of the month but I’m starting to worry a little that baby might come sooner from a few signs. Hospital bag is half packed. I’ll try find time this weekend to finish it.
I wish everyone well this month!

gingerbread55 · 02/12/2023 13:45

Hi, have been following at times. I'm due ELCS on Tuesday 39+2 following traumatic and rapid birth last year (have an 18m old).
Anyone else here having an ELCS? Getting nervous now.

@Nclktnntt saw your comment below re waters. Anything today? That's exactly how mine started last year.

ThomasinaLivesHere · 02/12/2023 13:53

@gingerbread55 I’m down to have a ELCS but don’t yet know date. I go through phases of being nervous and feeling fine about it. Best of luck for yours 😊. Hopefully it will a nice relaxing smooth experience

gingerbread55 · 02/12/2023 15:01

@ThomasinaLivesHere has anyone told you of things you should get to prepare?
I've got a Bbhugme pillow for breastfeeding and general comfort. I'm going to buy some arnica and peppermint capsules today (& tea), got the giant pants, but not sure what else?

Interested in what creams/oils to use on the scar when the time comes, but I guess that'll be weeks away - want to avoid getting a pouch so have bought a belly wrap, which I know is controversial, a waste of money and that I probably won't use it anyway.

ThomasinaLivesHere · 02/12/2023 18:51

@gingerbread55 No one has said anything different to the normal things everyone has in their hospital bag. I’m just using the standard NHS check list found online. It’s probably a question I should ask my midwife next time. I definitely plan to get peppermint capsules too as last time when I had an emergency section I had a terrible pain in my shoulder due to trapped air - which I didn’t know was the the cause at the time as it seems so random. I never used anything for my scar last time and it healed ok so haven’t thought of that. I don’t have anything else to add, you seem more organised than me.

Flower35214 · 02/12/2023 20:01

@gingerbread55 I'm booked in Tuesday too. Feeling really nervous and a bit overwhelmed to be honest. Keep looking at my little boy and feeling awfully guilty knowing how much his life is going to change but I know we'll all adapt etc! Peppermint capsules are a must, they really helped me last time! No idea what else extra I need though, oops.

gingerbread55 · 02/12/2023 20:56

@ThomasinaLivesHere & @Flower35214 glad you both confirmed peppermint caps!
Any tips to avoid c-section pouch? I must sound awfully vain but every part of me got destroyed last time round and my tummy going back flat (with diet) was the only thing that went back to how it was. Even my feet stayed bigger! 😂 so am very keen to hold onto this.

@Flower35214 how old is your LO? I'm really anxious about this too. I keep looking at him and he's totally oblivious to what's coming, has no idea I have a baby in my tummy as he's too tiny himself to understand - but he's used to it just being the 3 of us. Breaks my heart!

Flower35214 · 03/12/2023 02:44

@gingerbread55 I have no tips for the pouch unfortunately sorry! I'm useless with that kind of thing haha. My boy is 2 and a half, so he has some understanding. He's been waking up at 2am asking for cuddles the last 3 days after sleeping through for the last 6 months which isn't helpful but there we go!

VillageFete · 03/12/2023 07:56

@gingerbread55 Oh the dreaded overhang/pouch 😭 I’m really worried about this and have been looking at C section scar massage but can’t find anyone in my local area that does it. I read that can help- but how true it is, I don’t know. I can already see the loose skin/overhang.

This is my 3rd (And final) section. I’m having tubal litigation during it, but really keen to try and sort the the damage it’ll do to my stomach muscles 🙈 I’m already under physio for pelvic floor issues so maybe they’ll be able to help me. I’ve also heard great things, post C section, about a “Mummy MOT” Have a Google and see where does them in your area. Apparently they’re quite popular.

smldnlove · 03/12/2023 08:12

Anyone else having daily period style cramps at the moment? Had them off and on last night all evening and was convinced it was labour but nothing this morning yet. 37+1 and praying for more time so I can get to mat leave on Thursday and a bloody rest! 😂
