When are you all planning on buying prams?

The set I was looking at has sold out everywhere says next delivery is in December!! Which is cutting it fine, I have seen a few others I like though.

I was talking about it with my mum and she was saying it's still way too early to be buying pram yet...

But I honestly would rather get it early than leave too late.

Honestly the whole superstitious thing about waiting is really kind of bugging me. I'm already really anxious about things going wrong I don't need others reinforcing that 😖

@EL27 Mamas and Papas are currently in sale and you can just put a deposit on one and pay it 28 days before your due date. I honestly bought pram first time round at 12 weeks. I don't think it's to early. There's lots to get and spreads out. Plus nobody wants to be walking round the shops at 35 plus weeks pregnant.

Hummusanddipdip · 12/09/2023 16:41

Oh, I hadn't even made the connection between smell and pregnancy. My poor dog!!! Dh said he doesn't smell and neither does his bed, but all I can small is wet dog and ammonia, I'm washing his bedding 3 times a week and it still stinks! I'm not washing him that often as he has sensitive skin, but I can't bare to cuddle up with him on the sofa at the moment 😩

I'm refusing superstitions this year, (was my New Years resolution/challenge by dh) I used to salute every single magpie, avoid path cracks and drains etc. It's helped with my anxiety, and also means that the cots already built and pram and car seat have been bought, both in storage, but had them since 16 weeks 😳

Lilothblos · 12/09/2023 17:27

@EL27 I have a John Lewis appointment to look at prams when I’ll be 27 weeks so won’t be buying until after then. I’m not massively fussed about colour etc so I am hoping that will be fine!

MrsJ6921 · 12/09/2023 18:17

@EL27 We’ve already ordered ours from a shop as they said most manufacturers close in December so they can’t guarantee delivery.

Some colours in our chosen brand weren’t available this side of the year. I guess it depends what and who you order from.

FirstT1meMum · 12/09/2023 18:18

So frustrated today!
I thought it was strange I hadn't received my prescription exemption and had been waiting as the midwife said it could take 12 weeks and to keep any receipts. I thought I would email over the weekend as I thought it was strange I still hadn't had anything and they've replied today to say they have never received my application and I need to reapply. Annoyed because the Dr's should have sent it off! Annoyed I've saved receipts that I not probably won't be able to claim as the dates probably won't be right. I've now got to try and get back in touch with my midwife (which is an absolute nightmare) and ask her to do me another application! Argh! Feeling so emotional about it but I'm just so bloody frustrated. I knew something wasn't right 😖😖

Onedayatatime24 · 12/09/2023 20:21

@EL27 we've bought our pram already as there was a really good deal on a bundle! We're not really superstitious but MIL keeps asking to store it in her garage as she believes in all that. I'd actually never even heard it was bad luck until she mentioned it! 🤷‍♀️ personally I don't think it's a difference and I like having it in the house so I can practice putting all the bits together and giving it a wheel around 😂

@FirstT1meMum agh that's so annoying, hope you get sorted soon!! I've had the same with my whooping cough vaccine, not been offered it, midwife never gets back to me, no idea if I need to sort it myself with GP or of I'll get it at my 24 week appointment. So annoying when you already have no idea what you're doing and just want some help getting sorted!! Hope you manage to get some money back!

PartRadish · 12/09/2023 20:28

Glad it's not just me with the possibly phantom smells! Although not glad you're all suffering it too.

Anomaly scan take 3 was a success, baby was in a much better position today and everything looked great. Phew!

I've just done my last post op blood thinning injection. I have absolutely hated every single one, injecting into your pregnant belly feels so so wrong and I was terrified I was going to mess it up somehow. Actually went to triage for last nights one and they did it because I just couldn't 😳 I understand the how important they are so I'm glad I got them but also glad that its over for now! Huge respect to anyone who self injects daily!

HopeAndStrength · 12/09/2023 20:30

@Onedayatatime24 I booked my whooping cough vaccine myself via the GP. Filled in their online form to sat I needed to book it but didn't know how, then I got a call the next day offering an appointment to have the vaccine.

FirstT1meMum · 12/09/2023 20:48

@Onedayatatime24 it's just like, this is already one minefield of a journey to navigate without all the added complications! Work are asking about my matb1 today too and I'm just like I have no idea 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ said I'd try and ask before my next appointment!

I had very very similar with my whooping cough - midwife said I needed to have it but never explained the process of if she did it or the Dr's or who organised. I ended up ringing mu Dr's surgery and they said I organised it with them. It's all so confusing!

@PartRadish glad all went well with your scan x

Sambeaumont · 12/09/2023 20:59

This is going to sound like a crazy question but when is everyone doing to start washing and sorting babies clothes? This is our 2nd baby so have lots and also bought new things which all need washing. X
Oh and also packing hospital bag? Xx

LozzieLoo · 12/09/2023 21:04

We put a deposit down on our pram a couple of weeks ago when M&Ps had their 40% off sale. Glad we did as the one we wanted can only be delivered in December- due 18th Jan so hoping that is ok!

@PartRadish glad all went well with the scan, 3rd time lucky!

