Had my 24 week midwife appointment today and had to spend the morning in triage.

Babys heartbeat was slightly high (166bpm) but triage said it was all fine.

A stressful couple of hours!

Mummyme87 · 15/09/2023 13:42

Ah sorry you ended up in triage @Mushroo 166bpm is a lovely normal HR for 24weeks ❤️❤️

I think I’ll start putting on weight now. Up until 2weeks ago when I last weighed, I had put on 2lb. But my appetite has increased since then massively!!

lucya66 · 15/09/2023 13:57

Yes I’ve put on a lot of weight I’m the heaviest I’ve ever been! 25 weeks tomorrow and gained a stone. I’m eating a lot more than normal but I don’t feel guilty! I want a big chubby baby haha.

Mushroo · 15/09/2023 14:02

@Mummyme87 thank you 🥰 always nice to get another opinion on these things.

My weight is trickling up now as well, id only gained about 4 pounds at 20 weeks but up to 8 pounds now. Still on the lower end but seem to be on about a pound a week trajectory which I’m happy with.

Vikki7 · 15/09/2023 14:05

Wow, after looking at the thread this morning, I decided to weigh myself and have put on an incredible 7kg! I had no idea! Pretty sure that should be about the correct weight gain for 36-ish weeks, not 24!

RG9895 · 15/09/2023 14:10

This is making me feel a bit better as I am almost 24 weeks and have put on almost a stone and a half!

Redpanda21 · 15/09/2023 15:31

I’ve gained 300g but I started the pregnancy 14kg heavier than my last pregnancy.

My hunger has increased this week so think I’ll start putting on the weight now

Onedayatatime24 · 15/09/2023 16:13

I checked last week at 22 weeks and I've put on 5lbs (2kg ish) so far. I have a high BMI so was on the bigger side to begin with anyway and have been told to try and reduce weight gain as much as possible (without going hungry). However my appetite has been huge this past week, really craving chocolate and sweets!! Need to reign it in really. 😬 Also getting to a point where I'm more uncomfortable and exercise really tires me out. Been managing so far but I realllyyyyy can't be bothered anymore. Still trying to go but it's a struggle!

buckingmad · 15/09/2023 16:57

I have a bit of an unhealthy relationship with my weight so not weighed myself since my booking appointment where I was 8 stone. With my first DD I went from 7.5 to 10.5 stone which I really struggled with mentally.

Im hoping I don’t put quite as much on this time but at least I know I can get back down to a weight I’m happy with. Although it probably will be harder with 2 than it was with 1!

Flossiepot · 15/09/2023 17:29

Anyone who's on aspirin - I have a couple of departments looking after me so they've all finally agreed I can and should take it (alsmost 24 weeks) do you dissolve both tablets in the same cup of water? I've had no instructions so not sure if the water should be measured?

Lightningrain · 15/09/2023 17:33

@Flossiepot I didn’t know either so started off dissolving them in a very small amount of water as I hate the taste. I found they took an age to dissolve though and ended up just swallowing them like a non-dissolvable tablet. I know someone that’s taken them for years and she dissolves them in half a small glass of water.

Since the pack I got given at the hospital I’ve just bought the non-dissolvable ones from the supermarket instead.

WitcheryDivine · 15/09/2023 17:45

Hi Flossiepot - yeah I just chuck mine in a small glass of water, wait for them to dissolve then swirl them and down it.

It doesn't really matter how you take them as long as it's the right dosage and the right time of day (mine's the evening for some reason).

I don't have a scales and don't really want to start weighing myself unless someone tells me I have to.

Redpanda21 · 15/09/2023 18:17

Mine aren’t dispersible ones. I just buy the ones from B&M and swallow two everyday

Matildahoney · 15/09/2023 18:41

@Flossiepot I use the tiniest bit of water to get them down as I hate the taste, my dad just takes them under his tongue, I tried not dissolving them (accidentally as I'd bought some that weren't dispersible before) but got major heartburn.
My consultant advised they work better if you take them at night, so I always take mine after dinner.

