Hi all, I couldn't see a new thread and the last one looks full so starting part 6. Hope that's ok! Have tagged as many people as I could, really sorry if I forget anyone.

That's great news @Bims2019 What a relief!

Glad your scan went well @buckingmad

Gremlin84 · 22/08/2023 17:18

@Bims2019 So pleased that they came back with good news for you!
@buckingmad glad you also got an all clear scan!

Looked back at my notes and I am in the anterior placenta club, but it's up and out of the way thankfully.

FirstT1meMum · 22/08/2023 17:23

Just back from my 20 week scan. All seems to be okay but they couldn't see her kidneys or measure her arms so I need to go for another scan next week. I wish the report was a little bit more user friendly! I have no idea what any of the jargon means+

Luhou · 22/08/2023 17:41

@Bims2019 what a relief for you. Pleased to hear it's not a major concern.

Hummusanddipdip · 22/08/2023 18:09

It's great when they play ball isn't it @FirstT1meMum I'm sure the kidneys will be easily spotted and she'll allow arm measurements.
Have you been given a day to go back or have they just said they'll be in touch?
I gave up trying to understand anything with ds, just that he was growing and everything was there.

Good news @Gremlin84 hopefully they'll tell me the same tomorrow.

buckingmad · 22/08/2023 18:19

ive got a sweep booked in for 2nd jan. Weirdly excited 😂 they said I could have one at 38 weeks but that is Christmas so I declined.

BP has dropped even more 🙄 85/50. Nothing I can do except snack and drink lots which I’m doing already.

Luhou · 22/08/2023 18:31

Anybody had any changes to vision. This evening I'm really struggling with back back and shoulder pain.

When I look straight ahead I can see a black squigly area at the top of my line of site, as if something is hanging down from my head. I am a bit worried to be honest - do you think I should be?

MJGGG · 22/08/2023 18:38

I have a bit of blurred vision and a floater. Had an eye test and OCT scan. The results were fine apart from I have become short-sighted in pregnancy and need a stronger lense prescription. The ophthalmologist said it is normal for a floater and blurred vision in pregnancy. So long as there are no other symptoms of pre-eclampsia, hypertension, diabetes

Luhou · 22/08/2023 18:42

Thanks @MJGGG. I'll keep a close eye out for any other symptoms.

Booklover88 · 22/08/2023 19:41

@PartRadish haven’t been through all the posts (I’m not very good at keeping up on these threads!) but think we’re in a similar boat. I’m on progesterone for a shortened cervix and having regular scans (I’ve had three in the last week!) fortunately things seem to have settled down and I don’t have to go back for another two weeks. Also on a sex ban but fortunately have been told I can exercise as normal. Just wanted to message to offer solidarity!

Mummyme87 · 22/08/2023 20:07

@Luhou would recommend seeing an optician. Common for eyes to deteriorate in pregnancy

Luhou · 22/08/2023 20:15

Thanks @Mummyme87 I think I'm due one anyway, will get booked up.

FirstT1meMum · 22/08/2023 20:23

@Hummusanddipdip They did say all the babies this afternoon have been cheeky 🤣
They gave me next Friday, just need to check some other appointments as it's not my usual place so it's a bit further a field!

Kalodin · 22/08/2023 20:49

If you see your MW before the next scan ask her how to interpret it, or ask the sonographer @FirstT1meMum - I had weekly scans with DS3 and this one (although that's just changed to fortnightly as cervix is looking good) and ended up talking to the sonograohers about it all, they were really happy to share that knowledge. Likewise with the traces, when we all get to that stage where we get babies monitored (if need be), just ask the MW or HCA what it all means and usually they'll happily explain it all.

Kalodin · 22/08/2023 20:51

Sqeep booking in already @buckingmad ! Feels forever away. Will go quick though.

I'm in the opposite situation with you and BP, mine keeps floating upwards!

Bims2019 · 22/08/2023 21:39

@FirstT1meMum I'm with you on the notes, I know they're not really written for us but they're confusing! Glad your scan went well, and hope they can get everything they need at the next one.

Random question - is the 20 week scan the last one we get on the NHS, assuming no complications or need for extra ones? Not sure how I'm going to last until end of pregnancy without seeing them again!

Felt baby's first proper kick tonight at 21 weeks, and DH felt it too 😭 it was quite emotional

Redpanda21 · 22/08/2023 21:56

I’m with @Mummyme87 with the Boots maternity pads, like sitting on a cushion. I’ll be getting those again

Mummyme87 · 22/08/2023 22:34

@Bims2019 depends on your trust. Mine do 36wk scan routinely but it’s not common

Onedayatatime24 · 23/08/2023 06:32

@Bims2019 our trust doesn't do any scans after 20 weeks! I get a couple at 32 and 36 weeks but not normal if you're having an otherwise uncomplicated pregnancy! I guess they just take movements as a sign everything's all good? I do think it's crazy there are no more as standard though!!

lilluce95 · 23/08/2023 08:13

@Bims2019 I agree I think it's dependent on your trust - mine dont do scans after 20 weeks if the pregnancy is uncomplicated.

How lovely r.e the kicking 🥰 I'm 18w and still haven't felt anything at all, I do have an anterior placenta though which is probably why!

EL27 · 23/08/2023 08:42

Hey all got my scan today 20+5 today! Afterwards (all being well) we will be going in to town to look at baby things! I haven't bought anything yet and am feeling a bit overwhelmed when researching all the stuff we need. (First baby 😅)

Anyone else not bought anything yet? I will be popping in to Mamas and Papas and John Lewis to look and feel of the prams - not planning on buying one today though. I am hoping to be picking up some baby clothes, just don't know what sizes/styles to get? Any advice appreciated 😁

WitcheryDivine · 23/08/2023 08:46

Ooh missed the new thread. Well tbh I was avoiding it all as so nervous about scan but had it yesterday and all looking fine at the moment thank goodness. So cool to see their face and them generally looking like a person!!!

I don’t usually go to primark as it’s hell in there but they had a maternity stuff sale on the other day and I got a lovely dress. They had pyjamas and things as well. Bought some tights but they were SO tight over the bump I prefer my regular ones for now!

Salamander91 · 23/08/2023 09:19

I think my trust only does scans after 20 weeks if there's concerns. Scans every 4 weeks is the only bonus to me being diabetic lol that and being first on the list for csections 😂

Mushroo · 23/08/2023 09:25

@EL27 were going baby shopping this evening properly for the first time and I’m 21 and a half weeks. We bought a little baby grow after the 20 week scan :)

Still don’t feel ready to buy the big stuff yet but I’ve booked in for a John Lewis consultation thing (it’s free) so I’m hoping I’ll feel a bit more confident after that!

I’ve heard to get a mix of clothes sizes as you won’t know it if you have a big or small baby, and it’s easy enough to buy more newborn stuff if you need it.

I keep forgetting stuff like a baby bath, hoping they’ll give us a list we can work through.
My mum works at boots so she’s been buying us nappies and stuff with her discount which is super handy.

The other top tip someone told me was get some pram mitts or heavy duty gloves, as pushing the pram in January you’ll get freezing hands! I might ask for some nice ones for my birthday in a few weeks.

Hummusanddipdip · 23/08/2023 09:35

OK, so baby brain really has struck me 🤦‍♀️ all last week I was saying it's my 20 week scan today... nope it's my first consultant appointment.