Hummusanddipdip · 12/09/2023 21:06

@Sambeaumont I am planning to wash clothes in October half term. Some of it is ds old stuff and hand me down/back bits from family and friends, so although clean, been stored for the past 1 to 4 years 🤣. We've not bought anything new yet (taking ds shopping this weekend so he can choose an outfit gift for his db)

Hospital bag will be mid December? I'm likely to be induced week after Christmas (if growth not tracking as needed) or go into spontaneous labour just after new year (going by experience with ds).

Onedayatatime24 · 12/09/2023 21:06

@HopeAndStrength I rang the midwife yesterday to check but they take 48 hours to get back to you, so I'll ring the GP tomorrow and just get it sorted! Thanks for sharing, I honestly have no idea!

@FirstT1meMum I've literally just been thinking the same about my matb1, hasn't even been mentioned at any appointments and my next midwife appointment will be too late. So will see if I can get it from the GP but they're useless too! 🤦‍♀️

Hummusanddipdip · 12/09/2023 21:11

Works not asked about my matb1 form yet, midwife said she'll give it to me at my next apt (28 weeks) is that going to be too late? She did say if work request I can call my gp surgery and she'll sort it out for me before then.

Also I've suddenly got strong movement feeling and visible kicks when laying down, all brand new today, coupled with I suspect sciatica on my left side 😩 was not a nice walk home from work today took me an hour and a half rather than the usual 40 minutes 😅 got a nice limp with my waddle 🤣

Ttcdcno1 · 12/09/2023 21:29

I got myself into a panic thinking my next midwife appt was 15 weeks before I would be finishing and it would be too late but work were just really chill. Bursar just said as long as I’ve got it before you go off we’re all good 😂

also we’ve had the pram and car seat in the house for ages! No superstitions here-although my mum still keeps asking to look after it for us. We wanted to spread the cost out of all the bigger items so started buying early

FirstT1meMum · 12/09/2023 21:51

@Onedayatatime24 glad it's not just mine that are hard work! Honestly 🙈

We put our pram deposit down roughly a month ago and will be collecting in December!

I was also thinking about washing clothes, thinking I'll possibly start when our furniture arrives next month but that seems far too early!!

buckingmad · 12/09/2023 21:53

Stilll Using my travel system with DD so I’ll just get the bassinet out and give that a a Hoover/sponge down. Although tbh I barely used it last time, I was naughty and just kept DD in her car seat all the time. Absolutely no way was I cutting a nap short by getting her out of the car seat and transferring her.

I need to go through all her old clothes and give them a wash/sort into sizes. DD was also a summer baby and this is obvs winter so I need to check if I’m missing anything, I guess I’ll need some chunkier newborn cardis but I can knit those myself relatively quickly.

And hospital bag I am going to pack before Christmas just in case. DD my waters broke at 39 weeks but looking back I think I was in early stages of labour a few days before that. Which this time round would be around Christmas 🙄

Vikki7 · 12/09/2023 22:32

@buckingmad my daughter is praying for baby to pop at 39 weeks exactly as it's Christmas Day and she wants to call her brother Jesus!

Kalodin · 13/09/2023 05:56

Great news about scan @PartRadish - the blood thinning injections are difficult aren't they, glad they're over for you!

Hope you wake up today feeling more refreshed with movement @Hummusanddipdip

That's hilarious @Vikki7 sweet too though

I've packed my hospital bag - an initial bag that would last me a week if I got admitted early again. I was in hospital from 21 weeks last time and currently 20 weeks.

buckingmad · 13/09/2023 06:43

@Vikki7 😂 that’s so cute. I wonder if any of us will have Christmas babies! I have a feeling this baby is going to be a 2023 baby, I just can’t shift a gut feeling!

I just want to make it to 28th. Any date after that I feel we can separate Christmas and birthday enough.

Luhou · 13/09/2023 06:57

Everyone sounds very organised! I'll probably start washing clothes and packing hospital bag when I finish work at 36 weeks and on the days DD is in nursery.

We have DD's travel system but I need new matress for bassinet and to wash down.

I was definitely more organised first time round but I had no children and was on furlough! Enjoying going into shops and picking stuff this time round, as was all online on supermarkets during covid.

I text my midwife regarding MATB1 and she's put it in the post for me. I had forgotten about whooping cough. You don't get a 24 week mw appt with my trust, unless it's your first baby.

FirstT1meMum · 13/09/2023 07:22

I've got a parents welcome meeting tonight and telling them about my upcoming maternity leave 🫣🫣 Absolutely bricking their reactions, wish it could've just gone in a letter! 🤣

Onedayatatime24 · 13/09/2023 07:46

Our spare room (which will be baby's room) is still an absolute dumping ground of stuff that hasn't found a home elsewhere in the house. So that needs clearing and decorating before I start washing and organising clothes I think. Thought I had ages but definitely feels like time is speeding up since I hit 20 weeks.

I'm really hoping I make it into January, I don't want a Christmas baby at all! 😅

Luhou · 13/09/2023 07:52

@Onedayatatime24 snap. Baby's room currently full of washing and paperwork. It's mostly decorated. Probably benefit from a fresh coat of paint.

HopeAndStrength · 13/09/2023 08:12

Yep baby's room is currently being used as an office so we have some reorganisation to do as well!