Dannic2018 · 15/09/2023 19:04

Hi all,
I am feeling a bit anxious as my 2 local hospitals have had the CQC inspection for Maternity and both are inadequate 😩
It would be too far to travel to another hospital to be honest. What would you do?

FirstT1meMum · 15/09/2023 19:14

@Dannic2018 no real advice but literally the week after we told the midwife our preferred hospital (closest to is, does have some amazing units ect) was in the paper for the maternity unit being downgraded to inadequate. It definitely seems like a very common thing however we were very worried!

sashastuck · 15/09/2023 19:15

I think I remember @Mummyme87 saying that my hospital (where she works) was also rated as such. I’m not sure how anyone else would feel about it but for me I’m still really happy with the hospital and care so far and have heard mostly good reviews so I’m not concerned (perhaps that’s naive). Could you do some googling or mumsnet research and see if the general consensus is that people are happy with it in recent years? Sorry that it’s a worry for you x

Luhou · 15/09/2023 19:34

Also faced with two inadequate hospitals. One of which has been in the news a lot recently. I am just hoping for the best. I had a bad experience there with my DD and I have a lot of unresolvwd anxiety about giving birth again. Not sure how to deal with it tbh. Debating elective c section.

Mushroo · 15/09/2023 19:36

@Dannic2018 this has happened to me but there’s not really any other local feasible options!

I am a bit worried I won’t lie, but all the care I’ve received so far has been really good (and I’ve been in triage twice) so I’m focusing on that.

My other plan is making sure my DH can be a strong advocate if needed due to staffing issues / we end up being ignored. Not ideal but hoping it won’t come to that

xLJ1990x · 15/09/2023 19:51

Thank you for all the responses about weight :) it's reassuring that I'm not the only one who has put more on than recommended! I've been hungrier than normal for almost the entire pregnancy too

Mummyme87 · 15/09/2023 21:36

Over 50% of maternity units are now rated as inadequate by CQC. I don’t rate CQC at all, my trust have been able to come back on alot of the points and proved they aren’t correct, and the rest of it was about senior management and trust execs. Staffing is a chronic issue everywhere, nowhere is well staffed anywhere at all as there’s a massive chronic shortage nationwide.
I wouldn’t use CQC rating as an assessment of a unit

Dannic2018 · 15/09/2023 23:04

Thank you ladies and @Mummyme87 thank you that’s reassuring coming from
a midwife. I have a friend who works for the trust bit didn’t want to message and give her extra stress. I guess my only worry is apart from the EPU I’ve not had any dealings in the maternity units at either hospitals, as when I had my two older a more local hospital was then open but that has now closed. Just got to keep positive and they have posted a video showing that they have made significant changes and we should not worry, just hard to not have anxiety over some things x

Mummyme87 · 16/09/2023 06:35

It is hard not to worry @Dannic2018 and you will read good and bad reviews everywhere about a unit. Not everyone will be happy with their experience for a multitude of reasons

Kalodin · 16/09/2023 09:42

Like others have said @Dannic2018 A lot are rated low now and a lot of that is shortage of staffing. Can you find out in what those hospitals are struggling with? I know my local hospital (that I've opted not to go to) as problems with infection control, spotting sepsis and shortage of staff. Those things matter to me as my son died of sepsis there after they failed to spot it (despite me telling them I think its sepsis) so to see its still unresolved is a massive red flag.

However, I've chosen to go to another hospital, also rated "requires improvement" partly because it means I get a DR I really like but also I feel comfortable with what the Commission found during the inspection which is mainly around leadership and paperwork management.

Ttcdcno1 · 16/09/2023 17:12

@Mummyme87 midwife help please! My sister has just found out she has scabies. I was sat next to her at my grandads funeral on Tuesday- what do I need to know/do?
