I'm enjoying doing it before bed, so right as I'm ready to go to sleep @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I set up my environment for how I hope it would be for birth, with the smells and my nice pillow and eye mask then play the meditation track.

I have ADHD and so falling asleep and meditation is usually something I find tricky but this routine has massively helped me. I drift off a lot quicker now and just feel my body relax quicker too, I feel so at peace as soon as smell the lavender oils. Definitely recommend.

Thanks everyone for the reassurance on covid. You'd think I'd be more at ease with it given DS3 was a covid baby but I'm really not! DS1 seems to be okay with calpol.

suz2285 · 12/09/2023 10:11

@LittleAlien24 haha that'll be me reading things wrong again, telling you this baby brain is bad! I'm sure we'll both cope! glad your daughter is setting baby on the right track!

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 thanks for the straw tip i'm going to do that! Re hypnobirthing, yes to the practicing, the videos I'm watching all day to practice regularly so you know what to do in the moment and don't have to consciously think about it etc. I've actually been trying to concentrate on my breathing when i'm tired or stressed so hopefully it'll help!

TunnocksTCake · 12/09/2023 10:12

I did the positive birth company hypnobirthing course the first time round and found it was really informative. We both watched it I seem to remember. Also the book 'Practical ways to make your birth better' by Siobhan Miller is a very good read.

I had a birth preferences last time but there wasnt time to get it out, kept getting sent home due to it being Covid times and when I finally went in I was 9cm on arrival and only got to fill the pool half up. Didnt get bags out of the car becasue DH wasnt allowed to leave and come back! I guess this time we will likely have more time - at the moment (to be retested later on) I am Strep B positive so have to get there 4 hours in advance for antibiotics drip.
I do think its a good idea if you have strong preferences on Pain relief/ active labour etc but try to remember its preferences, not a plan.

JaffaCake123 · 12/09/2023 11:22

Ohhh, thanks @TunnocksTCake . I will take a look as that is what I want to get 🙂

Lilothblos · 12/09/2023 12:00

@Kalodin I had covid a couple of weeks ago, I’ve had it once before pre-pregnancy and it was much easier this time. I just had a sore throat and felt a bit more tired than usual for a few days, so even if you do get it I wouldn’t be too worried.

Kalodin · 12/09/2023 12:12

The Postive Birth Book is a great read, picked up a copy second hand for £2 on Vinted. Really informative and discusses a wide range of births. It's really interesting how one person's "ideal birth" would be someone else's horror but it discuses ways to feel in control no matter what happens and how education is key

Ah thank you @Lilothblos It was the fever that shocked me that DS is really struggling with.

MrsJ6921 · 12/09/2023 12:30

I’m off for my monthly pedicure today which after the heatwave and having extremely swollen feet I’m very much looking forward too! I’ve not thought about hypnobirthing, I don’t think it’s my ‘thing’. I have thought of some preferences though 😊

Luhou · 12/09/2023 12:41

Loving this cooler weather. Ready for Autumn!

TunnocksTCake · 12/09/2023 12:58

Ive just submitted my Maternity leave in writing, EEEP!

suz2285 · 12/09/2023 13:44

@TunnocksTCake eee!! i've been looking at mine but need my Mat B1 form still, i'll get it in a few weeks i think and then submit!!

TunnocksTCake · 12/09/2023 13:54

I had to go and collect my Mat B1 - I thought I got it in the post but I had to request they write it then go in and collect. Glad I checked as its qualifying week for me next week & would have run out of time waiting!
I guess last time it was lockdown so everything was posted rather than in person.

suz2285 · 12/09/2023 14:12

yeah @TunnocksTCake i haven't asked about mine yet, work were pretty chill about handing it in on exact dates! I said i'd prob get it at the next appointment and they said cool... so yeah! unless they chase me up before then i'll just hand it in after i get it from the midwife this time.

