@Mummyme87 on the subject of stripes, why are so many maternity tops stripey?!?!
I'll definitely have a look on that site though, people keep asking for ideas of what they can buy.
Only my mum has told us she'll buy something later as everyone buys stuff at the beginning!

EL27 · 21/08/2023 21:06

Has anyone else found there boobs/nipples have changed a lot recently? Im just over 20 weeks and looked in the mirror earlier and oh my god I didn't recognise them! They look more full in the sides? areola looks bigger and way darker 😳 I'm guessing this is completely normal!?

On the topic of sex, I found since we were trying for so long it became a bit of a chore. It was nice to have a bit of a break from it in the first trimester as I felt so nauseaous anyway. We are getting back in to it now, only when I feel up to it though😂😂

MJGGG · 21/08/2023 21:38

Is anyone experiencing fanny daggers/lightning crotch and worse growing pains? I'm currently 18/40

Mummyme87 · 21/08/2023 22:12

@EL27 yea I know that feeling, took us 19months and having two young kids already, it’s been a welcome break!!!

my hip gave up on me today. Was walking on the high street and my right hip was so painful, all under my bum, through my public bone, round the side. Had to hold on to my 9yr old then have a sit down. Can still feel it now just not as bad. Joy

Mushroo · 21/08/2023 22:24

Just to say I had my anti-D injection today following the light bleeding over the weekend and it was absolutely fine.

Id read in a few places it was going to be huge and painful and it was just like a normal injection.

I had it in my thigh (you can have it in your arm if you prefer) but it I doesn’t ache at all.

So if any Rhesus negative ladies are worried about it, don’t be :)

Luhou · 22/08/2023 07:06

@EL27 yes to nipple changes. Mine will not stop itching either. Was sat at my desk yesterday trying to discretely scratch them!

Mummyme87 · 22/08/2023 07:16

I was in boots yesterday and they have a parent a baby sale, 15% off mothercare clothes and also general discounts. I got a pack of maternity pads for 89p, boots own. They were my favourite after trying a few with previous babies.

Onedayatatime24 · 22/08/2023 07:28

@MJGGG yes! I've definitely had more pains and twinges in the last couple of weeks (I'm 19+2 now). And a general ache down there especially when I get in bed.

Sunflowerfields23 · 22/08/2023 08:08

Also marking my place :)

MrsJ6921 · 22/08/2023 08:32

@Mummyme87 I’ve bought quite a few bits from boots in terms of the mothercare clothes and they’re lovely. Plus you get your little free gifts and extra points with the parenting club.

Luhou · 22/08/2023 09:15

These aches and pains people are describing how much do you find they're actually effecting you? I am struggling with day to day. I'm not in pain, but just like constant discomfort. Is this normal?

sashastuck · 22/08/2023 09:27

@EL27 yes to the nipples. Darker and larger!

@MJGGG how would you describe the growing pains? Last night I had what felt like a tummy ache but high up. Googled it and it said braxton hicks?! But I thought it’d be too early. Anyway this morning I haven’t felt baby so now I’m worrying as always 😂
How do the growing pains feel?

TunnocksTCake · 22/08/2023 10:37

@Matildahoney I have always wondered this, Stripes make you look bigger so not ideal in pregnancy I would have thought... but it seems unavoidable!

I woke up screaming in the night with crmap last ngiht, both calves and felt like it took an age to go away. not the first time I've had it but defnitely the worst. Poor DH was terrified bless him, but once he knew what it was he was rubbing my legs for me, he used to get it all the time being a chef on his feet all day long. Anyone else getting this or know a cure?

Thanks for the boots tip @Mummyme87 I am waiting til after scan on friday to do any purchasing but love their clothes so will take a look.

Gremlin84 · 22/08/2023 11:00

Scan this morning - baby wouldn’t behave for the last bit so had to empty bladder and go for a walk about to see heart and lungs. Total appointment time 1h 15 😬 doctor for next appointment (was supposed to be 9.30) asked why I was so late! Misbehaving baby is a great excuse though, not my fault at all.

