Thanks both. I’ll give them a ring. She’ll happily sit on DH’s lap with peppa on the phone and if she did kick off DH would of course take her out.

As a last resort I do have DH’s gran but she’s in her late 80’s and although very active and with it I just don’t feel happy leaving an active 2 year old with her! I suppose worst case I’ll go alone and we’ll book a private so DH can see her again. Rubbish timing!

Hummusanddipdip · 21/08/2023 07:43

Ditto to others, our trust says no, but when I had ds there was a couple there who had a child, dad sat in the waiting room with the child.
There is a curtain in the room covering the space between the door and the scanning area, so maybe once they've completed the anomaly part, dh might be able to come in and dc stay behind the curtain?

I assume they don't allow children incase there is bad news? Or is it just because it's a medical appointment and not appropriate?

@Hummusanddipdip i assume both, last thing the sonographer wants is a tantrum whilst they’re concentrating plus if there was bad news DH would want to give me his full attention. I really don’t want to take her but I also don’t want DH to miss out! Ugh!

Mummyme87 · 21/08/2023 08:41

I think it’s about it being an appt to check for anomalies and lots of people think it’s to find out the sex and see the baby again. Give them a call, it may be a case of dad needs to be childcare so can’t come in. They may let him come in at the end once everything’s done

FirstT1meMum · 21/08/2023 08:55

@PartRadish that sounds like torture!! Feel for you!! I definitely remember (and feeling) that phase for Rachel 🤣🤣

Good luck to all with scans today! Mines tomorrow afternoon so made a list of jobs to work through to keep me occupied between now and then!! We've also started playing baby or bowel to try and take off some of the stress I was feeling about movements!

Anyone else feeling a bit overwhelmed with the fact christmas stuff is now in the shops? I know it's still a while off but seeing it is rather daunting, it seemed to be everywhere this weekend! 🤣🙈

PartRadish · 21/08/2023 09:28

@Kalodin Basically all sexual activity! I have an irritable uturus and a crappy cervix and the Consultant thinks the constant tightenings is part of the reason for my cervix shortening/opening early, and orgasms do set off ferocious tightenings for me so I know he's right and they're best avoided but still, I'm not happy about it 😅

sashastuck · 21/08/2023 09:41

Best of luck for your scan today @Bims2019 hope it goes well!!

@Matildahoney have you tried Sainsburys for unisex clothes? My mum bought a few bits from there yesterday age 3-6 months, for my boy but they do look unisex (in fact my DP thinks they look too girly, I don’t though).

My friend had her baby last night and now it feels VERY real! I was also really irrationally concerned that we’d have picked the same baby name but panic over 😍😂

sashastuck · 21/08/2023 09:46

Just seen a thread on the pregnancy board that’s got me worrying, wondering if anyone’s got any experience or advice -

DP accepted a job offer the day before we found out we were pregnant, starts in September (also a teacher) - does this mean by Jan he won’t have been there long enough to get paternity leave?! Not sure why that hasn’t crossed my mind yet! He did email his new head to ask about it 2 weeks ago and hasn’t received a response. Anyone else got a teacher partner who might know?

buckingmad · 21/08/2023 10:00

@sashastuck
Eligibility
Employees must be one of the following, the:

  • father
  • husband or partner of the mother (or adopter)
  • child’s adopter
  • intended parent (if they’re having a baby through a surrogacy arrangement)
Employees must also:
  • be classed as an employee (paternity leave only)
  • be employed by you up to the date the child is born (or placed with the adopter) (paternity pay only)
  • be on your payroll and earn at least £123 a week (gross) in an 8 week ‘relevant period’ (paternity pay only)
  • give you the correct notice
  • be taking time off to look after the child or their partner
  • be responsible for the child’s upbringing
  • have been continuously employed by you for at least 26 weeks up to any day in the ‘qualifying week’
If your employee usually earns an average of £123 or more a week, and they only earned less in some weeks because they were paid but not working (‘on furlough’) under the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, they may still be eligible. The qualifying week is the 15th week before the baby is due. This is different if the employee is adopting. Use the paternity pay calculator to check an employee’s eligibility and work out their relevant period, notice period and paternity pay. There are special rules for some employee situations, for example if they leave or become sick.

If you type in the dates on the calculator then you can see when he would have needed to start work but I think unfortunately you are probably way out. I'm out of the window for stat mat pay which is worked out the same and I started my job in mid June. You essentially need to start basically as you fall pregnant to qualify.

Continuous employment

Employees working for one employer without a break, employments rights for continuous services, breaks that do not affect continuous service

Hummusanddipdip · 21/08/2023 10:24

I think I've just cracked... laying on the sofa and felt bump shift to the right, like when gas rumbles across your belly (always been on the left, my uterus is left tilted, even ds was pretty much to the left) rubbed the hard bump and said "what you doing over there this morning" another rumbley sensation followed and now the bump has totally shrunk back in and my tummy is soft to touch again 🤦‍♀️ am I losing my mind?