Mummyme87 · 12/09/2023 14:31

I got my MatB1 today actually, luckily we have some lying around at work 😬 I’ve got consultant appt this afternoon if I can get out of work for a bit, will hopefully get her to agree to induction at 39wks

Luhou · 12/09/2023 14:31

Text my midwife this morning asking for a MATB1 for work. I am sure with my first, I got it at my 20 week scan.

Lightningrain · 12/09/2023 15:00

I got my MAT1B today as well. Had my 24 week midwife appointment and heard baby’s heartbeat again. He or she is still transverse (she thinks head on my right and feet on my left) but apparently that’s not an issue at this stage.

It seems like all the reviews of hypnobirthing are really good so I’m going to give it a go. I’m a bit of a worrier and hate anything medical so any techniques that might help with relaxation and calmness have got to help.

Bims2019 · 12/09/2023 15:10

@TunnocksTCake that's so exciting! I have told work but not submitted in writing yet or finalised my dates. Pretty sure I'll be finishing at the Christmas break on 22nd December though, and need to remember to get my matb1 next week!

Is anyone else ravenous at the moment? I polished off my lunch early then had the urge to buy a sausage roll 😂 have hit 24 weeks today so think it might be a growth spurt

@Bims2019 my appetite has deffinetely increased this week. Can't get enough of wotsits.

Bims2019 · 12/09/2023 15:40

@Luhou LOVE wotsits, a fine choice. I could eat crisps all day!

Same as me! 24 week appointment today and matb1 form. Discussed interventions that consultant wanted to start from 28 weeks. I've refused GTT and blood thinning injections. I'm still to decide on growth scans and will agree to glucose monitoring with urine or blood if required. Listened to baby's heartbeat which is starting to lower. He was always at 148-150, now at 140. Movements are great and he's down as "not engaged" on my notes. All good today :-) Most of us must have had our 20week scans by now? I'm just about to complete my partner's paternity form for his work. He's never taken paternity with our other 2 so it will be a very different experience in the weeks after baby is born this time!

Loving this cooler weather. Ready for Autumn!

It's Heaven after the heatwave isn't it? I'm so thankful it's started to cool down.

PartRadish · 12/09/2023 15:52

Just waiting to go in for the third attempt at finishing my anomaly scan. Really hoping she's in a good position this time 🙈

Weird one but does anyone else suddenly find the smell of normal things revolting? We've bed using Aldi washing liquid tab things for years. The last two weeks they smell like sour milk/vomit to me. DH and the kids all say they smell fine. Washing machine is fairly new but I've done a maintenance cycle and cleaned all filters on the tumble dryer. Still smells of milky puke to me. Washed some stuff in Daz abd it smells fine 😖 So it must be the washing tabs! But wth is that all about?!

EL27 · 12/09/2023 15:58

When are you all planning on buying prams?

The set I was looking at has sold out everywhere says next delivery is in December!! Which is cutting it fine, I have seen a few others I like though.

I was talking about it with my mum and she was saying it's still way too early to be buying pram yet...

But I honestly would rather get it early than leave too late.

Honestly the whole superstitious thing about waiting is really kind of bugging me. I'm already really anxious about things going wrong I don't need others reinforcing that 😖

Vikki7 · 12/09/2023 15:58

@PartRadish I hope little one is in a better position for you this time. 🤞🏻

It's funny you should mention smells, I keep smelling smoke/burning at night time and panicking (other 2 kids in bed) I go round the house and check everything and make sure smoke detectors are working.

It doesn't help that we live in a small village with lots of farmers who are often burning things! But even when my OH tells me he doesn't smell anything, I still do.

suz2285 · 12/09/2023 16:03

@PartRadish funny you say that, this morning I got In the car and it smelled like rotten food/sour milk. Is this a new pregnancy thing?? I was sniffing around for ages and my car is super clean I don't leave food in it!?

Hope baby was in a good position today!

@EL27 the superstition thing bugs me too! We're planning on buying buggy second hand so I'm waiting cos we don't have much storage space I'll get it later on 😂 but yeah I didn't realise there were so many superstitions! We've already got the car seat in the car just cos it's easier to store it there!!