All is fine though, and we found out what we’re having but keeping it as our own little secret.

How do the growing pains feel?

Cramping pain about 3-4cm below the belly button and at the sides. And sharp pains on and off in the vagina and cervix. Felt a pressure down there for a short while. I have not had anything today. I haven't felt any obvious flutters or movement yet.

FirstT1meMum · 22/08/2023 12:02

@Gremlin84 glad all went well! Have mine this afternoon and trying to keep myself occupied to stop any anxiety!

@sashastuck I don't think I've felt anything since yesterday afternoon so with you on the worrying! Hoping she's just moved further back or something! I've been getting like a really dull ache low down on my right hand side and had some pressure down last night! It's been coming and going since the weekend and I only notice when I stand up, hoping it's just growing pains and not pelvic girdle!

PartRadish · 22/08/2023 13:23

Just had my 3rd cervical length scan. It's got a bit shorter again but they're not worried right now, it's still an acceptable length for 19 weeks. They were more concerned about the placenta, apparently I have placenta previa. Their main concern seemed to be if my cervix continues to shorten and they want to put in a stitch it can complicate that apparently, it doesn't rule it out but it's an added complication we could do without really! They did say 95% of the time it moves before term but obviously we might not have that sort of time to wait.

I'm back in Thursday for my anomaly scan so they said they'll have a more detailed look then and the Consultant will speak to us again afterwards.

Advice was go home, do as little as possible, stay hydrated and eat as much as I fancy because they want some weight on this baby incase she does come sooner rather than later.

I've tried not to think too much about what might happen and just take things a week at a time but I feel very aware today that my 6 year old was born just over 3 weeks after my anomaly scan with him. All feels a bit serious/scary today.

suz2285 · 22/08/2023 13:27

@Luhou I'd say mine is discomfort too, I've no idea what I'm meant to be feeling, feels like baby is down low today, I feel like my whole tummy is heavy... with the odd twinge and crampy feelings...

Does anyone know if they look at cervix length at the anomaly scan? I don't have any previous risk factors but I'm just paranoid about everything, esp in the few days before the scan 😂

PartRadish · 22/08/2023 13:52

@suz2285 Some trusts do but they're in the minority. Ours don't and without known risk factors they wouldn't do it. Babybond do offer them privately but a one off measurement would really tell you very little.

If it helps Cervical Insufficiency is incredibly rare though, thought to affect about 1% of pregnancies and the vast majority of those will be women with previous surgery etc.

suz2285 · 22/08/2023 15:16

@PartRadish thanks, that's what I thought, everything is just a constant worry 😂

buckingmad · 22/08/2023 15:18

20 week scan all good. Everything as it should be, anterior placenta up and out of the way and definitely a girl! Just waiting to see the consultant now.

Bims2019 · 22/08/2023 16:10

Thanks everyone for all your kind words yesterday, you're a lovely bunch. I had a follow up call from the screening midwife this afternoon, and she said the other hospital don't need to see us for any further scans. Apparently this heart thing (basically a murmur) is seen in a lot of babies and often corrects itself after birth when the baby starts breathing. So we just go back to routine care, and they've put a note on file to do a thorough check after baby's born. Then if any further intervention is needed they'll review. Feeling very relieved that it seems to be quite common, definitely could have done without the worry but feeling much better today.

@buckingmad @Gremlin84 glad all was well with your scans!

@PartRadish sorry you're going through the worry, hope you get some more answers on Thursday. As always, it's easier said than done but hope you can relax and take some time for yourself. It's good that they're monitoring you closely but completely appreciate how worrying it can be.

Forgot to say we also managed to stay team yellow yesterday! Though apparently baby's legs were crossed so we might not have been able to find out anyway 😂