How scans go well today @Bims2019 and @buckingmad

Matildahoney · 21/08/2023 10:46

@sashastuck I might venture to the large Sainsbury's near me, probably late one evening as I hate supermarkets with a passion and have far less patience than normal!!!

Bims2019 · 21/08/2023 11:27

Thanks for the good wishes everyone, scan mostly went well except the sonographer kept going back to the heart. After a while he got a colleague in to have a look and they explained that there may be something not quite right with one of the septums, which while probably fine they felt was best to be checked by a specialist at another hospital. They have sent pictures over to them, so now we have to wait and see if they think it's just a small variation that can happen and will probably correct itself, or if we need to go in for a closer scan.

I know it's probably nothing and even if it is something it's likely to be only small, but I've got myself really upset over it. Think I'd got used to everything being ok so far, so it's floored me a bit. And after the IVF we really didn't need any more worry! But hopefully we'll hear something tomorrow so won't be waiting too long. Sorry to bring the mood down, hope everyone else has good scans and is ok 🙂

Hummusanddipdip · 21/08/2023 11:38

Everything crossed that it comes back as nothing to worry about and just that the sonographer wanted to be extra cautious.

Try not to worry too much and relax as much as possible (I know easier said that done)

sashastuck · 21/08/2023 11:46

@buckingmad Thank you! What a pain, especially for your mat leave as well. Good luck for your scan today, must have missed that message!

@Bims2019 I second Hummus - hopefully it will correct itself, if it even is an issue. Sure if it was more serious they’d have told you that as well. Fingers crossed, try not to stress too much ❤️❤️

buckingmad · 21/08/2023 11:50

@Bims2019 fingers crossed it's nothing to worry about xx

@sashastuck yeah luckily mat leave takes in to account previous employment so I'm entitled to my full year, but I get stat mat allowance rather than pay which is only slightly less. But from reading that link I think unfortunately paternity leave doesn't take into account previous employment!

Going to be very different this time round compared to my last mat leave where I got 100% pay for 6 weeks then 50% for the rest.

Hopefully your DH's new job are reasonable and let him have the time off anyway, although appreciate working in a school is a little less flexible!

Scan is tomorrow! Excited/nervous!

Bims2019 · 21/08/2023 12:04

@Hummusanddipdip @sashastuck @buckingmad thank you, I think you're right that they were just trying to be extra cautious. Trying to relax and take my mind off it today which is really not easy!

TunnocksTCake · 21/08/2023 12:04

@Bims2019 hope you hear back quickly and al is fine 🤞🏻 can totally understand that flooring you, be kind to yourself. X

I am so achey and heavy feeling it is unreal. Anomaly scan on Friday and getting really impatient/ having awful dreams where something is wrong so not sleeping well. Eugh hate waiting!

Hope all the other scans this week go well! 💕

Dannic2018 · 21/08/2023 12:05

@Bims2019 sending love ❤️
good luck with everyone else today

Kalodin · 21/08/2023 12:16

Thank you @Hummusanddipdip ! Shall give this a go when back home

On the scan and no children.... I do wonder as well if its for the other women there too, no one knows what others are going to hear during those scans.

I'm so excited by it all @FirstT1meMum I adore autumn and winter celebrations!

Ah noooo @PartRadish I had that during my previous pregnancy, an irritable uterus. I actually didn't know about the orgasms being a potential issue! I was told no intercourse but didn't think it meant a total ban oops! I do know what you mean by the intensification of them during pregnancy, is odd how much its felt in the uterus isn't it!

So sorry about that concern @Bims2019 ! Really shit to have to wait too to find out more, hope all is okay.

Mummyme87 · 21/08/2023 13:08

Fingers crossed you hear soon @Bims2019 and it’s either a variation of normal or something that will rectify itself.

Matildahoney · 21/08/2023 13:20

Lots of love @Bims2019 hope you get some answers soon xx

Onedayatatime24 · 21/08/2023 13:26

Hope you're not waiting long for answers @Bims2019, sending hugs!

Next have some lovely unisex bits in, not cheap but they usually have an autumn sale so hoping to get lots of bits in that.

Hummusanddipdip · 21/08/2023 13:32

Matalan have some nice neutrals in at the moment, but also lots of definite "pink = girl" and "blue = boy" stuff too, so you need to search

Mummyme87 · 21/08/2023 14:36

Polarn o pyret have lush stuff that I seem as unisex, not cheap but always have a 20% off everything sale a few times in the year. They stretch aswell so last ages. Their trademark ones are red/white stripes, navy/white stripes, grey/white stripes plus solid colours. Fab quality also

LittleAlien24 · 21/08/2023 16:03

@Bims2019 hope you don't have to wait for long. probably it's just a precaution. But if there's something it's better to know now even if it's only small small issue

Sex hmm what is sex 😂 had it last day or so before we found out im pregnant and probably won't have it again until after he's born lol well it's hard to do anything while we in different countries lol
